Well, I don't know if it is the crowd we happened to walk into, or the place itself, but we had the best night ever here last night. I can't say anything wildly amazing happened, everyone was just so nice and fun! Typically when you walk into a "locals" bar you can feel heads turn, it wasn't the case here. This is like Patton Alley Pub Jr. In fact, they're right next to each other. The beer list shakes its fist at Patton Alley Pub, but Patton Alley Pub shakes a big ol' "we've got more space" fist right back. Skinny Slim's can pack up quickly. Because of the smaller venue, one-on-one time with the bartender is easier and they have hired quite a few people who actually give a damn about their clientele. Don't get me wrong, other bars COULD do this, but because other bars focus on capacity and hours-per-shift, they don't really get to have a chance to get to know their patrons. They don't have a huge tap selection, but what do you expect from a bar that's actually smaller than my apartment? They certainly make up for the weak tap selection with dozen of different bottles and a modest selection of quality liquors that are always on some kind of ridiculous (in a good way) happy hour. Shiiiit... I was able to get Bombay Saphire up with no vermouth for $4. The only place that does that is MudLounge. Touche, 'Slim's! My biggest complaint is noise and overcrowding. The open ceiling carries a conversation right out into the street in terms of noise and too many large parties of stationary drinkers flood the limited space as if 'Slim's is their own little spot. If you have a crew (or a herd if you're a chick), please don't clickity-clack your way into this place and take up the ONLY table in the joint. Its bad enough to be solo (like me) and try to weasel my way through guidos and sorority bitches to nab a seat at the bar between a cougar-on-the-prowl and a drunk douche who can't respectably keep his elbows from bumping into me. Funny story. The last douche who couldn't keep his elbows off of me later exchanged phone numbers with a friend. I overheard it and memorized it. Yeah, if you're reading this, I am the guy who posted a casual sex ad on Craigslist for m4m requesting penis pictures to your phone number. I'll do it again, too! I DON'T GIVE NO CARE! I'm a little let down with this place, though. With such a small bar, I would expect to have a small turnout. So, I go on nights I think won't be too terribly busy. To my dismay, I'll run into a Friday crowd on Tuesday! Oh well. I'll go back. Sometimes Patton Alley Pub is too crowded and wild for a one-man wolf pack, so Skinny Slim's comes to the rescue! There's no food besides a few glasses of barnuts, so it'll be up to you to put something in ya before you drink. The patrons are varied, ranging from quality intellectuals who brew their own beer to idiots who want to test the waters and crowd up the joint. read more

As far as little downtown bars go, this place is perfect. Great beer selection for this size of a bar. They probably have enough of a selection that at any point, each person in the bar could be drinking something different (60 person limit). The night i was there, Bella Donna was playing and it was amazing! What a great local band. Next time i am in town, this is my first stop. read more

This place was relatively empty at 10 on a Friday night and was an awesome place to start the night! It's super small, but really cool atmosphere inside. The have one long high top that easily sits a group of 10 or so plus some other seating besides the bar. The music was really good and our bartender was super nice - knowledgeable about all the beer and whiskey without being pretentious at all. Great place to go before or after dinner on a date night or with a group of friends. I definitely plan on becoming a regular. read more

Skinny Slim's is Springfield's best low-key chill spot for nights when glamor and prestige give way to having a quiet drink with friends. With very limited seating, some of the cheapest drink prices in town and decor that would not look out of place at a New England pub, it distinguishes itself from downtown's other offerings pretty effortlessly. But without question, my favorite part is the South Park pinball table that occupies the back corner of the second room. That and the giant Jenga game they recently added make this the perfect place to marinate in a little nostalgia, while also marinating your liver as you see fit. read more

Always my pub of choice when I lived in Springfield. They've renovated since then and brought in new staff, but it's still the same old place. A commitment to good beer and a good place to be. Slim's is the best bar in Springfield. It's the only downtown that isn't filled to the wall with college kids testing the limits of alcohol. The staff are very friendly as well. Cocktails are properly made, which is difficult to come by downtown. read more

This bar is the perfect combination of laid back and friendly. I wish I'd known about Skinny Slim's sooner before moving away from Springfield, I'd have gone there often. The vibe is the kind every bar should have, very chill and relaxed. It's small enough to be comfortable and not hectic but also a great place to meet up with friends and watch soccer.
