I had a WONDERFUL massage at Pure Serenity Spa with Linda!! She did an amazing job, exactly what I wanted - firm, good pain relief, but still relaxing. Kept checking to make sure I was comfortable. They had a special going - 75 min full body massage for $85, including a foot mask and a little bit of hot stones. There was also some assisted stretching which felt great. I am very pleased (and I have been to many many massages before)! The receptionist was also very kind and helpful. If I had to give any feedback, I would say it's a tiny bit cold in the room, but that was okay because I felt warm during the massage. Also I didn't smell the aromatherapy much after the first 1-2 minutes, but anyway that's an optional addition. Overall highly recommend! I will be going back! read more

There were two new women that both did a poor job with my girlfriend couples massage. There was no awareness of how to massage the body. So sad to say this but after one good experience previously, we had the worst ever couples massage. The therapist didn't focus on the lower back even though I requested it multiple times, felt super rushed, kept talking to the other therapist, leaving the room to get things (stones, Saran Wrap for the feet, hot pillow).....it was awful and sadly my boyfriend had an equally terrible one. We also paid $10 extra for lavender oil and could not smell the lavender. Total waste of money...when we complained, they gave us $40 back off of $180. Worst massage I have ever gotten. The receptionist admitted they were new and their better therapists did mot work on us. I will never return. read more

Best massage I've ever had. Mei can do no wrong! I'm very picky about my massages, but I got a Groupon for this place for a 90 minute deep tissue, so I tried it out and woooo baby was it worth it! Mei knew exactly where all the knots on my back were and I could feel her working them out completely. I like very firm pressure and she was consistent throughout. It just kept getting better and better! The ooonly thing I would have liked is if the massage had maybe 3-5 minutes dedicated to feet; they were massaged a little as an ending to the legs, so they felt a lil left out. But the rest of the massage was so nice I can't really complain. Pure serenity indeed. Also, the hot neck wrap they use is an AMAZING touch. read more

No frills; great massage. Great pressure and the masseuse checked in a couple of times to make sure the pressure was okay. I was looking for something that was going to ease my muscles after a new workout program and this delivered. It's not a luxury spa, but if all you care about is a quality massage, that shouldn't bother you. The front desk staff was extremely gracious. One important note: the room walls don't go all the way to the ceiling so you can hear what's going on in other parts of the salon. We schedule a 60-minute couples massage for 3:00. We were told to get there 10 minutes early to fill out some paperwork. We did. We wait. 3:00 comes and goes. We get into our massage room around 3:15. The massages were fine. However, my masseuse kept leaving (maybe 4 times total), not sure exactly what she was doing, but it definitely disrupted the flow. The massage was cut short, we only got about 50 minutes -- I'm assuming they were trying to catch up from the delayed started (even though we arrived early). There are certainly better options out there. read more

