Scott did a terrific job today, not only repairing my under the sink valve water leak, but also replaced all the very old piping. My AC was really struggling during this heat wave so I called the company and they sent someone out the next morning. Great! The tech told me there was a definite leak in the system but because of the age of the unit he didn't recommend trying to find the leak. He said he could still fill with more coolant and charge it up and that should at a minimum get me through the heat wave. I asked him to set up an appointment for a quote on a new service, which he did for the next day. I was very happy with the tech and service call. The salesperson the next day, however, was another story. He tried to pressure me into going with the company for a full HVAC replace in the next day or he couldn't credit me for a portion of the work the tech did (note, he did magically find another discount when I said I would be taking a week or two to make a decision so that I could get multiple quotes on such an expensive project). He asked how he compared to other bids and I said the other bid I had gotten so far told me I only had to replace the air conditioner so I didn't consider it comparable. I noted I wasn't just price shopping, I wanted to understand why the things that were being recommended were being recommended. The salesperson replied that anyone who told me I did not need to replace the entire system needed his head examined and look at when it was manufactured, it's 20 years old! You have to take it out of the closet anyway to get to the other unit (which is the opposite of what another company told me). Now, I would have had no problem with him telling me that the unit is working fine now, I'm certainly living on borrowed time and the risks are that I pay double labor for installation; that's all true and I'm aware of that fact. But the way he responded was SO off-putting and completely avoided the substance that it pretty much made me write off going with this company no matter how other bids come in. I had an issue with a leak from my toilet. Scott, the technician, was great. AA Service kept me informed as to his arrival time and he texted me as he was on his way. Scott gave me options for the repair work. When I decided how I wished to proceed, he worked efficiently and let me know what he was finding. We called our usually plumber, but they were bought out by AA. We decided to use them even though their prices were significantly higher than usual. AA came out to rod out our lines, but then said they didn't have the right equipment and would need to come back another day. A couple days later, they show up with the hydro-jet. The fill up this huge water tank with my hose, and then the machine doesn't work. They stayed for another hour, but still nothing. The technician said they were trying to contact the owner of the hydro-jet machine for help, but since AA was behind on payment, they wouldn't help AA. They said they would be back the next morning with another machine. The next morning came and went. When I called to see where they were, I was told they were on another job and might be there in the afternoon. They finally came late in the afternoon to complete the work, but by then I had already lost an entire work day... not to mention the half day lost the day before. My advice- Find another company who is true to their word and will show up when they say they will show up... with working equipment! read more

AA Service has impressed me from the very beginning. Our condo has a roofing project & I was told I would likely need a new air conditioner due to the age of the existing unit. I asked a neighbor for a recommendation & she recommended AA Service. I am so glad she did! Jim Ford came out to provide an estimate. He quoted three choices, and I decided to go with the Lennox furnace & air conditioner. Jim went above and beyond my expectations! They needed to coordinate installation with the roofing company, provide a certificate of insurance required by the association, and he has insured any requests are handled in a timely manner. The installers were respectful of the property and did a great job! I am confident once the roofers give the go ahead, the air conditioner installation will be completed in a timely manner. I had 4 furnaces inspected on Dec 10th and the tech arrived and went to all the furnaces and it took a long time, but he finally got done and since it took so long and the guy was pleasant I tipped the guy $40 on a bill of $396. He left and the when one of my tenants returned home he called me and said his furnace was not turning on. So I called AA and then thinking it was some thing simple I climbed to the furnace via a ladder and the power to the furnace had been turned off. Switched it on and the furnace fired up. I called AA and said it was fixed. But 2 hours later my tenant called and said the furnace was off again. Called AA again and they did send out a guy who fixed it. The charge was $165 .The problem was the the inspecting tech had not put on the furnace cover correctly. I asked them if they would credit me with the charge and have not heard a thing, The tech said I might need a new blower motor for nearly $1900. So I then called and asked what a new furnace would cost because this furnace is 18 years old. No response. read more

