I am 67 years old and I was getting weaker with each passing year. I just couldn't drag myself to the local gym or stick to a workout regime. My daughter found Pure Strength. I've been going twice a week for four months and am thrilled with the progress. The training is initially about form and understanding the approach, and it seemed light at first -- but I followed the process. After a couple of months, I was getting pushed hard. I am now able to easily get up from a lying down position without using my arms for support which is a HUGE development for me. The workout is intense, but it's only a half hour and the 1:1 staff is there to get you motivated. This program is a real gem. I now feel motivated to be more physically active in general. The program is more costly than a regular gym membership, but well worth it for me given the quality instructors and the results. I cant tell you enough about how the training at Pure Strength has helped me over the past 7 or so years. For me it is a manageable way to gain muscle and stay fit. As an undisciplined person who has not included weight training and really distained the idea of going to the gym, it is a doable practice that I have managed to keep up with over the long haul. I have noticed my body is more shaped, have maintained my strength as I continue to age, I am 70 now, and continue to progress even when I think I have plateaued. I purchased the Living Social deal for 10 classes. Due to the limited schedule I was only able to attend about 4 but I think I got the idea. The workout itself is intense and I appreciate the idea behind it. The super-slow method does work but I feel after the first couple of classes I can challenge myself the same at my local gym facility. What I did not like was the schedule in place for the Living Social deal. You don't find out untilyou attend the introductory session that the recipients of the deal are limited to 3 days per week and for an openperiod of 90 minutes on that dayplus the times aren't exactly convenient if you work so I was only able to make the Saturday option from 12p-1:30pm thus not being able to even get to my 10 class limit. I think it would've been a great option to notify customers in the deal offering of the days/times available. If this had been the case I probably would not have purchased knowing my schedule was not as flexible. read more

I just had my first workout with Melissa Gun. . .and oh WOW was it awesome! I have been fortunate to work out with the best of the best and over the last fifteen year, I achieved tremendous results in loosing weight and reshaping my body, I even ran a 1/2 marathon but nothing prepared me for the workout I had today. Less "IS" more, in 20 minutes with Melissa my whole body has just the right amount of fatigue and soreness, it feels as though I went to a kickboxing class AND did an hour of weight training. I had heard amazing raves and reviews, and seen first hand results in person about the slow strength training technique. It got my curiosity sparked as I try to tackle the battle of the bulge over the next ten weeks and signed up for a package of sessions. This is a genius workout! Melissa and her two trainers explained the technique in detailed perfection, answered all my questions and set my mind at ease. . . .but even then I wasn't sure what I was in for, it wasn't until I actually jumped on the machine and got started that I realized this was going to be the key to my loosing weight and getting ripped for the upcoming summer season. I expect great results and will update in ten weeks. My family owns a well known Pilates studios, and I am an avid Bikram practitioner but Pure Strength is where it's at if you want to get buff fast. The private gym is convenient to get to, free validated parking, clean and the vivacious encouragement given every minute was engaging and has got me excited for my next work out! . . . . .and it's a whole week away. I am so excited that I took a chance on this inventive form of strength training. I am 75, and the slow weight program with an individual coach has aided health and quality of life immeasurably. With a coach I have been able to dramatically strengthen muscles without injury. The body really responds to the workouts and I also become more flexible, believe it or not! As well as better at balance. The weights also really get circulation going and blood flowing. All of us elders should have the benefits from such a program. Melissa and Kirsten, whom I have worked with, are so attentive and encouraging and knowledgeable. I purchased a series of 10 classes through Living Social for myself and one as a gift. I tried many times to reach someone at the number given to call to schedule a class. After many attempts I finally received a return call from the owner whom then told me that I could not use my vouchers, mind you they have not expired yet. The reason she gave was that she set up special classes, classes not described on her website or on the Living Social offer I purchased and that those classes were the only ones I could have attended, and those classes were now over. I find this not only to be misleading but dishonest. She then told me that the only thing she could do was offer me one introductory class for an additional fee which was greater than what I paid for the initial voucher. This was to her some sort of concession, "This is what I can do for you." Remember my vouchers aren't even expired!! I don't know if her classes work but her way of doing business certainly doesn't work for me. read more

Melissa Gunn and all of her trainers are of the highest quality in terms of knowledge, skill, professionalism and personality. They know what they are doing. I walked in there 3 years without much strength, not very confident about my body and scarred from having been injured in almost every workout mode I have ever tried. Melissa reassured me that I would get stronger and that in all the time that she has been a trainer, none of her clients have ever been injured. I signed up. That was 3 years ago, and the only injury I ever suffered was a torn calf muscle - from my dance class! Other than that, I am so much stronger (and I feel it!), I have dropped a size, I have muscles in my shoulders that my husband has complimented and I feel a confidence in my body that I never thought possible. She did a great job explaining everything to me and I really felt like I got a major workout afterwards. Many years ago I tried to hoist myself out of my swimming pool and didn't have the upper arm strength to move even an inch. I wasn't "fat"...but I sure had no strength. None. A friend of mine told me about "Pure Strength" and I thought, "why not?" and contacted Melissa Gunn to see what it was all about. She not only trained me (strength training) but also educated me on what strength training was all about. It is intense. Sometimes I actually cried. It is not easy. But the results are that at my ripe old age (and I won't reveal what that is except to say "old") I am toned and people remark on how fit I not only look, but am. I can hike with my grandchildren and outlast them. I can lift heavier packages than they can. I feel strong. So that's the overview.
