We found this place by accident but it was a good accident! I was out with some friends after a good bike ride and this was exactly what we needed. It was a Sunday morning just about 11 am and they still had the traditional Dominican breakfast available which was nice and fresh as well. The plate was dressed to perfection with just enough of everything to make sure you were full at the end. The menu was filled with nice dishes all very traditional as well as foods for the kids as well. We had a misunderstanding on alcohol sales... I wanted a beer but they said it was a law which wasn't anymore but they said no alcohol on Sundays. Not sure what happened there. Nevertheless it was a nice find. read more

My hubs and I used to frequent this place on and off about 10 Years ago. It was a decent place to come when I wanted Mofongo. He passed away 6 months ago and I was feeling melancholic and came by on a Sunday afternoon. Ordered the Mofongo with pork chops. Mofongo wasn't terrible but wasn't great. Pork chops were extremely overcooked and super dry and tough, not much taste. It's a quaint place, with good service. I wouldn't recommend ordering what I did. Other items may be better. I always like supporting small businesses and if you like Dominican food maybe worth a try. read more

We were very excited to try a Dominican spot close to our house, but let's say that we won't be back again. The pictures speak for themselves. We ordered a lot - pollo guisado con arroz, habichuelas y tostones, rabo guisado con arroz, habichuelas y maduros, sancocho, and jugo de avena. The first indication that this food was going to be trash was my experience at the pickup counter. The two women who served me didn't speak back to me in Spanish, even though I speak it fluently and greeted them in Spanish; other than that, they were only mildly attitudinal which doesn't bother me. But what does bother me is not telling me you're out of something and simply replacing it with something else. Instead of giving me jugo de avena, they gave me morir soñando and I couldn't tell because they put the drinks in a bag, found out in the car; they tasted good but not what I ordered. The really bad part was the food itself. No maduros, unequal amount of tostones on each plate (and two looked like they had bites taken out of them), the sancocho was under-seasoned and watery and the oxtails, which cost $23.99, were pathetically sized - two decent sized and three literally the size of the end of my thumb. What the hell? And then, I found a long, black hair belonging to a woman in my oxtails. How does y'all's food taste awful AND have a hair in it?? Pick a struggle! Don't waste y'all's time with this place and just ask your mom to cook for you (if you're Dominican). This is just confirmation that South Florida is in desperate need for a good Dominican spot. read more

My intuition said "run" but my optimism said "it may be very authentic and worth checking out". My lesson? Listen to my intuition. SLOW SERVICE: There was 1 server but there was just us and another couple in the restaurant. Still, we waited a while for our food. Someone picked up an order of 4 containers of food to go; I wonder if they have only 1 person cooking. FOOD: The coffee was good because it was not acidic and the milk was heated. I wish I could say the same for my food. After waiting about 15 minutes, the server brought a plate of food to me and asked me if it was mine. It had been so long since she took the order she couldn't remember what I requested! The dish was for the couple who came in after us. Soon after I got my plate of mofongo stuffed with shrimp in garlic sauce. Five minutes later hubby got his Cuban sandwich. The mofongo had not been heated - it was room temp with warm thin yellow sauce on it (no garlic flavor) and five heated shrimp in the center. Room temp mofongo is a thick, unappetizing paste. The shrimp were ok but I only ate one because it was barely hot and sitting on the mound of thick, unheated food. Hubby gave me a piece of his Cuban sandwich. It was pressed so it was hot and crispy. While not stuffed with lots of meat, it had cheese and pickles sticking out of the side. The food tasted ok but not worth raving about; hubby was hungry and eating it so I said nothing. REGRET: On the way home hubby said the pork was dry and that he saw brown grease on the plate. He started to feel 'grossed' and admitted that he thinks he just ate old food. Judging from the lack of customers and the way the food tasted, I think he may be onto something. They say a picture is worth a thousand words - in this case I'd say my pics say the Galaxy Note camera makes anything look good. read more

Tucked in a small random shopping center, Punta Cana offers real deal authentic Dominican food at amazing prices. Everything on the menu is perfectly crafted to transport you to the island within seconds. I visited Punta Cana restaurant with my family for our traditional Sunday dinner. My Uncle, who eats here frequently, suggested we glance at the menu and place the order before arriving, because their service is a tad bit slow. So we did. Not knowing the colossal portions, we ordered 1 Picadera Mixta, 1 Mofongo with Pork Chicharron, 1 Grilled Fish Fillet, 1 Churrasco and 1 Cordon Bleu; each of the dishes came with the standard 3 sides: rice, habichuelas aka beans and tostones. The dining space is small and quaint, about 12-15 tables. Traditional Dominican music played throughout the restaurant which added to the "transporting" effect. It was nicely decorated and clean, however severely understaffed. Although it was a Sunday afternoon, only 1 waitress worked the front of the restaurant while 1 man cooked the meals, which explains the slow service issue. Even after placing our pre-ordered over the phone, we still waited about 30 minutes before our food was brought to our table. So makes sure you're having dinner with people you like, because if not, it'll make for one LONG boring dinner! Lol That's my only complaint though. Every dish we ordered was insanely delicious. Just one knockout punch of flavor after another. The Churrasco & Fish were both perfectly succulent and well-seasoned. Portions for both were more than expected. So you could easily feed 2 people with 1 dish. The Cordon Bleu was the size of a child's football and the sauce was heavenly. I could literally bathe in it. Don't get me started on the Picadera aka The Sampler. My family was a pack of vultures. The little crispy bites of Fried Cheese, Salami, Chicken Chunks, and Steak were no match for us. We devoured them so quickly, we almost forgot to breathe. Even with the extended wait, I really enjoyed my dinner at Punta Cana restaurant. Croquetas - Dominican style, with a little bit of a mayo/ketchup dipping sauce, the croquettes had little chunks of protein in between all those bread crumbs. Good flavor and didn't lack taste whatsoever. Chicharron de Pollo - fried chicken chunks, nice and crisp - the skin just like a cracklin' as the name implies in Spanish, with a squeeze of lime juice over it, they seem to brighten up the taste much more. Comes with your choice of side dishes. Pollo a la plancha - chicken breast on a flattop grill, nice succulent juicy chicken breast, grilled and topped with onions. This one we had to order it with Mofongo (smashed green plantains) - garlicky, well balanced/seasoned, and with a side of dipping broth - YUM-O! Mofongo relleno com pollo - stuffed with chicken. Excellent!!! It is covered with a tomato sauce, really tasty and mouth watering. It is not overly drenched, just enough to have for every bite of your meal. Chicken breast chunks and sauce was seasoned to perfection, resembles like a fricase sauce but maybe even better... Hmmm. Longaniza - sausage, this item was just ok. It was tasty but more on the dry side than anything else. This is probably why it really didn't stand out to us so much.
