Definitely need to speak Chinese (I speak broken and conversational Mandarin) to communicate but still managed to get my beautiful qipao with tailor. I came looking for a special occasion qipao. I ordered a couple to try online, but found the sizing and styles to be wildly off from what I imagined, so I wanted to find a place to try on a bunch of different ones in person. Important note on the location: At first, I walked into the store facing the street and thought that was the right/only place. Looking at the pics, some people are also confusing which storefront actually belongs to Qian Yi, and if you walk past the initial storefront, you'll find a labyrinth of shops, and Qian Yi actually is the first one on the left, not facing the street. There are many shops that sell all kinds of goods, but only a few who sell qipao. The first shop (that is not Qian Yi) had limited selection, and tried to sell me hard on the first one that looked decent on me. Their prices were $180, but they were quick to offer me a discount at $160. When I found Qian Yi a few steps away, they were advertising ~$139 for qipao, and $58 for a tang suit. Their selection was also pretty limited. Many of the pics from Yelp and even their own posting around the stores were no longer available. I did find one that I liked, but held off on buying it because we wanted to find a matching tang suit before committing to a qipao. They did offer to measure me right there and make same-day alterations, which is nice especially because we don't live in the area. I speak fluent Canto, but I also heard them speaking in English to other customers fine. Everyone was very helpful. When finding this store Qian Yi on Google Maps, after walking in it looked like it was a collection of shops within the area (kind of like a stall). I wandered into one of the ones my sister recommended where the owner had a huge selection of qipaos and cheongsams. She (Ms. Lam) accepted cash or venmo, and refused to budge for pricing besides what she gave. Her shop was the 1st one to the left I believe. The area to try out was right where she stored some of her inventory and was tiny. The one I decided to go with, ended up getting a lot of compliments at my wedding. I wore it during reception. We've checked a couple of places and haven't had much luck as they were out of her price range and size selections were quite limited. My friend's dress was a little too big in the waist area but the owner referred us to nearby shop that does alternations for really cheap. I came here looking for a dress for my tea ceremony. I found this store via Yelp and they were pretty easy to find. They are close to the entrance and just look for their store number on the numbered stalls. I didn't want to shell out a lot of money for a cheongsam because my tea ceremony will only be 30 minutes. I spent so much money on my wedding dress I was excited to see that these pre-made dresses were decent in quality. The custom dresses from other stores are definitely more fancy and unique but for my purpose of a few minutes of wear this was a great option. They had dresses ranging from simple to bedazzled. The simple red and gold design is what I went with. Mine has gold flowers on it. There was another one that had dragons all over, but that was too much for me. I'm 5'2" and I guess curvier than a traditional asian girl (blame it on the pandemic). I was a large haha. I'm usually a small in most store in the US but for asian sizes I'm a large. Each dress was labeled a size large but they all fit a little different. I recommend trying on everything to make sure. There was a lace cheongsam that looked huge on me but the dress I chose fit snug. Sizes don't really matter. My fiance decided to get a matching jacket for the ceremony. The sleeves seemed wide for him but they said it was normal. I'm not sure about that and we will probably have to get it altered. But I cannot argue because the total was $140. My dress was $95 and his jacket was $45. Not too bad! Definitely a great store if you don't want to invest another few hundred into a tea ceremony dress for a few minutes. If this will be your main dress or if you plan to change into this dress during the reception, I would consider a custom made cheongsam if you want it to be exactly what you want. read more

We've been looking around for a qun kwa around LA and found this place to be the most affordable and honestly there is not a lot of places that sell them. Sadly the owner told us they will be closing the end of this month as they retire. They have a wide selection of qi pao and a few qun kwa. They also have some groom shirts as well. Qian Yi fashion is located in the heart of Chinatown. We found great variety in traditional Chinese wedding dresses and much more. The lady was super nice to us and I'm glad I stopped here to find my dress. There are a lot of choices for women and also men if you want dragons, Phoenix and wonderful beautiful red colors. I was surprised that they also sell shoes, moms dinner wear and also tea ceremony cushions and umbrellas. When I came to this store they also had a customers buying for their daughters wedding. And she's also the same age as me what are the odds! So I would totally suggest coming here for your chinese wedding gowns and stuff for the tea ceremony. TLDR: come with Cantonese speaking folks, make sure you try on the one you buy and check every stitching, and you can haggle a little if you try a little. Longer story: I came with my Cantonese speaking partner and we went through a bunch of bridal qipao from sizes small through large and learned the sizing wasn't consistent. When we finally found something that fit, my partner haggled it down $10 (peacock dress originally at $180 down to $170). The store owners were friendly and offered to alter if the qipao didn't fit, but they claimed the one we chose was fine as is. After we got home, I put the qipao on for my MIL, and she noticed a lot of threading missing and there was a dirty spot (we went through too many qipao and forgot to check this one). My MIL called the store, explained the situation to the woman store owner, and we arranged to meet the following day. When we arrived the following day, the woman store owner was super rude and unhelpful in the exchange. She didn't pay attention to pull out the correct style and/or size, and when it was correct, the threading was not great or the fit was off. When we asked them to alter, they said they didn't provide that service, despite offering it the day before. The man store owner ended up doing the searching and finding one that worked for us. I have only shopped here (based on a friend's recommendation) and one other place in SF Chinatown, and this store was a way better deal and had more options. read more

