Pure Kitchen is absolutely amazing! We wandered in close to closing time and were seated immediately, despite the crowd. Our server was so nice and cheerful, filled with recommendations for possible dishes to try. Finally, we decided on the Belle (Poutine), the Radical (Cauliflower Wings Buffalo Style), and the Passion Burger. The Poutine was delicious, and was easily the table favorite. Both the wings and the burger were great as well, and the daily soup it came with was a great addition to the feast. Definitely worth another visit if we are in the area again :) read more

Let me start off by saying I am a lean mean meat-eating machine. Definitely a carnivore and at most times an omnivore. Coming here was definitely an experience. When going out, i usually look for the first thing on the menu that has the meat that I want to eat. I couldn't do that here. What it lacked in meat, Pure Kitchen made up in decor (it was so super hipster in here my god, I've never seen so much flannel in one place) and flavour. I ordered the mushroom poutine (playing it safe) and it was one of the best dishes I had ever tasted. With sliced pieces of mushroom that had been properly sauteed and just drenched in a delicious gravy sauce with fresh squeaky cheese curds and crispy fries, I was definitely in love. The next dish I got was a mango chutney chickpea dish with slices of garlic naan. Great, very flavourful - but spicy. More spicy than I actually expected. But it was delicious. It usually comes with rice - but if you ask them nicely, they can give you glass noodles instead, which is even better. Seriously, much better with the noodles. All in all, great experience, the food was good but I feel like it is a bit pricy for what it is - especially because vegetables are cheaper than meat. read more

Amazing restaurant in general. The service is amazing, the atmosphere is so warm, all of the servers were smiling, everything was clean, and the food was incredible! This restaurant not only is amazing for a vegetarian restaurant, it beats a lot of other restaurants that i've visited. The price is also reasonable, as all of their dishes are packed with flavour. I got the radical cauliflower dish in both flavours, and my friend ordered the Harmony Burger. We also ordered smoothies, and they were also really flavourful and balanced. I'm so disappointed! I have been going to Pure Kitchen since it opened a year or so ago and have never had a bad experience. I went again hoping to get my favourite BLT and quinoa onion rings and they were completely off the menu. Not only that, but all the prices had gone up. I asked the reason for the change and they said it was a seasonal change do to the availability of the ingredients. I mean come on. You have the same ingredients in a lot of other dishes. I then asked if they would prepare it anyway and they said no, which is fair...I mean a girl's gotta try right! Anyway, I got the walnut burger, but strange enough in the list of ingredients it says "choose cheese" and one would assume that would come at no extra cost, but that would be incorrect and I paid 20 dollars for some kale, a burger and some fries I could have made at home. I also really disliked the berry tarte, it just was not very good. I don't know why this keeps happening to restaurants in this area. They start out amazing and somehow become average and way overpriced. read more

We called ahead to find out the best time to come in (three of us, each with a baby). We wanted to bypass the lunch rush if possible, and be seated in a spot that would be less obstructive to the staff and other patrons. The girl on the phone was very helpful and we settled on 11am, which was perfect - by the time the lunch rush was hitting we were mostly done our meals. The staff were great and very accommodating, we are well aware of the hassle young kids can be for restaurants so we really appreciated that they didn't make us feel like a nuisance. The food was excellent as usual (we always get the Korean BBQ cauliflower wings as a starter, try them!). Highchairs were provided and clean, but be aware that there isn't a change table in the washroom (upstairs). It's a small space though so I honestly don't know where they could even fit one, so not their fault! We will be back, we love Pure Kitchen! read more

I cannot believe it slipped my mind to give this place a review because they definitely deserve it! We decided to go here over lunch for a coworkers birthday and all of us were quite happy we did. I ordered the buffalo cauliflower wrap which was super tasty, full of flavor and definitely filling. On the side I decided to go for the vegan poutine with cashew cheese and mushroom gravy and it was sooo good. I will probably order exactly the same thing the next time I go, because I am a creature of habit but also because it was that good. Next time I really want to try the cauliflower wings because several people in the packed restaurant were ordering them and they looked delicious. Pure Kitchen Westboro has been one of our favourite restaurants in Ottawa for a few years now. They are a vegetarian establishment (dairy and eggs appear in some of their offerings, but many are, or can be, fully vegan). A lot of their dishes are interesting and original --- and delicious (and quite filling). It takes a lot of original thinking to replace meat in many dishes, but they manage this very well. One of my absolute favourites, and which I order every time we eat there, is the radical cauliflower wings (disclosure: I love cauliflower). This is absolutely delicious: the cauliflower is not too hard, but still crunchy and the sauce-mixture with sesame and scallions really is satisfying. Another regular favourite dish are the burgers, with the patty made from a mix of mushrooms and walnuts. The texture here is very similar to ground-beef. As a side, you can have a filling kale salad. I haven't eaten their poutine in a few months, but from what I can rememeber is also super-tasty (smokey-mushroom sauce). And the fresh veggie/fruit juices are also great. The service has regularly been attentive and in the summer, it is possible to eat on a patio. Overall, I highly recommend trying this restaurant!! read more

