They convinced me to install new unit and charged me almost $20k. It's never worked. They don't know how to fix it and won't respond to phone calls. Going in to our second summer without air conditioning. These guys are scam artists. My kids also don't feel safe when these guys are at my house due to the incessant racist, homophobic and transphobic rants and conspiracy theories they treat us to every time they come over. They do great work, thus the 3 stars. The problem is, they told us they were going to come on Monday to fix our air conditioning.. which is fine we would have been fine to survive the weekend, but they showed up unannounced Saturday. Luckily someone was home and they were in an out in less than 2 hours, but when it was time to pay they charged a weekend emergency fee or whatever they said.. which was TRIPLE the price. And the manner of how they asked about a recent death in the family was extremely unprofessional, quite upsetting, and very rude. I've though over writing this review for a few days, but Im still upset about this. We will be going with a different company next time. read more

Transparent, timely communication & responses from installation to bug fixes. Technically excellent & easily understood. I would not recommend their service. I recently wanted to add an Ecobee thermostat to my home. I called to set up a time because we needed a 5th common wire, per the directions by Ecobee. John came to my home and looked into the wall with his flashlight and said "you have only 4 wires we need 5, you need to have a 5th wire put in" He couldn't do this service on the spot, which was no big deal. Keep in mind John is the owner of this service and I have had them since they bought out Spring Grove Heating and Cooling. I have had their service for 12 years. I also had them install my office furnace and air conditioner as well about 4 years ago. John wanted me to use the Honeywell thermostat because this is what he understands. I can accept this. However I asked him what it would cost to add a 5th wire, he quoted $530, and I asked how much to install the Ecobee and was given $470. A total of $1,000. I thought this was a little steep. Found out it was.... So, I called another HVAC company. They came out to my home and pulled the wires. Low and behold, I have 6 wires in the wall for both thermostats. No additional wires needed. Other company hooked up the wires and my Ecobee thermostats for $135. Took 1 hour and its done now, not two weeks later as that was as soon as Pure Air could make it. The quote I got from Pure Air was a Pure Ripoff. I won't be back. He can't blame a tech or someone else, this was the owner of this company and he should know better. Don't work with them, I'm not impressed. Look elsewhere. read more

This company is absolutely phenomenal. Fey, the receptionist/office manager is kind and efficient. We had an emergency when our heater in our recently bought condo went out suddenly. They sent someone out same day and fit us into a very busy schedule. Our unit is original to the 1984 building so unfortunately the part we needed was special order. They shipped it over night and came back next day to install. When the part was faulty John did everything he could to get us a new one asap. When the part was going to take days he even offered to let us borrow space heaters from his shop. We ended up deciding on getting an entirely new system but they were absolutely wonderful throughout the whole process. I would absolutely recommend them. Purchased this furnace in 10/2011. 2/18/ heard a rumbling and furnace output stopped, so turned it off. Called Pure Air, Inc,. a local company since the original installer was out of town. Someone from Pure Air, Inc AKA known as Spring Grove Heating, 3010 N. Lake Terrace, Genvieve, IL 60025 phone 877-724-8188 came out on 2/18/15. Invoice number S8060. The workman found a bad blower motor. The furnace was less than five years old and was supposed to be under warranty. The workman claimed they were an "authorized repair center for Goodman", but would NOT replace the motor under warranty since I did not buy the furnace from THEM. When I argued he said I could call someone else and leave the furnace disassembled until someone else came the next day with a warranty replacement. Temp outside at ZERO degrees and home temp at 50F I could not wait. Was charged over $400. for the motor, which should have been under warranty. I want that money back and this dealer barred from saying the are an "authorized dealer" for Goodman. I will also write Goodman Mfr and complain. read more

Not happy at all with this company. I contacted them when I seen the coupons in the value pac that I get in the mail. I called and they said it would be no problem, the only stipulation was that it would be for a single home family with 1 furnace.. First of all we had an appointment scheduled which means we have to change our work schedules to accommodate when they will be there(a 5 hours span) then they cancel on us last minute. Re-schedule next day, they call and say they will be there in 20 minutes. They showed up 1 1/2-2 hours later... Come in look at the furnace and state that they can't do the duct cleaning due to the fact of where our furnace is situated. Their equipment is too large? and that was that! Pure Air is amazing. John the owner came to our house in Evanston when I was interviewing HVAC contractors to look for a solution to the uneven temperatures in our 4 story home. All the HVAC companies suggested getting a Zoning system, but John impressed me with his knowledge and easy going presentation. Price: Pure Airs bid was substantially cheaper as well. Results: the house is now the same temp whether you are on the 1st or 4th floor. They also did all our renovation work on our House in Mettawa. They now handle all of our service needs in Evanston home. read more

