I went in for a deep tissue massage hoping to relieve some knots in my back and instead walked out in worse pain than when I arrived, and I wasn't even in pain to begin with. The therapist clearly didn't know how to gauge my body's limits or adjust pressure accordingly. There was no proper warm-up, no real check-ins about the level of discomfort, and now I'm so sore that I can barely get out of a chair without pain. That is not a normal or acceptable outcome of a massage. A truly skilled therapist knows the difference between working muscle tension and causing harm. I'm really surprised by some of the reviews of this business. I think the low ratings are unwarranted, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I come here on a regular basis, and I think they're wonderful. My girlfriend and I get the couples massage with 40 minutes of body, with the remaining 20 minutes for the feet. The staff are nice, absolutely great masseuses, and I always leave feeling 10 times better than when I walked through the doors. The one criticism I have of this business is that they do tend to ask you for additional services that you may not want. When they ask for these additional services, it's always polite and they never insist when you respond with a simple no thank you. I am a regular at this location and have had mostly good experiences there. Their massages are worth the money for me. However, there are some "realities" that I would mention. 1) they will always try to upsell and ask if you would like a hot stone massage or if you would like to use a different essential oil (it's extra $$) 2) call in to make an appointment (you don't want to waste a trip) 3) they will ask if you have cash instead of paying with a card. Stopped in and asked for 30-minutes massage was told $40/40 minute-minimum and shown to a cold room and told to undress. 10 minutes later a worker finally came in. I was asked what pressure I liked and I said strong pressure. That will be $60 I was told. I said I would take a regular massage then. After a few minutes it was evident she was going to barely use pressure at all because of that. So rather than waste 40 minutes I agreed to the higher rate. She used cheap bad smelling lotion and the massage was without much technique and frequently just a bunch of slapping my body parts. First, I would have given 5 stars just for the excellent massage. Thorough head-to-toe massage with hot towels on massaged areas when moving to another part of the body. HOWEVER, I do feel uncomfortable with the upselling of extra charges, especially when already undressed face-down on the table. And I felt uncomfortable when I was challenged about my decision not to tip. (Already experiencing pressure to tip and service charges throughout the Mall). I personally would prefer that the spa charge more up-front on the menu as an all-inclusive price rather than pressures to pad the bill. (This is not limited to this spa, but a gripe I have with bodywork service industry in general). I walked in and ask for the foot reflexology and while it felt Amazon I'm like I got time for a full body lol. I ended up getting the special 30min foot/ 60min body deep tissue. It's was truly the best massage I've ever experienced! I took one start away because I had to pay extra on the foot massage for a mediocre lavender oil ($20) instead of Vaseline. Also when time to pay they ask for cash instead of card but you'll be charged a 3% charge. They insisted I use there ATM machine and I kept saying I'm all set I'll use my card. Me and my husband came here for a couples massage. we picked the $60 - 60 minute massage. We were shown to our room with minimal instructions, no questions to ask how we would like the massage, any injuries or areas we aren't ok with being touched etc. A male and female come in. I made it clear right away I am not comfortable as a female having a male touch me especially with such minimal clothing on so I asked them to please switch, no problem. Several times the women continued to uncover my butt!!! At this point I Kept reaching to cover up and my husband looked over and said "you have my wife's a** out!!!!" I pulled the towel back up (I was only in a thong, we were instructed to wear only our underwear, we didn't plan on getting a massage but I figured they always keep you stay covered by a towel so it would be ok) seconds later, after we addressed I was not comfortable having my butt out (especially with another male present!) she pulled the covers down again! She did it several times, I spent my time there anxious, trying to constantly keep myself covered up, I wanted to just leave! Then At the end she ripped the entire sheet COMPLETELY OFF ME REVEALING MY WHOLE ENTIRE BODY! My husband again said WHAT ARE YOU DOING!! I then grabbed the sheet as quickly as I could without revealing my chest and said PLEASE I don't want my whole body out. I stared at him ready to cry I felt so violated. I am a bodybuilder who gets massages often, I know it is common to have your glutes massaged etc but there is a way to go about these things, ive never been exposed in this manner. I know when a massage is done distastefully, this was beyond unprofessional. My husband didn't even get his legs worked on, they completely neglect the front of your body (which thank god the way my situation was going) I left paid the $$ and left NO tip I was appalled I was question as to why and I just walked out. Later on I got a phone call by the manager to ask how we were feeling? I was originally going to leave a 4-star review but after my experience, I was really disappointed. We arrived just before our scheduled appointment. We walked in and there was no one there to greet us. A staff person who was doing a pedicure came over and rang a bell and someone came out 1-2 minutes later. I let them know we were here for our couples hot stone massage and we had a Groupon we were using. I was having issues pulling it up on my phone as there was no signal in the business. I had to walk out and jump on H&M's wifi as they did not offer any. Went back in and got that squared away. We were brought back to our rooms. One of the people who was doing the massage explained where we could leave our clothes etc. There were not formal introductions. Also the room as a bit chilly for a massage and the top sheet on the massage tables was an oversided bath towel. The massage itself was great and 20 min into the massage the attendants had us smell lavender massage oil they were going to use. So the hot stones were amazing as well and it was a relaxing hour. When we finished it would have also been nice to have been left a towel to be able to wipe off some excess oil if needed. We leave the room and walk to the desk to provide the gratuities and I am informed that there is an