I can't rave enough about Pure Aesthetica. I've gotten facials at 2 other places in the local area but found the places just lacking and quite frankly, the prices are too expensive. I found Pure Aesthetica by doing a pot of research to make sure they use products that don't irritate my skin. Came here before the pandemic and during the pandemic. Their protocols during the pandemic was appreciated and I'm so happy they took precautions because it made me feel confident in going especially that I was desperate. I had some major maskne issues that really needed to be addressed. Tiffany always does my facials and she's great. She tailors the facial according to your needs. I always get the regular 3 in 1 facial. My favorite is the micro current and the oxygen afterwards. It just makes my face so nice, subtle, and soft. Been coming here for about 2 years now and counting! They have specials for new customers so check that out if you're interested in trying. They also get booked very quickly so make sure to book way in advance. Prices are affordable in my opinion. Other places charge over $200 for a facial which does not even include micro current or oxygen or microdermabrasion. The 3 in 1 is so affordable and is about an hour. Yesterday was the most relaxed I've ever been in my life, thanks to Jodey and John at Pure Aesthetica! First, I had a facial with Jodey (the 3 in 1 signature). Like a true professional who takes pride in her work, she clearly explained every step of the service. I'm a nerd and I want to know the scientific reasoning behind the procedures, so I appreciated that she welcomed questions and was happy to indulge my curiosity. The service also includes massaging of the scalp, shoulders, hands, and feet, so it felt amazing on top of helping my skin (my skin looks very good but I think I'll need to wait a day or two longer before fully assessing the results). Next I had a massage with John. I had just ran a half marathon the previous day, so I was very sore in my quads and knees. I assumed that he'd have to avoid those areas because they were so sensitive. Little did I know that his magic touch would be so effective at soothing my aching muscles and joints. I just remember thinking... wow, I didn't realize a massage could help this much! I had also been experiencing bad knots in my upper back, and he seemed to have relaxed those out because I feel much better. Both services were really high quality, and on top of that, Jodey and John are warm, kind people who are just nice to be around. I walked away feeling cared for and absolutely blissful. Short story: The Signature LED facial was AMAZECAKES holy crap. My skin looks so much brighter and less spotty, and that was just ONE treatment. Jeannie, you're awesome! Long story: I made an appointment to get their Signature LED Facial. Since it was my first facial (stop laughing), so it was 50% off. But don't think that because the price is cut in half that they do a half-assed job with the facial. You'd be so, so wrong. Jeannie got me all set up and comfortable - she, btw, is a walking advertisement for the treatments in Pure Aesthetica. Her skin is amazing! The facial started off with a microdermabrasion treatment that was surprisingly gentle and comfortable. Jeannie took her time and was very careful to focus on problem areas, and go gentle on more sensitive skin. Then came the dreaded extractions, but again, Jeannie was a pro and got the areas around my nose and cheeks cleared out with little pain (I'm a lot rougher on my skin than she was!) The second part of the treatment was the LED part - you basically lie there with a pair of googles to block out the lights, and take a nap as your face bathes under red LEDs (for about 8 minutes) then blue (12 minutes). The third part of the treatment was a cooling hydration mask that smelled good enough to eat (cucumber based, with all kinds of good stuff.) Finally, to end the session, I got a head/neck massage. Again, Jeannie really took care to 1) do a fantastic job 2) really take time to focus on problem areas (my skin is crap, dudes) 3) explained each step and what each part of the facial will do 4) answer all my questions. Part of me is sad that this facial turned out so awesome because OMG, I'm gonna have to give up cable so I can add this to my regimen, along with the massages at Pure Aesthetica :) read more

Conveniently located in Del Ray - I say convenient because you can shop a the cute little shops and eat afterwards since you're on the main strip :) First off, this is not some place that's just interested in taking your money. You can tell they care about healthy living and your well-being. They even have classes on raw eating. Blink and you'd miss the place, since it has a tiny sign and is located on the 2nd floor. Hello, I've been to Del Ray lots of times and never noticed it. The space is not overly modern or frou frou. It's just neat and tidy and even homey. The hubs and I both had an appt. with John. The hubs opted for the 75-minute sports massage and I opted for the 75-minute Swedish massage. John really cared about the reason I was there. He really wanted to know about the areas I wanted him to concentrate on. I didn't know how to tell him I was there just cuz I'm uber lazy lately and simply wanted to be pampered. HAHA. I did tell him that I normally have the whole tech-worker shoulders/upper back tenseness