Found this place by chance as we were walking around Quebec. Our party was 5 adults and 1 toddler. I had low expectations as this place looked more like a bar than a restaurant. We were seated upstairs for our meal. The place is cozy and has a nice view. The server was friendly and attentive. I ordered the cassoulet and was not disappointed. The only thing I would say is that the beans could have been cooked just a little longer (they had a bit too much of a bite for my taste), but the flavor was excellent! Two others had the pork burgers which were tasty, and the fries were cooked nice and crispy, and another had the mac and cheese dish which was also seasoned well and very creamy. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food here and will be saving this place to my list if I'm ever back in the area. Would definitely recommend! read more

The temptation here is to think that any pub in old town Quebec will be a tourist trap. Yet places like Q de Sac prove me wrong. I swung by here for poutine (what else?) and beer, and was impressed by how local the place appeared. Except I got the sense it wasn't just appearances, but this is a place actual Quebec residents hang out in. There is no mistaking the Canadian flavor, and they do us all a favor by having real flames present, which in snowy season is so nice. Great beer selection. Comfort food. Wood interior. Hockey on the t.v. About the only thing that would have made me like this place more would have been that they brew their own beers, and had something other than hockey on, especially with March Madness going on. I didn't like the maple lemon sauce that came with the onion rings although it kept with the Québéc theme way too sweet for onion rings but the calamari "chili mayo" went great with our rings. Our hotel staff recommended this place because we were looking for a casual place close by. It really is a pub with TVs inside to watch the games. Outside in the cul de sac are tables. The staff is lukewarm with only 2 waitstaff to handle the crowd. They automatically added 13% service charge to the bill. It is the only restaurant we encountered in Quebec who did that. I can understand for parties of 5-6 or more but unusual for parties of 2 without being transparent about it. It wasn't on the menu or posted anywhere. Hubby tried one of the ales which I thought was bitter. We dined on appetizers. The 5 duck legs were the best of the group as they were slightly crispy. The fried calamari and onion rings were oily and I wouldn't order again. We have had better. The beef tartare which seems to be popular in Quebec was so-so. There area thousand restaurants in Wuebec City, and we ended up at Q de Sac because my family rejected The our first two options. And because of that, we hit the jackpot! The food here is creative and amazing. Even the Canadian staple poutine was two cuts above the usual. The nenu is full of what sounds like comfort food, but it is all done with a special flare. The waiter had the audacity to demand a 15% tip, underlining it on the receipt even though it is not even mandatory to tip here- especially if the service is such an utter failure. He proceeded to ask us if we were paying the tip in cash, while he just stood around us watching...which was the best service effort he gave the entire night. I was out with a group of 10 on a Saturday night and we had a really hard time finding a place to park and grab a drink before our dinner reservations. Thankfully the staff was able to assemble a few tables together and have us sit outside and enjoy the Saturday evening air. It would occasionally drizzle but there were tons of umbrellas covering the table fully so we were not worried. There was a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available- one of my friends doesn't drink and she had a bunch of non-alcoholic drinks to choose from which is actually pretty rare. This was a great spot in lower old town QC. We dined outside in the lovely summer weather and enjoyed some interesting people watching along with our delicious food and drink! I ordered the best bowl of french onion soup I've ever had, along with a delicious cheese plate. My husband had the steak tartare, which he hasn't stopped talking about since. He also ordered the sausage; but the reviews were mixed on this dish. He'd expected a spicy sausage, perhaps sliced, but what arrived was more like an American corndog than anything else. The meat was not spicy and the batter was slightly sweet. It was not at all bad, just not what he wanted. To top it off, they had a great selection of craft beers and iced cider. We bailed from L'oncle Antoine's when it was invaded by a tour bus. It was pouring rain, and we found Q de Sac's patio and restaurant completely unoccupied. The patio is fully covered by a giant awning. Cold and chilly out, but we figured it would be good people watching. The bartender turns out to be the proprietor, Andrew Murphy. No one was in the restaurant so he waited on us personally. Even though it was early they were alright with us ordering an appetizer off the dinner menu. We got a beautiful cheese platter, Trois fromages d'ici, chèvre, bleu et vache, and Andrew explained about where the We ordered a pitcher of red sangria with orange juice - it came without being mixed together so we got to swirl it about and it was beautiful. Watching the pouring rain and the tourists scuttling about, enjoying the time, it was a great way to spend a rainy day. The only thing that would have made it better would have been a fire or one of the heating torches being on. Had I not just had lunch around the corner I would have ordered something hot - like the french onion soup that everyone in the reviews mentions they enjoyed. Great food! Great service. I ordered the Caesar salad and it had herring in it. Amazing but definitely fishy. I'm into that. We also ordered the pizza and that was great. Our friends loved what they ordered. My friend said the burger was the best burger he ever had and even said he would be willing to drive 8 hours across the boarder for it once a week.
