The ENT ambulance took my friend to this medical center after she had a fainting episode during our seminar and from the moment we checked in till the check out time , every single staff were kind, polite, attentive, fast and knowledgeable. Not sure about all the low star reviews, but our experience deserved 5 star review. If we were back home in California, we would have been sitting in ER till dawn of next day . Your supposed to be a hospital and your company uses the name of Baptist that's the cousin of christ. Patient privacy and dignity should be number one priority second only to regular protocols and if a paient needs answers they should be readily available. And last but not least get the EPA to figure out what that disgusting sewer mold smell is that's emanating from the c elevator shafts and get the elevators maintained they are scary. The worst experience EVER!!!! We rolled my mom in at 1:30 pm to the emergency room. Sat in the waiting room for 8 hrs. Finally got called back and sat until 3:30 am until I got fed up and had to say something. Unacceptable!!!!!!! Save yourself and do not come to this hospital. read more

I'm from Dallas and was visiting San Antonio when my fiencé got in an accident and broke his leg. The ambulance took us straight here to the emergency room. What a pleasant (relatively) experience we had. We ended up staying for two nights and every nurse that helped take care of us was amazing. I wish I could remember all of their names, but the few I do remember are, Richard (ER), Denna, Chelsea, Kristen, and David. We also had a wonderful physical therapist team, and surgeons Dr. Deleon and his assistant. Everyone was nice friendly and attentive, kept you up to date unlike other hospitals, also had a relatively easy discharge. I have originally left 3 stars before, because one RN named Robert from ER had a rude attitude. Two weeks after my visit I have pains on my left side of my torso from a hit that one PA Ashley S. who was supposed to check me for general condition. I was left with constant pains and no clue why she did that...... Are they supposed to kill you or help you recover? Medication that I got was not even close to what I was expecting now these pains.... One of the worse hospitals ever. Hope if you go here and decide to go to the temporary chapel that you aren't ask to leave because you've been there long enough. That's exactly what happened to me and my sister. We were praying and had been there for 10 minutes and the receptionist asked us to leave because we had been there long enough. The temporary Chapel was needed for a meeting. All I wanted was a room and privacy to pray for my dying mother. I hope this employee doesn't ever have to go through what my sister and I experienced. My daughter voluntarily checked in at the Baptist Hospital Emergency Room on April 24th around 9pm. She was having suicidal ideation and thought the ER would help her. This Emergency Room denied my 23 year old daughter her prescribed psychiactric medication for over 32 hours. They refused to allow her to contact her parents for 19 hours despite the fact that she appointed me to be the person permitted to make decisions for her if she was unable. They chemically restrained her without her informed consent and without contacting me for my permission. They physically restrained and held her down so violently that she was badly bruised and scratched in multiple locations. This rendered her unable to communicate. She woke up hours later with blood all over her arms and on the bed. She was held there without being told what her treatment plan was for nearly 32 hours and without contacting her emergency contact. In fact, I called the hospital 5 times trying to find her and each time was either put on an endless hold, hung up on, or told she was not a patient. I was beside myself and had no idea what had happened to my daughter. My daughter came to the ER for help like she was always instructed to do if she felt suicidal. Instead she was treated like a prisoner with no rights instead of a patient with civil rights under Federal and Texas law. In fact, she was traumatized by the willful neglect, abuse and violation of her civil rights. Attorneys will be contacted this upcoming week. Update: A representative from the hospitals Safety department called my daughter this morning because they saw this review. The woman listened to my daughters description of the abuse she endured at the Emergency Room over a period of 34 hours. We were told that our concerns would be addressed with the ER Staff. All I can think is, why did it take a negative review for this hospital to care about how she was treated? Why didn't the doctors, nurses, security officers, social worker, or ANYBODY present do the right thing for my daughter? Would they treat a person having a heart attack with such disregard and carelessness, Or is it just Psychiactric patients getting this abuse? If this can happen to my daughter who has always been able to self advocate, it can absolutely happen to Psychiactric patients that have nobody looking out for their well-being. Mental Healthcare is medical care. These patients deserve to be treated with dignity, respect and compassion. Not allowing a patient to make contact with a family member unless they calm down and stop crying is an abuse of power. Pinning a patient down and chemically restraining them because they're "disturbing other patients" by crying and asking to call her mom is criminal. read more