issues. Anyway, John was absolutely thorough, his technique was as good as it gets, and he spoke with a soothing tone. As my friends may know, I've had many massages in different states - heck, even different countries, from the Ritz to the local massage place. John is definitely in the top 3 of my faves. Yes, they're more expensive than some places, but it's worth it. It's typically $135 for a 90 minute massage. Good news is, it's only $75 for your first time. I think they do this because they just know you'll be back at full price after you experience them once! This good pricing goes for the other services as well. I went to Pure Aesthetica on Thursday for a Breakout Facial. Tiffany (my esthetician) was AMAZING! She first took 10 minutes to go over my skincare regimen and I learned soooo much! I have had a dermatologist for years and they've not given me as much information as Tiffany did! She explained every part of the facial as it was happening which helped really helped. I also really appreciated that she did not try to push products on me or even push me to schedule another appointment. I booked the signature "3 in 1" facial, a 90-minute originally $200 (first visit is $100) massage/facial. I arrived 10 minute early, as instructed; at the beginning of the hour, my esthetician took me back to the room and proceeded to give me 12 minutes (of my 90 minute facial appointment) to change. Really?! I assumed that the treatment would run over by 10 minutes in order to compensate for this time, but it did not. What was included in this typically $200, now 78 minute facial? The first 8-10 minutes were spent rubbing my hands and feet with what appeared to be vaseline, covering them in plastic, and putting them in electrically warming booties/mittens. Strange. We're now at 20 minutes into the facial, when the esthetician finally begins by doing a microdermabrasion treatment. The intent is to remove the most outer layer of skin using to promote a smoother face (I did not see this result in the days after). This was followed by extractions. In every other facial I've received, steam is applied to the face to allow pores to open before doing extractions; the esthetician skipped that step and used her FINGERNAILS (not a sterile metal tool, although she was wearing gloves) to press my pores. She did a thorough job on my chin, but completely skipped my forehead. After extractions, she applied a hydrating mask. I found it quite odd that she commented about having very dry under-eye skin, but that she entirely skipped that region of my face when applying the mask. I guess the services aren't customized? The process of removing the mask easily took 10 minutes. It was a painstaking process of having someone rub a washcloth as slowly as they possibly could over my face. The final component of the facial was an oxygen treatment. This was followed by a really sub-par massage on my legs, arms and neck/skull. There was no pressure applied at all during the massage; it truly felt like a light petting. And the skull massage involved the estetician scratching (not massaging ) my head with her fingernails. The results 1 week later? Unapparent. My skin looks the same, and I actually developed a breakout for the first time in awhile. Save your money and time; go elsewhere. read more

I avoided prenatal massages because 1) you need someone who knows what he/she is doing; and 2) I have been told most massages are unsatisfying because of "soft touches" that don't amount to very much relaxation. The environment was calm and quiet, and before we started the massage, Kelly asked just the right amount of questions to gauge my needs. She seems to be person who loves what she does and it absolutely shows. Remember those massages you get when you repeatedly tell your therapists where you want them to focus but they never really do it?! Remember when you ask for deep tissue, they give you (I don't know what) soft touches on your skin?! Those days are gone! I have finally discovered a professional massage therapist who listens to you and is very skilled! After purchasing it, I called the spa and spoke with Jodey who was very friendly and professional on the phone, and answered all the questions I had. When I showed up for my appointment two days later, John, the massage therapist, was checking out the previous client. While waiting, I was offered a glass of this very tasty water. Later on, Jodey told me the secret recipe. John took his time asking me what I wanted out of the massage and explained to me how certain muscles are connected and why I was feeling tense in certain parts of my body. I booked a massage and facial with a friend for a birthday celebration, we loved the fact that we were the only two clients and alternated treatment rooms for our spa day. We loved the cinnamon water, the fruit puree and the bath robes that were offered to us. I was thankful for the the new customer special (50% off most services) as two treatments at full price would have been astronomically priced. But still felt even at the new customer special of 50% off I overpaid for the experience we had. The massage was ok - I was expecting a deep tissue massage but received more of a gentle touch massage. The facial seemed more focused on the machines in the room (steamer and the micro dermal thing) than the face masks, cleansers, extractions and other things that I am more accustomed to with a facial. I treated myself to a 90 minute deep tissue massage with Natasha. I can not say enough great things! The atmosphere is very clean and calming with sound machines around so there is no noise from other people. I told her my area spots and she successfully was able to get out A LOT of knots I have. She spent about 30-40 on my right neck/shoulder area but still had enough time to massage my entire body in 90 minutes. There were many "kinks" to get out but I was very relaxed during and after the wonderful experience. 