I called owner Joe Mattos to come out and trim a couple of branches and get his advice. We had a walk through and then the next day two workers, Roger and Fernando, came out. After talking with me, Roger mentioned he saw I liked things to look natural. I thought they would stay one hour and instead stayed most of the day. I left for several hours. When I came home, the workers were gone and right away I saw that everything had been cleaned up. I was shocked at the difference in my house both inside and out. I had gotten used to more of a funky look outside. Roger and Fernando opened everything up yet kept the natural look. I did a double take when I came into my home and saw the difference. I've used Quality Tree Care twice on our home now. Both times there was a bit of wait due to lead times; probably due to their fair pricing, politeness of the crew, attention to detail, and quality work. On our most recent job a large silver maple and it's trunk needed to be removed from close proximity to the house. It was cold and raining, and I was worried about our new lawn being damaged by heavy foot traffic and machinery, or a limb falling on the house. When Quality Tree Care arrived the five (5) workers laid 12 sheets of 3/4 inch plywood over the lawn to it. Limbs were lowered carefully as they were cut, and the crew immediately removed them from the area. When the crew left our yard, three hours later, it was completely free of debris, They also trimmed limbs from a large sycamore tree that were brushing against the power line to our house and blocking the street light. I had them out yesterday to take down four smaller trees with stump grinding, cut back an overgrown oak, and clear about three years worth of dead fronds on three palms. Quality Tree Care did an amazing job for me. They promptly and efficiently helped me in a very stressful time. They also were very reasonably priced in a crisis situation where they could have exploited me with a higher price. I had a very large pine tree fall on both my house and a neighbor's house damaging both of our roofs among other things. It was also a dangerous tree removal situation. They promptly came out to give me an estimate, which I needed for my homeowners claim, and then also promptly executed the job with a high level of professionalism. After the crew completed the job they also cleaned up, leaving the area very clean. I rarely hire contractors to do work for me because I usually find them more concerned about money than quality, but I would highly recommend Quality Tree Care for others, and will use them again if the need arises. Joe and team did a great job removing two Monterey Pine trees from our backyard. I called on a Friday left a message and received a return call from Joe that afternoon. Scheduled an estimate the following Monday, Joe was on time, the estimate was emailed to me while we talked. After reviewing other quotes and choosing Quality Tree Care, Joe scheduled the removal for 3 days after I made my decision. Joe confirmed the night before the scheduled removal that his team led by Chris would arrive 0800 the next morning. The team was on time and immediately began setting up. Both trees were tricky in their own right, one dead the other very large (~65') with split and cracking limbs tucked into a back corner downslope of our lot. And the trees were situated near the fence intersection of all three adjoining neighbors. I worked from home the day the Quality Tree team came. My impression is that this is well run shop. On time, methodical, efficient, and safe are all adjectives that I saw the team embody. Both trees were down by noon. I have several large oaks on my hillside property that were overgrown, dangerously heavy and hanging too close to the ground over open space grassland that connects to my property. These trees are so big along the property line that they would have been a wildfire conduit right to my house which sits right underneath them as well. Quality Tree Care was referred to me by another tree trimming company that didn't want the job because the trees and job were bigger than what they felt comfortable with. The crew at Quality came in and safely and carefully trimmed the trees to lift them to a fire safe level off the ground and remove the dangerous weight that was high in the trees. Not only do I feel that the trees are completely safe now, they are beautifully trimmed and now look symmetrically balanced too. Everything was completely cleaned up and they made sure I was completely satisfied with their job before they left. We are amazed and completely happy with the work from Quality Tree Care. Joe came out and gave us a quote and let us know that his guys could come out the following day and take care of our trees. His quote was given on the spot and was completely reasonable and the job done was incredible. Joe is a really nice guy who seemed to know exactly what to do. The guys came out and took care of the two trees that were originally discussed and when I realized I wanted more done, they were able to take care of that too. Our yard looked better when they left that it had before hand. They took the time to not only pick up the branches and pieces of trunk but they raked up all of the leaves that had gathered on the grass. After our tree stump was yanked out of the ground they filled in the hole. Having never worked with anyone in this industry we didn't expect it and are totally happy. After talking to 4 different tree companies I chose to give Quality Tree Care my trust with 3 trees in my back yard. I am thrilled with my decision. The crew arrived on time, assessed the work to be done and discussed with me the plan in detail, then before I knew it two certified climbers has set up their gear and were working on my large ornamental pear tree, while another went to work on my two plums. I watched the entire process and was impressed with how the crew shaped, cut out dead wood unnecessary weight, preparing my tree for the next season, while maintaining it's shape and structure. Jose was the artist of the group and took pride in every cut he made. He assessed the job afterwards and made a few more last minute trims to complete the job. They followed safety procedures the entire time while their ground man cleaned and organized the job site throughout the job. The cleanup left my yard (and my neighbor's yard who was over hung by the Pear tree) just as clean as it was when they arrived. Joe's pricing was reasonable, and the results speak for themselves. Joe was at my house within 15 minutes of calling him to give me an estimate after a HUGE pine tree fell in our yard onto our deck and porch. He gave me a hand-written estimate that day and said he could do the job that week. It fell on a Monday and Joe's (professional & experienced) crew was there at 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning. They were there until 5:30 and if I hadn't been there the majority of the day, I would never had known they had been there (except for the missing tree, of course!). They swept, blew and moved everything back to where it had been. They were very careful about protecting the front lawn from heavy equipment and branches, too. Was recommended to Quality Tree Care by another tree service and told to contact Joe (owner). Joe was prompt in calling me back to schedule an appointment for a proposal for the work needed (which is the only reason I'm giving them 1 star) and gave us competitive pricing compared to some of the other companies I had called. When I contacted him to schedule a day for completing the work he didn't have his schedule with him and asked if he could call me back. Joe never called me back so I emailed and called him a second time in attempts to schedule a date. Again I was told he didn't have his schedule with him and that he'd call me that evening. It's now been almost a week since we've last spoken and needless to say I never received a call back. As I am typing this review I received a missed phone call from Joe who wanted to come to our house tomorrow to do the work... too bad I've already had another company come out and complete the work. Guess Quality Tree didn't need the work all that badly! We hired Quality Tree Care to remove two 65 ft plus tall, Monterey pine trees that were on their way out and a risk to nearby neighbors. Before hiring anyone, we checked each vendor's credentials with the California State Licensing Board. We learned that in order to remove large trees, which is a very high risk endeavor, the contractor must have a contractor's license with the CSLB, and also must have an approved classification of D49, which means they have a license to safely remove trees (many landscape companies are not licensed to remove trees). Also, the contractor must be bonded, have current insurance and workers compensation insurance, which protects the home owner should any mishaps happen while providing service. We found that almost all the small owned businesses were not licensed to do this work, and did not have workers compensation. The large businesses did have right credentials. We compared Joe's pricing to the larger vendors, and because his was a bit lower, and he could start on the projects sooner we hired Joe. We were completely satisfied with the service and clean-up his company provided. We will be hiring Joe for more tree trimming in the future and highly recommend him. read more