Went here on sat and it didn't have as much selection as I thought, prices are around $100-185 and they did not budge on price as others mentioned left without buying anything, not the business fault but the parking garage here by perfect parking is a scam and will give out fake parking tickets that's $63 when they are not allowed to! even if your a min late or if you paid and forgot to put it on your car or upside down in your car, be careful and don't park in the buildings parking and avoid perfect parking private lots in LA! read more

I was seeking out a beautiful qipao for my upcoming wedding, so my mom and I took a trip to Chinatown to scout one out. We decided to check out Qian Yi based on the high ratings on Yelp. We rode the metro, got off on Chinatown stop, and walked 4 min to 812 N. Broadway. However, once inside the building, we mistakenly stumbled into several suites (in the same plaza), but their dress quality and aesthetic was lacking. Pro tip: walk through the suites at the front and make sure you walk a little further in until you find the right Qian Yi store. The actual number of her suite is #123 (see attached photo!) Qian Yi, the owner, was so kind and patient as I tried on dress after dress. It was really hard to choose, since they all looked lovely. I'm super picky, so I spent a while in the store; I never felt rushed, though. She had a keen eye and pulled several dresses that helped accentuate my figure. They have a wide selection of stunning, high quality qipao, and prices were fair. 5 stars for the high value and excellent customer service. I came here to look at their Qi Pao's since I hear they're very well liked by Chinese pageants. I was 100% going to buy a dress here since my friend's parents own the place. Obviously they don't know me, I didn't want to tell them either, seems weird? Well after looking around the very cramped place, I spotted one design I really liked. But it wasn't in my size. They only had large and I needed a small. She offered other designs but idk. I just felt picky and was set on this one particular dress. It's been sitting there for over 8 months judging by the other yelp photos. She quoted me $168 (lol 一路發 good fortune), and that it'll take one month to make. Actually the prices are really reasonable and the quality does seem wonderful. Surprised someone in another review suggested to haggle. Also, I was under the impression that she does the tailoring herself or could take what is in stock and custom tailor it to my size. But she said it would take over a month or two to get my size small. UmMmMM. I am not sure if the dresses are made from them or if they're just resellers from some warehouse. The designs do not update frequently. It's just the customer service made me a little sad. To your face they are friendly however they start talking smack in canto about a lot of customers. They don't want to go out of their way to dig for the dress in the piles unless you look like someone who's going to buy I guess. The customer in front of me was trying on a dress and some shoes so I looked around before I could go further in the back of the store. After she left, they complained how she tried on so many things and doesn't want to buy. I understand that it's frustrating to do that but that's kind of the point. You need to convince them to buy, by delivering a good customer service! I feel really bad to leave this review but it's my opinion. Came here looking for a cheong-sam for my wedding. My hubby's grandpa was kind enough to buy one for me and offered to take us in Chinatown. This shop is located inside the Dragon Center. They're known for dressing the contestants in Chinese pageants (pictures displayed on the wall). They have beautiful selections of traditional Chinese dress for all occasions. My hubby's family wanted me to shine so we picked a beautiful gold cheong-sam with red and gold stitching of flowers. It was beautiful but the material was a little thick for my preference. I received lots of compliments on my wedding day. They also do alterations here. My alterations took about 45-50 min for her to take in the sides. Definitely try to haggle to get the best deal. When we were here the lady was a little pushy about a yelp review. She wanted me to check-in and write a yelp review with 5 stars before she would let us go. I just checked-in and walked away. Very impressed with this shop! I went to another store for a qi pao and they were charging around $700! Came here and spent less than $200 including alterations. The lady altered the waist to fit me perfectly in 30 minutes! It's a small shop inside the dynasty center, but definitely worth checking out.
