I'm a huge fan of their Miami locations, so it was only a matter of time before I tried one of Pura Vida's LA options. Today, it was Pura Vida in Malibu, located in the same commercial plaza as Madhappy / Pantry, Frankies Bikinis, Be Kind Studios (pilates), and a soon-to-be Wally's. I really liked Pura Vida because of it's "health and wellness" angle. In re-reviewing the menus here, I noticed several items that were over 1,000 calories - not quite as health-conscious as I remember, but I knew it had to be just as delicious. Thankfully, I was right. I had the Spicy Tuna Poke Bowl which comes with a generous helping of avocado, cucumber, arugula, green onions / scallions, radish, spicy mayo, cilantro rice, and raw tuna. For about $35 with tax and tip, this was a rather hearty lunch that two people could easily share. I didn't mix it, as I prefer to eat ingredients separately, and received a soy ginger sauce on the side to complement the flavors. My friend opted for the Spicy Salmon Wrap, made with a specifically gluten-free wrap. That option comes with cooked salmon (which she found to be dry), edamame, carrots, avocado, and cilantro rice - as well as a side of fruit and the same soy ginger dressing/sauce I had. She wasn't wow'ed by the flavor, which may be because of the wrap, or the gluten-free nature of the preparation, or the salmon itself. The exterior patio seating is new, fun, and reminds me a bit of the La La Land coffee shop in Calabasas. Gorgeous place to have brunch or lunch outdoors and soak in some Malibu overcast. Service was efficient, personable, and polite. Plenty of staff to handle the crowd on a Saturday afternoon. Food came out quickly and tables were bussed in a timely manner. Free parking is available in the back lot, or else in the underground garage. There's also valet parking for $8 (all-day) toward the front. read more

Seed oil-free meals that taste clean and keep that feel-good feeling going if you've been trying your best to eat real food. I've had them on a few occasions, and they never disappoint. On my last visit there, I had their New Yorker, to nitpick, true lox is salt-cured, not smoked, but hey, I'll let that slip. Still a good bagel with quality ingredients. Other must-haves are the perfect egg sandwich and croissant sandwich. Drinks are a plus, clean without the jitters, and service is eh, but they're always busy, so it is what it is. read more

My family and I were visiting the country mart and decided to come here for lunch. It has a nice outdoor ambiance, it feels a bit like you're in Greece with the white and neutral color palette and olive trees. Really nice casual yet also comfortable ambiance. They have lots of tables in their outdoor patio. You place your order inside, pay, and they bring your food out to you when ready. My bf and I split the avocado salmon bowl and the spicy tuna bowl. The wraps looked good but I was pretty hungry and they said the bowls have more food. The presentation of the bowls was beautiful - really colorful! Both were absolutely delicious and tasted so fresh. I liked the spicy tuna bowl slightly more, it was more citrusy, but my bf liked the salmon bowl more which was creamier with a green tahini sauce on the side. I loved both though! Someone in our party got the falafel bowl and enjoyed that. We also got to try a couple cookies - the pistachio matcha cookie was amazing. Superior customer service here as well - we were cold and asked if they could turn on the heat lamps. Though they weren't able to, they offered to bring us blankets which kept us comfortable. We also asked for some extra sauce which they happily did. Really standout and friendly customer service - thank you, Bryan and Yanis! Only downside to this place is the prices are pretty high, but you're in Malibu... at the country mart... and the food / ambiance / service are great, so maybe it won't even bother you. read more

