I have been a member RICK Memorial Athletic Club since about 1998. I am 100% disabled veteran and credit my ability to exercise at MAC. With helping me handle my disabilities and keep my diabetes and check. The staff is very friendly and willing to provide instruction on machines you might not know and they go out of their way to ensure everything is in order. They continually clean the equipment, keep everything organized and put back in place. After Covid, they enhance the systems in place with HEPA filters and plenty of cleaning stations. read more

I absolutely love Memorial Athletic Club! The atmosphere is so welcoming and everyone is super friendly. I go almost every day for Training for Warriors with Jeff, he's an exceptional coach who really motivates you (and Lex). TLDR the owner of the MAC (Dave Cardone) allowed an employee to disrespect and mistreat a customer and get away with it. I've been a member since early 2024 and admire the friendly members and staff here. I want to clarify that the mistreatment and disrespect I received were solely from an employee named Judy. The incident: I placed my bag on a leg machine and walked to a nearby cleaning station to grab some wipes (I took less than 30 seconds). When walking back with wipes in hand, I ended up behind Judy (a MAC trainer) and her client who were leaving a nearby machine and were approaching the leg machine I was going to use. As I started to let them know I was using the machine, Judy cuts me off and aggressively said "I need to get him on this machine". She grabbed my bag that was ON the machine and tossed it aside. Her client proceeded to get on the machine, and both continued with their conversations disregarding me. I went to find my fiancée and told him what happened. After seeing how shaken up I was, he decided to go over to Judy to try and understand why she treated me this way. We thought maybe there was a rule we were unaware of where trainers get priority. When we asked Judy if there was such a rule, she responded with an attitude telling us no and claimed that I was never on the machine so they had the right to use it. I told her I walked away briefly to grab some wipes for this machine, and my bag that she picked up and tossed (without once looking around to see if anyone was using this machine) was on it. Judy and her client kept disagreeing with us and were annoyed with me and my fiancé for speaking to them and disrupting their session. Judy then attempted to end our conversation by shrugging her shoulders and said "oh well, sorry". This was when our conversation escalated and a couple of people around us started becoming aware of our interaction. Her client aggressively called out to my fiancée "you weren't even here to be talking about what we did to her". That's when my fiancé became frustrated by how dismissive and disrespectful they've been treating us and responded back with the same manner they gave us and called him a fat f**k. The client then threatened him to go downstairs which we were planning to do to speak to a manager about the incident. They didn't join us downstairs, but we reported the incident to the workers and my fiancée also apologized for partaking in causing a scene. The workers were apologetic of how we were treated and understood that it wasn't only our fault for how loud the incident ended up escalating. However, when the owner came down to hear my report, he briefly acknowledge how I was treated and said he would look into it. My fiancé also apologized multiple times to the owner and even offered to apologize to the member, but never once were we offered an apology from Judy. Throughout our conversation the owner was more concerned about my fiancé's name calling, saying that he "verbally assaulted" him and that's when he also mentioned the member had a physical disability (which we were not initially aware of). We clarified to him that it was not our intention to disrespect anyone, but the way they initially disrespected me and continued to disrespect us when we calmly tried to talk to them caused my fiancé to react out of character. The owner stated that they do not have cameras in the area we were in, but he would look into this. Days later we received the attached email from him. Despite us informing the owner multiple times that my bag was there and I had just walked away for not even a minute to grab wipes, Judy's dismissive manner including tossing my bag was "a simple miscommunication". Despite us informing the owner we DID try to have a simple conversation by initially speaking to her and her client calmly, but was responded with aggression and a dismissive attitude, the owner justified their behavior as "a simple miscommunication". I'm sharing my experience to transparently show how poorly the owner handled this situation as it is NOT reflective of providing a safe and respectful environment for everyone. read more

The attention to cleanliness is like a hospital. They invest in new equipment constantly. The front desk is friendly and helpful. The instructors and trainers have decades of experience, training and certifications. The members are devoted to their routines creating a healthy state of well being to promote longevity ! The MAC is family friendly and great for everyone. It doesn't matter if you are 5 or 99! The Training for Warriors program is great, you can adapt to your level, but do expect to work hard. The Parisi program is a great youth program and the strength teens gain working out in a safe is awesome! The upstairs gym is busy at peak times but you can find a machine, and there is a good variety. When my kids were younger they enjoyed the kids club, now they workout! read more

This place is incredible. Not only the best value for your dollar but actually the best place for all your fitness needs. Personal improvements, family activities, group training, individual training, kids' programs, young athlete programs, etc. This place is hard to describe as they have developed something special for decades in an industry that makes you feel like you are a commodity. I've never been much of a gym person but after loosing my love for running (I was that actual person who ran one marathon and went "yeah this is really terrible") I knew I needed to find a new form of exercise for both my physical health as well as my mental health. Living in the energy corridor I had a lot of different options but I did not want a cookie cutter gym, I wanted somewhere that I could belong, somewhere that I felt the staff would get to know me and not judge me if- and when- I did something wrong. Plus I wanted classes- I LOVE group exercise classes cause I have no idea what to do on my own. So I took my then boyfriend and we went to MAC. We really found it to be a welcoming place. It is not the cheapest around but one thing I have learned is that I would always rather have quality in the things that affect my overall well being. I have made friends at this gym, I have been through Harvey and road construction with this gym and I always felt valued as a member. I've been kept in the loop- they do a fantastic job of hosting different types of events and keeping their social media up to date. And now through what is proving to be one of the most interesting events to happen they continue to show their dedication to members by offering youtube classes and free virtual classes. Every day they are posting and making sure there is something to do and a way to get a workout in even at home. This is far more than a gym but truly also a community and a family. read more