Got bit by a dog and called ER to ask a question, and I was hung up on twice. Finally got to have a conversation the 3rd time, and the staff was rude and had major attitude. Did not want to be bothered. Nurses were nice, but can tell they had too much on their plate and could not keep up with the small amount of patients due to other situations. I applaud nurses for all the work they actually do. When given my papers with follow up dates for shots, the dates were completely wrong. Over 10 days off the actual dates. I caught it and asked questions. Then I was provided with another paper with where and what days to go. The days were wrong and I wasted my time at another location due to inability to check the information that they are giving out, that I already corrected once. Whoever is in charge that portion needs to pay attention as it has a domino effect to peoples time and days. That are now being wasted due to an error on their part. read more

If I had the option of zero stars, I would rate this hospital as such. Keep it moving. Do not go to this hospital. They lack transparency and doctors don't work together to provide optimal care. In my family situation, one particular nurse, Sam, 7th FL, lacked tact, decorum, professionalism and above all empathy. Presented options for our loved one but in a stoic way. And when we were making Important calls to close family members to let them know our loved one was entering final phase of life, Sam barged in and proceeded to do a glucose check in the midst of our good byes. The incompetence is overwhelming and unacceptable! brought to ER by ambulance after an accident at Brackenridge Sat night. on gurney 3 hrs in hallway in wet clothes, 20 hrs in ER bay. wouldn't let me use bedside commode, insisted on a bedpan. I was put in bed pan & left, pulled nurse cord when done; sat in my urine for 20 minutes, until I finally pulled it out myself & flagged someone down to help me. I had fallen in the SA River & was wet with disgusting water, I asked several times for something to wash or wipe myself down with & something dry.... It wasn't until I flagged someone down to help me with my bedpan that he helped me change sheets, get me out of my wet clothes & into a dry gown - 4 hours after getting to ER. I asked for something for pain & was told it was ready & two hours later I finally flagged down someone else to help me. Both times I was given a shot in my arm I was jabbed with such force it bled & left a large bruise. The hospital was short on rooms so many patients had to wait but whenever a room upstairs finally became available it was obvious from discussions that it wasn't by priority but by which nurse could get their patient slipped in first. Once in a room I asked if I could get cleaned up or get a shower - I was told they were waiting for PT to see if I can shower - but wouldn't give me a sponge bath or help me get cleaned up in any other way - there was still debris falling off of me from the river. I finally couldn't take it anymore & told them I was taking a shower without PT - who never showed up. They finally showed up Tue morning. There was a hole in the middle of my mattress and the lower leg raise and lower mechanism didn't work properly (which I needed for my surgically repaired leg); I requested several times for a new/better bed but never got one. Next time I asked to use restroom, they insisted I use the bedpan & the man put a pad on top it and slid it up under me & walked out. My discharge papers had a diagnosis of SUBSTANCE ABUSE and when I asked the nurse why she lef, came back & said that my urine test was positive for amphetamine but since I had a prescription for Adderall it shouldn't have been on there - if I hadn't have checked that the substance abuse diagnosis would be in my permanent medical records!! I was sent home with no safe home care plan - just a walker. No bedside commode, shower chair, instructions on how to manage safely around my home... When I checked my papers to call my case manager, there was no name or phone number on the paperwork - just the hospital name and address. I have been calling the hospital since Wed to speak to my case manager & they refuse to give me a name or contact number. I have been told that a message has been submitted to the director & was assured both Wed & Thur that I would receive a call from them. still waiting for that call back. read more

The care is subpar and albeit maybe understaffed because of the scamdemic, I seriously feel this place is more in the business of filling cemeteries! Last time I went there I was experiencing coughing up blood, lots of it. It took an hour to get back from the waiting area. The nurse was the only person I saw. The ER rooms were not so clean. There was debris on the floor, the trash was full, as well as the linen bin. When it was time to put in the IV needle, the nurse had to use the lid of the linen bin as there were no trays to use. Hours went by, I started asking for water. I was not allowed anything to drink until the doctor saw me. After I was there for 12 hours, never saw a doctor, and was severely dehydrated, I opted to check myself out. That took another 1/2 hour. I NEVER saw any housekeeping people while there. Went to another hospital after getting hydrated, and 4 hours later, imaging, labs were done, and saw the doctor 3 times, and went home. read more