I'm honestly surprised I hadn't heard of this place before and never noticed this little nook in Malibu Colony. Loved the vibe and ambience at Pura Vida. It's so open and bright and feels like the perfect lunch spot for beautiful LA weather. The decor is a vibe, and it's very dog friendly, which I loved. The menu has great options. We ordered the empanada trio, pesto chicken sandwich, spicy tuna bowl, and the seasonal smoothie. I really liked the empanadas, but my husband didn't. The chicken pesto was good but nothing special. The spicy tuna bowl was my favorite though, perfect ingredients and portions, and I would 100% order it again. The seasonal smoothie was good but not something I'd crave, especially for $20. Overall, I was really impressed and will definitely come back often for my Malibu day trips. It's a great spot for friends, families, group hangouts, dates, all of the above. I don't really get the hype about this place. Sure its got nice decoration and you can't beat the location but the food is just bland. Service is meh. I'm not sure if it's even worth the wait. My drink was the main disappointment for me. I ordered the strawberry matcha - its was basic. Very tasteless and barely any strawberries in there. Its hard to mess up a drink, but if you are a matcha drinker, you can tell by just looking at my photo that something is off. This place is such a great addition to the area. The decor and ambiance give a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Their team is attentive and welcoming. I wish I would have known they are cashless. I always tip cash and I was told since they are cashless they cannot accept a cash tip. I tried their Thai Salad and an iced oat milk Matcha latte. The salad was fresh. The dressing had a lil kick to it and tasted homemade. My matcha latte wasn't mixed properly and my first couple of sips tasted super sweet. By the time I gave it a good shakes/stir I had already drank most of the syrup which was disappointing. I'd still come back again as everything tasted fresh. Definitely worth a visit. read more

I love the location in Miami but the LA spots not only taste different, the service is ridiculous. I was here 3 days ago and asked for a super green smoothie with less ginger. The employee told me I can either get with ginger or without. I asked if the smoothies are already made she said no they make it upon request...confused I asked why she can't just put less ginger.... She said she doesn't have a button for less ginger. Already becoming our regular Malibu breakfast spot! My husband and I discovered Pura Vida a few weeks ago and it has quickly become one of our favorite spots in Malibu. Since our first visit, we've already been back several times! The ambiance is beautiful: bright, clean, and very aesthetic with white tones and washed woods that create such a fresh, relaxing atmosphere. What really sets this place apart is the service. A special shoutout to Luis, one of the managers, who was incredibly attentive. My husband is a very picky eater and Luis took the time to help tailor his order exactly how he likes it. Both times everything came out perfect, which honestly doesn't always happen even at fine dining restaurants when you request substitutions. Also a thank you to Sammy for recommending one of the limited-time creatine smoothies, it was fantastic! We live in Westlake Village but my husband has an office in Malibu, so this will definitely be one of our regular breakfast and coffee spots. From many options to choose indicates there is a fairly large menu. So far of what I've tried, my favorite sandwich is the tuna sprout (runner up is the pesto chicken on multi grain sourdough!) For drinks it's the hot or iced spiced chai or matcha with oat and pistachio mylk, respectively and the Welcome to Miami smoothie. You can tell the brand is intentional about their food and values. . The staff are well trained, kind and informative. It's refreshing to see people that care about their work and doing it well together. It's clear the employees care for the space because the venue is super clean. The design dons white and wood wicker chairs, neutral toned chandeliers and an elevated rustic aesthetic. They are tucked away behind Kith on Civic Center Way and offer a plush patio with benches, fountains, flower beds and grass surroundings. . There is only one restroom inside the restaurant, nonetheless, several others with stalls are sprinkled throughout the plaza. came here on a Sunday around 2:00 PM with my family, and as expected, it was packed. Even so, the wait wasn't terrible--about 15-20 minutes--which I was totally fine with. Unfortunately, the service once we were seated was really disappointing. Food came out completely unorganized. First, they brought my child's meal. Then they brought mine and my daughter's plates. Two of our meals never arrived, and we had to ask about them. By the time those plates finally came out, the rest of us were almost done eating because we were starving. It honestly felt like the kitchen and servers were all over the place. When they finally brought the missing plates, they apologized, but it looked like the food had been sitting there for a while and no one bothered to bring it out. They really need to organize their food delivery better, especially when it's busy. As for the food itself, it was just okay. My family liked it, but I wasn't impressed, and it's not a place I would return to. The kids' meal was especially disappointing--$16 for a very dry piece of chicken breast with rice and frozen corn felt like a complete rip-off. The chicken lacked flavor and was overcooked.