Called for a diagnostic on my AC during a heat wave as I was leaving town for a week and couldn't have my cat stay in the hot apartment by himself. AC worked fine when manually activated but would not kick in once it reached my set temperature, figured it was just a thermostat issue. Was so happy when she said he would be out between 1pm-4pm. Waited and waited. Finally showed after 4pm, went up to the roof for 5 minutes and said I needed a whole new AC unit and he'd be happy to send someone out for a free quote. I asked if he could look at the thermostat as I had done some research and most answers pointed to the thermostat not working correctly. He said no point my AC is too old so he'd rather me pay for a whole new one than pay to try and fix it now. Walked away with my $90 of course for 5 minutes of their time. Finally decided yesterday to take a look at it myself, changed the batteries in the thermostat and all of a sudden it works perfectly fine. Unhelpful. read more

I recently had issues with my AC during a heat wave in Chicago. I reached out to AA service to have a tech come and look and diagnose the issue. I had an appointment scheduled on a Monday between 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM (This timeslot was what they company suggested, not what I asked). The repair person was an hour late not calling me until AFTER 8:00 PM. He asked if I still wanted the appointment. I was already frustrated and didn't want to wait longer for the repair so I had them come anyway. When they arrived, they were very professional but did not fix the issue. They mentioned I had a faulty control board and that they would provide an estimate. They also convinced me to sign up for some maintenance program ($30 a month and you get 'discounts' on parts and scheduled services are a flat rate vs paying multiple hours of labor). I agreed given I knew I would have the upcoming expense to repair the control board and signed up. The next day I received the 'estimate' of $1,700 which did not itemize anything. I did some online research regarding the part cost and made some expected labor estimates and came to 50% of their cost (which my estimate included sizeable mark ups for parts, tax, etc.). I called their company several times to discuss the details of their estimate. "We will call you back" they would frequently say without any follow up. When I finally DID get someone on the phone and asked if they can explain why the cost is so high they responded with "well we just use a computer system to come up with the cost." When pressing them further they just offered a 10% discount off the cost. For reference when I used THEIR estimate I looked up the model and part number online and found parts costs $450. I estimated 2 hours of labor with $150 per hour. With tax and mark up I came up with an estimate closer to $1,000 (which I feel is GENEROUS). Further research online was showing that control board replacement is 'relatively easy' you just need to ensure we have the same board as before. Why the person I spoke with couldn't walk me through details is beyond me. I feel this company has proven to me that 1) they are not informed on their own process 2) they have poor customer service and 3) they do not deliver or set appropriate expectations. read more

This is NO reflection on the work of the individual Thomas Richardson. He was the second person to install a Kohler Toilet seat with bidet function. The first guy, broke the replacement seat and blamed it on Kohler. Fortunately Kohler sent us a replacement - no questions. However, I was charged $400+ for it the second time. No apologies, no discounts, nothing. I have dealt with AA for the last 20 years, but only for HVAC !! Never have I experienced this kind of issues. Absolutely the worst company!!!! I scheduled three months in advance with Ahrens and Condill who was bought out by AA. I called to confirm my long awaited appt. (Made three months earlier so I could get a Saturday date). I called the day before the appointment to confirm and they NOW they had no record of any appointment for me. Instead they are now telling me they came to my house in June 2025? I'm the homeowner and they were never at my home in June. This new company is so messed up and have no idea what they are doing! Don't bother with them. The customer service on the phone was so unprofessional and unhelpful. Ahrens and Condill was the best HVAC company I ever used. Too bad they sold out! My opinion of this company is they are deceptive and dishonest. The technician, with a tablet in his hand, explained if I add $19.99 to the service call I would be enrolled in the Comfort Plan. He said that plan gives me 10% discount on any furure service work. I would also get one service call for the fall and one for the spring. It came accross as a promotion without any indicatin the $19.99 is a recurring charge every month. I did not receive any documents specifically stating the terms of the program. There was no indicatin on the invoice that I will be billed monthly. That means two "preventative" maintenence service calls, 6 months apart, actually cost $120.00 plus parts. and the parts: $40 for a furnace filter. Stay away from these people. read more

