Stopped by Qamaria Coffee after passing it several times this week, and I'm glad I finally had the time to check it out. It's conveniently located near where I was staying, making it an easy stop to start the day. This is a Yemeni coffee house, which immediately sets it apart from your typical coffee spot. They don't serve traditional drip coffee--instead, the focus is on crafted drinks rooted in that style, with a wide variety of lattes and specialty beverages. I went with something simple--essentially an Americano with three shots and a splash of half and half--and it was perfect. Very smooth and well-balanced, exactly what I was looking for. The space itself is gorgeous. It feels more like walking into an art gallery than a coffee shop--large, open, high ceilings, beautiful decor, and a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. Their menu is full of unique options as well. The house specialty--a cardamom and cinnamon coffee--stood out right away and is already on my list for the next stop. I'm so glad I stopped by. It's tucked away in a commercial place so it's not easily identifiable. That didn't stop any efforts to get a good cup. The standout was the Turkish coffee. It's absolutely amazing. Very bold, and prepared with the kind of traditional care that you just don't find at your average coffee shop. I mean, between the fine tray and the presentation, it was a vibe. Their take on Turkish coffee is solid. It has a bit of spice and those deep earthy notes. Thick and aromatic. The Qamaria Latte was another banger. The combination of cinnamon and cardamom is incredible. It's warm to the soul and perfectly balanced. To top it all off, the atmosphere is welcoming and the service is great. The giant mural on the wall was cool. It's worth a stop! read more

Qamaria has been on my list for a long time and I finally stopped by on my way home from church Sunday! It was so busy, they let me know it would be a 15 minute wait for my latte once I ordered it. It's so beautiful inside of Qamaria! Very bright and spacious. Plenty of seating, tables, couches and high top long table up against one of the windows with bar stools. They have pastries, hot coffees, hot cocoa, iced coffees and smoothies. I ordered the Crème Brûlée Latte. I would say it was ok, it seemed watered down to me, but I will try again. Had a chance to finally visit & welcome another Yemeni coffee spot in the Triangle. Loved the overall decor. It was very spacious, and even had few indoor board & card games while you enjoyed your coffee / tea. Service was also great - all of our coffees were ready within 5 minutes. (hot) Adeni tea some time, but not only was that super awesome, but all the iced coffees were also great. Being s big fan of Adeni tea, I can easily say that they have the best one in Triangle area so far - Better than Haraz coffee. I also think their rates were comparatively better. However, the pastries or sweets options were limited. To sum it up, a great experience overall & will definitely recommend and visit again very soon! read more

Great place to work with really good lighting, nice seating, abundant parking, and quick WiFi. The Adeni chai at the normal sweetness is too bitter for my liking compared to the other Yemeni coffee shops I've been to (like Haraz). Unfortunately, I only could get through half of the drink as a result. If I come back again, would be down to try something else or maybe get it sweeter. Service was prompt! read more

Finally made it to Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co., tucked in at 2500 Meridian Parkway in Durham, right next to Tobacco Wood Brewing. The staff moved with care. Not showy, but in the way that shows up in small decisions, like how they walked us through the menu, or the attention visible in the way the pastries and drinks were handled. You notice that kind of thing. It either reads as genuine or it doesn't. Here it is absolutely genuine. The space earns accolades too. Floor-to-ceiling windows. Colors that feel warmly considered. A comfort that doesn't try too hard. You can sit there and actually settle. We'll be back. read more

I met three friends for coffee here today. It is a pretty and open space, so we had no trouble finding a table for four. I was disappointed that they don't have decaf coffee. The cashier offered to put "just one" shot of espresso in my drink lol. In this day and age, it seems odd to not offer decaf. I have pregnant friends, breastfeeding friends, friends on medications that don't work well with caffeine, and friends whose sleep is precious and impacted greatly by caffeine (this is me ‍). There were some hot chocolate options, and one friend ordered a pistachio steamer (and got a hot chocolate instead...womp). I opted for the "hibiscus refresher" that was clearly labeled caffeine-free. While it was fine, it was expensive for a basic iced tea. The brownie was tasty, but didn't feel worth $6.75. The staff seems bored and borderline unfriendly. I might go again if the location made sense for people I was meeting, but nothing about the place itself would draw me back. read more

