Me and my boyfriend had purchased a 2 month old puppy from the pet store that works with this vet. The vet check our dog before he took her home and said she was fit for sale, which was a lie. They did not check her properly for everything she could have had and let her be sold. Over the next few days of us having her me and my boyfriend noticed her poops were getting liquidy and she wasn't as active. We took her here and they told us to give her medics for 10 days, they told us if she's not eating to bring her back. So we went home but I didn't feel comfortable not having her in what I thought would be professional care. They never gave us any updates on her, or ever bothered to call us, we would always have to call in order to know what's going on with our dog. They would have us wait for 45 minutes to 1 hour for them to come to the parking lot and we would have to call them to remind them we're still waiting. Not only that but they left our sick 2 month old puppy with out proper supervision and care over night and she dies alone. They gave us her medical records which was all disorganized and most of the "medical" notes written were our conversations not anything to do with our puppies health. Lastly the main vet there was very rude and yelled at me through the phone and was very insensitive about the situation and told us if we didn't like it to go sue. DO NOT COME HERE !!! read more

Quality Veterinary Care - My dog while she was with quality vet care. She smelled like she was sitting in her own urine and feces - Veterinarians Near Me - Elmont, New York

Our previous vet just retired and my fur baby has a bad eye infection. I called the vet that took over and left a message when there was no answer during normal business hours. I am in a panic and afraid she is going to lose an eye. Off of the yelp reviews I called QVC. They answered the phone, offered an appointment an hour later and we took it. We walked in and I am realizing now that there was no smell. I mean zero odor. In a nutshell, I only waited 10 minutes in the waiting room and saw the doctor within 2 minutes of the vet tech leaving the room. Dr Scire gave my fur baby a thorough exam. Reassured me that she was ok, prescribed the necessary medication and we will be following up with her next week. I have been to the 24 hour vet in Valley Stream and watch out, their billing is outrageous. We are checking out of the office and I am concerned because I haven't seen the bill yet. Now the bill, I don't think I was charged an emergency rate, just an office visit. Medication, reasonably priced, and testing, also reasonably priced. It doesn't get any better than that! I am surprised at the very high rating of this clinic and took my dog there based on these reviews. But I think these reviews are based on the owner of the establishment. There are currently 4 doctors working there. I brought my pet there twice. Once last year for a general check up. My mom who was with me encouraged me to go to another clinic for his tests and vaccines. I took her advice. This year, having spent a ton of money on my dog and other things, I decided to give this clinic another try. Big mistake. My dog was stuck four times for a heartworm test. I have never heard my dog scream and welp like that before. The tech stuck him twice and was unable to get it. He tried to tell me it wasn't as painful as it looked. I'm a respiratory therapist and draw arterial blood regularly and know which areas of the body are painful when stuck, especially if you can't get the blood. When I disagreed with him, he gave me a sassy, dismissive response and left. I asked for the doctor, who had examined him for about 10 minutes after I waited for almost an hour. The doctor was very polite and professional. Also, there was another tech who had brought me in, but didn't handle my dog who was very sweet, polite and empathetic. A Hispanic male with dark hair. Anyway, the doctor then stuck my dog another 2 times, barely getting enough blood to do the test. I asked him to withdraw the needle because I didn't want any damage to my dog's vein or any nearby nerves. He was able to "milk" the butterfly needle for enough blood to run the test. Thank God. My dog was tortured and traumatized. His paws were also very sore and a little swollen for days. He still doesn't want me to touch them. I would not only not return, but would never recommend this clinic to anyone. The staff is mostly friendly. But friendly does not compensate for not knowing what you're doing clinically. My dog is 10 yrs old and has had several blood draws. It has never taken 4 sticks to get his blood. But then again, it has always been done by doctors. Heartworm tests should be done by the doctors, who know anatomy. I hope the owner will see this and consider making blood draws solely the practice of the doctors. If the doctor who examined my dog was getting regular practice at work, he would have gotten the stick on the first try. On both visits, both the doctors only spent 10 minutes with me and my dog. I think they can spend an extra 5 minutes to do the blood draws and spare their patients undue pain and trauma. read more

I was pretty impressed with them. We thought our dog was really injured because one day it didn't want to stand up or walk and figured ok this is going to require xrays, MRI and a whole mess of testing. It was a Sunday but when we called the receptionist said - this sounds like an emergency and called the dog's regular vet who came in on her day off. She looked at the dog and said don't you remember several years ago she had the same thing - the knee gets displaced so she won't stand on it - not that she can't stand on it. She just said to watch her over the next day and gave us some anti inflammatory and something else. Sure enough that night the dog was up and walking. Another vet would have sent us for testing and charged us thousands. This is a caring vet that you can count on in a crisis and doesn't nickel and dime customers or order unnecessary and expensive tests while prescribing unnecessary medications. I am going to switch vets for my cats now too. read more

