Dinner during the Barre Heritage Festival. We were a party of 3. After sitting down, we ordered ordered our drink after finally having a waitress as us after 30 minutes. Then she took our order, we asked for an appetizer, they were out. We then ordered our meals, two burgers and a steak bomb sandwich. After an hour we got our drinks and a new appetizer of spinach artichoke dip, it was mediocre at best. Then came the food 45 minutes later missing French fries and pickles on mine, no pickles for my husband and just a few fries. It too the poor little waitress 30 minutes to find out they ran out of fries about pickles. This is another local restaurant going to crash and burn. The poor 3 top next to us waited over an hour for 3 salads. I spoke with some of the other customers who expressed they wouldn't be returning as we would not. So disappointing. read more

Has a bar, table spacing is short, so you are able to hear the conversation on the next table. We went there when there are only a few diners, but i could imagine if it was full then probably it is a hectic place to go. Food is above average in taste, we ordered the fish and chips, sandwich and their quarry burger and steak. Servers were nice and attentive. I ordered a Caesar salad with fried calamari. When it came, the calamari was cold. When I brought this to the attention of the waitress, she asked me if I wanted to "pick it off the salad" and she could ask the kitchen to re-fry it. I was so taken aback by that suggestion that I didn't even know what to say. I said I was not going to pick it off my salad and that was her only suggestion. I have never had a waitress ask if I wanted to pick food off my plate. And by the way, I was charged for the full amount. Pretty sure I won't be going back soon. read more

The chicken was so tough we could not cut it. When I told the waitress she said she would bring me a shaper knife. I said I would rather have a tender piece of chicken. She said we cannot be responsible for the chicken not being tender. I said, of course you are. Yor responsible for everything that comes out of the kitchen that your chef cooks. I had the Saturday chicken piccata special. It was very good! It was hot, fresh, and ready on time. My only complaint is that they didn't flatten the chicken. Every piccata has flat chicken. Otherwise a very good experience. I will definitely be back. read more

On our first visit to Barre, we stopped here for lunch on a Monday afternoon. It was pretty quiet inside with only a handful of customers. The service was nice and friendly, but it was the food that really disappointed us. - Vermont burger with fries: specials board item and recommended by server lady. Came with a 6-ounce beef patty, lettuce, tomato, and onions on a sesame seeds bun. The fries were a major letdown because they were limp and soggy. None of us came even close to finishing the fries in the end. The bun was cool as if it came straight out of a cool room, and it was too thick and bread-y. Bacon could have used more crispness, and the patty was overcooked (requested medium but served well done). 2.5/5 - Fish and chips: fish was hot and tender, but again, the fries were disastrous. Our consensus was that it may have been old cooking oil, and it was evident in the dark colours on the fries as well as the fish. Still, the fish was the only saving grace on this visit. 3.5/5 - Grilled chicken and bacon wrap with fries: since this was also off the day's specials board, I was hoping for something unique and enjoyable. What I got was a run-of-the-mill chicken wrap with the same limp and soggy fries on the side. 2/5 All in all, those fries should never have left the kitchen, and the front of house staff should have stopped them from being served otherwise. It's safe to say that we wouldn't mind not going back, but I wish them well. read more

The food was very tasteful. Service was amazing, very polite, and courteous. However, once we were done eating, I decided to use the restroom, and staff directed me to the restroom beside the kitchen. Once I approached the restroom, I had a glance at the kitchen, and to be honest, I wanted to . The kitchen is filthy and not sanitary at all. Suggestions for restaurant owners stay up to code with the health department because someone can get very sick due to the conditions of the cleanliness of your kitchen. We went on an impulse on a very hot summer evening. Everything was fine for starters. They offer two sizes of hamburger, which I appreciate because who really needs a half pound of meat? They also had a good macaroni and cheese, which is our grand granddaughter's favorite dish, so we were pretty happy. Until our granddaughter found a hair in her food. Okay, it happens, nobody freaked out about it. The problem is that the restaurant's response was wholly inadequate. We had her stop eating but the waitress just left it on the table and didn't bring a replacement order. Then, when the check came, the only adjustment offered was 10% off the macaroni and cheese. I called her over and she didn't give me a hard time when I asked her to remove the charge completely, but that should have been automatic. We'll go back but this experience was not up to any reasonable standard. read more

