Came here just for the Taiwanese shaved ice. I chose the make your own option which comes with four toppings. I will note that the red bean they use is clearly from a can as it's quite sweet and kind of mushed into a paste like consistency in places. They do give ample portions, however, and for $10 it's a large shaved ice. Taiwan Pork Chop House in Chinatown does a $5 shaved ice but it's about half the size of this one. The restaurant itself was rather clean and well maintained with an open kitchen. The staff taking orders was very friendly. All orders, even for those dining in, are served in take out containers. I'm not sure about environmentally - I'm sure it ends up in a lot of containers being thrown away from those who don't want or can't carry around a take out container for the remainder of their day. But I'm sure this was a work around to them not having space for dish washing in the small kitchen. It would be nice if they provided recycling in the restaurant. read more

Ordering was quite easy, you order on a kiosk and they will call your number when it's ready. And you would pick it up and choose your spot to sit if you're dining in. I went around maybe 3 pm on a weekday and it looks like some of their more popular items were already sold out. I got the beef noodle soup with a black milk tea with boba. The beef noodle soup was hearty and flavorful, I loved that the beef was tender, and there was quite a bit of it. This definitely hit the spot during the cold weather. From order to receiving your food takes about 7-8 minutes so it's pretty fast. Service is nice and they are appreciative of their customers. Fir what it is, Yumpling is a standout. Casual/fast dumplings amd other Taiwanese fare. I had a hige steak for dinner the previous evening, so this was a vegg9e meal to compensate. I had a small order of the veggie dumplings garnished wirhnthe chili paste, scallions and other herbs, the tofu edamame and preserved veg salad, and the pickled lotus roots. Dumplings were fantastic - plump, crispy/chewy, with an excellent filling of mixed vegs and tofu, and the chili sauce and scallions - all of the flavors mingled and exploded on consumption! Tofu edamame salad was great - pickled vegs were key to the flavor, and lotus root was vinegary and peppery in a way I love. Bottom line - great place for a quick, ultra casual lunch, but get here before the lunch rush - it is a well known place by now! Welcome Yumpling to Midtown Manhattan! Today is the soft opening of Yumpling in Midtown Manhattan. This is their second store. First store is located in LIC. Yumpling created an eventbrite event to manage the audience since today is literally their 1st day of their soft opening. I was expecting it to be a little crazy though it was nicely managed. Employees were been trained while we were putting in our lunch order. I was craving their beef noodles even though their lu rou and dumplings were a must have. I put my order in the kiosks (there are 3), the cashier wasn't open today. I waited about 10 minutes for my order to be ready. There are a few kinks (timing between back of the house and when the order is ready) though I'm sure it will get worked out. There was a slight confusion when a name was called and 2 customers answered (though 1 customer jumped the food line unintentionally). The packaging is great... there is a separator from the soup and the dry ingredients so the noodles don't get water logged. Food is great and satisfying as the LIC location. Wondering if they have a screen so customers can check to see if the order is ready. So happy, Yumpling opened a location in Manhattan! Good Luck and Best Wishes! Super quick, friendly service with delicious food! One of the co-founders, Jeff, was behind the counter and had the best personality. We ordered the zhajiangmian, small order of Yumplings, and chicken Dan bing. The crispy chicken bian dang was phenomenal with the lu rou fan. I wish they gave slightly bigger portions of the sides. The pork and chive dumplings were bursting with flavor (highly highly recommend) but the chicken dumplings were lacking in flavor and texture. They also have canned drinks from Taiwan I'd recommend! Great service! Chris, one of the owners was manning the counter and was super friendly and helpful. This Taiwanese fast-casual spot is so far open during weekday lunch hours. The space is great for dining in: there's a center dining table and bar seating by the window too. Very efficient and conducive for takeout option, with options to order at the kiosk or at the register, and of course via online orders. I always find myself at Yumpling's Queens location for a quick dinner, so it's exciting to see them grow! As of now, they have the same menu as the LIC location. I ordered the crispy chicken bian dang here, which was very yum and such big portion. They offer two sides with the bian dangs at this location :D The popcorn chicken is crispy and are large pieces of chicken. It comes with two dipping sauces as well (my personal favorite is the basil aioli). Dumplings.. er, sorry, YUMplings; I absolutely prefer the pork ones... it's, IMO, what they are SUPPOSED to be filled with and the chives just give them that touch of authenticity. The chicken and veggie ones aren't bad, but I simply prefer the OG pork ones. Now, the office was split on this. We need a tie breaker! The Pork Chop over rice, otherwise known as "Pai Gu Fan", tasted JUST like their counter parts in Asian neighborhoods in the outer boros. Served with a bit of their Lu Rou (seasoned mince meat + what I believe is preserved veggies) over your rice of choice, 1/2 a soy sauce egg and pickled veggies. Value; this is where they loose points. Out the door @ just under $16 for a rice dish is good value for midtown Manhattan... but, IMO, you fall short when you fail to satisfy a big boy's appetite. Say, you get their Yumpling Trio; yes, a very tasty treat (although some of my work pals didn't quite feel the thickness of their dumpling skin), the portion is insufficient for IT to be lunch at $21. We stopped here yesterday after getting a coat for my freezing cold daughter nearby because everyone was hungry from walking around 5th Ave. We weren't expecting a whole lot to be honest but it was seriously good street food. The jia jang mian was way better than I ever would have expected from a little kiosk like this and the dumplings were all great. The fried chicken had a little touch of sweetness and 5 spice which was really nice and surprising. The space is pretty much focused on takeout but they have a couple places to sit if you need it.