I want to join the chorus here on questioning the integrity and pricing of this company. Here's what happened to us and our thoughts, concerns and questions: after a routine service call, we got a proposal for a repair and called to review it with the estimator. The estimator explained a lengthy process was required and told us to plan for a two-hour time-in-home service call (to be clear, not the time frame for arrival). We got some sense of the retail cost of the part by researching and found the part was more costly than we might have imagined, added two hours of labor and some driving time in our heads and accepted the proposal. Fast forward to day of repair: the replacement part was installed in barely 30 minutes and behind a closed door. When I inquired as to what was done because the time spent bore no relation to what we understood was proposed, the installer became visibly annoyed with me. As any female consumer knows, this is especially uncomfortable. The installer said something to indicate that the job he did was "good enough." I calmly asked if the installer would want a professional who did a job "good enough" or one who did what is required to do the job right and well? No reply. I asked to speak to the estimator/dispatcher to ask about the pricing and service. That individual in turn said the installer was an expert and was so highly trained and skilled that he was faster than anyone else--a true expert. He also assured me we have a one year warranty on parts and service. We hope they are true to their word. Knowing this was a losing battle-- poor ethos rots to the core--I told the installer I would just pay. They made me sign approvals and so I told the installer I would sign as I felt I was compelled to despite not having full information. I stated to him that we could not really approve without further understanding. The installer explained upon leaving, that the company flat rate bills and admitted that to his eyes, this is often not fair to consumers. He looked vaguely uncomfortable in that moment to me. We did not ask and we do not know but we were left to wonder if they just overprice and/or if the job was done well. I note the installer was VERY early to our appointment--an experience we have rarely had with hvac companies. Out of a lack of confidence, I asked my building engineer about the time the installer took to do this job. Our engineer spent years as an HVAC professional, particularly on boilers. He said 30 minutes to do this repair is possible, but not reflective of care and concern. The building engineer checked out the unit, noted some lapses in service that concerned him more generally and then checked out the heat and concluded we were ok. I think our engineer was here longer than the installer. He is going to follow up on one overlooked detail in a few days and address another. We will not use them again either for seasonal service checks--AA purchased our old stalwart comoany only recently--and not for service. This is because we were left with a lack of confidence and a strong feeling of inappropriate advantage taken. read more

OVERPRICED AND SCAMMY PLUMBING. I received a quote over the phone for a $175 fee to inspect a couple of issues in my unit, one of the issues being low pressure in a shower. The technician, without giving me a heads up on costs once in the unit, wanted to charge me more than $500 for very minor work that did not resolve the water pressure issue. I talked him out of a $190 fee I was not notified of but still ended up having to pay $350 total. I then received a quote to fix low pressure in two showers for $1,496. I ended up going with another company that immediately diagnosed the issue over the phone and repaired the issue in one shower for $410. Avoid AA Service Co. at all costs. Plenty of better options out there. read more

AA Service Co. finalized the installation of a high velocity AC system in my home. Due to their error (improperly sloped condensate drain), within 18 months the system was ruined and I had water damage throughout my home. When informed of the situation and given multiple opportunities to correct, they refused to stand by their work. First they said the damage was due to condensation. I then sent documentation of four professional (architect, forensic engineer, and two other certified installers) inspectors who independently concluded that faulty installation was the cause. They then said they were not involved with the installation (Unique Comfort started the installed and was acquired by AA during installation). I provided documentation that AA Service was actually at my home on three separate dates to finalize and make the unit operational. Now they won't reply to my requests. It is evident they do not understand how this system works and will not stand by their work. read more

Absolutely disgraceful service. We used to have Tim come to service our multi zoned heating and cooling. Since he no longer makes house calls their service has gone down the toilet. They were supposed to be here for service today between 10am-1pm. It's now 1pm. No one has called me. Spoke with Violetta in service. She says Sam won't be here until at least 4pm. This is the third time we have experienced this sort of issue. Mind you we have spent over $20,000 with them replacing both upstairs and downstairs heating and cooling systems. Had to replace the geothermal heating system in our Antioch lake home, and needed to do it quickly as the outside temps at the time ranged from -10 to 30; as not many home HVAC companies have much experience with geothermal systems; not only did AA Service have geothermal experience, they were experts; worked with Bill, Michael, Alexis, Dave, and Phil at AA Service and they arranged to get the new equipment manufactured and installed quickly; project was substantial (2 x 5 ton geothermal heat exchangers, 2 air blowers, 4 loop pumps, 3 new WiFi thermostats; crew was professional and were careful not to damage any home surfaces while installing the equipment; they took the time to fully test the newly installed systems, explain what they were doing, how everything worked, and answer all my (many) questions; overall, the 5 star rating understates our experience working with AA Service; would give them more than 5 stars if we could read more

