This is the best LBS in MoCo. I've been using this bike shop for the past 8 years and each time Travis goes above and beyond to provide great professional service. I've had three sets of wheels laced by Travis and they all are still straight and true through years of cross and crit racing. I recently dropped a set of hoops and hubs off with JRABS and they were laced in three hours. I picked them up same-day. I'm a bike racer and I do nearly all my own bike builds and maintenance but I always go to JRABS for the stuff that needs expert skill. Brought my Trek mountain bike here because it is so close to my house. My chain was slipping so they recommended an over haul over the rear sprockets and new chain. It wasn't cheap but it is in line with what I have paid at other bike stores. After a couple rides, the chain was still slipping. I brought the bike back in. They recommended a new rear sprocket. I felt that after spending so much on the overhaul, we should have just replaced the rear sprocket in the first place. The manager agreed and replaced the rear sprocket at no extra charge. They now have a customer for life because of their ability to correct a situation. read more

Great shop! Although, I didn't have a great personal experience... But here's why. Not their fault. I originally ordered a Black/Celeste Bianchi Pista from them. They had to order it from Bianchi directly. The bike came in sooner than expected. Mind you, I live in Ashburn, VA, and had to take a trip out to Olnie/Laytonsville early morning on a weekday which is about an hours away with no traffic. I'm excited to pick up my bike, but when I get there, it's the wrong color. A classic black/red version of the Pista. It was Bianchi's fault since they discontinued the black/celeste colorway and didn't update their website. When I told Andy that it was the wrong bike, he immediately called the manager, Travis. Travis offered the current black/red bike for $100 less or said I could wait while they order the correct color. I opted for the correct color. I also needed a new brake cable for a different bike, and he just handed it to me free of charge. A few hours later, I get a call from Andy saying the colorway has been discontinued and a chrome version as well as a different style bike, but similar, will be available mid to late October. I opted for the chrome. A couple weeks later, I found a deal on a used bike and e-mailed to cancel the order. No issues there at all. TLDR; Ordered bike. Wrong bike received. Offered $100 less for bike, or wait for original bike. Mixup is Bianchi's fault. Great, great, great, customer service. Communicated well throughout the process. Highly recommend. read more

I had been in the market for a new road bike for months and have shopped at JRABS for small items a few times. Over several visits for small items, I struck up a conversation with the guys about what I was looking for. After narrowing my options to two, I opted with the brand that they sell just because it was clear that Travis and John know what they are talking about, care and provide outstanding levels of service. When I decided to get a Bianchi, I went in and Travis spent over an hour with me taking measurements and testing the limits of my flexibility in a fitting for my new bike (which is included in the price of the new bike). Once the fitting was complete, I waited a few days for the bike to built, went back in and did an on-bike fitting and adjustment. This took about 45 minutes, was very thorough and informative. Since the new bike has internal cable routing, they had to rely on me to do the cable stretching and instructed me to bring it back in after the first ride and so I did andTravis quickly and efficiently adjusted the headset and derailleurs. I highly recommend doing all of your cycling business with JRABS. They also participate in Perkville which is a loyalty program that gives you back about 7% of what you spend. But that was just icing on the cake for me. The real draw to me is the competence and the service levels. read more

I could go on and on about how wonderful it is that Travis gives his time so generously for 4 days to support wounded Vets, but since this is about the shop, I'll tell you that the quality of bike repairs, the customer service, and the responsiveness is what keeps us coming back. This is a serious bike shop. High end stuff but no pretentious attitude that often accompanies shops that center around bikes which start at 5K. On my seriously mid-level bike, they patched me up and got me going in the right direction when i got stranded (20 miles) from home. And since it was only a patch it up repair (seat post) they refused to take any money for about 40 minutes of work. They are a little far for me to use on a regular basis, but if I am ever in trouble north county I will peddle over. These are people who care. read more

I stopped by JRABs last week to pick up some accessories I ordered, and saw Travis working on preparation for a new Bianchi Volpe that I ordered (the third Bianchi I have purchased from JRABS). Travis was working on facing and reaming the head tube, and I chatted with him as he worked about why this kind of procedure is necessary to prepare the bike for delivery. As Travis explained, the head tube is not always precisely round in the interior, and the face of the tube is not always precisely flat. If the head tube is not prepared in this way, the bearings that enable the front fork to move back and forth will wear unevenly. This uneven wear will eventually cause bearing failure. By doing this kind of preparation (reaming the head tube is just one step in a process that typically takes these pros three hours to do), the life of the bike is greatly extended. If you buy a bike from one of the Big Box retailers, or from a large bike chain, the preparation is really nothing more than assembly of the bike, which takes about 30-45 minutes. With the prep you get at JRABS, you will be able to depend on your bike for many years. Is the initial cost of the bike more that what you would pay at a large retailer? Yes, but not much more, and the value vastly exceeds the value from a large retailer. Not to put too fine a point on it, but if you ride your bike a lot, your life may literally depend on its proper operation. The pros at JRABS will ensure that you get thorough, professional preparation, and you will be able to ride your bike with confidence! I would recommend JRABS to anyone who is contemplating a bike purchase! read more

Having heard good things about this shop and decided to go in for a bike fit. On a former fit with a different bike, one of the chain stores charged me $200. Travis charged me $60. He didn't have lasers like the other stores, just a protractor and a plum line. It all worked and even further he gave me some great riding tips to increase power to the pedals. I've been going to JRABS now for several years during which I have bought several bikes. I also go to JRABS for all the necessary tune ups and repair work. Laytonsville isn't close to me and there are several bike shops immediately around me but I will only go to JRABS because I know that I will receive consistently good and honest service. I am not mechanically inclined at all and so knowing that Travis (the owner) is looking out for me gives me peace of mind. Ever since I started having tune ups done at JRABS my bikes have been running better and I can be assured that all the components of the bike have been checked. I haven't once been stranded on the road with a broken cable or other mechanical issue and I ride 5000+ miles each year. With JRABS you will feel that you are getting Travis' personal attention. It's unlikely that you can say that about the large bike shops! In fact you would be lucky to get any attention at all. read more

Not long after I moved here from Oregon 2 years ago, my new found friend and realtor invited me to ride with him. We meet in Laytonsville to begin our rides. He introduced me to Just Riding Along Bicycle Shop (JRABS). It didn't look like much, but one of the things I noticed were the type of bikes people were bring to JRABS. They were serious bikes, as in the thousands of dollars. I have a Trek Madone 6.5 which I had taken to a couple of bike shops since moving here, and every time I would have to take it back to have them make more adjustments trying to get it right, and although better, it was never really right. Then to add insult to injury my bike was handed back to me dirtier than when I gave it to them. JRABS was not the most convient for me, but that was a small price to pay for the GREAT work they did and to see the professionalism and knowledge they have. When I got my bike back the first thing I did was to take it for a test ride and run it through the gears, and it was like getting back a new bike. There were some issues that I knew that I had and didn't mention just to see if they would catch them, and they did. With all my dealings with them I have never felt like they were pressuring me or over selling me on anything. As to their character, I could tell that JRABS was special. This might seem like a small thing, but during the riding season JRABS has a portapotty in one corner of the parking lot that is very clean for the riders that park their cars there to begin their rides can use. It may seem small but it is just another aspect of JRABS that speaks volumes to who these people are. What also caught me off guard was their website. I had no idea they had so much on their website. Another thing I like about JRABS are their hours of operation. Monday - Friday they open up at 0800 which works great for me and my hours. I would say stop by and check them out and just try them.
