In the past 15 years the Thai population in the US has doubled in size, and it's a community that opens a lot of restaurants. Manhattan's Thai food history reflects a cycle of immigration, culinary establishment, and geographical shifts, bolstered by national efforts to spread Thai culture through food. For decades, Hell's Kitchen, especially 9th Avenue (between 36th and 53rd St), was the spot for authentic Thai cuisine. Located between 51st and 52nd Street on 9th Avenue, my partner, my family, and I decided to have lunch at Pure Thai Cookhouse. A reservation was easily made via OpenTable. Upon entering the very popular husband-and-wife team establishment, we were greeted by the staff and got a round table by the window instead of the picnic bench-style table in their long and narrow paneled interior with vintage Thai movie posters invoking the outdoor street food culture. Their menu features the classic dishes one would find at a Thai restaurant (curries, stir-fries, and homemade noodles). For appetizers to share, we decided on the Mixed Appetizers, which featured 2 steamed vegetable dumplings, 2 root vegetable curry puffs, and 2 vegetable spring rolls. For our main meal, we opted for Pad See Ew with beef, Pad Thai with shrimp, Crab Fried Rice, and Wok Roasted Chili with Shrimp. The flavors were authentic and well-balanced. Each dish incorporated saltiness, aromatic spices and herbs, spiciness, sweetness, and sourness. If the dish does not tick all these boxes, then it is not truly Thai. We're convinced that almost anything on the menu would be great as is, with no tweaking or extra spice needed. Service was fast and friendly. Our server was Bew. One can truly experience real Thai cuisine without having to fly to Thailand.

This was my first time trying Pure Thai Cookhouse. The service here is kind and friendly, and the food is good. There was no wait for a table as my friends and I did a walk in on a evening weekday. I had the Pad See Ew with beef. There was a lot of beef but very few noodles. I came here with a party of five, and we each enjoyed our food, but all thought the portion sizes were smaller than expected. I also felt that rules such as requiring customers to order more than appetizers are not mindful of those who are trying to be conscious of their portion control. I know that I am someone that likes to eat a lot, but at times I do have friends that are more conscious of what they eat.

I haven't tried all the newer Thai options in the area, but think this one is still really solid. Walk-in wait wasn't crazy on a Saturday night. Root Vegetable Puffs, Fried Rice with Crab Meat, Crab and Pork Dry Noodles, Duck Noodle Soup, and the special fish curry (chu-chee pla),egg omelette with shallot and the pumpkin custard dessert. And when my friend from Thailand visited, her family also brought her here so that affirms the authenticity!

This place has expanded with two sections of seating. The menu is quite extensive now and has some unique dishes that other Thai restaurants don't. The tom yum noodle soup had a delicious, fragrant broth with a nice kick. A slightly bit too creamy for my palate but good. I forgot the name of the other dish but it was good although I didn't like it as much. I preferred their rice noodles here which were properly cooked. But the broth was a bit too sweet for my liking. Such friendly, attentive service!

Nestled in Hell's Kitchen, Pure Thai Cookhouse have some very unique dishes. My friend and I both ordered the Crab and Pork Dry Noodles which was super flavorful. It was an interesting and unique display of Thai cuisine and super tasty. The restaurant is a bit smaller in size but super quaint and just right for my catchup with a friend. Highly recommend this spot if you want a cozy spot in Hells Kitchen.

Pure Thai really hit the spot. I ordered the vermicelli noodle soup with beef and was happy to find the broth full of flavor without being too salty, which was something I was worried about at first. It was light, comforting, and so so good that I finished the entire bowl. The best part though was dessert, the egg custard on sticky rice. It was perfectly sweet, soft, and melted in my mouth, making it the perfect ending to an already delicious meal. Definitely coming back and bringing friends along. There's plenty of space.

Nice place to get a bowl of Thai noodles. Made a reservation online and we were promptly seated when we arrived. I enjoyed the two dishes I got which were the dry noodles with crab (sort of sweet) and the pork noodles (sour and salty). The pork was very good as well. Solid noodle dish. Prices as expected for Hells Kitchen and the joint had ample seating with hooks to hang up your stuff. Overall nice meal would return if you are in the mood for some soup noodles and pork.

I decided to have an early dinner one day when I was busy running errands along 9th Avenue and I had never been here before. 9th Avenue is laced with many Thai restaurants which I had already eaten at and I wanted to try a new pkace. It is a small space [almost like a railroad apartment] two similar spaces side by side. I was seated immediately and water was brought to the table. i looked over the menu and decided on the pad thai with shrimp. It arrived promptly and was hot and delicious. I saw that other patrons in the restaurant were thai so I felt this was a good sign in term of food quality. My food was served in a bowl and it seemed a little on the meager side but there were enough shrimps to make up for this. I finished my meal, paid the check and in summary, it is a pleasant place for Thai food, it has a nice vibe, it is not expensive, the staff was very pleasant and I would return and recommend giving this restaurant a try if you have not done so already.

