Service was quick and friendly. We tried to unlock the Yelp 15% offer and the waiters told us it was for another location: we asked them to double check and they told us there was another one in the mall. It sounded odd there would be another location so close -bc there wasn't. I'm pretty sure they just didn't know how to use the coupon and didn't want to look into it? If you look at the location on this Yelp page, it is 0 steps, the offer was for this location. Anyway, the food wasn't horribly pricey, but definitely not cheap for what you get. We ordered the Parmesan pasta and the bolognese. The presentation is beautiful -but myself and another person in our party had to ask for Parmesan -it just didn't have much flavor. The sangria is a little pricey for the serving and wasn't that good -the beer was good, nice and cold. It wasn't an awful experience, but I wouldn't return when there are more flavorful and cheaper pasta options.

Nice place and very good food. BEWARE YELPERS!! 15% discount for a check-in is not honored at Via Cortalanes location but not disclosed on coupon. They said here it's only good at Plaza Catalunya location. Wanna bet at that location they say it's only good at this one?

Chicken Hanging Skewer, Grilled Veggies, and Croquettes.
    Denise L.

The two important things you need to know about this place: 1) Open late. 2) Delicious meat. Aaaaand we're good to go! Most of started with sangria or cerveza and of course we ordered a few carafes of water. The sangria was perfect after a long first day in Barcelona following an enthralling 6-0 FC Barcelona game! FOOD (4 stars): Soooo, did someone say MEAT? ---------------------------------------------------- We began with the **Deli Meats Platter** which included thin cuts of salami and jamon. Unfortunately there were not enough of each variety of meat to sample each type, but I did like what I tried. The presentation of the **Chicken Hanging Ribs** was impressive -- it arrived as a really tall hanging skewer of delicious meatiness. The chicken was one of the most juicy and tender I have ever had. Definitely recommended! The headliner of the show was supposed to be the **Super Pork Ribs** so our group ordered 3 racks to share. Very well cooked and the menu description ("spectacular!") was accurate. Boy, did we chow down. Of course we had a few non-meat items. "Why??!" you may ask. "Meat is all you need!" We wanted a little balance since we knew we'd be eating a ton of meat during this trip. So we threw in the **Grilled Veggies** dish just for the heck of it, but I was one of the only ones eating it. Everyone else was distracted by the meat. The **Croquettes** were excellent -- perfectly crispy. You may notice that in Spain they have their croquettes down to a T. Never too oily and always just the right amount of crispy. How do they do it? Note that the food above was enough to serve about 8 people and cost us about 25 euro including tip. Decent price for all that meat, but we weren't super full either. Remember that these are European-sized portions, not American portions... so don't be expecting a Sizzler buffet! SERVICE (2 stars): --------------------- Our server did speak decent English but was pretty abrasive until some of us started bustin' out our Spanish. Then they were a tiny bit friendlier. They clearly do favor locals here, which isn't cool. Everyone's a customer, right? Oh, and there's free Wi-Fi, so another point in their favor. You often need to refer to this as as "Wee-Fee" or you may get some blank stares. TIP: People will tell you that everyone in Spain speaks English, but this simply isn't true. They also don't mention that locals seem to absolutely hate speaking it and will only do so because they must somehow serve their customers. So learn some key phrases or brush up on your Spanish before your trip. DATE TIP: This be the place to bring on the meatiness! Show 'em how you throw it down, being from 'Murica and all.

I just left this restaurant and I am an African American woman and my girlfriends who are also African American planned to have dinner here and we had the worst experience in our lives. We flew all the way from USA to enjoy what Spain has to offer and we were met with pure rudeness and disrespect. The look of disgust on their employees face when I Asked for a bar menu. He yelled at me and said he doesn't know what I am asking for and that they don't have that there. I was taken back by his actions told him I was a paying customer and wouldn't be disrespected. He continued to yell at me and lWhen I made a big scene the manager came to apologize but at this point I wasn't about to eat there anymore. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who Are just looking for good food and Drinks unless you are looking to be disrespected.

Pesto pasta and a ceaser salad, so yummy!
    Dani H.

I'm not sure whether I was just starving from traveling for 18 hours without food, or if the food here was honestly amazing because we loved it! I had the pesto pasta, my boyfriend had chicken and rice that had pineapples in it. We also split a ceaser salad and I was glad we did because it was delicious! Definitely would recommend and it's really close to the magic fountain show so you can hit dinner after the fountains!