We went here twice. Due to COVID we did pick up both times. The first time we went, I parked right outside, and my husband went in to get food, and it wasn't ready. They offered to bring it out to us, which was nice, until they never did. My husband finally went in after 30 minutes of us sitting in our car, and our food was just on the counter. Went home, and the sauce was missing from one burger, and the other was overcooked. Gave them a second chance, ordered burgers to go again. Same exact thing happened. Got there, food not ready, offered to bring it to us, never did. Went inside, food cold on counter. When my husband asked for the food to be corrected since it was ice cold and soggy now, they went in back and brought out food after another 10 minutes. Got home, IT WAS SOMEONE ELSES ORDER. They were rude the whole time, and not helpful. Never going back there again. There are better options in town, go elsewhere and save yourself from wrong food, and terrible service. read more

Just stop in for a quick lunch and with COVID we should have made reservations not knowing the rules. But they were very accommodating to get us a seat. For food we has 2 sandwiches that came with delicious French fries by the was the sandwiches were great. I do recommend Quarry kitchen because of the menu and service. Went in for an early dinner 4:30 in the afternoon, stood in entry sign said wait to be seated. Took quite awhile for someone to come see us and seat us. We were looking at the menu told waitress with several tattoos what we wanted to order, she said she was not sure if new guy knew how to make it. She suggested to us to oder a drink and some apps since another cook would be in at 5. We got drinks and mozzarella sticks, then waitress came back and said we could order. One ordered Taco Salad, other person chicken Alfredo and broccoli, I ordered salmon, asparagus and risotto. Taco salad did not come with guacamole per menu, waitress said that was a typo and laughed and told her she could have some for $2 more. Mine dinner came with cold mashed potatoes, no risotto, smallest piece of salmon I have ever seen asparagus was over cooked mushy and charred. The waitress did get me some risotto it was okay. I had high hopes. It looked like a nice place when I sat down. The waitress was friendly, but scarce. We waited 55 minutes for our food.. we saw her once. When the food arrived it was not what I ordered.. no big deal.. I wanted a salad in place of potatoes. Not going to make an issue of that. I cut into the steak that I ordered medium. It was not. Again.. I understand. Things happen. It was still edible.. until the center.. it wouldn't even be considered rare. I told our waitress during her 2nd visit to our table about the meal. The service was good, but that was about it. My daughter had the homemade Mac and cheese, she loves all Mac and cheese and said it taste funny. I took a bite and it tasted like they used rotten milk or cheese. The kids portion is just over $5 and does not even come with a drink. My mother and I had the tuna melt special that comes with a handful of chips, which was almost $10! The low quality tuna was not fully mixed with the watered down mayo, so was very dry. Visited again and it continues to improve, but also continues to be just missing the mark. The interior looks really great - they did a nice job with that, and the beer menu continues to impress. For appetizers, we tried the cheesy fries with bacon and some buffalo wings. the wings were better than the last time I had them, perfectly cooked, and the sauce was spicy and buttery. The cheese fries were good - especially the fries, and the super crispy bacon. The cheese sauce was basically cheese wiz - which isn't bad, but it would be easy to elevate it with a few chopped chives for a fresh bite, and the fries could have used some salt. We both had burgers, and once again the fries were excellent, as were my onion rings. Both burgers tasted good, but were cooked past the medium that we asked for - my wife's more than mine. If the burger had been cooked properly, it would have been a much better meal. Another stumbling point was the time it takes for the food to come out - it took a very long time for our appetizers to come out. The service is good however - I think it continues to be an issue of timing with the kitchen. read more

I have given this establishment 3 chances each time the food was adequate at best. Their downfall was the service the first trip was quite slow, but they were fairly busy . Taking this into account we gave them a second shot. This time it was much more quiet so I wasn't happy to have to go to the bar for my second beer only to find our waitress leaning upon it. The final strike was during Home Coming. We chose our meal and then were told that they were only serving their lunch menu. We all chose a different meal from that menu. When I stated that I would like a flat bread pizza from the lunch menu I was told that this too was not a option. At this point we chose to finish our drinks and asked for the check. read more