You know that rap song that goes "It's all about it's all about the money?" that song definitely fits this place. They might as well play it through a loud speaker. I mean most vets are all about the money, call it dogmatism (get it? Dogmatism) but I think vets genuinely don't care about other people pets, "it's all about the motherf***** money." But let's get to the point. Last month I brought my dog Foxy here( he's one of my profile pictures) because he was having back problems. Now his back problems usually do flare up at times but this time was pretty serious. I was giving him the medication that another vet previously prescribed him but it just wasn't working. So I went to Quality Vets for a difference in opinion. After they did a X-Ray, they found something in his stomach. Ok let's get a look at the pictures. I didn't see anything in his stomach through the X-Rays, my mom didn't either but ok, what is there to be done about this strange object in my dogs stomach you ask? I don't remember the name of the procedure but let's just call it "stomach pumping for dogs." The vet told me the stomach pumping might need to be done more than once and the bill can go up to about $650. "Are you sure there is something in his stomach?" I asked. "Yes we even did a second X-Ray to make sure because something didn't look right." After she told me that I was pissed. What did she not see in the first one that she needed to do a second one? Let me paint you a picture of what I think happened. Vet assistant:"Hmmm, Dr. Doolittle, what is that in Foxy's stomach? Dr. Doolittle: I don't know. Vet assistant: Wait! Is that a.....? Dr. Doolittle: I'm just as confused as you, it looks like the letter "S" with a vertical line going through it." Vet assistant: A dollar sign? Dr. Doolittle: I'm not sure but let's do a second one to make sure. And that is how they ended up giving my dog two X-Rays. Well after speaking with the doctor, my mother said she didn't believe that there was anything in his stomach so she asked if they can do an alternative and just treat his back because my mother was pretty sure there was nothing stuck in his stomach. They prescribed us a painkiller and some other medication and gave Foxy a shot. The point of the shot was to see if he would throw up and if he did then that indicated he has something in his stomach and if he did throw up within 24 hours then they would have to do the "stomach pump for dogs. Long story short, Foxy did not throw up within 24 hours. My mother and I were stick and tired of bringing Foxy to vets because we believe that the practice of vets are in humane. Vets know how much people love their pets and are very willing to take advantage of an owner and tell the owner that their pet needs something it doesn't need. Where are all the honest vets? All in all, my boy Foxy is healthy now. My mother discovered a new supplement for him to take and it worked! read more

I woke up to the sound of my dog choking and gasping for air. I panicked and started looking for a new vet, because many of them are rip offs. They are more concerned with the money then they are the well being of the dog and owner. I found QVC on Yelp and they had excellent ratings, so I gave them a call. On my way to my appointment, my dog had an episode and I thought she had passed away in my arms. She came to a few minutes later as I was rushing to to QVC. I ran into the building and said "Help me!" They rushed her into the exam room and immediately began to save my dogs life. Although I found out she has a heart condition, she's alive and sitting on a pillow next to me sleeping. She wouldn't be here without them. Dr. Metheny and her staff gave me a ton of information, options, but more importantly, compassion. I can't thank them enough and I don't care how far you have to travel... They are totally worth it. I tried this veterinary hospital after losing my veterinarian due to an injury that left her unable to work. It was very hard finding a new vet because I used the same vet for 9 years and she is the best. I met with several veterinarians and practice owners at different hospitals, compared prices, medical procedures etc. I have 5 pets of my own and I do animal rescue so I need a great doctor. I was VERY impressed with the office manager at Quality vet she was professional and very informative on the phone. After meeting her in person I was even happier. I met with Dr Mehlrose the practice owner and I chose to try Quality Vet. I brought in an 8 month old rescue cat, I saw Dr Metheny, she was very thorough and professional. I also brought in a dog for a surgery consult , the doctor was honest told me surgery is not needed now. I will definitly use this hospital for all of the animals care. The tech staff is friendly. I have been to Quality Veterinarian Care with my Dog a few times and I have never had any complaints. Two years ago my family and I went away and put our dog at another local Veterinary Clinic that had a place for Roscoe to stay while we were away. He had to get a few shots and his ears cleaned, the prices were crazy, same with another local animal hospital that has around one star on Yelp for ripping people off. I cant say enough about Dr.Mehlrose and the quality vet staff.They have been caring for my two dogs for over 10years.My girl dog Caviar just died from thyroid cancer, March 17,2015.The staff are kind,caring compassionate,and professional.Dr.Mehlrose was always kind to me and my little ones.He explained treatments,surgeries and follow up care,for caviar right to the end of her time. It's rather interesting that some of the negative reviews are not shown here! I was bringing my Maltese to this facility for 12 years ( her entire life). I can admit although there were times were my Lola was taken care of in the best manner there were also times where I was over charged and given a ton of prescriptions and medications that never worked. I would bring her back and spend another few hundred. Last Friday I brought my Lola into their office an hour before closing for a severe cough. Lola had a heart murmur and we knew she didn't have much time. I REQUESTED for Lola to receive an xray because of her coughing. Rather the doctor gave her an Lasix injection and sent her home with over $100 in medications. The doctor told me that very night Lola had another year in her. Unfortunately, Lola collapsed 45 minutes after we left that office, in our kitchen. She was rushed to an ER where they told me that she had to be put to sleep. The ER facility was shocked that I had just come from a veterinary office and stunned as to why they wouldn't have done the xray I requested. Instead of Quality Veterinary Care informing us Lola's chances they sent us home with over a $200 bill, where I also spent $522 in the ER office. I called Quality Vet Care to see if it was possible to even refund the prescriptions to take that money and put towards a cremation for Lola, the office said no, sorry. Although I am aware they cannot resell prescriptions, out of common decency refunding at least the $100 for the prescriptions would of shown some sort of compassion. My opinion is they knew she was going to die, they wanted to get money out of me. Having my pet die in our home during dinner was one of the most traumatizing experiences yet and I am extremely disappointed after 12 years of service this facility did this to me. read more

