I loved the papusa we got all the kinds for folks that had never had them. I thought they were darn good, and the cabbage salad/slaw was the best I'd ever had for flavor and freshness. We questioned whether we communicated right, it seems to be staffed and frequented by folks from El Salvador. They were friendly and we both tried our best. The menu is small and they are cash only but if you know you want what they have go for it, the prices were fair too. It was clean n they were mopping/cleaning while we were there.

You can find Pupuseria Mi Tierra at 5090 Buford Hwy NE, Ste 102 Doraville, GA 30340 in the Intown Plaza shopping center - this is the same plaza that has Temp Doeloe (check that review), China Hot Pot and Beijing Kabobs. The parking for this plaza is pretty tight but depending on your arrival time you should be able to find a space - might be a good idea to carpool just in case. It's my understanding that a pupuseria is a place that provides snacky-type food and in particular the pupusa - a corn-and-flour think tortilla that's stuffed by various savory and/or cheesy options. This is a particular treat of El Salvadore and is typically accompanied by curtido, and tomato salsa. The pupusas here are particularly good and inexpensive. On this night we visited as part of my Buford Highway Clawr group - we each ordered some pupusas and kept things simple since we weren't familiar with the food. The lady behind the counter was quite accommodating and good about answering our questions and taking recommendations. I like this quite a bit.

Three pupusas for $6. This one is dressed with "slaw" and hot sauce.

Pupuseria Mi Tierra is a small, authentic Salvadoran restaurant located in Intown Plaza, a two-story shopping strip on Buford Highway. The restaurant is sandwiched between popular 8° Fahrenheit Ice Cream and Beijing Kabobs. In Spanish, "mi tierra" means "my land." A pupuseria sells pupusas which are thick corn tortillas filled with various ingredients like beans, cheese, and pork. Pupusas are considered to be the national dish of El Salvador. You can find pupusas up and down Buford Highway at businesses like 5 de Mayo Mexican Restaurant and Pupuseria, La Salvadorenita Pupuseria y Taqueria, and Rincon Latino. Pupuseria Mi Tierra is one of the newer pupuserias to open on Buford Highway (I believe it opened in 2015). Generally, all of the pupusas I've had in Atlanta have been good including at this shop. The interior is small. The dining room has small tables that can seat, in total, about 20 customers comfortably. There's no outdoor seating. You order and pay upfront at the counter. The business doesn't have much decor save for some colored Christmas lights and Christian (Catholic?) paintings of Jesus, Mary, and others. There are a couple agua frescas ("cool waters") churning at the counter. During our visit, they contained horchata (cinnamon rice drink) and what looked like tamarindo (tamarind drink). There was also a small baked goods display case on the counter, but it was empty. Behind the counter are a fridge with bottled soda and water and a coffee maker. There's a menu above the counter. When we visited, the menu had no pricing. I had to ask the lady at the register what the prices were for individual items. The menu does have helpful pictures. The menu had 12 items listed in Spanish with no English translations. Below are the 12 items with their spellings and my translations: * Bisteck de Res - beef steak * Caldo de Pata - Salvadoran cow feet soup * Carne Gisada - beef stew * Mojarra Frita - fried whole tilapia * Pakaya Forrada - date palms * Pupusas (queso, chicharon, revuelta) - cheese, fried pork rinds, combo/mix * Tacos * Platanos con Crema - plantains with cream sauce * Desayunos - breakfast * Caldo de Res - beef soup * Tamales - masa steamed in a banana leaves * Tamalito de Elote - Central American corn cake I asked how much the pupusas were and was told they were $6 for 3 pupusas. I ordered a plate of pupusas revueltas (pupusas filled with beans, cheese, and pork), platanos con crema, and tamales for $10. I asked for two tap waters (not the bottled Dasani water in the fridge) and was charged $2 for two foam cups with water. After we were seated, some of my friends asked for water served the same way and they weren't charged. One of my friends ordered desayunos and a water and was charged $7. We're assuming the breakfast plate was $6 and the water was $1. Note: This is a cash only business. If dining in, all food is served on/in disposable foam plates and cups. Takeout appears to be a popular option. During our lunch visit, I noticed several folks coming in and ordering takeout. The desayunos plate was simple and basic, consisting of scrambled eggs, fried plantains (3 pieces), beans with a bit of cream sauce, and steaming hot, fresh corn tortillas wrapped in foil. The pupusas took the longest to make, I assume because they were made fresh. On my way out of the restroom, I glanced inside the kitchen and saw three ladies preparing what I think were pupusas by hand. The pupusas were served in a foil-lined basket. They were warm and had a nice, appetizing, doughy consistency. The Salvadoran chicharron that is used for pupusas is different from the fried pork belly or fried pork rinds you typically find when ordering chicharron elsewhere. It's finer, thinner, and cooked into the melted cheese and refried beans of the pupusas revueltas. The pupusas were served with the traditional side of curtido which is a spicy coleslaw made with cabbage, carrots, pepper, and other ingredients. Adding curtido and a sauce/salsa to your pupusas is a must. At our table, we had a few house salsas (two reds and a green) plus Picamas Salsa Brava (green) and Valentina Salsa Picante (red). I recommend the house sauces, but try them all. I liked the plantanos con crema though they were far from the tastiest fried plantains (maduros) I've had. Our order came with 6 pieces which were equivalent to maybe about 1 or 2 whole plantains. They were ripe and mildly sweet. The cream sauce was tasty. It looked like it was squeezed out of a bottle. I'm not exactly sure what kind of cream it was, but it tasted like sour cream. I've heard/read this combo is eaten with sugar or cinnamon, but there was none here. The tamale was OK. Again, not the best I've had, but not bad either. Mi Tierra's version is more of a short, compact tamale as opposed to the longer, more rectangular version that is more commonly seen. Our tamale was served unwrapped and contained chicken. I felt that the corn and chicken could have had more flavor.

