After walking nearly nine miles through 100-degree New York City heat, I had a late-night craving for Asian food. Fortunately, there were plenty of options near my Midtown hotel that offered quick delivery. Dagg Thai was just around the corner and had solid Yelp ratings. Rather than creating an online account, I called the restaurant directly and placed my order. They estimated delivery would take about 25 minutes. Less than 20 minutes later, the food was waiting for me in the hotel lobby. I ordered: * Cashew Nuts with Shrimp -- Bell peppers, onions, scallions, cashews, and dried chilies. * Dumplings -- Mixed shrimp and pork served with a soy vinaigrette dipping sauce. The Cashew Nuts with Shrimp had a flavorful, light sauce with just the right amount of heat. I really enjoyed it. My only disappointment was that the shrimp were battered and fried; I would have preferred grilled or pan-seared shrimp. The dumplings were more like shoo-mai than traditional dumplings. They were a bit dense but still flavorful and satisfying. Considering the quick delivery, the food arrived piping hot, and the excellent Cashew Nuts dish, this was an easy four-star meal. read more

Celebrated another mini college reunion with dinner in this Thai restaurant located in the Bryant Park area. This is one of my friend's go-to restaurant. My other friend made the reservation and when we arrived the place was packed! Ambiance was small but thankfully there are 2 floors of dining. When we were finally seated, we started off with the following drinks: I ordered the Light(chee) Me Up cocktail, which was refreshing and a bit strong. My friend ordered the Mr. Tamarind Man cocktail, she enjoyed it. My other ordered the Impressive cocktail, because gin is the go-to liquor. Last my other friend went safe and ordered the Thai Ice Coffee. After reading the Yelp reviews of this place, I went with the consensus of what the reviewers enjoyed and recommended to order. Therefore, I ordered the gluten-free Scallop Bite (Scallop, dried shrimp, betel leaf, shallot, lime, roasted coconut, ginger, peanut, chili, caramelized coconut sauce), which is their appetizer meant to share, but ended up making it a meal. In addition, I ordered their Crispy Papaya Salad (Crispy papaya, carrot, tomato, corn, string bean, cashew nut). This textures of this salad reminded me of the the crispy water spinach salad I would normally get at Ayada. I agree with the Yelp consensus who dined here that both dishes are ordering! Meanwhile, my friends ordered Veggie Rolls (Glass noodle, taro, cabbage, carrot, plum sauce) and individual orders of Chicken Kee Mao Thai Spicy and Chicken Kaprow Thai Spicy, which they enjoyed. To end the night we ordered the Caramel Delight and Taro Puff for desserts, which hit the spot. Personally I enjoyed the Taro Puff a bit more than the Caramel Delight. Came here for a quick dinner with an out towner who wanted Thai cuisine. It was a Monday night and I quickly made the reservation via OpenTable - pretty seamless. The sauce went really well with it. The servers were really attentive and made sure our water glasses were full. The interior is super modern, although a bit dim. Service was excellent and the food was great! To start, we ordered drinks and a variety of appetizers. I appreciated that they had a great menu of fun mocktails to choose from, so there were awesome NA options besides just soda or juice. I ordered one of the curries and it was surprisingly spicy! It's my own fault because the menu did show that it was spicy, but it was just more than I was expecting. I tried Dagg Thai recently using a doordash credit and promo. It was close to where I worked and I had this spot bookmarked. I ordered the lunch special, which came with Chicken Pas See Eiw and Dumplings on the side. The portion was solid for a lunch deal, and the main entrees was alright. My only wish was that they included some hot sauce or chili sauce on the side. Something to give it a little bit of a kick. The dumplings were a nice bonus and the sauce they gave for it. I've walked in twice for dinner and enjoyed both visits. The atmosphere here is pleasant (two stories, huge bar, not too crowded) and the service is attentive. My favorite dishes so far are the the scallop bite and kang pu. The scallops come in these leaves that you DIY wrap. Sort of messy but so good, a mix of spicy sweet savory. The kang pu is crab meat wrapped in leaves, swimming in curry with noodles on the side for dipping. The crab meat is tender and the curry is flavorful. The plating is also thoughtful - like the sticky rice we got for the E-Ped came wrapped up to preserve the warmth/moisture. For drinks I've tried the Bee Nice and Mr. Tamarind Man. Both are good options if you like sweet and not too spirit forward. The tamarind sorbet for dessert is light and I really enjoyed it, as someone who doesn't have tamarind often. Prices are mid-high range which a good amount of the well known Thai restaurants seem to hit at. I recommend this for the next time you're in midtown looking for good food and ambience. read more

