Worst experience ever. My family has owned multiple nail salons but have just recently decided to take a break from the business. I typically get my nails done from my aunt or my mom but now that they're no longer working, I decided to give Purity Nail Bar a try as I wanted my nails done for the upcoming holidays. Almost as soon as I sat down, the lady working on my nails (Bella) and the one sitting next to her did not hesitate to start talking about me in Vietnamese. Mind you, they didn't even bother ASKING me if I understood Vietnamese before they began talking smack about me to my face. The entire time I was getting my nails done I continued speaking in English & sitting there quietly just to see what else they had to say. Really shows you people's true colors. I understand that it is stereotypical that "Asians will talk shit about you in nail salons" but this has never been the case for me before & I have gone to PLENTY of nail salons in my life. Besides that, it was clear my worker was new and barely knew what she was doing. She didn't bother taking the time to shape my nails (most of them were left in my natural shape even after I told her I wanted them straighter). When showing her a picture of what I originally wanted, she proceeded to say in Vietnamese to another coworker "Only John knows how to do this but it's too much work to switch back & forth so I'm just going to tell her I can't" before telling me in English "No, we cannot do this style." When it came to the designs on my nails, she messed up and had to have John come over to fix it multiple times. I lost count how often she had to rub off a nail & start over. In the end, all the nails with designs on it had been fixed or done completely by John. Other places charge less and can get you the same services for better quality--minus the trash talk. If you're considering getting your nails done here, I would highly recommend taking your money somewhere else. In total I paid $49 for a gel manicure with designs, which I would have been fine with if it came out more similar to the picture I'd asked for. If I could leave a lower review I would. Horrible customer service experience and ridiculous cancelation policy. I had an appointment for a pedicure and manicure, but the day before I injured my foot. So I showed up for the appointment to get my manicure and the attendent proceeded to tell me I am going to be charged a $30 cancelation fee for the pedicure. I tried to explain about the injury and after much back and forth they said they would only charge me $15. At this point I felt so used and mistreated I left because I could not stand to be around such blatant money grabbing. I don't usually leave reviews but I felt I needed to in this case at the very least as a warning to others who will hopefully learn from my mistakes. Although John may be talented, it didn't seem to carry over with him when he opened Purity nail bar. I used to see him at Paris Nails, an AMAZING salon with kind workers & ever since he opened his own, he thinks he is entitled and can do a sloppy job since he is the owner. John and his wife do not care about customer service so don't let their answers back to the other bad reviews fool you. All they care about is their money- even to the extent that they double book appointments when under staffed and work on two clients nails at a time. I was one of Johns first clients at his new salon, and he cared SO much that he blocked me on instagram after not coming back to his salon. The reason for this is: 1) He rushed my appointments to work on other "more expensive sets" 2) Made decisions about my nails without consulting with me first- then charging me extra 3) His wife nearly yelled at me the last time I went in and gave me a panic attack. The last time I was there, they made me wait over an hour, and when I complained Quinn told me they fit me into the schedule "to be nice" and CANCELED another clients appointment. I explained to her that that is extremely unprofessional and should not have happened. After waiting for over an hour and a half after that point, John went to the back and disappeared. Mediocre nail bar with rude owner. The person who did my nails did a fine job. I've been to better places and I've been to worse places. I don't ever do designs or anything crazy for my nails, so for someone who just wants really good dip, they did a mediocre job. The tops aren't smooth, but the shape is great and the color choices were great. It was a wonderful surprise to see the manager who I haven't seen in years working at this nail salon. I did not have any problems with her, however my friend had an awful experience with her getting her nails done and it made me feel very uncomfortable. I am in a management role and know how hard it can be to take criticism and react to clients. Mistakes were made and they were not handled well. I've been coming here for over a year and have consistently been happy with the results and customer service. John and Quinn care deeply for their staff and customers and always have service with a smile. If there's any issues, they are more than happy to help or fix them. Every individual who has done my nails at purity has done an excellent job, not just with the dip, but with the shape, style, and finish as well. I was getting my nails trimmed and the lady decided to file the surface of my nails very very thin! It threw me off but I trusted that she knew what she was doing. Now that it has been about 2 weeks I see that this decision was awful. My nails are now uneven, flimsy and breaking! I would recommend a appointment, I came in the evening and they were a little busy. John did my acrylics for prom and they are AMAZING I am absolutely in love with my nails. Went there for acrylic nails for the first time ever. I have very small fingers and short nails. No experience at all. That's not the problem. The problem is what they looked like when they were done. Really bad. When I called and spoke to someone about how unhappy I was, they wouldn't fix them unless I paid more money. The other salon removed the nails and told her they were clearly to thick which is why they looked so bad. So while I hear what you're saying and I appreciate it, this was not done properly. I can't speak highly enough about this place. I've been in Boston for over 10 years and have been in search of a good nail salon. Not only are they clean but they are ALL really good at what they do. I can't speak to the actual services, but before you can book an appointment, they make you leave a $20 deposit (for a service that's theoretically only $30). Not only that, but the deposit can only be made via Venmo or Zelle, which means you don't have the protection you would with a credit card (never mind the fact that you're then paying most of the amount in cash rather than a credit card that has points). I understand that it may be preferable for the business to do this, but they just lost a potential client because of this sketchy requirement. read more

