My husband and I are slowly making our way to all the creamy whips in the Cincinnati area. Most recently we stopped by Don's and it was great! This is a larger creamy whip compared to many others. It's in the Reading area. There is a good amount of parking and lots of picnic tables. I had a Reese's Whipper (their Blizzard, Flurry, etc.). It was delicious! The soft serve had a superb, creamy consistency (not at all icy), and there was a great Reese's to ice cream ratio. My husband had his typical twist cone in rainbow sprinkles. Another winner for sure. Next time we're in Reading on a hot day we'll be stopping by Don's for sure! read more

We enjoyed walked from Koenig Park in Reading to Don's Creamy Whip for a treat on a hot day! They have an easy walk-up ordering window and some picnic tables with umbrellas for shade (even some kid picnic tables!) for plenty of seating when you get your ice cream. The menu is pretty extensive here. They have everything from pretzel bites and mini donuts to cones, malts, sundaes, etc. Seems like pretty much everything you could want when it comes to ice cream. I did notice some dairy free options (sorbet soft serve) and lots of gluten free options. My husband got the turtle sundae and loved it, and my sister got a mint cookies and cream shake. Everything came out quickly and correctly. I got the blueberry/vanilla soft serve and I thought it was just okay; the flavors were a little artificial tasting but some may like it like that... it melted quickly but that probably had most to do with the heat of the day. I found myself wishing I would have gotten a shake cause it looked so good! The portion sizes were also quite large here. I'd definitely be happy with a small or even a mini with their treats. Don's is the best ice cream place in Reading. It sure looks like it judging by the line. This place was hopping that night. It has ice cream, cold drinks, and hot food. The outdoor seating area is bigger and better than many others. I had a watermelon slushie. It's about $2 for a medium. This is pretty large though. It seems to attract large crowds. The seating area is big enough to handle them. It also has many tables with umbrellas on the patio. This is a luxury which isn't seen at most other local ice cream places. i'm not sure what the problem was, but we had a terrible experience on Friday evening. my wife and her best friend grew up in Reading, and we thought we would come try out Don's for old time sake. i asked for a strawberry shake, we had an ice cream cone... dipped, and a ice cream slush. My shake was just strawberry flavored milk. no thickness at all. the ice cream slush made our friend start using her gag reflexes and she threw it away. the ice cream dip was fine. i'm wondering if the young ladies only know how to do ice cream. because there is no way they know how to do shakes. so if you go, may want to stick with the basic ice cream cone. read more

Came here a few weeks ago after dinner for a cherry dip top. Drove right past the place, but then circled back around and glad that I did. The prices were very reasonable as my cherry dip top was 2.25 and very good. The girls working were nice. Don's creamy whip is a 15 min drive for me, but I would and will make it again. A little hard to find at first. Thought it was actually on Reading Rd, but just a bit off Reading on a side street slightly hidden. Glad we found it! Nice new seating tables, some with umbrellas. Very good soft serve and high quality toppings. I had a zebra (chocolate/banana) yogurt strawberry sundae and it was very good (like a banana split which was what i wad going for) and the prices were reasonable. Worth the 15 min drive IMHO. Apparently a known Evendale hotspot for cold treats. My roommates family lives up here, and they treated to a round of frozen snacks. The specialty seems to be soft-serve (which tastes very good for soft-serve) that is inverted and dipped in chocolate or peanut butter sauce to encase it in a hardened shell of candied delight. I also had a strawberry malt. They were extremely generous with the malt powder, which was a bit grainy (perhaps not fully Creamy Whipped?) but it had real strawberry chunks, which can be a rarity these days in the ice cream joint industry.
