I found Fire & Ice Restaurant & Bar on Yelp! and decided to give it a try. Jordan seated me and was also my waiter. He was professional and attentive, which was much appreciated. They have a limited menu, but the Mediterranean Grilled Chicken Pasta seemed like a good option. Boy was I RIGHT! This was a very flavorful and somewhat healthy dish that hit the spot. The location is a bit odd. It's located in a hotel that's in an area with a guarded gate. The restaurant is right next to an outdoor pool, with lots of glass. Some guy in just his swimsuit was peering through the glass door near my table, which was a bit awkward. Also there was a large crowd right behind me that was very loud, which also was not ideal. Service and food were excellent; Location not so much.

I have visited this place several times now and always been impressed... until tonight…read more It was a Saturday night. It was 8pm, 2 hours before closing and an hour before the kitchen closed. We were promptly greeted and seated as always. We were then immediately greeted by the server, Austin, who made it very clear his mission was to get us in and out promptly. He immediately asks if we knew what we wanted to drink. Mind you we literally just sat down. I told him we would look at the menu but we'd like some bread and oil to start with. He came back for our drink order after just a minute or two and then immediately asked for our food order. Mind you we haven't even hit the 5-6 min mark yet. It was quite clear we were being rushed. So we hurried and gave him our food order. But because I was already perturbed, no drinks were ordered. Now mind you I almost always get a bottle or two of wine. (one of the main reasons we go there is the wine selection) Our server Austin returned after about five minutes with our food. Getting our food so quickly was a surprise. However, still no bread and oil so I reminded him. Which he admitted he forgot. The food was lukewarm at best and had no flavor. We waited for a few minutes for Austin to return so we could ask for salt and Pepper only for him "this time" to suddenly disappear. So I got up and asked the bartenders for salt and pepper. The food was bland and the serving size was half of what we usually get there. When Austin finally returned with the bread and oil, the bread was cold. No attempt at heating it or toasting it. It was literally a roll of French bread, cut into slices, and then some oil thrown in. We were hungry so we ate our dinners. Austin returned as soon as he saw we were done eating to take our plates and asked if we would like any desserts. I made a comment. I don't want any desserts if they taste like our dinner. He then grabbed our plates and walked away, staring at me the entire time. He then immediately brought our tab, which was $79 for two plates of half full pasta dishes, one iced tea and a cold French bread. I have been there several times before to where the service was outstanding, the food delicious, and the atmosphere great. But this was quite disheartening especially at being a Saturday night. I almost always order a bottle or two of wine plus an after dinner cocktail. Because of the way I was made to feel and how bad the food was. I decided not to stay and left almost immediately after my dinner. Especially since it was made so clear we weren't necessarily welcomed to stay. One thing I've always found kind of catchy about the place. Is they serve your water in old retired liquor glasses. Both glasses of water they brought still had the sticky residue left on them. Which was more of an agitation after the night we had. Again, overall, the previous experiences will allow me to go back again. But this experience needed to be heard.

Our server Austin was very unprofessional. The food was inedible. Definitely won't be going back.read more

We made a birthday reservation for a busy Friday night with no problem. we had been to the…read morerestaurant numerous times over the past couple decades and always had a good experience. However, this time the service and the food quality stood out tremendously! Our host greeted us very promptly and brought us to our beautiful table that was adorned with a candelabra with at least five real candles a lit. We were immediately offered some complementary house champagne, which was nice. The menu was extensive on offering very fine foods. However, my wife pointed out for somebody who's a little bit pickier of an eater noticed there was no pasta offerings and only one chicken entrée which was not a problem and ended up being fantastic but a couple more options for picky eaters of non-steak varieties and fish varieties might not hurt. I always frequent this restaurant for the freshest oysters offered probably in the whole state of Missouri, and they never disappoint. Last night they had at least five varieties, including Blue points, petites, birthday girl, and other varieties from both the West Coast and the East Coast. I ordered two of everything and it was very fun to experiment with the differences of the oysters from both coasts, and I ended up becoming a big fan of east Coast Bluepoint oysters. However, they were all extremely fantastic and very fresh. The oyster shucker was extremely talented and preserved the liquid within the shells perfectly. I was unable to find one shelf fragment in any of my oysters, which is unbelievable. As my main course, I ordered nothing but appetizers because they all look fantastic. I ordered the steak tartare and the escargot and both were unbelievably good. The rest of my five table mates ordered their meals, ranging from fish to filet mignon, and they all raved about their food and finished their complete plates. I remember the food quality being good at this location in years past, but this time it really stood out and we now regard this as the best restaurant in Springfield, hands-down. The server Lily was extremely attentive and often had other servers assist with plate arrivals and clearing of the table very promptly. Lillie was probably one of the best servers. I've had a very long time. Don't skip out on dessert as the chocolate torte and the crème brûlée s'mores were both very fantastic offerings. I later met with the manager, Justin to complement his exceptional staff and food quality and let him know that we will be returning very very soon and more frequently in the future. Char Steakhouse by far exceeded my past expectations and is my pick for the best restaurant in Springfield. You won't be disappointed if you try it.

The first couple of visits were decent, but the service eventually went plummeting downhill. The ambiance and food is good, and it seems like a very calm space, but it is overall not worth feeling unwelcome and out-of-place. There is a reason why typical nights at another laid-back, 21+ bar (Flea, Grad School, etc.) is packed with people, while Mudlounge is usually at medium capacity at best. The consistent amount of different events at Mudlounge may be a sign that the business may need these events to get people to come to the bar. Maybe Mudlounge would not need so many events if the environment and staff weren't so inhospitable. The only reason why I would choose to come to Mudlounge over another bar is the availability of food, but after my last visit I would rather just eat at a place like Picklemans or Greek Belly (restaraunts that are right next door) before going out to a bar. It seems that many negative reviews of this business echo my same sentiments, showing that this is a consistent issue patrons experience and not just a negative one off. It is unfortunate that a prime downtown spot is being taken up by a bar that lacks the typical Missouri charm and hospitality seen in other businesses.
