Manager was extremely rude. Requested that they do 3 runs on their Sparks skate sharpener which is what I normally do at home. They refused and were condescending towards me. Manager also implied that he owned the store. Have been to several different Pure Hockey locations and have never encountered this type of service. My son recently started hockey, so we had to get him all the gear he needed (and then some)! We stopped by this location of Pure Hockey and were happy with our shopping experience. We have been here a few times now and every time we had a good shopping experience here. Someone has always helped us recommend the right products for us and my son was able to try on everything before we made the purchase. They made the shopping experience really easy and a pleasure! The store is well laid out with everything in easy to find sections! Prices are good too and comparable to Amazon or other online retailers. There is ample Parking in the shopping mall which makes it easy to get in and out. Location on Rockville Pike is convenient too. We will definitely come here before we go to Amazon! read more

This place is awesome. I bought a brand new pair of hockey skates from them. One of the young guys that works the floor was very attentive and knowledgeable. He scanned my feet and put me in a perfect pair of hockey skates. They are also one, if not the only, places in the DMV that profiles hockey skate blades. I went from a 9ft to a 10ft and it was done flawlessly. These guys know what they're talking about. Pure Hockey's member rewards is pretty cool too. These guys are great! Came in to return skates the Sterling location gave me due to pain and a semi-bad experience. But Dan and his crew know what's up. Got refitted and told my options due to some super wide feet. Ended up helping me out so much were never going to another shop. This is without a doubt the best hockey store that I've seen in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. I'm a fan of TotalHockey online and HokeyMonkey online primarily because most local hockey stores are in local rinks and don't have much inventory, especially for adults. Reston does okay. The guys in Kettler know what they're talking about and back up their gear and do quality sharpenings, neither stocks much. The benchmark-for me-though for a hockey store isn't the pro-shop at Kettler in Arlington, its Hockey Pro Life near Toronto, Canada. This place is kind of like a Best Buy sized store full of hockey gear. A friend told me that the Rockville Total Hockey was like HPL, and well, its not... its not even close. THAT ASIDE. Its clean, there's ample parking, there IS a wide selection of brands to include Bauer, Easton, Warrior and other brands. There's a selection of shoulder pads, knee pads, skates, helmets. BUT I didn't see much of the higher end Bauer at least. I was looking for Bauer Totalone Shoulders... didn't see it. Saw a bunch of their less expensive stuff. Maybe they were out of stock on that, maybe they were in the back. I don't know. There's also NHL jerseys (mostly but not exclusively CAPS), kids' hockey (street and indoor don't break the furniture stuff) and hockey themed clothing from Gong Show, Sauce, and other brands. They do skate sharpening on site and there was no line when I went there mid-day on a Saturday. I didn't get my skates sharpened so I can't speak to whether they'll mess yours up. Lines form rather quickly for check-out, some folks have questions about their stuff that they ask at check-out. Perhaps some more floor advisors would stop that from happening. One such person DID answer some questions I had about face-masks and didn't try to force something on me I didn't want - he mentioned that a new one was coming out soon. Not the best for sales, but really good for building a long-term customer base. My advice: call first if you're looking for something specific or need something (like a stick) NOW, and you're more likely to find it there than any other store in the area. Give it a shot. However this is not going to replace online shopping for bigger ticket items very many people. read more

This review would actually be more like 4.5 stars if YELP had that option haha anyways here we go: I came to this store because I just recently got back into ice skating and eventually want to get back into playing hockey after being away in the military for 6 years. I wasn't looking for the best of the best skates that the pros would wear, but also wasn't looking for the bottom of the barrel because I definitely need comfortable skates with ample support. This place has Very friendly and helpful staff. Meg is incredibly nice, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. I brought a pair of skates I ordered online from them into the store for an initial fitting and what not. They did a digital size measurement in-store, and we discovered that I ordered skates that were about a size too large. So I tried about 5 other pairs of skates on and discovered ones that I loved. The fit was great, weren't too stiff or too unsupportive (there are some skates out there that feel like torture devices and provide ZERO support so beware!)The only issue I had was that they didn't have a large selection of skates in the actual store. It seemed like the sizes that I needed were always out of stock (8.5 regular width) so I either had to try on sizes that were too big/small in the actual skate I wanted to try to gauge the feel OR I had to try on the right size in different skates (ones that didn't feel as comfortable). Once I decided on CCM skates that I loved, I was able to easily exchange the skates I bought online for the pair I really wanted. The price wasn't too outrageous considering some of the best skates can sell for more than $1,000!!! Meg did the whole transaction and told me that the skates I ordered would be arriving in about 2-4 business days. At that point I'll be coming back to have my skates heat molded for a custom fit, and also have them sharpened for the first time. The heat mold them for free which is awesome and the sharpening is only like $7 or $9 (can't remember). I called the Capitals practice rink and they charge around $50 for the same services (robbery). Either way, I'd definitely recommend checking this place out for any and all hockey needs regardless of prior knowledge. I came here knowing virtually nothing about the skates I wanted and how to properly fit them and they were more than willing and capable to answer all of my dozens of questions. Check this place out, huge selection and great staff. Just be understanding that they may have to order the proper size or model of skates that you fall in love with. read more

