This place is great. I love all the options you can pick. The food taste so good. They have vegan cheese and meat. Also their Mac and cheese is really good. I loved how fresh the kale was. They also have some healthy drinks like their beet drink. Additionally the restaurant and seating area is always clean and welcoming. I like how they have some fridge items you can look at before ordering. It's also nice that they have a large window looking out. The staff are always helpful and efficient with orders. This place is definitely a great place for vegans if you're in the area

It's Lenten season, which means I'm exploring more vegetarian and vegan spots throughout March. This time, I stopped by Soul Veg City at 203 E. 75th St. Soul Veg has been around for years. I remember coming here back in 2013 just for their fried mushrooms. They've long been a South Side staple for soul-style vegetarian food. The atmosphere has shifted a bit as of 2026. It now operates more like a lunch counter, though there is still a small seating area in the back. Just note that everything is served to-go, even if you dine in, no traditional plates. It's a popular spot, so depending on when you go, there may be a bit of a wait. That said, the food is absolutely worth it. I tried a variety of items, including cauliflower, barbecue seitan, dressing, and noodles, and everything was delicious. The flavors were rich, comforting, and exactly what you want from soul food. The portions were generous, but not so heavy that I felt overly stuffed. If you're looking for a standout vegetarian option, this is a must-visit. It's also a Black-owned business and a true staple on the South Side. Honestly, if you enjoy vegetarian food, Soul Veg City is worth the trip. This is how you season food. 5 out of 5 stars.

Wow vegan food is so yummy bc of Soul Veg. All the food was great including the kale and Mac and Cheese. The only dishes I didn't care for: Southwest Salad - bland and too much paprika Jerk Bites - way too spicy! Make sure the kids don't get to it.

Veganism- can be an act of love for others, for the planet, and for yourself. Often times, it can be difficult to be expressive when you are limited by what you can eat. So, why not create a place where you're not limited? Every item or option is possible for you to try. My wife is vegan, and we often take time whenever we go to Chicago to try a different vegan spot. This time, we were on the South Side and decided to try this place. Soul Veg City- even older than the Chicago Diner. A place where the proteins are flavorful, and the ambiance is that of music and just being carefree and healthy. Plenty of sitting options, and take-out as well. You can get stuff from the hot bar for $9.99/lb. Or order off the menu. I got the Italian V and my wife got the Spicy Chicken. The citrus smoothie was fire. My Italian V sandwich was huge and spicy. The chicken and waffle fries were great. Service was quick, and they bring the food to you. Would rate this place 8.7/10 South Side is not somewhere we usually are, but this is worth checking out. Particularly if maybe you're doing business at Costco Business in Cicero and need to try something unique while in the south side

Food it's still great as ever. Sometimes I think I should try more restaurants in cities like Chicago that I have been to a lot. but when you have a proven winner with the food like Soul Veg for almost 25 years of me being a customer why go off the beaten path. Fishless sandwich fries and onions rings 5/5 Protein tibits(not pictured) 5/5. If you plan to order off the hot bar you probably would be better going inside and ordering. If you are ordering food not on the hot bar, it would be best to order online for To go orders. Parking can sometimes still be tough to find but Definitely check them out!!! Lol

Mac and cheese, dressing, sweet potatoes, cabbage, ribs, bbq seitan, peach pie. All from the hot bar.

Wow. Incredible. Words can't describe it! So incredibly flavorful. Our favorite is to just order from the daily changing hot bar. Our favorites to get are the mac and cheese as well as whatever bbq meats they have available that day. Everything here is vegan! We also got the "Italian V" one time and it wasn't our favorite, but it was still pretty good. We just stick to the hot bar now. We have also tried their ice cream and smoothies and they're both really great too! The staff and the overall ambiance of the restaurant is both very happy and joyous. Everyone there always makes you feel welcomed and makes you want to return. Parking can sometimes be a little difficult as I believe there is only street parking. We have returned multiple times here and each time we are blown away! We look forward to continuing to visit Soul Veg City for their amazing vegan soul food. Soul City Veg has become our new favorite vegan restaurant in Chicago. A+. If you like flavorful food, friendly staff, and a clean restaurant you need to visit here!

