Full review: I really wanted to love this place since it looks so peaceful and nice. However, once I took a class here, I went months without going to any other pilates class anywhere. I am still a beginner and learning the ropes but had already been to several classes at other places. After going to a class here, I felt embarrassed for even trying to get into Pilates. During the class the feeling kept increasing and the instructor wasn't truly reassuring, seemed almost annoyed even. At the end she recommended private classes which kind of topped it all off and made me take a break from boutique gyms in general. Not sure if it was a sales strategy or just how they are, but unfortunately this studio was not an encouraging place for beginners.

Our instructor, Hailey, was energetic and friendly, demonstrating moves and checking on us as needed. There was a very low-pressure environment even for newbies, which made it fun :) The room looked pretty cramped when I walked in but once I was on the mats / machines, it didn't feel claustrophobic at all. (Although don't get the spot near the wall, because my right arm didn't have enough space to extend out during certain stretches, but not a deal breaker!) The person using the machine before me didn't wipe down very thoroughly so there was a big oily spot that was a little yucky to work out on. I didn't know there was a spray bottle to use below the machine until we were done and asked to wipe down. Having the instructors or staff do a quick visual on each machine to ensure it is (or at least looks) clean might be nice. Other classes like mat Pilates and hot sculpt / hot lift Pilates are available too ($33-44 per class). Parking is free in the lot but it fills up so you might have to sit and wait for spots. Trying Cadillac was fun-- I'm planning to return and try another class when I feel like splurging!

She really explained each workout thoroughly and helped me with my form/balance on some of the exercises. I really liked that everyone was very inviting and the space is kept clean and organized. This class was for all levels and you can change the weights on the reformer if you would like to have more of a challenge during your workout. Since it was my first time, I kept the recommended weight and I feel like some workouts were more difficult to do than others. I think this class was a good workout to do to stay active! I get the hype of pilates now and might try it again sometime! The only con of this place is unfortunately the parking but that's with most places in Houston. The parking lot is shared with multiple businesses that reserve their spots only for their shop. There is parking that is not reserved for anything but the spots are very tight. There is also parking on the side of Defy but it is a little tricky in finding out how to get to the spot. I was able to find a spot in the parking lot but my friend had to park on the side. When I checked in, the ladies at the front were able to give me directions for my friend so that she can find how to get to the parking so just ask beforehand! We (my sister, friend and I) bought this deal on Groupon - unlimited 30Xpress classes for $19. Whoa! Considering that it normally costs $280+ for the same classes, what a steal! Like the old saying "If it sounds too good to be true, it is." I agree. The management's communication (lack thereof) was jaw-dropping. We were able to work a deal with Renee, one of the awesome managers, so we can continue after the Groupon deal ended. First week into the newly paid verbal contract, which is considered valid in Texas, Dawn, one of the owners, called to inform that the deal was not valid and that they were not going to "eat the cost" since the deal was undervalued. A management staff member accepted the negotiated pricing and accepted payment for said service, yet she is calling us out implying that we were essentially "taking" sessions not paid for. After, the LOUD and heated conversation she had with my sister on the phone, which can be heard easily by anyone more than a few feet away, was very unprofessional. Why is she arguing and putting the blame on the client? Then, she informed us she would not give us a refund, SERVICES WERE NOT RENDERED, one week after the deal was made. We agreed that we would break the amount paid into weekly portions and pay that portion accordingly; she vehemently disagreed until she talked to her husband. She called a short time later after her husband agreed to offer the full refund and a week free of training. We contemplated going since the ordeal with the management made it uncomfortable but the trainers are awesome. Several days later, we went. Day 1, Boxing trainer, Vincent, was no longer an employee, so we can only work out with the other trainer, Terrence. Management did not inform that the trainer would be let go, so they agreed to bring him back so we can train with him for the week. We greatly appreciated that, especially when an employee called the evening before to ensure our schedule would remain the same as previously taken. Results: Trainers - awesome! Management - fail!

However, I drive 15 miles only to have the instructor not show up. This class is only an hour long and was supposed to start at 8:30am and there were 5 of us waiting outside until around 9am. There was no note on the door or a response from either of the 2 phone numbers posted on the front of the door. I called the main phone number only to have an answering service take my name and number and tell me that some one will return my call. One of the gentleman waiting with us mentioned that the same thing happened to the Tuesday class and the instructor was a no show and they still have not heard back from the studio as to the reason for it. Their website requires a 24 hour advance notice for any cancelation. How about extending that courtesy to us too?

I was on a machine that…read morehas multiple workouts taking one minute breaks (timed) in between my sets when a lady who had been taking up 3 machines at a time asked to rotate with me in between switching machines. I was sweaty and do not like sharing sweaty seats with strangers (I clean the machine before and after to avoid sharing sweat), plus I had seen her hog multiple machines at once. I told her no and she was incredibly entitled and rude. She then went to go get Ricky to get me to rotate with her and he was accusatory from the start. He immediately went to a "I'm the boss" mentality and told me that I need to be more respectful to the lady without even bothering to understand the situation. He escalated the situation immediately while being ignorant to what was going on. As manager, I would expect him to at least try to deescalate matters before picking sides. Instead, he tried to tell me what to do and say, when it was the other party who had been rude to me from the start. I got his name and as I was leaving he was yelling stuff at me about how I needed to act. I do not appreciate such false and inappropriate statements being publicized to the rest of the members and staff. Ricky needs to be retrained on basic client treatment. Truly baffled that such a boorish and tactless man is in management. CLIENTS BEWARE, this is the man that the owners refer you to when you have a complaint.