Great food and good service! Good price very nice atmosfeer and the food was delicious! During my holiday I will visit again! Thank you @Pura Brasa

Greasy salmon swimming in oil & my pork was all fat!! Sent it back, paid for beers & left! It's a shame really because it's a great looking restaurant with a small menu you think they would do well! Our server was very understanding and brought us our bill sharpish!

Super pork ribs(on top), grilled pig's feet(left), grilled mahi mahi deboned(right). They are all delicious!

This is our first meal in Barcelona. The place is clean, hip and trendy. It is located outside the arenas, nearby the museum and the metro station. We ordered super pork ribs, grilled pig's feet and grilled mahi mahi deboned paired with summed sangria and fanta limon for our daughter. The food were presented well and a good portion. They are all delicious. The service is okay. We did enjoy our dining experience here

An English restaurant right in the middle of Barcelona…read more No - the food is not English. It's as Spanish as Spanish can be. But the concept here is the core concept associated with good British cooking. Good ingredients. Simply prepared. The cook should bring out the flavor of the original materials. The ingredients here are excellent, The cook's interventions are subtle. The flavor of the very good ingredients shine through. This does not mean there is no spice involved. My wild bison meatballs had a tomato sauce and definite elements of fire. The mussels had a soupcon of garlic. But what was served was high quality British cuisine. * * * Two exceptions to the above rule - and one caution. There is one good exception and one bad exception 1) The good exception. The British always make exceptions for desserts. Desserts are sweet, yummy and show off the skill of the baker or the skill of the pudding maker. The same applies here. We had a carrot cake and a red velvet cake. None of them tasted like the carrot cakes or red velvet cakes we get at home. Both of them were just lovely. We would order them again ... and again ... and again ... and again. 2) The vegan casserole my wife got did not impress. Everything tasted like mushroom even though there were other things besides mushrooms in the pan. Some of the vegetables notably the artichoke hearts were so tough as to be nearly inedible. She was not provided with a knife .... Which gets us to the third point ... 3) Service is terrible. The people are nice, friendly and willing to please. But don't expect to see them very often. And they sold you the food on the menu. They did not sell you silverware to eat it with. They will bring you a fork. Then they are done. Not only our table but other tables around us had to deal with the "how the heck do I eat this problem"? We just went ascetic and went without. People at other tables went up to the service rack to get the hardware they were lacking. The same benign neglect went to providing beverages. I would have been happy to build my tab for the night by ordering seconds or thirds on my drink. I never got my chance - and left the restaurant thirsty. (I have a nice bottle of mineral water I bought from a bodega to make up for the lack.) * * * These quirks aside, the food when it hits is really really fine. I ate very well, with wild boar meatballs that could be considered memorable. Fortunately, you need neither a knife nor a spoon to eat meatballs.

I went on a month long trip in Europe - Italy, Spain, and France - and Leku was one of, if not the…read morebest, dining experiences that I had. And I ate out every night. What I wanted was a chance to sample some traditional Catalan food, and luckily a friend of a friend was native to the area and took me to Leku. It certainly had that, and more. First, you may notice that it is a completely family run business. It feels that way. One waiter had a lengthy conversation with my friend about who knows what in Catalan. There were no bright line distinctions between who did what. The chef who also runs the place is part owner with I believe his mother. He was at times our waiter, our bus boy, and also of course the concerned chef who asked how each course went. And the food sure was fantastic and new. The ingredients were fresh, and almost entirely made in house. Some dishes were more traditional, while others were inventive but still inspired by the Catalan palette. For example, I had a fish dish that was paired with a mayonnaise dressing mixed with bacon! Apparently the people of Catalan mix meat and fish all the time, but it was a completely new flavor for me. A more traditional dish I had were these fried shellfish, something between a shrimp and a lobster, purchased fresh from the fish market that day. Ox tail wasnt weird at all, and it was very juicy and full flavored. The squid-ink croquets were probably my favorite, could have eaten ten of those. For dessert, I had a mojito flavored whipped cream and a cheesecake flavored yogurt. Maybe the greatest part of this restaurant was the quality combined with the authenticity of the Catalan culture. I know some spanish, but Im not sure I heard a lick of Spanish in that place. There was a large group celebrating what seemed like an anniversary. There was another older couple having dinner, and young couples perhaps on their first date. This place was not a place that tourists swarmed, which is something that by that time I had enough of. This was a place that a person native to the area would suggest, and it was a wonderful serendipity that I was introduced to it. They say you may not know how people treat you, but youll always remember how they make you feel. Well, not only did Leku treat me like an upper-class man, but as an outsider they made me feel welcome. I'll remember that most of all. Thanks guys