I will start off by saying that I am NOT a vegetarian - however if I could eat here every day, I definitely could be! Came here for lunch yesterday and was very pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere here is very simple, it's the food that will blow you away! We shared a platter of cauliflower wings - my first time having these, and I'm addicted! For lunch I ordered the bountiful salad - I believe it has spinach, strawberry vinaigrette, strawberries, pomegranate, pecans and goat cheese. While walking around Westboro on a Saturday afternoon, hunger griped us as we literally beside Pure Kitchen. As it was early, the place was pretty dead and thinking it was more of a juice bar than a restaurant, we almost kept walking. However, a quick check on Yelp showed lots of good reviews and actual menu items so we decided to try it out. I have to say I'm glad we did. FOOD - TASTY AND FILLING Admittedly, I'm not much for vegetarian cuisine but I have to say, if I could make dishes like this myself, I'd probably convert. We started with the 'carefree' tacos which, while small, were quite filling and tasty. For my main, I went with their 'mystical' bowl which was equally tasty and filling. The missus had the 'glorious' bowl which I also tried and it tasted good as well. I did try one of their juices and while I don't remember which one I had (it had maple syrup in it I think), I was not a fan as it was much too tart. LAYOUT/STYLE - CLEAN Almost everything in Pure Kitchen is white. While 'clean' looking, it could probably do with a bit more style but it suits their branding. They have a patio on the top of the restaurant which seems to be the popular choice in the summer months (understandably). SERVICE - GOOD I can't say we had anything to complain about with the service as it was friendly and attentive. VALUE - NOT BAD This is a bit of a tough call. The mains seem pretty fairly priced for the quantity of food you get. The juices are maybe a bit pricey and things like a $3 add on for half a grilled avocado on your main dish, probably not so much. OTHER - PARKING Parking in Westboro can be a bit of a pain as it has become a trendy spot. On the plus side, if you are willing to walk a couple of blocks, you should be able to find something pretty easily, especially east of Churchill. OTHER CHOICES? As I'm not up on all the vegetarian places in Ottawa, the only other one I know of close by would be The Table on Holland and Wellington (about five minutes down the road as Richmond becomes Wellington after Island Park drive). --- So, would I go back? Most definitely. I admit if they had an affordable lunch special (I don't know if they do but I didn't see anything on their menu) at around the $10 range, I'd probably stop by more than I should. read more

Found another vegan gem! What a great vibe this place has! Very welcoming, and the design of the restaurant is down to earth, clean, and minimal. It suits the whole new generation gentrified feel of Westboro. They have seating for the restaurant on the left side of the building and on the right is the smoothie bar (?) with more "to-go" seating. Upstairs is a lovely patio. I'm glad I got to sit there. If you're there during the warmer months, I HIGHLY recommend requesting a seat up there. It's like a little hidden garden away from the business of the streets. There's plants everywhere, and heaters too for the chillier days. The menu is not huge, but I loved it. I ordered the peaceful wrap which came with a heaping amount of fries and salad on the side. All the items on the menu had such cute names! The food was great and definitely filling. They gave you a lot, which is good for vegan foods. Also I'm not sure if everything on the menu was vegan but I think most were? I think they offered a lot of substitutions. The pricing was fair in my opinion. We went to Pure Kitchen for a birthday party, and we had a very mixed experience. The restaurant itself is nice - clean (stark, even), though every inch of floor space is used - though our table wasn't ready for our reservation time. As an apology, the staff tucked us to the side so we were somewhat out of the way (hard to do, as the restaurant has no spare geography) and we got to same some of the juices in shot-glasses - they were quite good. Once we were at our table, we were given a complimentary starter dish of the Cauliflower Wings - they were delicious - and we placed our orders. It started to go a bit wrong at the drinks - I'm not sure why someone would take a decent beer and then add in that much grapefruit juice, but something in the mix ratio was off. No one who ordered it wanted to finish it. Two different sangrias were ordered as well, shared out among many - and one of them was made with beets, which was basically so overpowering it was just beet juice. That said, the other flavour of sangria was good, and those of us lucky enough to have ordered just a beer (without grapefruit) had decent drinks. The starters put us back on course - the dumplings were good, the onion rings were excellent (and the aforementioned cauliflower dish was lovely). We were in good spirits once our group ordered a different set of drinks. Then the main course arrived, and things downturned again. The only thing 'Amazing' about the Amazing Burger was that someone called it a burger - it was more like a mushroom sloppy joe - there was zero consistency to the "patty" so he moment it was picked up it just fell apart through the bun and onto the plate. The two-dollar extra cheese it was suggested I should add to the burger was perhaps an inch-and-a-half square slice that was stuck to the bun (which no longer had any "patty" attached to it). The overall taste of the burger was pretty much "wet mushroom." The garden side-salad was bitter. I basically ate my fries and a few fork scoops of wet mushroom. Different members of my group ordered the different options for the burgers and salads, and none of us finished. Those who ordered bowls were happier - though even their response was "this is okay." The only person who really enjoyed their main dish ordered a wrap version of the cauliflower starter dish we all agreed was the highlight of the meal. The service was great (beyond the delay) and the server we had was lovely and engaging and really upbeat about the menu options and suggesting dishes for us. If I ever do go back (which isn't likely), I'll stick to ordering appetizers, and I'll definitely skip on adding grapefruit or cheese to anything. read more