We have been shopping at Pure Hockey for several years now, seeing as how we have two hockey players on the ice. This store has everything you might need to play hockey, from skates, to pads, to clips and tape. The staff have always been fully knowledgeable and most helpful in selecting new gear for the kids. They take extra care to ensure that skates are a perfect fit for our growing teens and can order extra large or wide sizes if warranted. We don't shop anywhere else. read more

This is the review I submitted on their store website... " When I first entered the store, there were about 5 or 6 people working. I actually had to make first contact going into the store to ask for help, which isn't really a big deal but I shouldn't have to feel like I'm at Target hunting down someone who has a red shirt on just to get some answers just to find no one or ask the wrong person for help. Second, the guy that actually wound up helping me was awesome. He helped me pick out about $500 worth of gear that I needed and stuck to my budget helping me find quality stuff that fit and that met my needs. So that part was great. Second, the experience of getting my boots fitted was great. Third and final act of this excursion was this... I travelled over an hour to get to this store, not that anyone knows that but you really are the only hockey store in maryland that's worth anything. So the following rehash of my experience pains me to even go through. I got up to the counter to pay for all of my stuff while my boots were supposed to be pushed out to relieve some pressure and then subsequently sharpened. I get up there and the guy tells me that he won't ring me up because I am getting my skates sharpened. Has me step aside and proceeds to ring up the guy behind me instead. They talk for a quick second and I just stand there dumbfounded that he wouldn't take a priority of a new customer buying about $500 worth of merchandise and instead rings up someone he seems to know for a minimal charge. It would have been ok if he had been polite about it, but he basically just blew me off and had me step aside like my time meant nothing to him. On top of that, after standing there dumbfounded he proceeds to ask me where my stuff is after already having told him twice that its on the counter next to him in a huge giant pile. From that point, he starts ringing me up and never spoke a word to me. Barely even looked at me. My girlfriend discussed something with him about the Total Hockey rewards card and that was the only interaction we had. Throughout the entire process even the rewards stuff he barely paid attention to us. Just rung us up while talking to his friend/coworker about something non-work related and fielding phone calls from his friends during the entire process. We started to complain to him and he just paused his phone conversation and we just said nevermind you're on the phone don't worry about it...you obviously have more important things to do. On our way out he finally hung up the phone and actually acted mildly concerned and wanted to know if we wanted to talk about something. We just said no, you are obviously way too busy and we walked out. I normally wouldn't complain, but this was way over the top. It was rude, unprofessional, and downright just childish. I have stricter standards after having been in the military and being deployed and expectations of professionalism may be a bit different compared to most places. I hope that your company does not hold this as a standard behavior or expectation of behavior for all of their employees. We learn a lot about commitment to duty and service to those around us, so this was just a glaring example of unprofessionalism in my eyes. Please advise on whether this is standard behavior on part of your employees, otherwise, I would appreciate some form of apology or statement. I don't wish for anyone to get fired, but this type of behavior is unacceptable. It shouldn't matter if I'm buying $5 or $500, but the fact that I was a new customer and was buying a large amount of gear was just an example of how this cashier probably won't even find an ounce of professionalism or customer worth for someone who buys $1 worth of merchandise. I feel slighted in the experience honestly and it made me wish that you weren't my only option as a hockey store in the area. However from this point on, if I do need anything, I will probably stick to online shopping or alternative methods. Thanks for your time. " read more

We live in Howard County, MD and purchase most of our hockey equipment in Laurel, MD at East Coast Hockey, the pro shop at The Gardens Ice House, or in Ellicott City at Play It Again Sports. My son, a goalie, needed new skates so wanted to try Pure Hockey so he'd have lots of choices and be able to try on different sizes before purchasing. The Rockville, MD store didn't have any goalie equipment so told him to drive to Sterling, VA. East Coast Hockey in Laurel, MD has the skates he's looking for plus a few other styles to try on. Definitely more merchandise than in stores at local hockey rings. Sharpen the skates fast and almost never a line for that. Their Platinum membership is a very good deal and includes free sharpening on Tue and Wedn. 2 stars because TWICE now we came to the store at opening time, and it was closed. The first time after waiting about 15 min a guy showed up and told us that he had no key, and we needed to wait fro someone with the key. After about 10 more minutes the store opened. Today we went to the store since it was an emergency for us - my son's helmet strap broke and he needs a helmet for a game tomorrow. Decided to come early to beat a snowstorm. Came at 9 to the locked door, sat waiting in the car until 9:20 and left. Not going back unless it is a real emergency, and definitely not at opening time. read more