John is very talented but Quinn ruins this place. Her sarcastic tone is awful, constantly yells at other customers while I am getting my nails done, & makes fun of customers while talking on the phone. She block me from calling the salon because I complained the design I showed was totally different from what was on my nails for my birthday. I went here for two years and now It's imposible to get an appointment with John. Quinn says he can only do expensive full sets only. So money driven and less customer satisfaction. I rather go to boston nails and spa which may be a little more expensive but has the same or better quality nail art. better places in the area. John is a 9/10 Quinn -1000/10. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS REVIEW BEFORE ENTERING! I usually love the service from John, he's a great nail tech. He is the only one that knows how to do designs, but quite frankly the only one that knows how to do nails at all. EVERY SINGLE OTHER EMPLOYEE can not perform to the standards that he leaves. I would usually give 4 stars, but tonight they made me angry. Here's what I left them with their feedback section... "My service today was pathetic to the point where I didn't even get them done. The nail tech I had working on my nails didn't know how to properly not cut my cuticles while using the nail drill buffer tool (the FIRST step of any process using fake nails). I do nails myself, and this is not good customer service nor proper work etiquette. If a client says something like there's pain, the explanation is not needed. Just fix the fact you're filing on top of my skin. I understand that John is the person to do designs, but as a nail tech you should also know how to use your nail drill and not cut the client. I asked if she could cut my cuticles because the drill was painful. 1) I was told only after it is complete. 2) A large explanation as to why they don't cut the cuticle.... I don't care if I bleed. I would've done the same with her filing on top of my skin. I even offered to pay for it done later on. If John was the only one to complete the job, I should've been told that he's the only one that will treat my nails with such care. But why doesn't ANY OTHER EMPLOYEE know how to treat with care?! Awful. Then of course, the nail tech working on my nails did not want to touch my nails after because she didn't want to "hurt me." No, that's not taking responsibility and clearly this is why she is still having issues with her technique. After that encounter I do not want to return to Purity Nails. I am appalled by the service and will not recommend others to go. After contemplating whether I should go to John (since he miraculously freed up at 7PM and they told me now he can do it instead) I call the shop multiple times (because I left out of frustration). Not only was the phone answered but I've been hung up on multiple times. When I ask my friend to call immediately after, she gets a response ASAP with full conversation. This is pathetic service. I'm upset, and you should be upset too." I ended up going to a completely different place called Fancy Nails in Dorchester. I will go back there. read more

To follow up to the response yes I am aware I was offered to come back in and take off the design I 100% acknowledge that but it was obviously not convenient for me to go back there the same day when I was no longer in town. I don't live near the Brighton area again this is common sense why that would be inconvenient for your customer to have to return when the service should have been done correct in the first place. And please note I would have return the next day to get the design removed but YOU said that wasn't an option so offering me to come back in the same day when I told you that was not possible is clearly unhelpful. To be clear I originally wanted the design fixed not just taken off and when I realized that wasn't an option I opted for the top coat. It was THE NEXT DAY when the actual design started peeling off I felt I should be offered a credit or something it was never about not wanting to pay, it was about wanting THE SERVICE I PAID FOR. That is what is fair for your business and your customers should be common sense. Second of all I didn't make a fake account lol you are so unprofessional and petty I was trying to respond to the first post and couldn't so I wrote again. Very profesional and mature to delete your original threat " if you keep this up You will get in touch with me" whatever that means and then you comment this and say you don't "give a Shizz about you" you are truly a pathetic joke a and "shizzy" business owner lol I will be sure to share your incompetence with all of my networks. I loved this salon and have been going for the last two years, never once canceled nor no showed ever !! However, today something important came up and I drive an hour to see John, I couldn't make it and called to reschedule. I was told I could never book with him again and to call back and book with someone else. I'm sorry but coming from someone who is also a stylist I would never act that way towards a good client on a first and only time offense. It's very unfair and although I understand it's an inconvenience to cancel and reschedule day of an appointment, there has to be an understanding when it comes from someone who has never done that in the 2 years they have been a loyal client.