I had to take my loved one into emergency medical care several days ago. I was nervous because I wanted to make sure my loved one had the best of the best. A hospital bed became open at BMC downtown. I was very scared because I would normally not have used this hospital. Let me tell you, I cannot explain how pleased we were to have been there. My loved one received outstanding emergency medical care for the few days he remained there. I cannot say enough of the staff on the 8th floor. Our favorite nurse was Maria! I have never in my life been talked to by anyone as I was today from a nurse on my husbands care. I was told I am the reason my husband was going to die and end up on a vent because I was stressing him out. He is in the hospital due to Covid. He was been treated so horribly. I call daily to check on his status because I have not been called during their normal 3-7pm window for an update. The care he has received has been beyond crap. I know nurses are stressed and tired. Hell, I am one! But to talk to a family member the way I was spoken to today is uncalled for. After all the years I have been a RN to be told I am nothing but a Google doctor! I have been caring for covid patients for the last 2 years just as they have. As soon as I can my husband will be transferred out and taken to a different hospital. read more

Came her because I was in false labor and I've have a high risk pregnancy so my specialist only has rights at this hospital. My husband dropped me off at the ER and went to park the car but when I went inside the nurse stopped me and said I would have to walk all the way around the facility and come in through the new entrance. I told her I needed a wheelchair because I can't walk and she said that's not my problem. A male bystander told her to let me in and to cutthrough and she said you don't work here to the man and told me again to walk around the facility. I ignored her and said I needed the elevator to labor and delivery and she said good luck with that and walked away. When I DID find L&D it took them forever to get me into the computer, I had to ask for a blanket because the gave me a gown and left me in an empty room, I had to ask to give a urine sample, and I had to ask them to put me on the baby monitor to make sure my baby was not in distress..... The nurse who took care of me said "you know your dr has rights to a hospital closer to your home, next time just go there and refuse to come here and he will have to see you..... This hospital staff is either no help or pushing you to go to another location.... Take their advice and pick a different hospital. Update: spoke to a representative of the hospital this week who assured me the matter would be addressed and my doctor would be notified. Spoke to my doctor today who said he was never contacted. He is now moving me to a different hospital and agreed for me to update this review that the hospital never notified me of what steps were taken to correct this issue. read more

My dad was on the 2nd floor for about 1.5 weeks, the staff did nothing but hang out in the nurses station and gossip. The overnight housekeepers didn't do anything because every morning I would visit my dad, the room was dirty. Always had to ask for housekeeper in AM. Thanks Patricia. The overnight nurse couldn't speak good English, the communication was terrible!! The nurse Schewta needs to get RETRAIN, the head nurse Virginia was teaching her HER JOB!! The front desk secretary Mary had attitude from the time she walked in until the end of shift. Yesenia and Miranda were absolutely caring. I personally think the floor/ case manager Gina tapped out.. It's sad because the 2nd floor doesn't have Doctors. Dr. Hughes ( Neurologist) was very helpful and professional.. They don't give at least 1 day advance of discharge. My mother was admitted with altered mental status last week and is unable to adequately advocate for herself, it was been a constant battle to get updates from Dr. Faldu, when we spoke he mentioned that he is overwhelmed to the pandemic. I'm a ER RN in Nyc and I'm aware of the complexities that this pandemic presents but at no point during this chaotic period have I ever been to busy to update families...for days! I've requested a call from risk management due to a pressure ulcer that developed during her inpatient stay, it been 4 days...no call. I've asked that the patient advocate call me, it's been 2 days...no call. I've requested a family meeting with the medical team and administration, its been 3 days...no call.Today after calling my mother's room for several hours and (the line was busy), so my sister and I called the nursing station to make sure she was okay and we were told by the charge RN Christina Washington "The nurse is packing her up to transfer her now, she'll call you back." I asked where my mother was being transferred (due to the line being busy for hours and the resistance to provide information I'm imagining the worst case scenario, Christina informed us "The nurse will let know." I asked her if at the very least she could tell us what floor, she refused. We attempted to call the house supervisor without success (not currently in the office). I'm writing this email not knowing what condition my mother is in, and why her transfer location is draped in secrecy. Has her condition deteriorated or worst? The lack of care and concern exhibited by the current charge nurse and Dr. Faldu is disheartening and unacceptable especially when we can't be by our mother's side to advocate for her. Covid has presented is with a slew of challenges, one should not be a lack of empathy, compassion, advocacy, and professionalism. read more