I have been a customer of this company for more than 10 years and for most of that time I have always been reasonably satisfied with their performance. However, they are not a firm I would ever use again and would suggest consumers consider virtually any other option before hiring Pure Air. Last month, during a routine inspection of my air conditioner, the technician discovered that my condensate pump had failed. During the process he asked me to come down to the basement to demonstrate that the pump had failed. He emptied the water in the failed pump in the basement sink and plugged the pump into the adjacent outlet -- which is the outlet where the sump pump is plugged in. He showed me that the condensate pump had failed -- and gave himself a mild electrical shock in the process -- and I agreed to have it replaced at a cost of $350+. So all is well, right? Not quite. Two days later I went to take a shower and discovered that we had no hot water. I went to the basement and found the floor covered with 2-3 inches of water. I presumed that the hot water heater was broken and called a plumber. The plumber arrived shortly thereafter and said that there was nothing wrong with the water heater. The problem was that the sump pump was not plugged in and the water in the basement had extinguished the pilot light. When I looked at the sump pump outlet I noticed that it had only one plug -- that is, only one item can be plugged into the outlet at one time. Clearly the Pure Air technician had forgotten to plug the sump pump cord back in after demonstrating that the condensate pump had failed. The plumber plugged the sump pump back in and the water in the basement started draining. But the plumber suggested that I have the basement professionally disinfected and dried because in order to prevent an outbreak of mold and mildew. I then called Pure Air and the owner -- John -- came by the house that p.m. to inspect the damage. He questioned how his technician could have done this and hinted that someone else -- me, my wife, the cleaning lady (which we don't have) probably pulled the sump pump plug inadvertently. I explained to him that there is no way my wife or I touched the sump pump cord and that his technician was the only person in the basement that day. He initially suggested that his firm would clean and dry the basement, but then told me to go ahead and call I professional service to do the job and that he would cover the costs. I called Service Master and they completed the job at a cost of $2,200. Add that to the $170 for the plumber and my total expenses from this unfortunate event exceeded $2,300 -- not to mention the missed work time and hassle that I incurred trying to put my house back in the shape it was before the Pure Air technician arrived. When I emailed Pure Air the invoices from the plumber and Service Master, John called me to deny that his technician caused the damage and said they were not responsible for the expense. When I told him that this was ridiculous, he offered to "split the cost with me." Again, I told him that this was unacceptable. He then said that he would have to submit the loss to his insurance company and that they would reimburse me. Fast forward one month: Pure Air's insurance company denied the claim saying that it was a "he said, she said" issue and that there was "insufficient evidence" that the firm's technician cause the damage. This firm is anything but customer friendly. A word to the wise: call someone -- ANYONE -- else to fix your heating and cooling problems before you consider calling Pure Air. read more

I want to recount two dealings with Pure Air, My AC went out in the middle of the Summer heatwave in 2012 and John came out promptly , gave a quote hundreds below the outfit that diagnosed that the AC motherboard was toast, Came out promptly , installed the new unit at the price quoted in a very timely manner, very professional and tidy The second event was last winters' polar vortex when the blower moter went out on my heating It was not hard to get them to my house in short order even in the negative 20 degree morning , They diagnosed the problem, got the part and installed it the next day even though John and his tech had been up all night tending to emergencies caused by the deep freeze , They do fine work even when sleep walking! This winter, I was proactive and scheduled a regular heater maintenance check here at the start of winterJohn, the owner , showed up and got right to work on time, he encountered a huge mess of drywall dust coating the inside of my furnace from summer construction , he dug right in, cleaning all of it meticulously and completely , And came away coated in drywall dust from head to toe, he, seriously went above and beyond his cleaning , adjusting and testing the unit, He called the manufacturer to find out the proper OHmReading range for the igniter , determined that it was below the acceptable range, indicating that it may possibly fail this winter, he had a replacement humidifier filter in his truck to quickly swap out the original trashed one , he indicated that he will get the replacement igniter, email me with a quote for installation , and then have his office contact me to schedule. John, on his own , inspected my hot-water heater venting, noticed a serious issue, brought it to my attention , which I will need to address with my plumber , so , my review in short,; a company owned by a man of integrity, quality , significant skill , and, who gives more for your money than any other HVAC company on the Northshore and I've tried most of them for my four homes I also appreciate his office manager Faye ,who efficiently handles scheduling and billing issues I'm Sean, and I approve this review , and I approve of Pure Air for emergency repairs, replacements or regular maintenance , you will not regret calling John for any of your HVAC needs ! read more

I wish there was a no star choice on this page! Called Pure Air after doing some research seeing their reviews and deciding not to use ABT this time. I already knew the ignitor was bad and told the technican the minute he arrived 15 minutes later he was done. To my shock i get handed a bill for $265. I agreed to the $95 visit fee on the phone but 170 dollars to replace a ignitor and 15 minutes of labor cannot be $170! I then speak to the office and the owner and I get told about that even though it took 15 minutes the extra 15 minutes to speak to their office is what i got billed for which is even more ridiculous. Then on top the owner starts telling me about this business operating expenses and that is the reason my bill is 265 dollars. Customers beware and be extremely careful about their overblown costs and having to hear about how the cost of health insurance and gas and business is causing them to overcharge customers. Also got told how the time from Morton Grove to Glenview is costly which is about a 6 minute right from golf and Shermer to my house. I was going to ask for a quote on a furnace and of course refer business if things went well but they did not. While I understand the costs of doing business I also know that being fair about charging for services as part of business. I will not be calling them back nor would I recommend anyone else before calling around and comparing their costs and services to other providers. If I have to pay for someones travel time rather do it with someone who is fair on costs. Also their office is about 3 minutes away from my home and it still costs me a lot more then it should have for 15 minutes of work. read more

i got their name through my plumber that I trusted. We had an emergency, our basement was gushing with hot water, we were freaked out. Then we called Pure Air. They called back promptly, instructed us to do what we can in the mean time so we don't have to pay extra for overnight service. They came first thing in the morning, fixed the burst radiator heat pipe. They charged really reasonable price. I was really worried about the price since its 0 degree out. I am so happy now we have a good heating guy. read more

John is the owner of this company. He just finished installing two completely new HVAC systems in our home that was only built 11 years ago. The original system which included geothermal, was put in incorrectly and we called John to try find out a place to replace the horrible original system. John spent hours at our home prior to us committing to work with him just to try and figure out our complicated system. He made two proposals, and upon agreement, immediately got started on our project. Everyone who came to work on our project was on time and professional. They were great to have in my house and they completed the work on time. I would recommend Pure Air to anyone and everyone. They are professional and great at what they do! read more
