Any port in a storm... This port is actually a couple rotting boards in the water and some pieces of broken plywood. Stay here ONLY if you have NO other options. ALL of the stairwells are boarded up and red marker tagged due to crumbling balconies. That's NOT my opinion, it's a safety violation cited by the county. The closed pool is a botanical experiment. At the front desk: NO Wi-Fi. NO Coffee. NO Breakfast. Walking over to the utility room, you will discover that the ice maker, washer and dryer have been disconnected for several years. There's no vending machine. Around the complex, you'll see miscellaneous furniture, boxes, and hotel supplies stacked in various places. It looks like sloppy staging for an upcoming liquidation auction. I get the impression that deferred maintenance is the standard. What do you get out of staying here? A bed. A shower with good water pressure. A working refrigerator and a microwave. A noisy AC/space heater that makes a high pitch whine from a bearing as it cycles up and down while heating and cooling the room. There was an ice bucket set neatly with cups, but, it's a meaningless detail with the lack of an ice maker. That's it. It is useful to know that there is a Dollar Tree conveniently nearby in the Ironwood shopping center adjacent to the hotel. With the lack of amenities at the "Quality" Inn, you might need to make a visit during your stop over. My husband and I had dinner at the chinese restaurant next door (Louie's Mandarin Gourmet-I recommend-Really good!). We had a conversation with the server. She mentioned that the hotel was closed by the health department for 6 weeks, then reopened in late March. She didn't know why. We agreed that maybe the place should be condemned due to the balconies. After the meal, I asked for some ice to take back to the room, and she was able to help me out. We were grateful. Other things to know about this place: When I checked in, I was advised that there was NO housekeeping because the maids quit. I see. Maybe I'll buy that story. Maybe I won't. IF I wanted to extend my stay, it was advised to let them know EARLY in the morning. The front desk is only open for 3 pm check in and same staff (two people) cleans rooms in the morning. I got the impression, that the management really hoped you would believe their excuse that there's temporary maintenance issues even though everything looks like it has been this way for several years. When we left, I noticed that a building inspection report was taped to the front desk door. Thankfully, I only needed the place for one night. I've stayed at better Choice Hotel properties. This location reflects poorly on the brand. I wouldn't be surprised if the next time I go through Minden, this place might be shuttered. read more

Minden is a nice quiet and clean little town. I didn't feel like driving into Reno late so I stayed here having made this reservation through Choice as the app was down. I had forgotten I stayed here before and vowed never to return. It is a rundown property fit only for demolition. I knew I was in for it when a sign on the door listed all the unavailable amenities due to "circumstances beyond their control ". Breakfast topped the list. As I checked in I facetiously mentioned that it's easy to serve breakfast, just put it out! So while going through all the choice hotels rigamarole for check in, the clerk offhandedly told me the handicapped room I requested was unavailable and that I could have one on the second floor. I volunteered him to carry my hundred pound suitcase up. He quickly relented and gave me a room on the first floor with its own handicap parking spot. To be fair, the room was clean and I saw no bedbugs. But there is no coffee. The grounds are shabby, small maintenance items outside are neglected like cleaning up smashed bottles in the parking lot. I got hives for about 15 minutes from some chemical they use in cleaning, typical of a low end hotel. Quality Inns tend to vary widely in quality because the chain obviously has no standards it enforces. This one needs to be booted from the franchise and promptly demolished. read more

Part of the balcony has been boarded off due to it not being stable. Im told this place used to be ok, but thats hard to believe...unless it was 40 years ago. ( Pics attached.) Parts of the building floor are torn up. Its a motel that ignored maintenance and I doubt it has more than a few months before a wrecking ball comes. They could go to Goodwill and find furniture better than what was in my room. A broken lamp on the floor. The quality of this motel is why Holiday Inn just down the road can charge twice the amount. A Saturday night stay here is $140 that should be $60 max. If you are traveling north, do yourself a favor and find dozens of better choices in Carson City or hundreds in Reno. The website for this business makes it appear to be reasonable or, good. However it lacks quality and in fact I think it's misrepresented, it's awful. Old, run down, unkept grounds, empty pool, many upstairs rooms are boarded up and barricaded closed with plywood. Parking lot is cracked and needs potholes fixed. Poor