Once our full party arrived we were immediately seated. The place is a good size with table and bar seating. The drinks were very tasty but for the price I want more alcohol! All the food was really good, my first scallop experience and it was so good! the chicken wings were fried perfectly and was dusted with a spiced seasoning blend which I liked. I had the beef salad for dinner it was good, except I think most the the beef piece were to fatty...like that hard fat that can not be chewed by human teeth...lol the flavor was there tho it also did not have enough "salad". Dagg Thai was our final dinner stop during my recent trip to New York given its high reviews and proximity to our hotel in Midtown. Coming in on a weekend, we were lucky that they had some tables in the back available without a reservation. The restaurant ambiance was very chic without it coming off outrageously high end. As a vegan, I was surprised that there was only one option for me which was their Massaman Curry with Tofu. Initially I wanted to order a noodle dish with some animal products removed, but they told me the sauce they used to stir-fry all contained ingredients I couldn't eat. The curry I had was pretty good overall. There was a generous amount of tofu skin, potatoes, and onions included that paired well with my bowl of rice. I found the spice level to be great as well but could've gone a bit more spicy next time. Hopefully in the future there will be other vegan friendly items that plant-based diners can pick from to diversify their choices. read more

I have been to Dagg a large number of times recently as it was delicious and very conveniently located near me. I would always order the crispy papaya salad, as it is a unique take on som tum that I have not seen anywhere but is super delcious due to the thin layer of fried coating and the sauce it is drenched in. Other dishes at Dagg are also not far behind as the main proteins have all been great as well. They also do a strong version of the crab fried rice, with ample lumps of crab meat! I personally got the fried branzino - the sauce was good, but my fish was reaaaalllyyy crispy and not that much meat was in it, so I was eating rough parts the whole time. The sauce that came with the scallop was SO GOOD. Drinks were also great, loved the it's corn as it tasted like cereal with milk. I like the dim lighting and regal wooden decor. The only dish I disliked (which I never had a great one yet from restaurants) pad Thai. Wouldn't recommend that dish. Pivoted with shrimp Panang curry. We started dinner at 5:30 PM, and by 6:30 PM the staff informed us that we only had 15 minutes left. They then handed us the dessert menu. I mentioned that most restaurants in New York typically allow around 90 minutes for dining, but they explained that they were fully booked and that we were only given 1 hour and 15 minutes for the entire dinner service. That meant we had just 15 minutes left to order and finish dessert. This was a very unpleasant experience. At the very least, they should have informed us about the time limit before we started dining. read more

The ambiance is beautiful and the food is tasty! Some of the food is pretty standard Thai food but some dishes stood out like the Morning Glory, the Scallop Bites, and the steak platter. The portion sizes are good for sharing among a small party. The service was good--they provided a baby seat for my cousins one year old and they were attentive to getting us extra utensils. I would have preferred a little less ginger but really enjoyed this dish overall. Larb wings: Crispy and juicy wings with tender meat. I appreciate them giving us wet wipes to clean our hands. Crispy papaya salad: Think papaya salad, but they battered and fried the papaya. I really enjoyed the flavors and despite being fried, the salad didn't taste oily at all. Entrees: Pla Nueng Manow: The steamed fish was tender, however, I feel like the fish was small for the price. I've had better steamed fish at other Thai restaurants. Nuer Yang: The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and I liked the sauce and sticky rice that came with it. Again, I felt like the amount of steak given was little compared to the price point. There were maybe about 6 slices of thinly cut steak. Dagg Haeng Noodle: The crispy pork belly had perfectly crispy skin and the meat was tender and perfectly cooked. The noodles were very saucy but also flavorful. Morning glory: Loved the flavors and the crunch of the veggies. Just wish the portion size was a little bit bigger for $24. Dessert: Mango sticky rice: They give two slices of sweet mango on top of coconut sticky rice. Really delicious! Overall, I really enjoyed the flavors of every dish. However I did feel that the entrees were a little small compared to the price. We also made a reservation but had to wait 15-20 minutes before we were able to get seated.