One of the few places in the city that serves a good and authentic vegan breakfast. I tried the Full Breakfast which includes 4 sides of your choice. I went with the pancakes, breakfast patty, tofu scramble, and hash browns. I'd have to say my favorites were the hash browns and the scramble. I wasn't crazy about the breakfast patty nor was my boyfriend who's vegan and wish they had the bacon available that morning. The staff were very personable and friendly. They make you feel very welcome. As for the restaurant itself, it is very spacious. They have a large dining room which I didn't get a photo of behind me to show the true scale of it. They offer a bunch of drinks in fridges along the wall and their cake selection was honestly impressive. My boyfriend and I were definitely impressed, and we'll surely be back!

I have been slowly switching to a vegan diet so I had this spot on my to visit list. It's located on the southeast corner. Found street parking in front. Door situation a bit confusing but made it in. A nice guy assisted with me placing order. I want a bunch of this and that so I ordered from the hot bar. He was patient with me and explained everything. Next time I will know. Also placed order for a fruit juice and smoothie drinks. Place was clean, contemporary, nice music, friendly staff. I took tray home and ate the tips, kale and mac & cheese which were good. Will eat on the rest later today. I will be back guys.

Coming from California it was a pleasant surprise to find a vegan restaurant so easily. The food here is amazing and the service was great! My favorites were the sweet potatoes and the Mac n cheese. The vibe when I walked in reminded me of a popular favorite back in LA called Simply Wholesome. Overall great experience!! I'll definitely be back around to try more items (:

Soul Veg City has been on my radar for a while, and my husband and I were finally able to head over there for a Saturday lunch. They have several things on their menu that look good, but I was most intrigued by their hot bar so we could try a few different food items. We tried about 5 different items, and everything was delicious. My fave was probably the mac and cheese. The hot bar is $9.95 per lb, and our container of food ended up costing about $16. We shared a Peanut Butter and Berry Smoothie, which is a bit pricey at $8, but it was really tasty. I scooped up a piece of Sweet Potato Pie before I'd noticed that there were even more dessert options I could have selected from. Sweet Potato probably wouldn't have been my top choice out of all the other cake flavors they had available, but honestly, no regrets. There is a spacious area for dining, so we sat down to enjoy our food. Counter service was attentive, and I am already looking forward to a return visit. I did notice on their Yelp page that they have had some Health Code Violations, so I'm really hoping they're able to resolve those so they can continue to make delicious vegan food in a healthy environment, https://www.yelp.com/inspections/soul-veg-city-chicago.

Easily the best Mac and cheese in the city, and it's vegan. I'm not even vegan, and this was some of the best soul food I've had in a while.

Not only was he knowledgeable about the menu, but his food and drink recommendations were spot on--10 out of 10. Every suggestion enhanced our experience and showed a true understanding of both the menu and the guest experience. What impressed me most, however, was watching him during a packed Sunday brunch. Despite the rush, TeJuan took the time to coach another server, explaining why certain cocktails needed to be shaken rather than stirred. That moment revealed so much about his character and professionalism. He wasn't just serving guests--he was developing his team while maintaining an incredible level of service. Watching him command the bar was remarkable. He moved with grace, kindness, confidence, and a gentle assertiveness that kept everything running smoothly. He balanced teaching, serving, multitasking, and hospitality in a way that every customer service professional should strive to emulate. TeJuan represents the very best of what hospitality should be. Employees like him are the reason customers return. In fact, I'd come back all the way from Washington, DC just to have another "TeJuan experience." Dawn Eatery is fortunate to have him on their team- he deserves recognition for the outstanding work he does.

The servers are great and attentive. The food does not disappoint! I love the pot roast and jalapeño cheddar grits. That is sooooo good you cannot go wrong ordering that. I've also had the fried catfish on top of the jalapeño cheddar grits, and it was delicious as well! The French toast is very good as well. I tried the fried chicken for the first time during my last visit, and it was impressed. Overall, this is a nice establishment with good food options. They serve breakfast all day, so you don't have to go at a certain time of day to try it. I recommend booking a reservation during the weekends because they can get pretty busy. Parking on the streets is limited, but there is a parking garage around the corner that allows visitors to park on the top floor. Go check them out for some delicious food and drinks!
