So, rather than shacking up with the next available dude who might make a decent dad to my 65 pound pit bull, I opted to explore the dog walker option. So much cheaper. And the interview process is not nearly as tedious. I was referred to Mindy by my neighbors who have two very dog-aggressive pups. And while Gus is not dog aggressive, per se, he doesn't like every dog he meets, so it takes a diligent and knowledgeable walker to ensure his and everyone else's safety. Mindy seemed to be right up our alley. Mindy stopped by the house and met Gus. He loved her. Immediately. Kisses and jumping and that lean in dogs do when they are feeling particularly affectionate. She asked all the right questions and, when I had questions, she had all the right answers. She leaves little notes telling me about their walk and whether his business was appropriately done. Unfortunately Gus can be a total pain in the ass and his report card will sometimes read "Gus was a little stubborn today." Which means he probably refused to walk and threw a temper tantrum with his leash. Mindy puts up with a lot of bullshit. But she never complains and I love knowing he's in such good hands. And I feel a lot less guilty when I have to stay at work late knowing that Gus has had an awesome walk that afternoon. My beloved neighbor Jaime, a retired Puerto Rican Vietnam vet who spends most of his summer afternoons sitting on his porch, keeping an eye on the neighborhood, told me this: "That dog walker lady you got is a good one. Make sure you keep her around." And I always listen to Jaime's advice.

I like that they focus on JP so that their clients are closer together. My pup can always use more time socializing, so I appreciate that a walk with a friend or two happens when possible. Or if not, she goes by herself, and that's fine too (at no additional charge). The price for a 30-min. walk has only gone up one dollar in three years; it's currently $16, which is cheaper than anywhere else for that amount of time. They accept PayPal for payment, which is super convenient since who has checks anymore? Finances aside, what I really appreciate about them is their flexibility. Sometimes, our walking days would change each week, and all they asked is that we email on Sunday night to say which days we needed walks. Or we'd go several months without needing walks at all. All of that was fine with them, and they couldn't have been more accommodating. Oh, and my dog completely adores Mindy! I just moved out of the neighborhood and am on the hunt for a new dog walker... it is not easy to find a good one that's reasonably priced. I really miss Mailman's Pet Service!

Sandra, the owner, is the best - She takes my big dog for a 2 hr adventure with other dogs that she matches accordingly. He always returns happy and healthy. When he sees her car pull up, he runs to the door wagging his tail and very excited. Sandra is very professionally and extremely caring for the dogs. I have left him with her for a short vacation and have come back to a perfect dog and home. She also posts great pics of the dogs on their walks so you can see the fun they are having with the group. I had a very bad experience here. I was told one thing and a very different day happened for my…read morepuppy. He was left alone in a crate in a "cabin" with no toys to chew. I was told he would have a playmate, that didn't happen. That cabin is a room with nothing in it. I was told later there was miscommunication about his day. He was traumatized for being left alone and I was charged $80. I got an email that my puppy was spilling his water in his bowl and panting after they told me he swallowed a metal hook that was on the crate they put him in. I am pretty sure all puppies spill their water also why was a metal hook put anywhere near his crate in a room unattended. They double lock the crates so the dogs wont get out for "safety" yet they leave them alone to chew the lock and swallow part of it. They all seem fearful of everything and not experienced with puppies or how to do business. We went over everything the day before what his day would look like. His day was nothing near the plan we went over. They still had the audacity to charge me after all of that. This place is not worth the money they charge not even close. In response to this email screenshot I posted, of course he is stressed he was kept in a crate all day and he just swallowed a metal clip. I told the owner and the shift lead the day before, I don't crate my puppy, they reassured me he would not be in a crate at all. That wasn't true. They could have called me or text to tell me this. Because it was an email, I received it later. They told me because he is not fixed he was kept alone. They shamed me for not having him fixed yet, he is a young puppy! Over all terrible experience. These people are mean!

She hung out in a corner by herself and clearly did not want to go back. We did not think we would ever put Evelyn in doggie daycare thinking she would never like one either. Then I heard about The Bark Yard from a friend who loved this place-as did her dog. We decided to try it with Evelyn. She absolutely loves going to this fabulous facility. I say facility but really its like a big comfy place for Evie to play with other dogs. The groups are small and dogs are placed together based on personalities, etc Its kind of like driving your young child to school and have them run off with their friends forgetting to turn around and wave at the you, the parent. Evie never looks back. I'd say this is a true sign that she loves this doggie day care for its staff, the other dogs as well as the nurturing environmentshe is surrounded by. Great for blocking sun, rain, and wind. 6 months a year there is running water. And even a tub for the dogs to climb in and cool down Another great thing about Valley St is it is awesome for elderly and disabled pet owners in that the park is flat and enclosed and full of friendly awesome dog owners. Mary is wonderful, always accommodates requests (I picked my 2 pups up on her day off), her kennel is professionally built and has beds and blankets for the pups. Rather than small kennels there are the full size kennels where one or two pups can be housed with plenty of room for the kennel staff to move around and plenty of room for the pups to move around, while still being very safe. So glad I found this location. Fully trust Mary to take care of my pups when I need to be away.