I couldn't be more pleased with their new plumbing department. The technician installed a new water heater, and went above and beyond to change out some parts that he felt would cause us trouble later, including some blocked pipes. I wish I could say the same about their boiler service. The man performed the basic services on our boiler on Oct. 12. We then went out of town for three weeks, and, upon returning, didn't need the heat as the weather was warm. Last night, I switched it on, could hear the fan but no heat came up. We called them today, and was told that it would be $110 for them to walk in the door, and more for any repairs. Apparently, they only guarantee their work for a week. I was pretty surprised that this was their attitude. Maybe I'm wrong, but it was my assumption that, after the marvelous care at the hands of their plumber, I expected the same from the boiler man. I had a horrible experience with this company. They pushed a very expensive AC unit on us that wasn't the right choice for our home due to our ductwork, and as a result we have very uncomfortable humidity levels in our home. The humidity level was fine with our old unit. I've since had three other companies come out to give us their opinion and all indicated the unit is not pulling enough humidity out of our house; one insisted that I fight to get them to make things right, however management was awful and I felt beaten down. I just couldn't handle anymore of the stress regarding the situation. AA refused to make things right and instead insisted that I didn't know what I was talking about. There isn't a corporate number or any upper management I could get a hold of. The installers were unprofessional. When they were done, there was a very loud rattling noise and they told me it was normal ... my dining room table was shaking. Not sure writing a review will help with future readers seeking a good contractor to service their home since I see a 5-STAR review pop up first on the YELP page......from Year 2016. Yes, I said FIRST. I gave 2 stars because they did show up on the day promised and within the 3-hour window timeframe that they committed to. My original HVAC service company was absorbed by this company, AA Service Co. I called them to set up a furnace service. My furnace is old but it was the Top of the Line in its day, so it has fared very well. I have always been a little more maintenance conscious than my neighbors. I knew from the last service visit (pre-pandemic) that, as long as I maintained it, I should get a few more years but nothing lasts forever. My original HVAC owner is still working there and is now a contact for the new AAService Co. I was thrilled that he offered to send his BEST Guy. I waited 2 weeks to get "The Best Guy" there. I will not mention the technician's name because I am not writing this review for you to judge the technician but rather the company that stated he was the best. Upon arrival, he made a few comments to which I took offense. I shared my dismay and he went downstairs to service the unit. He came back upstairs and started with, "It needs to be replaced 100%" and proceeded to prepare a $20,000 quote (that included the rebates). I am not sure my furnace didn't receive a heavy hand from this technician because I called him out on his attitude and rhetoric. I understand that everyone has to make a profit, but in 2019, the technician said, if it goes out, it's $7200 to replace the system (I still have a written quote). This was before the company was a part of AA Service Co. My advice is to skip right past this group. Get multiple quotes from local neighbor groups that have some history with your friends and neighbors. I think this group is geared toward, "it's too old and needs replacement" sales tactics. Had our boiler checked for the season just after AA bought our previous servicer. At the end of the visit, the AA tech suggested we add a Drain-O-Tank valve on our expansion tank at a cost of $637. We agreed thinking that this was a pretty extensive job. Two weeks later they replaced the existing drain sillcock with the new $59 drain valve in about 15 minutes. The tech did recheck the operation of the system but this seems incredibly pricey for what they had to do. Our previous company probably would not have charged more than $200. AA also try to push additional services on you at each visit. I think we will be looking for a new service. read more

They have been servicing my parents' HVAC systems for years. Always reliable and they send someone out asap in an emergency. The serviceman even pointed out an issue with a water heater that was incorrectly installed by a contractor while there checking the furnace. Their work was good. However, their HVAC estimate was $20,000 more than the next most expensive estimate. Their plumbing cost was also extravagant. At the time we were in dire circumstances after burst pipes and no heat or water so were desperate to get the work done. Their plumbing price was $12,000 more than insurance would pay. When our adjuster attempted to get them to justify their cost so that the insurance could pay for it, they couldn't (or wouldn't) do it. Be very careful with these guys. read more