Unbelievably poor patient care. It's unfathomable how incredibly neglectful and absentminded 80% of the nurses and staff seem to be. My mother was hospitalized here very recently and had received the worst treatment in this "hospital". 2 days without any fluids (IV or otherwise); because the nurses didn't receive any "orders"? Yet, I'm visiting her and being a business owner whom is not even remotely in the medical field can even see signs that she's becoming dehydrated! Frothy saliva and chapped lips! Really people? And you're medical professionals? Not to mention the RD came in to speak with her about her diet and what can help with her gastro issues - and says she would be sending over foods which can help...then she disappears and nothing was ever issued to my mother. Her Anesthesiologist seemed to be the only one who cares and showed concern that my mother hadn't been receiving any fluids for 2 days! It's insane. And I have the upmost respect for medical professionals. A good portion of my client base are surgeons, NPs, and RNs (not here)- but it's dumbfounding how incredibly lackluster this staff seems to be about BASIC patient care. Apparently, Nurse Adrienne on the 5th floor has a major attitude problem and has had no issues with being rude and borderline abusive to patients either. My mother is seriously so concerned she called me in the middle of the night and actually said, "IF I DIE, ITS BECAUSE THESE PEOPLE KILLED ME." What?! Who wants to get a call like that from their mother while they're supposed to be healing and getting treated for an illness!? If it's not a major emergency take the time to drive up to Baptist North. According to an inside source the patient care is better and people don't seem to walk around as if their patients are a burden to them. This hospital should really put more funding in training their staff on how to care these patients and maybe take their jobs a bit more seriously. After all, you're dealing with people's HEALTH! They kill everyone here. 90% of the nurses are brand new with no experience & the other 10 is trafficked over from the Philippines for cheap labor. HR is known to cover-up incidents that lead to death. They are always out of pain meds because the nurses are too busy stealing them & being inpaired on the job. Short Version: We paid $1800 on Feb 2 to Baptist Medical Center, it is now Apr 21 and we have still not received refund. Oscar Health Insurance told us our bill for visit was $0. Baptist Medical Center claimed we still owed them. Oscar Health Insurance spoke with Baptist Medical Center that is was $0. However, we have still not received refund. Long Version: My dad was sent to Baptist Medical on Feb 1, 2021 for Pre-Op Exam for surgery that was done on Feb 2. Going into surgery we were told to pay for the cost. We paid $1800. On Feb 14, Oscar health insurance posted the Explanation of Benefits showing that cost was $0. However, Baptist Medical Center kept sending bills that we owed money. We called and talk with Billing Department per number provided on the bill but they kept saying they not receive information from Oscar. This kept dragging on that we had Oscar Health Insurance step in on Apr 1 and they resolved the owed part on Apr 13. One more thing when we went in for Pre-Op Exam it was almost 8 hours before they released us because they were waiting for a specific doctor to sign paperwork that he was good for surgery the following morning. They moved us into another room to wait for the doctor. That doctor never showed up so after several hours they asked another doctor to step in. Because my dad was having extreme eye pain at the time and difficulty seeing, I was unable to leave him alone and pick up his necessary blood pressure medications. read more