Dr. Lieberman was the best... I took my 2 year old Shih Tsu for a regular check up.. we found that she had a skin infection and Dr. Lieberman made sure to look at it good even if it meant shaving part of my dog to see the full extent of the infection. Ended up with 2 oral medications and a cream... in all i thought i couldnt afford it, but when i got the bill i was suprised. Dr. Lieberman was sure to let me know the price before leaving the exam room, and the price she gave me was what they charged me. they also gave me free 30day pet insurance and $12 mail in rebate for my dogs heartworm pills. they did all they could to make sure it was in my price range. I cant wait to take Harley back for her check up in 2 weeks. read more

The Doctors, the staff, the techs even down to the furry friends that run around are amazing!! Think twice before bringing your pet here. My cat Halo was under the care of Dr. Lieberman for 5 days..and after $600.00 of tests..no real diagnosis for his condition..maybe kidney failure or maybe blood parasites..said leave him for more testing..$$$..I took him home since they didn't know anymore than I did...Three weeks later he needed to be put to sleep....he was suffering....And Quality Vet..said No...my son called to bring him in as I was in Calif...they said we need a fax......didn't care that he was suffering..they couldn't care less....no worries brought him to A&A on Franklin ave..they were very compassionate...and p.s . I'm a new pet owner and was anxious about the vet experience from the start for my 12 week old Chihuahua "Chica". I've heard many horror stories about substandard and expensive Vet care. Well. It was one of the best experiences I have had so far with my perfect little pup. The staff seemed as excited about taking in my pup as I was when I first took her home. All were so friendly warm and caring. They treated her like a star. Everyone came in to see her. They all wanted to be the tech to help with her. Made me feel special. And the techs and doctor were very gentle with my girl. She had flea and tick parasite and kennel caught meds and a full checkup done. And a follow up call later. When I left, I felt like I was getting away with something because of the small fee. Such good care for so little money. I'm surprised this place isn't swamped with patients. .?? The Vets @ Quality in Elmont are caring and kind to all the Pets that go there for care.. I have been bringing my Cats & Dog to Dr. Melrose for many years.He is a fantastic Veterinarian. Dr. Melrose truly has respect for every Pet that is treated by him. He was so wonderful with my cat Sabrina. She lived for 20 years with all thanks going to Quality Veterinary Care, Dr. Melrose and staff. Everyone that works at Quality has always been caring and professional. My Pets and myself treated with the utmost of professionalism. If not for the correct diagnosis of my senior feline Sabrina, she would have passed away a lot sooner than she did. My wife and I brought our dog here every three to five days for two months for a scratched cornea and an ear infection. We spent about $1300 plus cab fare and we fell behind on bills not to mention the anguish this put us thru. Dr. Mihlrose kept telling us to go see an ophthalmologist. My wife and I thought he must get a commission and he finally told us he needs a cat-scan for his ear infection and my wife would have ran if we had the money because she loves this dog so much. Well after two flat out lies we decided to bring him to a new Vet and guess what ? The eye we've been spending so much money on and the same eye the no good Vet wanted us to bring to a specialist is a blind eye. And he didn't need a cat-scan either. I was so upset I asked Dr. Mihlrose for half the money back or $600.. He would only be doing the right thing .and he refused........so I will have to go to small claims court. read more