From the instant you step in here it's like being in Central America !!! the pupusas are fantastic!!! Everything is home made on the spot. So be ready to wait a little. The wait is totally worth it. Try the hot sauces too. Very flavorful and not too spicy. I would definitively come back and try more menu items. Service was very pleasant and friendly.

Was on Buford Highway and thought why not get some pupusas. Googled pupuserias nearby and found this place. They have a very limited menu and you will have to wait at least 20min for your food but the staff is super friendly. Honestly, they did not follow any Covid-19 safety protocols but the staff was absolutely just friendly so they got 3 stars. We ordered the tamale and although it was mushy and didn't have many veggies like it's supposed to, it was tasty. The tacos were ok but had a lot of fat. The pupusas are 3 out of 5 stars. Small, warm and ok tasting but not great. I haven't found a great pupuseria in Atlanta so my search is still on! Not sure if I would return but if I do, again the women that worked there were lovely and kind so that would be the incentive. Also, although the menu only shows they have pupusas with cheese or chicharrón or mixed, they also serve pupusas with loroco, which is not on the menu.

The strong smell of mold throughout the building was alarming and made us question the overall condition of the property. Whoops! This is an overdue review from December…read more Xela Pan Cafe is a Guatemalan restaurant/bakery/convenience store on Buford Hwy in Doraville. Just a quick warning that, depending on which employee helps customers, there may be a slight issue with their understanding of English. They absolutely speak and understand Spanish. Xela Pan Cafe is in a small strip mall that is next to the strip mall where Kung Fu Tea is located. There is limited parking in front of the storefronts. This small business is made up of a restaurant, a bakery and a convenience store all run by the same employees. The convenience store sells a lot of seemingly random items, just about all in glass display cases. I noticed a lot of things to help with digestion and upset stomach, and hoped that this wasn't an indication of their food (Thankfully, it turned out that it wasn't!). The bakery items were in a separate area of display cases, but customers are free to self-serve themselves by using a tray to place whatever they choose, using either tongs or disposable gloves (I can't remember which they use) to take the items out of the cases. R and I came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning just before 9 am. There is an order counter, but that's for customers who are ordering items to go. Once the employees found out that we were going to eat breakfast inside the restaurant, we were told to seat ourselves and an employee would be by soon with menus. The restaurant area contains mostly booths, with some tables and chairs in an area between the order counter, convenience store and bakery areas. A very helpful and knowledgeable server came by our table, bringing a couple of glasses of water and menus. For a small restaurant, there were many items on the menu. We both ordered the scrambled eggs, rice, black beans, plantains and cheese. We didn't wait very long, in spite of other customers lined up at the counter to order takeout meals. The scrambled eggs with tomato and onion in them tasted a little bland, but I dressed it up with some bottled red hot sauce that was on the table. The plain tasting white rice, which had peas, carrots and corn in it, was pressed into a heart shape. The black beans in its watery sauce were very good. The plantains were cooked to a perfect firmness, and had a perfectly matching natural sweetness to them. The small block of slightly salty cheese also had a nice firmness to it. The price for each meal was very reasonable. Overall, this was a good dining experience.