My heater went out in the winter and it took them A MONTH to come out to install a $6000 unit. Now, with a brand new unit, the A/C is constantly running and doesn't cool like it should. Called the company multiple times but they are "too busy" to send someone out. I can't even schedule an appointment. After calling a few times, they told me someone would come out yesterday and no one showed up. We keep getting the run around. If you're that busy, perhaps hire more people to take care of your paying customers. Terrible customer service. read more

Excellent service from Tim B My air conditioning wasn't working and Tim quickly isolated the problems and had it working within an hour. Very hot and humid day today and Tim had to make multiple trips to the roof to fix the unit and add Freon. He was very pleasant, professional, and efficient . He wore shoe coverings, a mask a gloves. Our furnace stopped working in a cold morning in February. By the time I called AA Service it was already past 11am. The technician Mark showed up before 1pm. He followed the order of operations and quickly identified the root cause and made an immediate fix within 30 minutes after his arrival. He was very polite and also kindly explained to me how things work. The price was pretty reasonable and only the service call fee was charged because everything was done in 30 minutes. These guys have been great to work with. A couple years ago we purchased a plan where AA Service Co will come in the summer to check your air conditioning and in the fall to check your furnace. We got behind in our annual furnace check up, and these guys still honored our deal. We were extremely happy with our AC visit initially, and our furnace visit was just as easy peasy. It's the day after Thanksgiving, and our tech, Jim G. arrived promptly at 8am to get us up to date with our annual furnace maintenance check. Not only was he a super nice guy, but he was very honest and showed us our weakening capacitor and didn't push us to replace it on the spot when we declined. We want to check with our home warranty policy first. He let us know what's in store (any year now we are going to need a furnace replacement) and also educated us on furnace filters. We recently purchased a really pricey filter because we did some major basement cleaning, and it's already dirty. He said as long as the cardboard is strong around the outer edge, then we can purchase the cheaper 3-pack option. Future savings...check! Jim spoke our language. Regardless, we have a happy working furnace, AA honored their commitment (even though it was over a year later), and we learned a few tips and tricks. I would recommend this family-owned company in a heartbeat. If our home warranty includes them, we will continue to give them our future business. read more

Tommy S called and said he'd be at my home in 20 minutes, he arrived early. Tommy introduced himself, was friendly and knowagable. He showed concern for my home and started to work on the unit inside (air-conditioning). He proceeded to check and clean the exterior unit...checking later, I've never seen the unit so clean. I have been using AA Service for 6 years and I'm always very pleased. Today I'd rate Tommy S as exceptional. I'll continue to ask for Tommy in the future. read more

We were charged over $500 for a routine maintenance call on our a/c unit and for what their tech said was a needed diagnostic for a suspected leak. It took 10-15 minutes for the tech to tell us we needed a new coil. We were suspicious, had another company assess and found out we only needed more coolant. We tried to recoup part of the $504 but AA would not comply. Very unhappy, we feel grossly cheated. read more

Though I wasn't in a rush, AA sent someone out the same day. The guy answering incoming calls was probably the most friendly and customer service oriented guy I've ever spoken to. Jim S came over within 4 hours of my call to fix my AC that had gone out. Professional and knowledgeable. I felt like the problem was in good hands. The issue I had ended up being a "Motor Run Capacitor" that went bad. Jim quickly found this, had the part on his truck, and it took about 15 minutes to replace. The part can range between $5 - $15, so I was a little surprised with a $300 bill. At least they wave the initial $89 to come out then if they did any kind of work. I asked for a breakdown of the cost and was informed they go off of a sheet that provides a specific cost for a specific problem. A bit of researched turned up that $150-$200 would have been a lot more reasonable for this type of repair. On another note, their membership maintenance plan does sound like a decent value, which no doubt is a means to find more repairs. Would be nice if their pricing was more transparent or explained in more detail on their website. read more

Service was completed quickly on an a/c unit around 9 pm on a week night a few weeks ago in the midst of a major heat wave. Their fee explanation could be much clearer, both over the phone/prior to servicing the unit, and on the receipt. We did contact the business and request an itemized receipt, provided email to have them send out receipt, but have not gotten one yet. We are super glad to have our a/c working again, and it was really convenient to get help so late at night at such short notice, and the a/c unit is still plugging away. In the future, I'd use them again if they could provide an explanation for the fees for service and parts, instead of just giving a "lump sum" total for the service. read more

