Response from owner regarding my mistreatment by a trainer named Judy at the MAC

TLDR the owner of the MAC (Dave Cardone) allowed an employee to disrespect and mistreat a customer and get away with it. I've been a member since early 2024 and admire the friendly members and staff here. I want to clarify that the mistreatment and disrespect I received were solely from an employee named Judy. The incident: I placed my bag on a leg machine and walked to a nearby cleaning station to grab some wipes (I took less than 30 seconds). When walking back with wipes in hand, I ended up behind Judy (a MAC trainer) and her client who were leaving a nearby machine and were approaching the leg machine I was going to use. As I started to let them know I was using the machine, Judy cuts me off and aggressively said "I need to get him on this machine". She grabbed my bag that was ON the machine and tossed it aside. Her client proceeded to get on the machine, and both continued with their conversations disregarding me. I went to find my fiancée and told him what happened. After seeing how shaken up I was, he decided to go over to Judy to try and understand why she treated me this way. We thought maybe there was a rule we were unaware of where trainers get priority. When we asked Judy if there was such a rule, she responded with an attitude telling us no and claimed that I was never on the machine so they had the right to use it. I told her I walked away briefly to grab some wipes for this machine, and my bag that she picked up and tossed (without once looking around to see if anyone was using this machine) was on it. Judy and her client kept disagreeing with us and were annoyed with me and my fiancé for speaking to them and disrupting their session. Judy then attempted to end our conversation by shrugging her shoulders and said "oh well, sorry". This was when our conversation escalated and a couple of people around us started becoming aware of our interaction. Her client aggressively called out to my fiancée "you weren't even here to be talking about what we did to her". That's when my fiancé became frustrated by how dismissive and disrespectful they've been treating us and responded back with the same manner they gave us and called him a fat f**k. The client then threatened him to go downstairs which we were planning to do to speak to a manager about the incident. They didn't join us downstairs, but we reported the incident to the workers and my fiancée also apologized for partaking in causing a scene. The workers were apologetic of how we were treated and understood that it wasn't only our fault for how loud the incident ended up escalating. However, when the owner came down to hear my report, he briefly acknowledge how I was treated and said he would look into it. My fiancé also apologized multiple times to the owner and even offered to apologize to the member, but never once were we offered an apology from Judy. Throughout our conversation the owner was more concerned about my fiancé's name calling, saying that he "verbally assaulted" him and that's when he also mentioned the member had a physical disability (which we were not initially aware of). We clarified to him that it was not our intention to disrespect anyone, but the way they initially disrespected me and continued to disrespect us when we calmly tried to talk to them caused my fiancé to react out of character. The owner stated that they do not have cameras in the area we were in, but he would look into this. Days later we received the attached email from him. Despite us informing the owner multiple times that my bag was there and I had just walked away for not even a minute to grab wipes, Judy's dismissive manner including tossing my bag was "a simple miscommunication". Despite us informing the owner we DID try to have a simple conversation by initially speaking to her and her client calmly, but was responded with aggression and a dismissive attitude, the owner justified their behavior as "a simple miscommunication". I'm sharing my experience to transparently show how poorly the owner handled this situation as it is NOT reflective of providing a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

For me, this gym is excellent. Many classes are included for an excellent price, and the trainers are some of the best.

I was a member here for less than 6 months. In that time frame, there were TWO incidents of gun violence as a result of fights on the basketball court. What did management do? Shut the court down for ONE week before being told by higher ups they had to re-open it! Can you say "Potential Lawsuit"? The equipment is old with rust on ALL of the cables as well as the plates. They only have TWO leg extensions and TWO leg curl machines and they're ALWAYS taken no matter what time you go. The free weight area LITERALLY smells like a urinal that hasn't been flushed in days. The studio floor is constantly filthy with sweat and hair and they can't seem to make up their mind about turning the AC on or off in the room. Groups of high school kids literally stand around talking and blocking walking areas or sit on equipment while talking/texting on their phones or they think it's fun to horseplay next to people who are lifting. This used to be a nice facility. However it's become clear that the corporate office doesn't give a shit about taking care of it, which should explain to the why they're losing members to other clubs like Crunch and EOS. Unless you don't care about actually working out, or you want to become a potential victim of gun violence due to some low IQ individuals that frequent the basketball court, do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place.

There was a time I truly looked forward to coming here, but lately, that feeling has shifted. Earlier this year (around February or March), there was an incident where a man entered the women's locker room - far enough in that it was clearly not an accident. I reported it immediately to staff, but I never received any follow-up, which felt unsettling, especially given how tucked away the women's locker room is from the men's. Additionally, the equipment at this location feels outdated compared to other clubs. There are frequent maintenance issues, and the overall layout doesn't seem optimized for peak times. If you're hoping to train legs for example between 4-7 PM Monday through Wednesday, be prepared to wait - often long - for machines or platforms etc. Interuptions during your sets are the norm. Even gyms with a significantly lower price point, like EOS and planet fitness, have more versatile equipment (e.g., a dual abductor/adductor machine), which could be a worthwhile upgrade here. Crowding has also become a major issue. Over the past couple of months, the gym has felt consistently packed regardless of the time of day. If there's a new sign-up promotion running, it may be worth re-evaluating how it's impacting existing members. It's incredibly difficult to follow a structured workout when you have to constantly rearrange your routine just to get access to equipment (if you're lucky). Parking has also become a huge deterrent and adds another layer of stress to each visit. The class schedule is not great either, as a yogi, i rarely have the opportunity to attend a class, and wish they had AM sessions available. Pickleball courts are fresh and new, but are first come first serve, and since they have been installed, have not had a chance to use them, due to strenuous wait times. Not to mention the amount of people who walk around with tripods at peak times recording, hence why i pay the fees to not be around people recording.. While I appreciate the under-26 discount, which brings the monthly cost down to around $220, I'm beginning to question whether the value is still there. I would really encourage management to consider updating equipment and rethinking capacity management - especially at peak hours. It's difficult to understand how this location is being ran when other nearby locations offer a much better experience for a similar price point. The one thing they do right is customer experience. I always enjoy getting to speak with the front desk staff and trainers. I really hope this feedback is taken into consideration for improvements, and helps out anyone who is considering spending $3000 a year to work out here.