This Godsend hospital has saved my mom's life twice, in April and December 2017. Her first experience being taken to emergency in April was unforgettable. I was out of town when it happened. I was easily comforted on the phone by hospital staff who said that my mom was in good hands while I was away. When I arrived in town and at the hospital, I was greeted with kindness and care as I was guided to Mom's room where she was admitted for severe dehydration. From the doctors and nursing staff to even housekeeping staff, my mom was treated with utmost dignity. The hospital made sure that everything was taken care of before her discharge, including arranging for home therapy services from a 3rd party company. Once again, on 16 Dec 2017, Mom had to be taken to emergency for 3 days before being transferred to a skilled nursing facility which would be Morningside at Manor (see my review on them). Mom had pneumonia apart from dehydration. Once again, my mom was treated with utmost care and love. The 3 days were filled with 24hr monitoring, medication, and physical/occupational therapy. I can't thank Baptist Medical enough. You have truly saved my mother. You will always be in my prayers! read more

Went in Tuesday morning for Kidney Biopsy and overnight monitoring. Staff and nurses especially 3rd nursing staff for room 369 were top notch and very attentive to my health concerns and pain level. The Biopsy was very painful and 2 nurses and two techs plus me on a stretcher were cramped in a very small room for procedure. Very loud at night. The food was horrible and delivered cold. How can you make bad coffee. potions were very small. Best point A+ was third floor nursing staff. read more

So I have been admitted to the downtown location for pneumonia lupus inflammation possibly lupus pneumonitis and they were controlling my pain for the first few days but as of today hardly any pain control my lungs hurt my rheumatism arthritis is out of hand and now they can tell me is they need to get me off pain medication so my lungs can start to work while I lay here miserable first they took away the morphine for sure the Dilaudid and then the nurse says I have morphine but they don't really want to give it to me I explain to them I'm on high dose of 24-hour pain medicine at home and yet here they want to minimize it to less than half to what I usually take. I just don't want to be in pain while I'm here as a patient .the patient advocate comes for about 5 minutes on the weekend so can't have anybody advocate for me. I understand they know or think what's best but I know my body and being in pain it's not good at all. All I could do is lay here and try to tolerate my lung pain my lupus pain. They say they take me off morphine cuz I can't go home on it but I'm not going home to Middle next week anyways so I guess I'll just be here until they think I'm in enough pain to give me my morphine for now I'll just be on toradol which is nothing compared to the medications I drink at home. read more

On Sunday, May 8, 2022 at approximately 1:00 pm I went to the emergency room at the above mentioned hospital because I was experiencing severe burning and stinging in both eyes.  As I walked into the emergency room I noticed only 2 other individuals waiting in the waiting area. With that said, I assumed I would be seen quickly. As I spoke to the admitting clerk a gentleman behind me in line overheard my conversation and remarked that he too was experiencing eye pain. I sat down and was called by the medical staff to follow him to the back. Shortly he was interrupted by another medical assistant who asked what I was being seen for, and the first medical assistant replied that it was my eyes. The second medical assistant said that 5 other patients before me were being seen for eye problems too.  The first medical assistant took me to another area and a nurse ushered me into room #7, and the other man who had been admitted after me was taken to room #3. The nurse took my vital signs and said she would return with the doctor. As I waited patiently I overhead the doctor talking to the patient in room #3. I rang for the nurse and asked her how many doctors were on staff, she replied 3. I told her that I was in severe pain and had not yet been seen. I also mentioned that I knew the doctor had already seen the patient in room #3 who had come in after me. I told her that I was leaving since I hadn't been seen yet, and she remarked that I would still get billed for the emergency room. I told her that I hadn't been seen therefore I would not be paying it. I also told her that I would be filing a complaint and I left the hospital. read more

I am writing this review based on public information I received today while watching the local news. This hospital is FORCING VACCINATIONS FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES! If any staff member, doctor, nurse, server, janitor etc doesn't receive the Covid Vaccine by a set date they risk being terminated from their positions. Why are you forcing a vaccine that doesn't work on people? All of America knows this vaccine doesn't work and that people with it are carrying a tremendously higher rate of the illness than those who haven't. So lets force our Medical Staff to take the vaccine so they can become super spreaders & Fire them if they don't!?!?!? My father has been admitted to this hospital three times. All three times the medication list that was provided to them was not updated, so when my father would ask for his medication the nurses would deny it because it was not on the list. We talked to the business office and until then it was fixed. This last time they went a day IN ADVANCE to fill out paperwork, get bloodwork AND they were given a NEW medicine schedule - printed. After my fathers procedure he asked about his medication and was told they needed authorization from the doctor because that was not his dosage - AGAIN, they FAILED to update his medication chart until my mother had to physically show them the PRINTED copy she keeps in her purse. It is a SHAME that they can't get it together , and I sure hope this is the last time they send my father there! Incompetent service. SMH read more