Finally got around to visiting this place and seeing what all of the fuss is about, I certainly was not disappointed. Although there was a mix up with the reservation when I arrived, this was quickly seems to and a table was found for our group of three. We ordered the shiitake dumplings, the cauliflower "wings" and for my main I ordered the hot bowl with peanut sauce, rice noodles and kale. Wow! I have to say that everything was pretty tasty, the dumplings however I would take a pass on as they left much to be desired. They looked beautiful, but I thought not the sauce they were served with was not quite right, too sour for the pairing and the dumplings themselves were a little flavourless and "doughy" in the middle. The wings were a nice treat and I did enjoy them. My bowl was sheer perfection and I am pretty sure I dreamt of the thing. The peanut sauce was definitely "peanutty" but not overpowering which was lovely. I honestly loved it so much I would have trouble picking something new during my next visit. My girlfriend did order the chocolate cake, and it's definitely off the beat and track. The icing is not traditional icing and has a bit of a pasty consistency. Personally, I did not enjoy it, but this does come down to personal taste. I did however, really enjoy the peanut butter cup, I would say it has a 70-30 chocolate to peanut butter ratio (just in case you were wondering). I will be back! read more

Amazing in many ways. Food, ambiance, and service all extremely good. Been here several times. One of those places that I want to have tried every item on the menu. Food is very good, especially for their reasonable prices and great taste. For newcomers, I'll vouch for the poutine done vegan (they do many of their vegetarian items vegan as well). Their bowls are great, but I would definitely recommend the burgers if unsure. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. They'll answer questions you have about the food. Very light and airy during the day, great ambiance. And they dim it down for dinner to make it more formal. Couple of drawbacks, all stemming from how popular this place is. It's hard to find parking at busy times, but that's true for almost anything in Westboro. Once for dinner, we were told we could have a table in 10 minutes and so our server suggested we have a drink at the bar while we wait. We got the drinks, but there was no place to really stand and wait, let alone sit. The seating area is a little cramped, which I don't mind, but can seem like you're jumping over others when moving around. Regardless, I couldn't recommend Pure Kitchen more. What a cute spot! No pretentious vegans here :p we got here at 2pm on a Wednesday and it was super busy. They said it would be about half hour wait and it wasn't much longer than 10. I got a green juice (flush) and it was so delicious. We actually had to wait a while for our food (it was busy) but we were rewarded with samples of all the juices. Our servers were super cute and friendly (Laura the bartender is awesome!).. But the food! So great. I got a BLT with kale Caesar and fries.. I wasn't that hungry and only at half of the sandwich. Fries are really good. Other meals ordered: courageous wrap with goat cheese, dumpling appetizer (sooo good). No complaints. I wasn't crazy about the tempeh bacon but that's just me. Just hit the location on Elgin for Sunday brunch. The Korean Cauliflower Wings are a must try appetizer. For an entree, I had the Green Curry Rice bowl. Amazing blend of fresh vegetables and a killer broth. Pure Kitchen gets the little things right. The grilled tofu that accompanied the bowl had a transformative charred flavor. I suggest adding kimchi to your bowl. The prices are also reasonable at Pure Kitchen, but more importantly the portions were big. I took home half my entree. I try to eat vegan, but I would call myself a vegetarian still as that's what I've been for four years. This is the first vegetarian/vegan restaurant I've been to and it set the bar really high. It felt so great to be able to order anything off of the menu, whereas normally there are only a couple vegetarian-friendly things, if that. When you get to your table, the server gives you your own little pitcher of water. For a drink I tried the matcha latte and had it iced. It didn't have any added sugar which was really refreshing, but if you want some you'll just have to ask. I wasn't sure whether or not the milk was cow's milk or non-dairy but it didn't make me sick (lactose and I are not friends), so I would definitely ask next time. There were so many things to choose from it was so hard to decide, but when the waitress gave us the special, I was sold. It was a veggie burger with grilled avocado. It is the best veggie burger I've had to date, and I've tried a lot of veggie burgers from a lot of different places. For those of you who are gluten-free you can get a bun that's sans gluten. For the side you have a choice between fries, salad, or a little of both. I chose fries, although I should have tried both so I