Super excited to have tried this new spot. Middle Eastern vibes fill this place and you can tell the love and authenticity of the product and vibe. At the same time it presents a modern vibe which is perfect for hanging out. We got a Turkish coffee and a Shai Latte which were both delicious and not your typical drinks, you can tell they are infused with flavors from the Middle East. The staff were friendly and not rushing us to order. They do have some pastries for purchase. This place stays open late too so it'll be a nice late nice spot to hang out. Seen this cute little coffee shop and couldn't wait to try them. Plenty of free parking and it's so calm and relaxing inside. The tables are spacious and I didn't feel like it's too crowded. They have games for you to enjoy. They have tea, coffee and refreshers. They also have snacks for you to enjoy. I had the strawberry dragonfruit refresher and it was pretty tasty! Qamaria is the newest addition to Durham's bustling coffee shop scene! They specialize in Yemeni coffee, which has a long and rich history. I got the Pistachio Latte warm: it was comforting and great for a cold day, but I wasn't really able to distinguish much nuttiness from the pistachio. I think their sweet treats are sourced from La Recette Patisserie, a bakery that's been on my list to visit so it was nice to try some of their stuff first here. Ordered a Rosewater Milk Cake, which was aesthetic, had a strong floral essence, plus light and airy whipped cream frosting and sponge cake. However, $8 seems a bit steep for the portion size, and the cake itself was not completely soaked like I was expecting. They had accidentally given me the Rosewater Tea Cake originally, but when I pointed that out, they gave it to me on the house. I enjoyed the tea cake's dense and slightly gritty texture, which reminded me of an Indian dessert, but didn't really detect the rose flavor here. Ambiance is wonderful: very open and spacious, lots of seating, tons of natural light. There's free WiFi, so this is a good spot to hunker down and get work done. But it's also suitable for hangouts- they have a bunch of board games for play. Service was fast and friendly. The parking situation is also great. 8/10 would recommend! read more

Pretty solid establishment, though in my mind it's more of a hangout spot than a pure coffee spot. The interior is nice, clean, and modern, creating a fun and relaxed atmosphere to hangout with friends or if a bit quieter to get some work done. There is plenty of seating with a few options (table, bar, couches) in this medium-ish sized space so one can go alone or in groups, though it can get a bit crowded when there's a rush. The drinks are decent, especially the teas, though they do err on the sweeter side even if you ask for less sugar. They also have a small selection of treats, some which I think they make themself which are fairly good, and then some which are from guglhupf, which are great (though have to be wary of how fresh they really are). The staff is very friendly, but service is a bit slower as soon as there is even the slightest rush. Prices though, all around, from simple plain black coffees to their specialty drinks and even their food, all just fairly high for what it is and why I'd likely not go back too often. I understand specialty drinks being pricey, but then at least offer the black coffee cheaper. Same thing with the food. The tea pots are semi reasonable as while they are pricey, they can easily be split amongst a good amount of people. read more

As far as coffee shops go, Qamaria has everything you'd hope for with a little bit more. The shop is modern and themed making it feel like a little escape. It's also a fun way to explore coffee history as the fun facts on the wall sparked some interest for me to research the roots of coffee brewing in Yemen. The staff was friendly and recommended Mufawaar coffee to me which I ended up really enjoying. The menu has a lot of great options especially for someone trying Yemeni coffee for the first time. The experience was great and the shop was a nice place to work in the morning with tons of natural light. There are some outlets along the wall but not too many spaces if you really need to charge your devices. Overall it's definitely a place coffee lovers should visit at least once (and again if the flavor profile is right for you!). read more