I have hired Joe and Quality Tree Care twice over the last several years. Joe was recommended to my by my friend and neighbor three and 1/2 years ago, after we had a horrible wind and rain storm and one of my very large live oak trees fell into my neighbor's yard. I had two other tree companies come and give me quotes and Joe was the least expensive and he also could be there the next day to cut the tree up and clean up the mess that the fallen oak had left behind. His crew did a great job. After the great experience I had before, I have just hired him again to cut down 5 large pine trees that were beginning to die and to trim back and shape several live and white oak trees and removed all the undergrowth in my back yard and along the hillside behind my house. The men he has working for him are wonderful. They cleaned up all of the branches and the yard looks like a park now. I would highly recommend him to anyone that wants "quality" work done. read more

Quality Tree Care removed three tall Cedar Deodars and trimmed two others on the uphill side of our property very close to the fence. They protected the fence with three large pieces of plywood and managed to work around two bird houses that were mounted near by. Joe helped us evaluate the options (trim, remove or a combination) and his team of five men were on time, polite and amazingly skilled. It was a pleasure to watch them handle such a difficult job and actually manage to be cheerful as they worked. We had four estimates, all of them were within $500 of each other. We selected Quality for three reasons: 1) they were able to grind the tree stumps using a small grinder, other companies indicated it would be too difficult to use their large grinders on the hillside; 2) we checked the Contractor's State License Board and Quality was licensed, bonded and had worker's comp; 3) their price was one of the lowest. The stump grinder broke down and as promised, they returned two days later to finish the job. We'd hire them again in a minute and our neighbors are lining up as well. read more

I contacted Joe Mattos for an estimate to cut some cypress trees in my yard. He came out a few days later and gave me a fair estimate. Within the next few days Roger and Fernando came out to do the work and they did the most beautiful job on my trees possible. They worked most of the day and cleaned up not only my yard but my neighbor's. They went next door and talked to him and asked if it was okay to come over to clean up some branches.