could report back on it. The fries were excellent though. Some of the best I've had. And for dessert I had the special that was chocolate cake. It was possibly the best cake I've ever had, and my mom makes a mean cake. I will definitely go back there, it was such a great experience to be around a bunch of people with the same sort of mindset, and the waitress was so friendly and inviting. I am thankful for the girlfriend date which is how I landed at Pure Kitchen, Westboro's famous vegetarian dining spot. My friend Chantal and I went on a Thursday night and even at 7pm, there was a line of eager diners waiting for a table. It seemed it was the only restaurant with a waiting list in the vicinity (well, no other spots had people waiting outside for a table). I think that alone says it all... The restaurant has an organic feel to it: comfortable, bright and inviting. It took us a long time to read through the menu and an even longer time to make a decision! Everything sounded so good! And because nearly every dish was completely different than your average restaurant, we wanted to try it all! Our stomachs on the other hand, couldn't handle that much food LOL! To start, we settled for a shared appetizer of mushroom dumplings. And just as the menu name suggested it, these were DIVINE! My only complaint was the serving of 5 dumplings when you are trying to share... An even number would be much better and deter any customer from engaging in food hogging wars!!! These dumplings were full of deliciousness. Can you spell C.R.A.V.I.N.G.S??? For our mains, we each opted for a sandwich. My friend selected the HAPPY burger with fries and I chose the LIBERTY wrap with both salad and fries (for a small supplement). We did not share a bite of each other's meal as I find sandwiches are not sharing friendly. I think we were both thrilled with our choices. Her burger, a smoky walnut and mushroom patty with coconut bacon and a bunch of other yummy stuff was devoured entirely! As for me, I loved the Buffalo style deep fried cauliflower wrap. It had the right amount of everything in it including an amazing garlic aioli. I loved the meatiness and crunchy feel of the cauliflower, it was very satisfying. I seldom finish my meals in a restaurant but other than a few stray French fries left behind, we cleaned our plates and smacked our lips with pure contentment. Side note about the fries: I have expressed my undying love of fries before. I refer to them as my kryptonite! Nothing insults me more than a helping a frozen fries when I visit a restaurant... Pure Kitchen's fries are ahhhhmazing! I would go there just for a huge helping. Maybe my next meal will be BELLE, their version of poutine (offered in the appetizersection), smothered with mushroom gravy and topped with your choice of cheese curds or cashew "faux cheese" Mmmmmmm, sounds delish! After the big meal, was there room for a sweet ending? I am not a huge fan of "dessert after dinner" but the selection offered by Pure Kitchen was intriguing and tantalizing. Sharing a dessert seemed like a good option to satisfy our curiosity and an almond caramel tart was ordered. Whether or not my state of complete appetite satisfaction had a role to play here, I must admit that this tart was a bit of a disappointment. I didn't even finish my small half; I was not "gelling" with the flavour profile. There was too much cinnamon for my liking. Although I normally love a hint of it in desserts, it was way too strong and overpowered the taste of almonds and caramel. But hey, I am sure that is a matter of tastebud opinion that could be debated by many! Pure kitchen also offers a lovely wine selection as well as non-alcoholic beverages including home pressed juices and smoothies. Knowing how labour intensive vegetables can be when elevating them to become the star attraction of a meal, I found the menu offered by Pure Kitchen extremely varied, well composed and reasonably priced. The service was also exceptional: friendly, efficient, knowledgeable and not at all intrusive. Just like the meals, it was well balanced and professional! Returned and had the acai smoothie bowl which was quite good, but not better than RAW Pulp and Grind or Paradise Poke and my friend had the chocolate smoothie bowl, which was quite honestly gross (doesn't taste at all like chocolate, just bitter). We were seated inside the restaurant this time and the ambiance and decor are very trendy and suit their whole theme quite nicely. Unfortunately the staff were quite unpleasant during this trip. We waited to be seated, no one seated us so we went to the counter, the girl there looked at us like we had three heads and asked if we wanted her to make us a smoothie, we declined and tried to order, but she told us to sit down, we waited there for 15 minutes (and got our own menus in the meantime) before anyone came to our table, my friend's smoothie bowl was made wrong, finally, waited for someone to bring us our bill, no one did so we went up to the cash and were again looked at like we have three heads.