Overall terrible facility, downtown San Antonio, I waved at someone on the sidewalk outside the hospital and they yelled profanities at me. My grandfather was there for almost a month, I was there off and on every week. I saw a doctor once throughout his entire stay. And she was a lousy doctor. The nurses were kind when they spoke to me, but looked like they hated their job. After my grandfather had a GI procedure done, his bladder fell asleep due to the anesthesia. After a couple of hours, he was complaining of feeling like his bladder was going to pop, but unable to urinate. Nurse paged the doctor to submit orders for a catheter. After about an hour of no response from his assigned physician, we were bugging the nurses station, my grandfather was really uncomfortable. One of the useless doctors sitting there had the audacity to say, "I'd do anything for $400, but that patient isn't in my group." Oddly enough, my grandfather passed away due to sepsis from a urinary tract infection. Thanks, BMC, for all your excellent medical care!!! read more

Well, I've never had to write a Yelp review of a hospital before and, for that, I suppose I should consider myself lucky, but the time comes for everything. My time was Friday. I woke up on Friday morning, went to work, and BAM! Doubled-over in the worst pain of my life. Without being too graphic, and for lack of a more accurate description, it felt like my organs were exploding in my own body. I went home for a minute to catch my breath and grab my insurance info, letting the pain subside a bit before making my way to the Urgent Care clinic. Luckily, they sent me to the ER at Baptist immediately. It was kidney stones. NOT fun. After checking in, it only took about 15 minutes for them to call me back, which you'll recognize is basically amazing, if you've ever had to wait in the ER before. I was expecting to wait for at least an hour in terrible pain. From the time I arrived to the time that I left, the next evening, every single doctor, nurse, and staff member I encountered was the most helpful, compassionate, and competent person one could imagine. Despite the fact that I was in the worst pain of my life, I was actually genuinely HAPPY during my stay. They have one heck of a workplace culture at Baptist, and that makes for the best hospital experience for which I could have asked! read more

New Patient and newcomers to SAN Antonio-RUN WAY from this place! If you have excellent health insurance dont even glance! THIS is the low income wing of BAptist! Building is 1940's standards. Dirty,unsanitary full of poor and homeless and a risk of catching infections! In November 2014 I made the stupid decision to schedule a lung function test here(for the reason this place could put me in three days before another Baptist location). This test was not urgent. I just didn't know all Baptists are not created equal. I have one the best health insurance plans in the country through employer benefits. I got a severe respiratory tract infection the next morning after being in their respiratory therapy testing center and after being exposed to their decades old machines. Ended up with severe congestion, cough, conjunctivitis, headache , fever, sore throat . Life was hell for a week. I have never got an infection like this before. Also, I did not have any problems before I went there. I have mild asthma and my doctor had ordered this test upon me asking. Ended up really bad. The respiratory therapy testing room will kill you. You know why!All kinds of severely ill people including homeless and dying are tested there and when combined that with their lower notch cleaning and sterilization.! Let me explain in easy language-This place is for the uninsured and for people who barely have insurance and the homeless and poor. If you have really great insurance please don't make the mistake like me and expose yourself to this trashy place. I am sorry I dis not read the reviews before I accepted the appointment at this place. There was nothing wrong with the office staff, they like more people coming and like to keep their jobs. I do not know about the ER there. I did not know that the same hospital chain can be great and modern (north Central location) to- you will catch a disease and falling apart with 1950's facilities. when I go to a chain I expect the same standards-but in a hospital it is never that way. Learned the hard way. Why do they want to keep this hospital open? Could be their charity wing for low income! Nothing wrong with that! But someone with good insurance should never even venture out to that building. BTW I have nothing against the homeless or poor. This is to inform future customers of this hospital. Found from further research-St Lukes Baptist is not this bad,and a bit better.Mission Trails is new and better. North east is 70's facilities and ok. North central is the only one to consider if you have good insurance. read more