Tender, juicy, melted in my mouth. I had grilled vegetables and baked potato for sides. The vegetables were a mixture of broccoli, cauliflower, pea pods, carrots, and zucchini. They were cooked well and flavored with garlic. The foil packet of potatoes contained three small round potatoes also perfectly cooked through not seasoned at all. The meal came with three small dinner rolls and a few packets of butter. Everything was flavorful and delicious; garlic was quite strong though which I loved but might not be everyone's liking. This Caribbean restaurant and lounge - Dominican food to be specific - opened in 2018. The food we had hit the spot. It was fresh and tasty, cooked and packed to order. For a place that's primarily a Latin nightclub, our Sunday lunch on the patio here was surprisingly delicious. N3dos is located on Buford Highway OTP (outside the perimeter) in the former Shooter Alley building: https://bit.ly/382CSeQ. The shopping center it's located in, Treasure Village, has cleaned up in recent years. Gone is Shooter Alley, the sketchy spa, and Buford Hwy Twin Cinema: https://bit.ly/382LKRC. N3dos renovated and opened up the old Shooter Alley space. It now features a long bar with TVs, elevated booths, tall tables, lounge seating, a DJ stage, and a game nook with gambling machines. They also added lots of windows to let some natural light in. Due to the currently raging COVID-19 pandemic, we dined outside on the makeshift parking lot patio. It's amazing how many tables you can fit onto three parking spots. The outdoor patio was enclosed with cinder blocks and wooden beams. The tables weren't exactly level, but that was OK. At least the furniture was in good condition and looked clean. When I called N3dos before our visit to confirm outside seating, the lady who answered told me that outside seating availability is subject to the staff and volume during each particular shift. Weekends are busier than weekdays and outside seating is more likely during weekends. Also, I was told only two servers work per shift. The patio is completely uncovered so it's also available weather-permitting. During our extended lunch stay from about 12:00-2:30pm on a Sunday, we were the only walk-up "dine-in" customers. I noticed one pick-up takeout customer and another solo customer enter the building. When we visited, there were no other customers and we saw only three workers inside: a man and woman up front (the latter took our order) and an older lady in the kitchen. There was a language barrier, but we were able to order successfully. I discerned that the entire menu wasn't available during the daytime, but instead at night, which was understandable given the bulk of their business is in the evenings. Our server, Katherine, immediately directed us to several specific items on the menu. The menu was spiral-bound, laminated, sturdy, and colorful, filled with helpful pictures and descriptions in both English and Spanish. She pointed out a few chicken dishes, but when I asked her about other dishes, she also suggested beef. Note: Katherine said if we wanted true dine-in service, we had to eat inside. If we wanted to eat outside, we had to order to-go. Our food was served in disposable containers -- aluminum foil plates with paper tops, plastic bowls with snap-shut lids, and flimsy foam boxes. Menu items were affordably-priced with most entrees, except for the seafood entrees, under $15 each. Entree categories included salad, soup, sandwiches, Mexican, Dominican, chicken, steak & pork, stew, pasta, and seafood. Examples included menudo (tripe soup, small $6.95, large $10.95), a Cuban sandwich ($8.95), churrasco (grilled beef with chimichurri, $18.95), and a two-person paella (Spanish rice with mixed seafood, $40.95). They had a variety of apps and sides too. Examples included picadera (small $12.95, large $21.95) which is an assortment platter of party/finger foods, ideal for the club environment, and pastelitos rellenos (savory chicken and beef pastries, $4.95 per order). I didn't ask for or see a drink menu, but it's safe to say they have a full bar. After a little back and forth with the server, we settled on a few dishes: * Rabo Guisado ($13.50) - stewed oxtail * Bistec al Caballo ($14.00) - steak and eggs * Tostones ($3.50) - fried green plantains * Nestle Pure Life bottled water ($2.00 each) We received more food than we were expecting because each entree came with a *generous* portion of white rice and red beans and a salad consisting of lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and a delectable salsa made of chopped red onion, cilantro, and tomato. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The rice was nice and moist, the beans were hearty and satisfying. The oxtail was served in a rich, oily stew that was absolutely packed with mouthwatering flavor. The oxtail meat itself was wonderful; excellent consistency. The steak was a cheap cut that had been cooked well-done, but what can you expect for $14 steak and eggs? It was fine and served its purpose. The steak was topped with two eggs, sunny side up. The tostones were good quality; thick and appetizing, but they lacked flavor. They should've had some seasoning and/or come with a sauce or something. Still, not bad though. Payment was handled via the Clover POS system. Check out N3dos on social media at the links below. Facebook: https://bit.ly/3elm7N5 Instagram: https://bit.ly/2HOaW3U
