One of the best things about this location is that it's the water district, making it a perfect stop after a walk or dinner. Stopped in last weekend during the Art Festival on Water Street. It was super hot and their $2 any size soda deal is what initially drew us in... although we did end up getting some ice cream to share! This is a cute little ice cream & snow cone spot. You can either walk in to order or walk up to the window on the side of the building. Prices were great, portions were a little larger than other similar businesses (a single scoop in a cup was almost equivalent to a double scoop other places), and location is perfect. Service was okay; the girl helping us wasn't particularly friendly, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt since it was unusually hot and busy. read more

Went to Purple Penguin with my nephews, and we all really enjoyed it. The staff was super sweet and helpful. The girl at the register even offered to put our snow cones into larger cups to help avoid a sticky mess with the kids, which was really nice. The shaved ice was honestly the closest thing I've found in Vegas to authentic Hawaiian shaved ice. The ice was super smooth and fine, practically melting in your mouth without the crunchy ice bits you usually get elsewhere. It reminded me of my favorite spot in Hawaii. They have lots of flavor and topping options, reasonable prices, and good portion sizes without being overly huge. Purple Penguin has been a Las Vegas summer staple for almost a decade (maybe longer). I remember when they served their snow cones out of a food truck. Admittedly it has been while since I had a Purple Penguin snow cone, but I had to check out their location on Water Street this summer. The people working the register were very friendly and the support staff in the back was actively cleaning in the background. I ordered at the window but could see how clean and organized everything was, which is good to know when ordering a food product. They have the largest variety of snow cone flavors I have ever seen. So impressed with the flavor varieties at PP. it's definitely the most extensive list of flavors I've seen in Hawaii or CA. The workers are so good they provided amazingly fast service. We got there at 6:45pm and by 7pm, there's a rush of ppl who was trying to enjoy some cool treats on a hot day before PP closed at 8pm. Workers served up the snow cones and ice cream fast and with a smile. I saw it and appreciated that. We did 3 different snow cones with a variety of flavors and we enjoyed them very much. Recently found this shop while looking for a spot to take my kids. Been here twice and will continue to come back, my kids really like the ice cream and snow cones here. I asked if they wanted to get ice cream and they said yes as long as we came here. It's a Cute little shop, always clean and the employees are friendly. Jasmine and Jacob are awesome, they're a big reason we will keep coming back. They were so nice and just gave us such great service, if they haven't gotten a raise recently they definitely should because they totally deserve it. Hard to find great employees and this shop definitely has them. The ice cream is really good too, my favorite so far is the sea salt caramel and the cookies and cream, look forward to trying the rest of what they have. read more

I've been going to the Purple Penguin since they had a trailer in parking lots around Las Vegas. It's one of my favorite places to get a shaved ice from. I had no idea they had a storefront and I stumbled upon it while attending the Arts Festival off Water Street in downtown Henderson. It's a small space and there is no seating available inside. There are some areas to sit at outside. The service is quick and friendly and all of the workers are upbeat and are happy to help. They have a pretty extensive menu and have some rotating specials. They also have ice cream if snow cones aren't your thing. The snow cones are full of flavor and they are generous with the syrup. They also offer a punch card if you frequent them. Purple Penguin is a great stop for a treat if you're on Water Street and is worth the drive if you aren't in the area. read more

Took our seven year old here for the first time today. He had never had a snowcone and wanted to try one. The place is located on Water Street and easily accessible. The shop lives up to its name, it's all different shades of purple. Their menu is extensive with all the flavor options. Tommy decided on a snowcone with root beer, tigers blood and lemonade. Very interesting combo but he really enjoyed it. I got their root beer flavor with soft serve added in. It reminded me of Italian ices I got when I was a kid. The root beer flavor was great and the creaminess of the soft serve complimented it really well. My husband got their dole whip. Which was light and tangy. The girl behind the counter was super friendly and also put the snowcone in a bigger cup for our son so it wouldn't make a mess. I thought it was super thoughtful of her. Everything was really good. I was not a fan of shaved ice until I visited Purple Penguin! I'm used to establishments offering snow cones with large pieces of crushed ice that takes away from the flavoring. Purple Penguin however offered a very nicely shaved ice which was very easy and convenient to consume. I tried a combination of banana and cheesecake and it was so much better than expected. My boyfriend and I love Purple Penguin's snow cones and we were very disappointed to learn that they decided to close their shacks, which could be found in various gas station parking lots. :( Thankfully, though, we just found out that they have their own little shop on Water Street, which is open all year long! Here, unlike their gas station shacks, they don't just sell snow cones, but they sell ice cream and dole whip as well. With the weather getting warmer, we decided to come here for a little treat after dinner. We walked inside and it was BOILING in there, like their AC wasn't functioning properly. Holy cow! I actually had to take my sweater off upon entering the building (it was around 72 outside but it felt like 95 inside). I ordered a large blue raspberry snow cone (which I order every time I come to Purple Penguin) and my boyfriend ordered a cherry vanilla ice cream in a pink sugar cone, which was PACKED with cherries. He had so many ice cream scoops that he asked the lady working behind the counter for a small cup. He was actually lucky to ask for one, because right when he said that, one of his scoops fell onto the counter haha. We sat outside because of how hot it was inside. They have two tables inside and one table outside as far as I know, with numerous benches all around. I also realized, after coming out with our snow cone and ice cream, they have a little walk-up window around the corner! My snow cone was spot on, as always, and my boyfriend, who's not really a sweet tooth kind of guy, said that his ice cream was delicious and probably one of the best ice cream flavors he's had. If we ever have an excuse to come to Water Street again, we'll be back at Purple Penguin! read more

Came to purple penguin because there's really no other place in town that has vanilla snow ones with condensed milk! The staff were friendly and even offered us a stamp card for our 10th snowcone to be free. They were really fast although it was busier.