90 minutes is just enough time to fully appreciate the entire experience. Apparently I was very lucky, as I booked my appointment the day before and actually got a spot because someone cancelled. Had a fabulous microdermabrasion appointment with Aubree today. She took off just enough so that my face was smooth but not irritated. When she was done, she told me that my skin tone was even and not inflamed like when I came in. I thought to myself "riiiiight..." Saw Nely for the Signature 3 in 1 facial. It was amazing. I arrived about half an hour early for my appt time and she was more than happy to take me earlier. It was my first time at PA and I didn't know what to expect. From the moment I walked in till the moment I left I was treated so warmly and felt so relaxed. She is very honest and passionate about skincare. I asked her if I needed any of the additional add on peels and she was very honest and told me it wasn't necessary. She even recommended a cheaper facial for next time since I did not need everything the Signature 3 in 1 facial offered. I love her honesty and professionalism. I have never had a facial before and decided to try out Pure Aesthetica due to the fantastic reviews on Yelp. I booked my appointment for the Signature LED Facial with Aubree. I arrived early, filled out some paperwork and drank some delicious cinnamon infused water. First impression: complete. I was very impressed with Aubree - she immediately makes you feel comfortable and talks to you as though you've known her forever. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous about a facial as I've heard that people tend to break out afterwards and I'm getting married in a week. The good thing is that it has been 4 days and I still haven'tbroken out. My skin feels amazing and soft - I have a big issue with dryness and hyperpigmentation due to acne scaring, so this is a HUGE deal to me. My other, less important issue, is the ridiculous amount of blackheads I have. Unfortunately, these are still there, but I'm guessing I would have to do a different type of treatment to start taking care of those. Overall I'm very happy - the four stars may rise to five once I go back and do a series of LED treatments to try and finally overcome my acne, scarring and discoloration. Great place!!! I've finally found my massage place! Let it be said that massages are a ridiculously personal experience - and I don't just mean because your nude body is being rubbed by a stranger with only a thin cotton "napkin" separating you from them - but because everyone truly does like something a little different. So I'll start off by saying I like an even balance between relaxation and productivity. I want to leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, but also like they got that horrible knot out of my neck and shoulders without bruising my delicate skin. John did exactly that. I had a 90 minute Swedish for my first visit and felt comfortable, relaxed and taken care of the entire time. I was the priority for those 90 minutes and the few moments before and after. The massage was perfect. He checked in without talking too much. He worked out knots without getting aggressive or fixating on a single spot. He made me forget that with a single "whoosh"of wind I'd be naked as a newborn on his table, drooling out of the side of my mouth. And like a perfect first date, when it all said and done, he left me wanting to see him again and with a pleasant taste in my mouth (too far?) ...OK maybe the fresh watermelon juice and dried pineapple chip helped with that last part. read more

I got engaged a few months ago and everyone told me a year out go to an aesthetician to have them evaluate my skin to make sure it is wedding ready. I also recently had a not so great experience elsewhere where my eyebrows were overwaxed and needed to get that fixed as well. After much research I booked an appointment online for a eyebrow shaping with Crystal and and facial with Jeannie. Their location is not "spa" like but for my purposes of wanting to relax and have my skin taken care of on a regular basis I was fine with that. I don't need the bell and whistles of fancy decor as long as I'm relaxed and my services are good. Crystal was great when we first met as I explained what happened and evaluated what was going on with my eyebrows explained what she would do and what the way forward was with getting them back to the way they should be. She let me know that this was going to be a process and that i would have to be patient. Well I have been seeing her for the last four months and I have say it has been a slow process by no fault of her. If it was as easy to grow them out as it is for one over zealous waxer to take your brow off then many of would be so lucky. She is kind and take time with her work which I really appreciate. When I booked my appointment online with Jeannie