There's even a community board towards the bathroom, which gives this spot a community-based vibe. It's a quick, casual spot with several tables open for grabs when people leave. I got a traditional everything bagel w cream cheese to start the day, which had the RIGHT amt of cream cheese. Sometimes places give wayy too much, ruining the exp. I also ordered their popular Sumac Chicken sandwich on their Dutch Crunch bread, which was really good!! The bread had a slight sweetness to it that was satisfying and the flavors altogether were soo yummy. I waited ~12 min for my order, since they were rightfully packed. No outside food/drinks allowed if you're grabbing a table to eat. There's WiFi and a restroom in the back. Lots of neighborhood regulars. Bonus points that their food is halal for those w dietary restrictions. Great neighborhood spot!!

Dutch bread. Absolutely a powerhouse sandwich. I also loved the patio seating outside. Wonderfully beautiful setting. Definitely a great place for a work lunch meeting or study session. Service was quick as a flash, but the taste was a blast.

Service was very slow, but the place was busy so we understood. Kitchen was extremely slow. Again we understood. Our food was very good. After watching desserts pass by our table all night we flagged down our waiter to order. We were told that we'd have to leave without dessert or coffee because our 90 minutes was almost up. We told him that most of that 90 minutes was spent waiting to order and waiting for our food. He spoke to his manager who confirmed that we'd have to leave. Terrible business model. With so many restaurant choices in Chicago, we won't be returning.

I had a 8:30pm reservation but they keep seating up until 9 when they closed; with a 15 min buffer. Everything had to be order all at once, including drinks and food. The dark interior is honestly very aesthetic and adds a moody vibe. I had the fish and grits, which was a HUGE portion, and the cornbread was insanely good as well. I was between that and the biscuits. I recommend the uncle honey as a drink because the flavors mix together so well! Also get the Millie's pudding (banana pudding) for dessert! Prices are also so reasonable for the portion size as well. Highly recommend going if you can get a reservation; which are sometimes hard to do. Will be back!

It's a place in Hyde Park I'd been looking to try another spot but of course it was closed. Back to searching and we found this spot and what a gem! Sammy, greeted us and she was absolutely lovely! It's a local spot in Hyde Park and the decor is amazing! I had a special, jerk mushroom taco plate with beans, rice, plantains and pico de gallo. Hubby had the Mediterranean plate with oyster mushrooms. Amazing! We were given complimentary lemonade in celebration of Juneteenth, thank you so much! They have vegan cookies and we enjoyed a lemon blueberry cookie and it was delicious! We truly enjoyed our meal and the chance to trying out a new spot! Support local businesses!

The burger is sooo juicy and everything is full of spice and flavor. My girl had the vegan option for the burger which is made from a mushroom. THAT was great too!!! I can't wait to come back to try the many other dishes. The prices are very fair compared to what you get. There are NO "surprise" hidden fees or service charges on your check. Sammy at the counter was most helpful. She also told me to my surprise that the current location has been there for 17 years!. I've told 3 of my friends last week and they all have since been there and are now big fans. ENJOY!!!!

When I walked in, there were a total of 6 customers including myself in the restaurant; a couple together in line and 3 already sitting. The cashier had a chill vibe overall. I ordered Biscuits & Gravy w/soft scrambled eggs and drip black coffee. Total with tip; $28.44. I sat myself and waited probably no longer than ten minutes and a gentlemen brought my food out. Presentation was decent, but... The food wasn't hot whatsoever. For them to only have 6 guests and during what would be deemed breakfast time, it indicates they weren't busy. So I didn't understand the cold food. The gravy was lukewarm at best, the biscuits definitely tasted like day old and were so salty in certain bites. They were flaky and really good in other bites. The eggs were the same; lukewarm. It was as if the food was made and sat on the counter the ten minutes I waited. In terms of flavor, it was decent, but the inconsistencies and temperature leaves room for improvement. Not sure I'll be returning unfortunately.