I actually come here quite a bit because the service and experience is so spectacular! I've been to several different spas and massage parlors in Chicago, but Pure Serenity Spa on Armitage proves my favorite time and time again. The girl at the front desk is always super friendly and kind, thoroughly explaining the different deals and offers before helping me select a package. You can also add hot stones, foot exfoliation, essential oils, etc., to your massage for a low price. The last several times I have been here, they have even offered me a pretty good deal. The price for the service you receive is unmatched. Affordable and very well worth it. They have always been incredibly professional and thoughtful, adhering to any requests or needs I might have, and even squeezing me into the schedule on short notice a couple times. The rooms are private, you are encouraged to strip down to underwear for full body massage, there are fresh sheets and relaxing music and allergy friendly lotions and oils. I have sensitive skin and have never experienced any break outs or rashes. They are thorough in asking if the pressure is okay, if there are any particular spots you'd like them to work on, if the stones are too hot, and ultimately prioritizing your comfort and satisfaction. Upon arrival I noticed the extremely low pricing outside of the building and couldn't figure out why...later after my massage was over and I got home I knew why. My therapist Tina was extremely rough with me and my body felt jolted and stressed. By the time I got home I had a full blown panic attack and was obviously triggered because when Tina used hard pressure she had no sense of honoring or listening to my body and she used extremely hard pressure with the hard stones over the back of my ribcage and the back of my vertebrae. I actually had professional training administering hot stone therapy by a team of licensed therapists who visited Chicago from Arizona specifically teaching proper use of hot stones. You're supposed to lay face up initially on the heated stones and or indirectly over a towel or sheet to warm up your back muscles first! Tina used a very hard shocking form of Chinese acupressure and it really bruised my body and left me feeling sore immediately after and my body and my mind were very stressed out. I also had to wash my hair and cut some of it! Tina's hands had lotion on it when she gave me a scalp massage ‍ and initially she had tied my hair up in an elastic band and a cheap, plastic clamp so pieces of my hair were frayed at the ends! My intention initially was to leave this tiny space a four star review; but after witnessing the damage to my hair I basically need to share my truth here as an honest review. This will be the last time I ever come here again based on this experience. During a traditional clinical massage a new client must receive a paper to fill out initially pointing and circling a diagram of the front and back of a human body. You should be given a pen and be able to circle areas of the body you wish to be addressed. Usually a therapist will ask you beforehand what areas of your body are giving you pain and she or he will concentrate on those areas only. I've had training in massage therapy and especially hot stone and these people obviously weren't trained in hot stone so if you're seeking an authentic hot stone application you will be disappointed here. Also I was told to pay everything up front for my services and then add a tip later. I tipped her 20% not realizing how damaged the ends of my hair were until much later. I never wear elastic rubber bands or plastic claws in my hair. Those are extremely harsh and who puts lotion on hair or uses lotion when using stones over your body? I also wanted to state that Tina never inquired if I had any prior injuries. I wish she had asked for my permission before cracking all of my toes because I have a few toes that were sprained and broken several years ago; and it made me feel nervous when she cracked each toe. She was extremely abrupt with her rough massage techniques and I'm still feeling anxious about everything that transpired. I'm extremely sensitive to energy and didn't appreciate the rough massage and extra pressure directly on my spinal column. The spinal column and lower tailbone are extremely delicate areas and you're never supposed to use such heavy pressure and force on these areas yet she did. read more

My friend and I found the couples massage deal for $109 on Groupon. I was a little hesitant at first going through Groupon because sometimes you don't always know but it was FANTASTIC. We arrived 10 minutes late and they still saw us for our massages. It was an hour long body massage with oils and hot stones. I let them know where I had the most discomfort in my body and the masseuse spent the appropriate amount of time healing that. Overall, it was a great experience and I would highly recommend. No detail was too small for my masseuse (I think Amy Zheng), as she addresses everywhere, from the earlobes, to fingertips, to toes. While this was my first time getting a deep tissue massage because I usually prefer light to medium pressure Swedish massages, what she was doing to my back (my problem area) felt so good. When she was massaging my calf, it decided to get a Charlie horse. However, what she did to it helped the pain go away instantly and she was able to carry on. I walked out feeling light as a feather! Now, there is something to be said about the 3/4 partition wall. I was in the first room closest to the reception area so I was able to hear the phone ringing, people talking/coughing, and the bus going by. I understand it is probably for the safety of the masseuse in the event of someone trying to harass them or worse, but it really does take away from the ambiance. Overall, it was a fairly good experience. I had a Groupon for a 90 minute massage with free hot stones and essential oils. While the hot stone part only lasted maybe 5 minutes, it was a good value for the price. read more

I've had about 50 massages in the past few years. I was drawn to this place by the proximity to my home and special offers. Everything looked fine, until the massage started. And at first when i was being knuckles and elbowed i thought it was the warm up. But after 15 min i spoke up. The lady didn't speak English. She continued to rapidly "massage", it was so fast, as if she was on speed. The knuckles kept coming and then she started clawing me with her finger nails. It was honestly one of the worst massages I've ever had. They made me pay upfront for the 60 min massage but around the 30 min mark i said i have to leave for dinner.