We had been to a competing Yemeni coffee chain a few months ago but were excited to try this new one that is closer to our house. We arrived on a Saturday morning and the pasty case barely had anything in it yet. They were brand new and must just be ramping up. My wife and I both had different types of coffees with spices -- cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, etc. While it is exotic and delicious, we understand some won't like it. These types of drinks also tend to have a sediment at the bottom, so you might now want to drink the whole thing. The space is open and inviting. Unfortunately, when we were there what looked like a group of families arrived and kids started running around screaming -- this is not a criticism of the establishment, just an observation that people should rein in their kids more. We look forward to coming back and trying other drink and pastry options. read more

After hearing hype about this place on social media and mixed review from friends, I was excited to finally check it out. The ambience is lovely. Quite modern with a Middle Eastern twist. If I were to be really picky, we noticed the seating near the outlets has an awkward height, which makes it uncomfortable for working lol, so come with laptop charged!! Coffee here were great! We ordered a hot pistachio latte and a quamaria latte, and both were excellent. The pistachio latte, in particular, was so good that I kept craving it all week and came back just for another one. As for the pastries and food--this is where things were more mixed. We got here in the morning of a saturday around 9am, and almost everything was not available. The croissant was about $8 after tax, and the tea cakes were around $5. They were tasty but very small. The pastries are sourced from La Recette, which I appreciate as a way to support another local business, but since they're not made in-house, they did lose a bit of freshness. I was especially interested in trying their honeycomb dessert, which is supposedly made in-house, but the server told us it was out and would be refilled in a few hours. After waiting around and hanging out with friends, we checked again--only to be told it wouldn't be available at all that day, which was disappointing. Hopefully they will be more well stocked in the future! The place got very busy around lunchtime, which was a bit surprising given the limited food options. Overall, I'd absolutely return for the drinks, but still need to try their in house pastry to form my full opinion there. read more

First time visiting this Yemeni coffee shop and I'm already a fan. I ordered the iced caramel latte, and it was refreshingly smooth, well-balanced, and not overly sweet. You can really taste the quality of the coffee. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Such a great introduction to Yemeni coffee culture. I'll definitely be back! The inside was lovely with tons of seating all around. On request, I was able to adjust the sweetness to light sugar which was perfect for me (and still pretty sweet). For $7, it felt a tad pricier than other comparable specialty lattes. What stood out the most, however, was the shop's ambiance which was cozy yet bright and spacious with large windows. They had comfortable seating, WiFi, clean restrooms and low background music playing that makes it a relaxed spot to study/work in. I'm very upset that my wife got burned by your coffee! We asked for drinks in the cafe but were served with "to go" cups. When she took the plastic top off to drink, the scalding liquid poured over her hand! She is a professional artist who uses hers hands for work! I have been a dedicated regular at Qamaria's since they opened in January, even gifting the shop a bamboo plant to contribute to the space. Despite my repeat patronage and over 20 years of my own experience in luxury hospitality and food service, I have recently been met with increasing hostility. During my most recent visit, my "to-go" order was mistakenly served in a ceramic mug, causing it to get cold. I politely asked for hot water to restore the temperature. Later, when I asked for a lid for a second cup of hot water, the owner's mother--who was working the counter--threw the plastic lid across the counter in my direction. It is jarring to be met with such blatant disrespect as a paying patron who has consistently supported this business (spending $15 per visit including tips). A beautiful interior does not excuse a lack of basic professional decorum. I won't be returning. read more

Sooo cute but so expensive - a spacious, nice blend of warm yet still modern vibes inside. WiFi worked great with at least 10 other people working inside. I loved the Yemeni music and designs. With all going on in the world, it's nice to celebrate this culture :) I got a Qamaria latte (unsweetened) and a 2-pc baklava and it cost $16. They can customize syrup/sugar levels in most drinks thankfully. My only complaint is the pricing feels a little lofty/tough to justify, and I wish they had more savory options. But I am so glad to have another nice coffee shop locally!! This is franchise it seems that sources their coffee from Yemen which may contribute to the higher prices. read more
