Tiffany and Dylan assisted me at the host stand with my to-go order. Despite the fact that the place was incredibly busy, they were both so welcoming and attentive. They even expedited our order and thoughtfully added fresh fruit and dried mango for my mom. Those unexpected details really stood out. The bar happened to be under construction during our visit, but Jessie still managed to make the wait enjoyable by curating a couple of exceptional customized cocktails. My son has been studying WSET and CMS, so I've learned enough about hospitality and wine/beverage service to recognize true professionalism when I see it--and Jessie absolutely delivered. This visit was a great reminder of why we keep coming back to CBC. Beautiful spot, food is delicious. Service can be a bit spotty. Even so, their tip is guaranteed given they add 18% automatically to each bill. Don't seat you right away even when the place is half empty if "you're not a hotel guest" even with reservations. It's an impressive spot when you have out of town, but not a go to. read more

We were easily able to make same day early dinner reservations for outdoor seating (highly recommend). We started with the calamari, which was lightly friend to perfection, and the focaccia with compound butter. We ordered the halibut and steak for our mains - generous portions, balanced flavors, thoughtfully made. We finished off with the deep dish cookie, another hit. Our waiter Anthony was amazing! Ever hear the expression "too many cooks in the kitchen?" I can promise you that does not apply to Carbon Beach Club! We took my mother-in-law to this restaurant for her 70th birthday. We waited for our table despite having a reservation, but it was only a few minutes. The real waiting started once we sat down. We ordered several appetizers but they came out sporadically. I had to flag down the waiter to get more water after everyone was empty. It had probably been 30 minutes since he checked on us. The entrees came out about an hour after we ordered. When it came time for dessert, I asked if it would take awhile and we contemplated stopping at another restaurant for dessert. The hostess said they only had one cook in the kitchen but she would ask them to rush the dessert. They comped the pazooki due to the long wait throughout the meal. That was nice I guess. BUT, they charged us 18% tip included despite the terrible service, thirsty table and long wait times. Luckily for the staff, it was quite slow in the restaurant which was probably because the phone rang unanswered throughout most of our meal. People kept checking their cell phones because the restaurant phone had the same ring tone as a FaceTime call. The management at this restaurant should be embarrassed. If you decide to go here, pack a lunch and bring your water bottle. Maybe they'll let you have a picnic on the patio next to the ocean. I was looking forward to coming here for a long time and I finally went yesterday. I have to say, the service is amazing. We order the steak frites and although my hopes were higher, it definitely was a little underwhelming when it arrived. Our steak came basically raw and extremely undercooked, but our server was kind enough to give us the menu and order a new dish. I felt really bad because the server was really nice so I did tip a little extra on top of the 18% service charge. The view is absolutely GORGEOUS. So excited to review this place and wanted to start off with a huge shoutout to our server, Matthew. He went above in beyond with recommendations -- not only for food, but for travel advice regarding national parks. Ambiance: we came at night and sat outside. Matt brought the space heater closer to us which was so kind. Such a beautiful view of Malibu beach Food: amaaaaazing. We had a 8 day trip in California and this was by far our favorite stop. -beef burger: big, filling, juicy! I would 10000% come back for this alone. -truffle fries: literally magic. Best so far in Cali! The organic ketchup was such an amazing touch! My friends kept raving about it -grilled avocado: we liked the dish, didn't love it. Surprised with the low rating - I was here for the 2nd time today for breakfast. First time we went here was for Christmas Day brunch. At that time we arrived around noon and they had a prefix menu which I was so glad we were told we don't have to order from there. The brunch menu had more choices. Since I had a great experience last time I came back and had breakfast here this morning. The weather was really gloomy so when we arrived at 9am the outdoor seats were closed. It was ok we just sat by the lounge area next to the window. I ordered lobster omelette and my SIL ordered salmon toast. Like I say in any reviews I make and will make for Malibu - I go here for the nice view, beach and sun. There were no actual tables available next to the window but they were kind enough to let us sit in the lounge area and set up our tables there. The servers were always attentive checking on us often. The lobster omelette had a decent amount of meat but it's on the smaller size compared to other restaurants that serve the same thing. I think the best time to go here is for breakfast:brunch or lunch. When we left they opened at he balcony for lunch service. Last Sunday, I went for lunch at the cafe. Reservation at 12:30 , food served at 1:45 and 3 plates out of 4 , we hade to wait an extras 15 minutes resulting to cold food. One waiter came, ask for our drinks, brought the drinks never saw him again, We had to ask for a waiter to come to take our orders, but the worst part is that all the customers who were coming in were served before us. I felt a lot of discrimination and extremely poor service 18% gratuity not well deserved. Unless you're popping bottles of wine, expect to be ignored. The gratuity is included so lackluster service is a plague in this place, and staff knows they can move at a snails pace and not bother being friendly. I felt no warmth from any staff besides the bartender. My salmon was swimming in a very underwhelming teriyaki water next to some sad broccolini-not a $40 dish. You're paying for a view of the beach, but you can get great views and food and service elsewhere. The only thing memorable about this meal is the broccolini stuck in my teeth. This hotel knows they have a captive audience, the guests, so save yourself the trouble and explore more flavorful and friendlier alternatives like Malibu Farm or Nobu. read more