exterior repairs. I remember when this was a respectable new place many years ago, hence I booked for me and my dogs. Okay customer service. $25 per dog fee, no problem. Good: clean sheets and towels....allows dogs. Bad: Black mold in bathroom next to toilet, faucet spout for shower tub pulls away from wall, bed has an aluminum sidi g to cover the space underneath the bed and it rattles every time you move. Dark and poorly lit. Base boards appear to be cloth and are mismatched, uneven. Walls have been patched and painted over, obviously damaged. Bar for hand towels is crooked, off set about two inches higher on one side. Curtains are so old they have pin holes in them. Blackout curtain is in disrepair. Bath/shower soap and conditioner empty, lotion bottle on bathroom sink half full or half used. The basic interior floor was clean but around the walls, under the dinette table, corners etc had dirt, hair and debris. I know this place had a fair/just okay rating on Booking.com but I should have checked Yelp. Disgusting, disappointing to say the least. read more

Absolutely diabolical stay. The first thing I noticed was the housekeeper didn't replace the disposable coffee cups in my room. They were wet and weird and there was a big gray TOENAIL in one of them. Honestly how does that happen? I didn't find bedbugs, but nothing in the room felt super clean. My curtains were also broken and there were pinholes (and what looked like cigarette burns) in both them and the brown bedcovers. There was also mold on the wall that looks like someone tried to clean up (pictured), and many random stains on the walls. The floor underneath the installed bathtub creaked and MOVED when I stood in it. I was on the second floor and was seriously concerned that the floor would cave in while I took a shower. The rooms to the right of mine were boarded up, and there was only one stairwell on my building that was accessible (the others were also boarded up). I also felt healthy when I entered the room, but I noticed my nose was running and I was too congested to sleep both nights I stayed. While I was out during the day both days, I had no symptoms. I did not notice symptoms after I left. Do what you want with that information. I travelled alone and stayed here for work as a 22 y/o girl. Despite multiple people telling me the Minden/Gardnerville area was safe, I did not feel safe at this motel. There were lots of sketchy people milling around on the property. Also, the pot smell outside on the second night was overwhelming. Had it not been in a relatively safe community, I would have left solely for safety reasons. Book this hotel for a week. It is horrible shape. Our room was dirty with hair in the bed. Outlet plugs loose from the walls with extension cords all over. The pool was fenced off with about a foot of green water and trash in it. We checked out after 2 nights. Called Expedia and they were only able to get a refund from the hotel of $225.00 out out a $744.00 bill. The hotel does not look like the pictures on Expedia's web sight. The guy at the front desk knew I was a woman traveling alone, it was obvious since I went in alone and no one else was in the car with me. He put me in a room where there was only 1 way out, The walk way the other way was blocked by ply wood. The room next door had no lock, door was ajar and it was in shambles. The mirror, when you put your finger up to it, no gap. Which indicates 2 way mirror. The walls had gouges out of it. The rug was gross. And the other cliental I saw, was least to be desired. When I arrived to the hotel, it was not what I expected. My buddy reserved a room with two beds for his family and then was told they only had king bed rooms available. What's the point of a reservation then! I told him he could stay with me, but when we got to my room there was one singular queen bed. You could very clearly see where a second bed used to be, but it was not there. It also reeked of smoke, even though it was a non smoking room. It didn't take long for us to leave. We didn't want to wait around to find worse problems. And I'm glad we didn't. When I arrived at the next hotel, they told us how people leave there all the time because they find roaches and bed bugs. Don't stay here in any circumstance. You're probably safer in your car. I booked through my credit card so I was given a cancellation number for when I call to get a refund. The entire hotel is a lie. The ad information from the internet is all fake. When we arrived, I knew we were in trouble. Broken concrete and asphalt everywhere, huge pits in the parking area. Our first room had a big wad of hair in the bed and burn holes all over the exposed blanket! Changed rooms. Second room had black AND pink mold in the bathroom. No internet anywhere on the property. Very old mismatched furniture from the 70's. No drain plug in the sink so the postage size soaps kept slipping into the drain. No usable pool. It was half filled with brackish green water. Continental breakfast they advertised? Lie. Dirty windows. Air conditioner sounded like a jet engine. Oh! And it's right across the street from a WATER