I think if you close your eyes and threw something, it would hit a Thai restaurant in Hell's kitchen - there are so many options, but the one with the best reviews consistently seems to be Pure Thai - we started with the mixed appetizers which came with two root vegetables puffs, two steamed vegetable dumplings, and two crispy spring rolls. I wish they had a sampler that came with meat options. the root puffs should be called curry puffs were super unique and tasted like an Indian dish. super hearty!! very potato forward. there were 3 of us so didn't get to try the others as it came with 2 each - we got the wok chili turmeric with beef which was exploding with rich flavor. the beef and vegetables were sitting in such a flavorful strong sauce that we all ate on its own with our spoons after - the ratchaburi crab and pork dry noodles was a very interesting dish. it was light and fresh even with the fatty chewy chunks of pork. I do think the ingredients didn't go together that well without a sauce or broth base, but you can tell they make their own noodles by how chewy these egg noodles were - the pad kee moa with chicken stole the show! these noodles were doughy and soft yet bouncey. I have no idea how they didn't stick together. they almost melted on your tongue. phenomenal!!! - the chicken was OK but the sauce and vegetables complimented the dish so well. it wasn't too spicy for our taste bud sensitive friend - prices are reasonable and the workers are so kind. two rooms so looks way smaller than it really is from the outside

The food here is super tasty! I love the Pad Thai noodles, they're really chewy which is the perfect texture to me. The Thai Iced Tea here is a little too sweet for my preference but the creamy consistency is great.

First thai food stop I've tried in ny! We got pad thai, papaya salad, duck noodle, pork noodle, one of the special seafood noodle, and mango sticky rice. Overall everything was really good! Mango sticky rice was a bit too sweet though.

This place is a gem. The ambiance is quirky. The food is very good. The service is friendly. I've only tried some of the apps and noodles here. Everything was really good. My only minor complaint is that they are a bit pricier and portions are a tad smaller than other Thai restaurants in the area. But since my go-to place closed down, I'll be here for my Thai fix. Highly recommend!

    Yes definitely

    Soft shell crab?

I've never seen it on their menu.

Is the wait better at lunch?

Only been once for lunch but it was better 😊

Do they take reservations in advance?

No, it's a really small place. The only time there is a wait is before shows (6:00-7:30). The wait will only be 15-20 min. Wait time is longer if your group is 5 or bigger.

Do they serve Gluten Free Thai food (Celiac)?

Yes, I was told by the server that the Pad Thai can be made GF upon request and a couple salad options are GF as well. Just ask the server when you're ordering.

Do they have sticky rice with mango here?

Yes they do! Champagne mangoes with coconut sticky rice

    Is this byob restaurant?

    No it's not.

We walked into a modern atmosphere with a mix of bar seating, high tops, and traditional tables, the kind of place that works comfortably for anything from a casual lunch to a longer dinner experience. The room had a polished, energetic feel with a layout that accommodated both quick stops and more leisurely meals, and the open kitchen added a layer of engagement as we watched the dishes being prepared. The ramen is the main attraction, with rich and flavorful broths that showcase a lot of depth. We ordered a few bowls and found the tonkotsu ramen standing out with its creamy, savory broth, the porkiness coming through clearly without being overly heavy. The tan tan ramen offered a nice balance of spice and nuttiness, with a broth that had a subtle heat and a sesame undertone that lingered after each bite. Beyond ramen, the menu had plenty of options worth exploring, including pork belly, sticky ribs, bao, duck tacos, and sushi selections, each dish arriving well assembled and thoughtfully prepared. The pork belly was tender and well charred, and the duck tacos offered a rich, savory contrast to the lighter ramen bowls. The lunch sets were also a good way to try multiple items while keeping the meal more approachable. The service was one of the highlights of the experience, with the staff being attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Their recommendations helped guide the meal, and the overall hospitality added to the quality of the visit. The restaurant has a polished atmosphere that feels more like a full dining experience rather than a quick ramen stop. The team moved through the room with efficiency, and the pacing of the meal kept the experience smooth without feeling rushed. Overall, Momosan Ramen & Sake is a great option for those looking for ramen with a more refined touch. While the pricing is higher than a traditional ramen shop, the combination of quality ingredients, creative dishes, and atmosphere makes it a worthwhile place to visit for a more complete Japanese dining experience.