Been coming here every day for a year after I moved from Katy. I'm a 5:00am workout guy and Jake and Christina are always are welcoming (they should get a raise). Love this place! Not necessarily the nicest or newest, but everyone is extremely nice & I LOVE the kids club. It's always very well staffed and everyone is super attentive. They accept 3 month olds (most gyms start at 6 months old) so it's been extremely helpful getting my post baby body back. read more

The workout facility is very nice and definitely has that old club appeal. Only drawback is the swimming pool. If you're NOT in the Masters Swim and you want to swim laps before work, this is not the place for you. Their Masters Program will take up most, if not all, lanes during their training time, which coincides with a working professional's available training time. read more

Not your big box gym. I joined on a whim, not sure what to expect. I had memberships at Life Time Fitness, Fit, Athletic Club, and L.A. Fitness. The level of customer service at MAC is unmatched. Welcoming environment and you won't find half-naked beings playing around with gym equipment in an obvious peacock mating ritual. I originally joined the MAC in Women's center, but the main center is included in the membership. Childcare is provided. The group classes allow you to find your favorite activity nearly on the hour. I tried Deby's yoga class and it is amazing. She uses lavender aromatherapy. I love lavender. Clean and sterile facility as you would want except. read more

This review is for the swimming lessons. I'm a terrible swimmer, so I signed up for a novice class at 8pm. It's perfect! The swimming pool is kept at 88 degrees in winter, perfect for people that get cold easily. The instructor is an old lady that really knows her stuff, very patient and empathetic but with really good techniques. And the class ratio is 2 to 1, pretty amazing. The rest of the gym is very old school, think wood paneling everywhere and lots of senior citizens, definitely a little depressing. Service is impeccable though, and there's plenty of lotion / hair spray / hair drying spots, so it depends on what you are looking for in a gym. Oh and I'm trying this gym out with their one month free membership in the mail, definitely a good thing. read more

Definitely a family environment, gym attendees wear modest gym wear. The sense of community presented itself from the first visit. Your membership includes access to Memorial Athletic and Memorial Athletic for Women. The facility underwent renovations and upgraded equipment. I use machines for strength training (because of back issues that I cannot afford to exacerbate with free weights), I prefer the strength machines at MAC for Women. I especially love the repetition-counting machines which Lori's Beginner yoga is not necessarily for beginners. I am not a yoga guru enough to determine the style of yoga, the website describes this as Hatha yoga. I sharing the practice but I really hoped for basic yoga instruction as I want to deepen my yoga practice and the yoga studios I joined do not offer specific beginners classes frequently enough. Many free activities for children including childcare without the typical surcharge. I originally joined the MAC in Women's center, but the main center is included in the membership. Really really impressed by this place. We came here to possibly join as well as enroll my daughter in swim lessons. Immediately we were greeted and took a tour. The pools are huge and heated as well as they have so many classes for your toddlers to senior citizens. Importantly they have Zumba, racketball, swimming and child care. I am in and we signed up that day. I would have given them 5 stars if they stayed open later, but at the end of the day its clean, safe, and has everything you need. read more

I am a disabled vet and started at MAC around 1999 to get in shape for a Knee replacement. Jeff was my trainer at the time and he took someone who had not exercised in many years because of the disabilities and not only helped me gain strength for the operation, but also taught me the importance of regular exercise and made a big difference in my life. Since that time I have had back issues and a hip replacement from the disabilities and become diabetic. MAC has been my gym ever since. The equipment is well kept, replaced when necessary and new techniques are always introduced. The personnel are caring, considerate and knowledgeable. During this COVID 19 crisis, they have gone above and beyond to make changes to protect the patrons. I offer them my greatest thanks and deepest appreciation for providing the service and facilities that they do. read more

I've had a family membership here for many years. It is a well run gym with lots of exercise and yoga classes. A full range of classes and class schedules. I can also attend MAC for women if there is a class there I want to take, including Pilates. The gym is always being tweaked for improvement and the pools are clean. It's a great family environment with kid care. I haven't used that aspect of the business. The attendants at the desk and on the gym floor are always helpful. I highly recommend this gym. read more

Great gym! I like the Zumba classes and other options for strength-training. The cardio equip is always clean and working properly. The lockeroom is nice, there's always clean towels and plenty of staff. It's great to be a part of a gym with so many country-club characteristics. Ooh! It's also kept very cool which makes a hard-core sweat fest so much easier (and desirable). The parking is packed so your workout begins as you leave the car. The layout is fun and different and a variety of people workout there. I don't feel intimidated or like its a skin show. No long term membership, it's month to month. Love this neighborhood gym. My husband and I have worked out at Lifetime and LA Fitness and we were tired of the big box gym feel (and tired of paying crazy high prices at Lifetime!) So, we joined the MAC. It has a great neighborhood feel which we love. The classes are AWESOME and childcare is included in your membership! Plus they offer swimming lessons for kids and all sorts of summer activities. Great place to workout with teachers and trainers who are all committed to fitness and your succeess. read more