I just booked what I thought would be best. When I arrived Jeannie had me sit down and evaluated my skin and made suggestions for what facial would work best for me vs just going with what I chose online. I got the LED facial and it was amazing. The next day I started to feel and see the changes to my skin. Jeannie is kind, caring and really listens to you and what you are looking to achieve. I have had a few facials with her and she always takes the time to explain the benefits of what each thing is and when i see her after a treatment she always asks what i liked or disliked so that she can make each experience better for me. I have also appreciated that they both have not tried to force products on me. When I have run into a question about a product that I am using they have sometimes said to use a over the counter product and said we do have this item here that can help and it is up to you. Both these ladies are amazing and I have seen improvements in my skin after going once a month for the past four months. Also I highly recommend the Pigment Punch Clarity Peal. She starts by putting lotion on your hands and feet; microdermabrasion; microcurrent or hydrating mask (depends on your skin type and her recommendation); oxygen facial; massage for arms, legs, shoulders, and scalp. I selected Pure Aesthetica based upon the Yelp reviews, their menu of services, and the prices. I'm REALLY glad I decided on it because it was a wonderful place to get a facial! I decided on the Microdermabrasion + Oxygen facial based on my particular skin type (kind of combination but much more oily, acne prone, some sensitivity, drier in the winter) and would book it every time I go. I specifically booked with Nely because of the glowing reviews I read about her, and she was extremely amiable. She explained all the steps in the process and was conversational as much as I wanted, so we stayed quiet the majority of the time. It was soooo relaxing and enjoyable. She had a very delicate touch, and she took care applying the different cleansers, masks, and with the microdermabrasion and oxygen treatment. There was also extraction (mighty painful in certain areas, though she told me beforehand if it was too uncomfortable she would stop) and at the end, a face, neck, and scalp massage. I've never had extraction before, so I'm not positive what constitutes worthy of being extracted. I have large pores that get clogged, and I still have clogged pores tonight, but she also went over my entire skincare regimen with me and perhaps she assumed that would clear the rest up, focusing instead on the deeper blackheads. She wore gloves the entire time, which I appreciated because I'm very cautious about sanitation in spas/salons. They also offer cinnamon infused water (delicious) at the beginning and end and you leave with a shot of fresh grapefruit-cranberry juice and a little slice of dehydrated pineapple (I wanted to take a bag with me). I'm very excited to book with Nely again. The prices are reasonable, it's very sanitary, and it's nice and quiet. read more

I saw Katie twice for acupuncture treatments. I had been experiencing swelling and pain in my knee for over a week, and at that time I was searching for someone to see me asap. I called around to about 5 different places in Alexandria and she was able to see me within a few days. That was a definite plus as many places and acupuncturists are only available one or two days out of the week and you must book weeks in advance. Katie was very kind and welcoming for my first experience with acupuncture. She did a thorough evaluation and explained every step of the process. She took her time and I could tell her care was genuine. I am a true believer in traditional eastern medicine and after the first treatment my knee did feel a lot better. I returned for a second visit, had another great experience with Katie, and a week later my knee was healed. This is a review of Katie's work, not acupuncture. I don't know if my experiences with acupuncture are common, but everyone's body heals differently and acupuncture was only a portion of my care. I give Katie and Pure Aesthetica 4/5 stars for great service and a cozy location. I dropped one star because it is a tad bit pricey, but I understand that I am paying for more than just the needles. I went here this evening for a 60 minute swedish massage and was very impressed. I was welcomed by smiling faces and given a cool glass of cinnamon water while I filled out an intake form. The waiting area and the massage rooms are very comfortable and nicely decorated. I love that the table is heated; especially after coming in from the cold! The massage itself was given by Natasha and it was probably the best massage I have ever had. In addition to her massage skills, she also provides hot towels for your shoulders and neck while she works on the rest of the body - what a great touch! When I was checking out I was given a little glass of freshly squeezed tangerine juice and a dehydrated pineapple slice that they make there. Again, what a great little touch. I'm going to see Katie for acupuncture. I feel at ease with her and trust her completely. The treatments are relaxing and each time I've nearly fallen asleep. The treatment rooms are soothing and the location is very convenient - with parking available as well! I have already recommended Katie to my yoga instructor. read more