While the restaurant does not look super fancy, it's got a pleasant atmosphere and a nice decor. We walked over around 6:15, which is early for dinner, even for us. The server explained that they had some tapas available, but the kitchen didn't open until 7. We said we'd be back and he booked us a table on the spot. (lucky us as they had a party of 16 locals and the remaining tables were booked except ours!) We wandered to another place for an outside glass of wine while we waited. At 7, we went back and explained Uncle D's shellfish allergy to Mark, our server and asked about recommendations for things we might try that would work for the allergy. He was so kind and advised against certain items that had shellfish or were cooked in the same oil as shellfish. Bless him! We shared the tapas of a pulled pork sandwich, (in a small bun), and a cheese plate with cubes of cheese in olive oil with black salt flakes, and finished with sharing a main course of oxtail, which we were told takes 32 hours to make! All were delicious and we were thrilled we had gone there. The second and final night in Barcelona we were tired, didn't want to have to figure out where to go that might not be too close and decided to go back. This time we booked a table about 45 minutes before we wanted to be there. Lucky there was a table for 2! When we walked in, we were recognized and greeted like family! Mark even remembered our names, shellfish allergy and the wine we had enjoyed the night before which we wanted again. We ordered the same cheese tapas as it was so delicious, along with the chorizo casserole in apple cider, with a main course of the sirloin steak with potatoes and padron peppers. The steak dish was brought out before the chorizo dish accidentally. We opted at that point to have the chorizo dish after. Steak was cooked a perfect medium rare, potatoes crispy outside and soft inside and the padron peppers tasty but mild. Again, absolutely delicious! By the time we were halfway through the steak dish, we knew we had no room in our tummies for the chorizo dish. We asked if it was possible to cancel the chorizo dish, but if they had already started cooking it then it would be ok. Mark was gracious and canceled it for us. At the end of the meal, Mark brought us a glass of a local liqueur that was wonderful. The food, the service, the atmosphere... and both nights local folks enjoying along with tourists, all fabulous. All that to say... if you have the chance to go to this wonderful restaurant, do it!

The neighborhood - I stayed at the AC Hotel Sants while visiting Barcelona. The Barcelona Sants train station was adjacent to the hotel, and the property was in a walkable neighborhood surrounded by restaurants, convenience stores, and other businesses. There was also a deceptively nondescript alley right next to the hotel that I didn't explore right away. Turns out, that alley leads to a vibrant, hidden plaza (Plaça d'Osca) with restaurants and shops, where locals in the Sants neighborhood hang out. This is also where La Mestressa is located. 2. The food and drinks - I got dinner with two friends at La Mestressa one evening. We ordered a pitcher of sangria, a bottle of wine, and a wide selection of tapas, croquettes, and a couple main dishes. My personal favorites from the meal were the sangria, patatas bravas (crispy potatoes with sauce), octopus, and the salmon salad (not pictured). Each of those dishes were well-seasoned, had great textural contrast, and provided either familiar comfort (patatas bravas and octopus) or a completely new flavor experience (salmon salad). The sangria was light and refreshing. 3. The service - Our server was bilingual and provided satisfactory service. She was warm. The service was well-paced, and she attended to all of our needs as a group. 4. The ambience - As I previously mentioned, both Plaça d'Osca and La Mestressa were a whole vibe. If the terms "off the beaten path," "honeycomb hideout," "in the cut," or "rural retreat" mean anything to you, this area similarly provides a nice place to "retreat" and immerse yourself in a local neighborhood right in the heart of Spain's second largest city. It's the perfect place to drink wine and sangria and while away your evening. :)

We ended up just have a quick beer and off we go to somewhere else for real food... PS they do have an English Menu

We'd thus far seen a lot of touristy areas of Barcelona, so getting to feel a bit like an insider was such a treat here! My Spanish is conversational, so I could mostly get through the menu (after asking for the Spanish one, rather than Catalan where I definitely struggle), but I would recommend coming here with a dictionary or translation app if you're English-only. I thought the service was excellent, our waitress was very understanding and patient with my language mistakes and chatted easily with us about different menu options. We ended up getting a sandwich, the meatballs, and a couple of other things to share, as well as a bottle of wine. We spent the better part of an evening snacking and chatting away, surrounded by boisterous laughter and conversation of locals who clearly adore this spot.