additional $40 fee. I said for what as we had already purchased the Groupon. The attendant stated it was for the scented massage oil that was used. I stated that we were never told there would be a charge for that option neither on the Groupon or anytime while at Qi Balance. This is a highly unethical and shady tactic to charge a client an extra service without first gaining their approval of the charges. I would NEVER go back here again just because of this one instance of being taken advantage of. The owners/operators of this business should be ashamed of themselves for doing this. Honestly the worst massage experience I've ever had. My boyfriend and I made an appointment for a hot stone couples massage and I should have known to turn away after dealing with the rude woman checking us in. She eventually brought us to the room where the top sheets on the beds were bath towels. Apparently I put my bath towel on wrong because my male masseuse took it upon himself to remove the towel and fix it, exposing my entire body. I felt violated. My masseuse never asked me about pressure or if I was okay when I was clearly in pain and pulling away multiple times during the massage. I was sore and covered in bruises for multiple days following. My boyfriend enjoyed his massage, however, about 20 minutes in they asked him if he'd like them to use a special oil on us. He agreed and it was only when we went to pay that we were informed it would be an extra $20 each for the oil. We begrudgingly paid the extra fee and included a tip we thought was appropriate for our experience. The woman pointed to a sign on the desk that said "Gratuity Greatly Appreciated" and said "this tip not for both" and put her hand out to me requesting more money. It was my husband first massage and I was hoping for the best as we had to use a gift card that was given to us before it expired. I have to say, Helen and Lisa were great!! Boy, are they strong!! My husband LOVED his hot stone/deep massage as well as me! They were awesome!! I've had many massages and I know each place is different with techniques. We were offered the lavender oil, but I know its usually an up sale of $20 per person, so I declined. The non scented one was fine. Also, we only had our back side massaged for the hour. The front was never massaged, which I thought was odd if your getting a full body massage. But again, like I said each place is different and maybe due to COVID this was a reason. Pros: Very clean and quiet atmosphere. Today we received a Couples Stone Massage. The Massages were great, deep tissue as we both needed. Set a timer to ensure you are receiving what you pay for in time Nice warm towels were applied during the massages. Cons: Very hard to understand the women that escorted us into the Couples room. There were no hooks to hang your cloths, only to drape them on a folding chair. Tiled floor was sooo cold. During the Massage, they often opened and closed the doors to get items(warm towels, hot stones) leaving your lower part of body exposed. During the start of the Stone part of the Message they ask you if you want oil(again, very hard to understand what they were talking about) Timer goes off and they are done. Could use a bottle of water at the end of the session let customers know to get up slowly and take there time for they have been lying face down for an hour. The ambiance of the massage salon is very nice and very clean. The massage itself was great- they used a variety of techniques. Massage over the towel, hot stones, massage without the towel, and a lotioned back massage. In terms of pressure, it definitely was deep pressure and thus deep tissue. Two things I didn't like..1) phone calls and vibrating cell phone within the massage room during the massage. two phone calls were answered during my hour. 2) hands and feet aren't focused on much. I think this isn't a big deal for everyone but it is for me because I constantly feel like my feet and hands need a deep tissue massage. Other than that, great experience. **Keep in mind that if you buy the groupon which is for $100, 1 hour massage... you are expected to tip on the $100 not the price you paid for the massage. Terrible experience here last month. I booked a relaxation massage and had serious bruises the next day. The masseuse (a male) didn't ask me if the pressure was ok until 5 minutes before the end of the massage. I was wincing / pulling away at points. It also felt like he pushed on bone more than muscle half the time. I wanted to pay with a credit card on the way out and they were very pushy for me to pay in cash. I have been to them three times and during two of my visits, they shaved twenty minutes from an hour long massage. What they do is, set it for sixty minutes and mid massage, they have someone else bring in another timer with less time. Their massages are wonderful, but the staff is rude, and they obviously don't care about providing the customer with what they are paying for. I recently visited Qi Balance Spa with my husband for a couple's massage as part of our anniversary celebration. I tried calling several times and even visited the spa on my way home one day to make the appointment as I wanted to make sure I would get it on our anniversary. They would not allow me to make the appointment until exactly a week before. We arrived about 15 mins early to the appointment. When we got there, they had given our spot to another couple who booked a 90 min massage as opposed to our 60 min massage. They showed us to a room in the back which was very obviously made up at the last minute and looked like a spare closet. When I told them that the room was too small for a couple's massage and that we wouldn't mind waiting the 15 mins for our regularly scheduled room, they told us that it would be another 30 mins before we could get a massage. That's when we found out that they gave our spot away to a walk-in customer. As we had other plans and couldn't wait another 30 mins, we decided to go ahead with the room they had prepared. It was my husband's first time and probably his last at a massage. The massage was rushed and just awful. The two masseuses that worked on us couldn't have been experienced as the whole massage was uncomfortable, stressful and at the end of it the two of them were arguing over something I couldn't understand. When we left, I tried to talk to the person at the front desk about our dissatisfaction and she basically brushed me off and said something but again I couldn't understand anything they were saying. It's a shame to pay so much for a massage and be treated with no respect or care whatsoever. I have had other massages that were absolutely wonderful and therefore I know what I should have gotten as far as service goes. I would not recommend Qi Balance and Spa to anyone.