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for so long, and finally, we went to grab dinner last weekend. I have some controversial thoughts; the location is without any doubt a 100/10, but I cannot say the same thing for the food. First off, we had a reservation, and the host was very helpful in finding the best table for us. The service was nice, and the ambiance is just amazing--so chill and relaxing. We ordered oysters, grilled octopus, and clam pasta. Before ordering, I asked if the oysters were fresh because you cannot eat oysters everywhere, but since we were in Malibu, we didn't second-guess it. The server assured us they were fresh, mentioning they were from Canada, so we ordered a half dozen. As soon as I saw the oyster plate, I immediately knew they were not good--two out of six were dried up, without any juice in them, but I didn't say anything to avoid ruining the vibes. We tried them, and they weren't cleaned properly; the last two bites were the worst--I couldn't eat them, it smelled so bad and taste ever worse) and ended up spitting them out. The flavors of the grilled octopus were actually nice, but it needed to be grilled a bit more. The pasta was a bit firm, not al dente but actually undercooked. I think I'd still give it 4 stars, but the next day, my friend got a stomach flu, and we're almost certain it was from the oysters. Had a reservation for a ten year wedding anniversary dinner with my wife tonight and was sat down 30 minutes after. Warm and inviting is not Carbon Beach Clubs strong point. Disinterested hostess and waiter, but super friendly bartender. Food was way below average for the price. Looking for an ocean view but also want disrespectful service and have your reservation not honored on time because they're holding tables of three and four that don't get used, then use your credit card to book a reservation! There's a review for this place that has a couple that celebrating their anniversary with free sorbet and it says happy anniversary. No one even mentioned ours to us. read more

A friend took me for lunch to Carbon Beach Club and we enjoyed an outstanding dining experience.  This venue is one of the loveliest and most peaceful places to dine in Malibu :-) Tip: The restaurant is situated inside the Malibu Beach Inn, and it offers outdoor seating just steps from the ocean We were seated promptly, and our waitress was both attentive and friendly throughout the meal.  She saw to it that our water glasses were never empty, and offered us cocktail refills whenever we were in danger of finishing them.  She also gave us several spot on menu recommendations. I opted for the Branzino (head to tail presentation, ratatouille, arugula, charred lemon) and he went with the Steak Frites (grilled 8oz. angus tenderloin filet, truffle butter, choice of frites).  Both dishes were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented.  The excellence of the food was even more enjoyable because of the beauty of the setting and the sound of the surf crashing on the shore in the background :-) I wouldn't hesitate to return, and look forward to a sunset dinner here in the near future. read more

My Son took me here on Saturday April 27th for an early birthday lunch as we were in Ventura for my nephews wedding! And while I don't much care for overpriced menus, my beautiful boy insisted and just would not give in not only for my birthday but for the experience. So I entertained it and we went, and I must say I felt out of place because of all the looks of money and such, but my boy made me feel like I belonged and that I had just as much right to be there! So we stayed, he asked the lovely host if we could wait for a table on the patio, and she said it would take about 40 minutes! We both decided to sit in their the little bar area and had a couple of drinks, I had two Mojitos (yum) and shishito peppers. The bartender was very accommodating, nice and kind. 20 minutes later the lovely host (I think her name was Mensie or Mensa? She was Host in Training) came over and told us our table on the patio was ready and took us out there. She also kept checking on us if we were okay with the table! We ordered a few appetizers another couple Mojitos for me and all that filled me up that by the time we had to order lunch, he ordered his lobster roll as I had no more space! All in all the food was good considering it was a pretty penny especially the king crabs being $80 for four pieces but it was so worth it! They were delicious. After my son paid the bill and I wanted a picture with the ocean background. The entire time the Manager never came to move tables but when we got up to take a pic he kinda snapped for us to move as if it were gonna take us 40 mins to take pics! We were there all of 5 seconds and he could not have waited? We paid a lot of money for his food and to me that was rude! In addition I have to add that our server was the absolute worst, he never name came to check on us, servers for other tables we had to ask for help! When he finally came we asked for the crab legs and he said because ordered late (5 mins) that order has fallen at the bottom of the chefs list! We asked for Salt n Pepper, another Mojito but it never came! The passing servers I asked for Salt n Pepper and a split second later - got it! Another server passed and I asked for my Mojito and not soon after it arrived! We kind of chalked it up to him being on the older side so thought to leave it alone but then again, don't think he cared much because the gratuity was already added to the bill so he knew he was getting that tip with good or bad service! Truthfully the Cheese honey appetizer was supposed to be hot but cause it didn't come out when ready, it was cold as were the truffle fries! Could it be? I don't know - maybe he should host instead of server? Honestly, If you're paying that kind of money then the service should be on point on top and the best! Aside from the Manager and our server - everything was great! Would I go there again? Maybe - but it would be for the servers that constantly helped us, the bartender and host! Place was recommended as a great restaurant to take my wife for her birthday but the night was a disaster. Hostess was not pleasant. When we finally sat, we waited :30 minutes before anyone even said hello to us. We actually had to order drinks from the hostess. When a nearby table complained that they hadn't received any service it helped us finally get some attention as well. Food was good but came out in odd fashion. Side of fries that was supposed to be with the meal, came out with the salad. Entree didn't come out for an hour. The other couple cancelled their entree and left. We finally got ours but lost our appetite so we had them box it to take it home. Even without the entree, the waiter came by and asked if we were ready for dessert. It was bizarre. On the way home I planned to stop at another restaurant to get my wife her birthday desert but everyone was closed at this point. This restaurant is located inside the inn. It has an amazing view and is located right on the beach. I loved sitting there and taking photos of the ocean water. When we first got there we were greeted by Sarah and she was very nice and pleasant. She helped us to our seats and also helped us take some group pictures. We ordered the flat iron steak and the lobster omelets to try. I expected the lobster omelet to just have a few pieces of lobster but instead I got egg on the outside and a ton of lobster inside. It was incredible. I really recommend getting this dish. The flat iron steak and fries wears also really good but i really enjoyed the lobster omelet. read more

Spent my Sunday having a wonderful sunset dinner here not knowing what to expect and boy was I taken away by the view, atmosphere, and dinner. We were served by wonderful 5 course meal by Michelin Star Chef Luigi Fineo and it was simply one the best meals I've had.