TREATMENT PLANT! Sewer smell constantly. Quality Inn it's not. This location is in a serious need of an upgrade and has needed one for a very long time. There was a posted sign asking that we understand, that temporarily there would be no Continental Breakfast and the Pool was not available. The sign was curled and yellowing, so it had been there for a very long time. I did see a coffee carafe but didn't try it. Or much in the way of tables. The staff seemed exhausted, and somewhat defeated but she was reasonably pleasant. I kind of felt bad for her. We had to change rooms because the shower had no water. Both rooms showed that the door frames were kicked out at one time or another. The rooms nice size, but worn out. Newer TV's were placed on top of the amours that were used to house the old TV's, they could have put them on a newer desk or mounted them. The walk ways were worn out. The exterior was worn out. In both rooms the bath fixtures were old, but I did enjoy the shower water pressure and warmth. Although those itty bity soaps were difficult to use. Please provide the larger size. I really hate those tiny toilets, I need a bit more room in the front, I'm not that big of a guy. Think about that when you renovate. It's an inconvenience, that like the soap makes me not want to return. Ok, this is just fine for a sleeping place, one or two stars, but because it's advertised as a three star, we paid a higher price than we should have. Low quality Inn , a poor choice hotel! The reviews are true! While the staff is sweet and trying, the management is lacking. The toilets do over flow. They use dollar store products to clean and maybe they might have a working vacuum somewhere but they aren't going to use it on your room before you stay. They are doing renovations so that might be good for the next guest. Spend the extra $20 and find a better place. We did survive and we had fun and didn't bring home any bugs, so that's a plus! Will not be revisiting this establishment. The kids did like the playground across the street. In the room, there was something left in the tub , the sheets were not changed and there was pieces of food under the table. The pillow had makeup all over it . When I picked up my hotel key card off the nightstand it was stuck to some sticky residue on the surface. This was the worst Quality Inn & Suites we had the misfortune to stay. After reading all the reviews, I was a bit reluctant to stay here. The reviews were confirmed after our experience here. 1. The internet has been minimal at best; we were shown how to log in with a sign prominently displayed at the front desk. 2. Loose security lock on the inside of the door and electrical tape placed on the outside door knob. 3. Cracks in the sidewalk for easy tripping. 4. Pool has been out of service since who knows when, although the pool was filled with water that appeared clean. 5. Cardboard sign stating that breakfast is not served. 6. Coffee carafe in room was missing; when we brewed the coffee, it was really bad. We went to the office to ask for coffee and it was really good. 7. Sheets appeared to be wrinkled. Were these even changed? 8. Floor was dirty as sh*t, we noticed our socks and feet covered with grime after walking on the floor. Am I being too critical? First time coming here, last time coming here. This place is in the middle of nowhere. Literally (sorry Minden)! There's a shopping/food area around 10 miles away, but I'd rather be in a more lit area like where the Carson Valley Inn Casino was. This inn was located behind a few restaurants, had practically no lighting in the parking lot (dangerous!), and looked so eery by the fence of whatever it faces in the back. It smelled kind of weird and the cleanliness wasn't up to our standards. Guess who got a few bug bites as a souvenir? This place was adequate enough to put a roof over our heads that night, but otherwise, I don't recommend going here. It's worth a little extra travel to be in a cleaner, safer location. read more

The area is a nice escape from South Lake Tahoe. We stayed here for 2 night over the 4th of July. I made the reservations through Choice Hotels online. Upon arrival at 4:30PM, we checked in and was told our room was not yet ready. It would be a half hour and they would clean our room in a hurry. I had requested 2 Queen beds, and a room on the ground floor on the pool side of the hotel. They did as I requested. Yay! There is no hot tub/jacuzzi at this place! They have free WiFi, but the signal is kind of weak. When we got back, about 45 minutes later, our room was indeed ready. Everything looked great! We had a microwave and mini-fridge in there, too! The bed and pillows were really comfy. The room was spacious enough. Within a couple of hours, we realized how our room was not well maintained. The lights between the bed were unplugged (but we didn't know that) and the right light post tilted, so it was not really secured or it was broken even though it finally produced lighting. Our TV didn't work, not sure what the story with that was, but the next day, the front desk lady got it working. When I went to wash my hands, the