Love these guys! They installed a new air conditioner a few years ago and have been servicing it seasonally. Today's call--it's already September--was a bit late for the cooling season, but service tech Joseph R. serviced not only the a/c system, but also tuned up the furnace. He reconnected some loose wires for the humidifier; who knows when that happened but I was grateful that he spotted them. Joe wrapped things up by discussing the the results of his inspection. If you have no problem PAYING MORE than you should and dealing with ALL THE HASSLES, this is the company you should choose. Their technician did a decent job but my overall experience was terrible. Their employees care nothing about you; instead, they are trained to push you into making a decision under pressure in their favor, and there were NO communication between their office and their technicians, making you pay more and get less. Note: The story is too long so I put the full story in the attached photos. I'm going to fix this when I have time. Here's the story. We called on a Thursday morning to request a diagnosis and potential repair of HVAC due to its fan noise. Confirmed on the phone that they do FREE estimates (like many companies do, unless they are playing with words). Waited for a full day, and the technician, Andy, didn't arrive until 5pm. Andy quickly diagnosed the obvious fan problem and said the inducer motor would be dying soon (even that night) and needed immediate replacement. Cost estimate was $891 but a 50% advance deposit was required before ordering the part. A quick google search told me that $900 would be a very high cost both for the part and the labor. So we requested if there was a breakdown of part and labor and were told it was just a flat fee - i.e., no breakdown, but he could include cleaning/maintenance in this package (he wouldn't have said that if we hadn't asked). We further asked if it there were any other cost-efficient ways (e.g. like a repair) and were told there was nothing else they could do. He also urged us to make the decision ASAP! Since $900 was not a small amount of money, and Andy said he had other work to do and had to leave, we asked if we could call him later that night if we decided to order the replacement. Andy said their office was closed after 5pm (not our fault because he came late!) so we wouldn't be able to call later that night to make the order. Besides we would owe ~$89 for his trip if we couldn't decide immediately whether to order the part, with the problem unsolved. Why is it called a FREE estimate if they charge you for the trip? Is it fun to play with words? What's worse, when we asked if we could pay the $89 first and have that deducted from their next trip if we decided to order the replacement through them later THAT NIGHT, in which case they would lose nothing but we would have at least one option, he said no. Andy even "reminded" (threatened) us that there would be a winter storm on Friday (the next day), and if we didn't make the decision immediately, he couldn't guarantee that it would be replaced on Friday and we might end up with no heat throughout the weekend. Under a lot of pressure, with their 5 star review on yelp (about which I now suspect that they pay people to get negative reviews removed), with their promise to get the fan replaced the next day even with severe weather, and with maintenance included, we paid more than a 50% deposit. Along with a $126 replacement cost of a humidifier tube (also expensive), the total was $1017, so we paid $509, and the balance was $508. After we paid it, Andy oiled the fan and left, saying it would hopefully work until the next morning. Out of curiosity I googled again to see what should be done if the fan started to make noise (which I would have done before calling them if I hadn't been so busy that day). The FIRST result from google told me to oil the fan (like what Andy did AFTER charging us). Google also told us that the noise level we heard from the fan was OK after oiling, and it might keep working for a while - definitely not that its death was imminent! So the lesson we learnt, besides googling before making a service call, was NEVER to trust that they would do a FREE estimate, and never to trust that they wouldn't overcharge you or insist you need something expensive. If they had told us their estimate wasn't free, we would probably try to fix it ourselves first. And if it had been indeed a free estimate like many companies offered, we might have wanted to wait until the fan was indeed dying before replacing it, and we probably would have called them again. Or even if we had had a chance to think twice about it, we would have definitely paid the $89 for their trip and labor in order to avoid the immediate replacement. I believe Andy knew this, which was exactly why he pressured us SO HARD to pay a deposit. And because they knew they were overcharging so they were afraid of us calling around (which we wouldn't do unless they pissed us off). The next day, I asked for a vacation day from work and waited at home for their repair. Then we received a call from Darcy, someone from their office, asking if we wanted to order the parts (with a different quote). Of course! It should have been done yesterday!