The beef soup is clear and light and the noodles have a delightful texture, with a slight chew and good bounce. There's a good portion of braised beef as well. Tender but a bit fatty for my taste, but given the portion it's not going to kill you. Lamb burger ended up as overkill and will be consumed as leftovers but a quick sampling let me know that it's gamey and fatty with strong notes of cumin. Not a bad thing, but something to note for people that might not generally enjoy lamb or cumin. Black pepper beef rice bowl was solid too. Spice wise, you can calibrate accordingly but I'd recommended at least their regular spice level. Decent amount of tenderized but still chewy beef. Both dishes came with a salad of celery, carrot, cucumber, peanuts and seaweed strips in a light sauce. Couldn't quite figure out the sauce but it was lightly tart and refreshing. Space is clean and modern. Neutral wood, well lit. Service is friendly enough. If you dine in, you order at the kiosk and they'll deliver to your table. The Ahi Tuna was the perfect and proper color it should be. The flavors were SPECTACULAR-WONDERFUL!!! NOTE: WAGAMAMA has added to their menu, since my last visit, so you now have a RAMEN SELECTION, and other yummy additions. I was too full from my spectacular Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl to try the Korean bbq Chicken Wings ($8.95) but, I will definitely be back to try them!! I'll post menu photos so you have an idea of the delicious food choices. (April 2026) My very first delicious bite of Ahi Tuna had a heavenly garlic flavor, it was wonderful, and the sweet green seaweed with rice only added to the wonderfulness. Vertical slices of cucumber, onion and scallion, also add deliciously to my wonderful Poke Bowl. Toasted sesame seeds, too. SIMPLY MARVELOUS!!! Remember to be sure to mix the poke bowl rice as you eat, so that you mix the rice with the yummy sauce that may accumulate at the bottom of the poke bowl. I usually eat a little while, THEN, mix the rice. This was so good, I had to eat, eat, eat, before I could stop to mix. LOL. That sweet green seaweed was so yummy!! A lovely mix of flavors...the garlic, the sweetness....I LOVED IT ALL SO MUCH!!!! When was the last time you enjoyed a dish so very much that you felt like standing up in the restaurant and telling everyone: THIS IS SOOO DELICIOUS!!!! Well, I felt like that, but I didn't stand up and tell everyone, but I did tell the manager, who happen to come to the table to ask how everything was. And I let him know how much I was enjoying the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl. He explained why and how the tuna was so flavorful. We had a delightful brief foodie chat. What a joy!! The service is very nice here. I like the atmosphere too. And the music, which is cool; it does not interfere with thinking, or having a conversation. I really like it here . The women's rest room was very nice, and clean, with a Dyson Hand Dryer, so no paper towels on the floor. Yay! Helping our environment, too!! And I like the black and white wall paper, too. See my photos My last visit I enjoyed the Pad Thai, and the same non-alcoholic beverage, " Asian Mint Limeade", from the MINDFUL DRINKS area on the beverage menu. ($9.50) (April 2026). A nice treat! It does have a light carbonation (bubbles). This visit my delicious meal was from the BOWLS SECTION of the food menu, it was the AHI TUNA POKE BOWL ($17.95) (April 2026) With warm, and hot weather on the way, I know I will be enjoying this AHI TUNA POKE BOWL again...and again! A waitress, she had long hair and a nose ring, approached me when I was just glancing her way during eating. I didn't need anything, but I appreciate the favor. That same waitress gave me my receipt too early like she wanted me to leave ASAP. This was right before I asked to look at the desserts after I finished my meal. A "Would you like some dessert?" would have be appreciated. Cedrick, my principal waiter, was phenomenal. He decided to take care of me after no one was at the hosting desk for 5 minutes after I arrived. I had the chicken potsticker ramen and it was delicious! The potsticker was seasoned very well: my favorite part. To drink, I had the Asian Arnold Palmer and it was a cute drink! Only downside is the sweetness was not even distributed through the drink, even after I mixed the drink. Even though I had an issue with the service, I saw how caring they were (he looked like a manager now) to a family that came after me with organizing their seats and getting a baby chair. I just wished they gave me the same respect instead of rushing me out the door.

Of course they had classic shio and miso ramens, but they also had a duck tsukumen, a red snapper ramen, a black truffle ramen, and the dish I set my sights on-- the uni mazemen. There were also lots of appetizers and a long list of high end onigiri featuring proteins like scallop lemon shio, A5 wagyu ponzu, and bluefin chutoro on offer. This place was the real deal. Our group shared the tebasaki wings-- so crispy and so flavorful, I could have inhaled a whole plate of these. The salmon, ikura, and apple appetizer that was served in a glass chalice was superb but even better was the bluefin tuna avocado sashimi with wasabi. That one was a winner across the board. And then my uni mazemen, which really stole the show. There was a very generous portion of uni that mixed with the savory sauce and al dente ramen noodles perfectly. This dish was rich, unctuous, and fresh and definitely delivered in value, though it was double the price of most other noodle bowls. Uni is a delicacy. Having just returned from a second trip to Japan I can say this place is really as good as any restaurant I visited in Japan, and it's right here in Murray Hill. These Murray Hill bros are lucky.