knob on the faucet came off and I was holding it. I had to place it back on and then carefully maneuver it to turn it on & off. This remained unfixed. The toilet barely flushed and took 5 minutes to refill, which seems like an eternity if you are waiting on it! * The Quality at this Inn needs a little work, especially in Room 102!! One really nice thing about this place is the breakfast that is included with your stay! It does help with the wallet to not have to purchase one meal while away from home! I enjoyed the waffle maker, biscuits & gravy, and hard boiled eggs. They also have cold cereal, instant oatmeal, breads, fruit (no bananas), yogurt, coffee and other juices. There were donut holes, but you had to get up early to snag any of those! Didn't seem like they replenish those very well!! The 3 people at the Front Desk who I talked to each time, all apologized. The first lady told me she'd put in a note for a room change for us for the next day. We never got switched to a better room, even after I spoke with the 2nd lady. I told her the issues and she didn't offer a solution. So, when I checked out, the 3rd lady asked how my stay was and I told her. She just apologized and handed me my tab. She didn't offer a discount for my inconveniences and malfunctioning of the things in the room! I don't think it's asking too much to have the room in working order when you enter! From the other reviews, I think I just got a room that needed more TLC in the upkeep department! That's too bad! Would I stay here again? No way! It was a horrible experience! The hotel room was not clean. The carpet was wet, nor had it been vacuumed in along while. Tv didn't Work. The cables were (visually seen) not hooked up. Phone didn't work. And the microwave hadn't been cleaned in awhile either. There were spiders and webs in the room (many). The windows were dirty, the window sill hadn't been clean in along time, as there were many live and many dead bugs. Because the bed was near the window you have no choice but to inhale this. We contacted the management team immediately. We spoke to a young man named Luke. Problem 1: The TV not working Luke stated the maintenance person left to go cash his check and had no idea if he had planned to return or not, so he didn't know what to say about the TV, and that we would just have to do without it. Problem 2: The phone not working Luke stated "I don't know what to tell you, it probably hasn't worked in along time, and as I said..... I have no idea if the maintenance man is coming back or not" me-- can you call him, maybe? Luke--no, because he never answers his phone" Problem 3: the dirty, the room not being cleaned: Luke, all my guests have been complaining today, I guess my housekeeper didn't do a good job or something" me--- can we have a different room? Or get our money back.... something? Luke--- we have no more rooms available, we are booked solid. You went thru Priceline, so no, I can not reimburse you, but I can have the house keeper come back and clean the room, though. Me: ok, but what about the TV and phone? Luke---I already told you I don't know if the maintenance guy is coming back, you'll have to do with what you have." Problem 4: spiders and live and dead bugs. Luke--he took out the live spiders by hand and released it outside the front door?!?!?!? Luke stated " I'll tell the housekeeper to clean this as well. At this time we left for dinner and Luke assured us the housecleaner would have our room cleaned and finished before we got back. Problem 5: room never got cleaned. We came back from dinner 3 hours later, room was not cleaned. We went back to the office and spoke to Luke, AGAIN. Luke stated house keeper already went home, she ran out of time and didn't get a chance to clean our room! Next day at check out.... different person checking people out. Guest in front of me complaining because their room had no water and they complained to Luke the night before, but Luke stated there were no rooms available so the guests would have to make do. He to asked for a refund which he was denied because he went thru an online company. Now it's my turn to check out....I also explained what had happened to us. This person was apologetic, but she had just started working there. I asked to speak to the manager or the owner, neither were available. I left a message for the owner to call me back to Rectify the problem. The owner never called back. Other visual issues with this hotel: The pool was empty, nothing stating why. It's August and very hot outside , it's safe to assume it's available to use. Our room was upstairs, at the top of the stairs where it connects to the walkway is cracked and separating (the stairs and landing area is separating), so it's easy to trip and fall, as I did exactly that. There is no sign letting you know this. The hotel looked like it was either literally run down or was about to go thru Renovations, but Luke confirmed it's not under renovations. This place looks to be own by a slumlord. It DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THE PICTURES that are posted. I do not recommend this hotel. Thank you read more