A while back we visited the Quarry a few times - the food and service were disappointing so we didn't go back for almost 3yrs until we decided to give it another try this summer. Our first few visits were great! Service was excellent and we had no complaints about food. We went back recently and we're disappointed. There was a notice on bar that the menu was changing and some of the pricing would be different when we got our bill. We didn't think anything of it, in our minds the pricing wouldn't have been that much different but my 1/2 order of Buffalo wings were $3 more! $8.99 on menu and final bill showed $11.99. If I had known that I wouldn't have ordered them - it was a half serving of boneless nuggets soaked in sauce. The difference on some of the other items ranged from $1.50-$2.00. I understand prices change but maybe not until a final menu is published should we be charged. The service that night wasn't great either - there were a few issues with the service but I'm hoping we just hit them on an off night but it'll be a while before we go back. read more

We were here a couple of months ago and it was really good. Decided to stop in for lunch again; it definitely was not the same place (menu was different). I ordered your average Caesar salad with steak. The salad was average but the steak was horrible. I fully appreciate a good salad with some steak but this just was not good. The steak was full of gristle in almost every bite I took. I maybe took 7 bites total and couldn't even eat half the salad, where I normally can finish a pretty big plate of anything. My boyfriend ordered a BTL with a cup of clam chowder. He thought the chowder wasn't bad but just a bit watery. Didn't seem too pleased with his BTL either, he says a four year old could have made that sandwich.. Maybe we are just incredibly picky eaters. We do go out to eat a lot because of our love for good food. Overall we were definitely disappointed with the food there, maybe we just came at an off day. I had a gift card, so my wife and I stopped for a late lunch after a morning of skiing. We both ordered drinks and entrees from the specials listed by the door. Drinks arrived quickly, entrees took about 10 minutes(it was not busy). My wife's burger was very good, and I got a tuna melt which was good-except I'd ordered the chicken sandwich. When taking our order, the young waitress asked if we'd like regular fries, sweet potato fries or onion rings. Wife had sweet potato fries, I had rings. When we got the bill we were charged $1.50 for both "substitutions". (The first bill she brought was someone else's.) We did share an excellent piece of chocolate peanut butter pie for dessert. OK food, service was sub-par. If I'd been paying with my own money instead of a gift certificate I'd be more upset with the experience. read more

Relatively new restaurant in Barre and it's a nice breath of fresh air from the street stores that are barely surviving. Aside from Barre Dogs, there's hardly anything to look forward to eating at in Barre. The Quarry I hope is the start of a good turn in Barre business however. The employees they've hired have shown that they're very determined to give the best service they can and it shows. The menu isn't very large, but their portions certainly are. I have a very special place in my heart for any restaurant that sells Calamari. Seeing Calamari on the menu was certainly unexpected and when I saw that they flavor it with buffalo sauce, I nearly soiled myself from delight. I certainly hope this sets a trend for better businesses and adds to a more aesthetically pleasing Barre Main street. Keep it up guys! read more

I placed an order for 105 dollars worth of food from the Quarry in Barre, VT. The order was made at 4pm to be picked up a 6pm. I ordered 2 bowls of clam chowder and 2 extra onion pedal sauces. I paid for them but never received them. In addition, when I called to talk to the manager, I was hung up on. The second time I called and I explained the situation, I was told I could either have the manager call me back or be placed on hold again. I refused both and it did not seem the situation called for the managers immediate attention. read more

Very pleased to have stopped here 2/10/13 completely by chance! Sat at the nice clean bar for lunch, I had the veggie wrap which was very tasty and very hot when served (that's rare these days). A friend had a cheeseburger that he devoured in no time, and his stepson had the BLT w/ onion rings. We were all pleased with our meals and the gorgeous bartender was friendly and attentive. Obviously a real neighborhood watering hole, yet as total strangers wandering in off the street we were made to feel like regulars. Hostess greeted us right away - unlike the other two places in town we had tried before this one - so they immediately had our hearts - as well as stomachs. We sat at the bar. I had the quesadilla with "candied jalapenos." Don't let "candied" scare you; they're just slightly sweet. Just the right amounts of both jalapenos and cheese to my taste. My husband had the Reuben and I can say the sweet potato fries were great - we ate every last one; too often, French fries start out soggy and end up inedible by your meal's end; and/or there are lots of little burnt bits you don't want. We went there on July 4th. We were seated right away but then they kind of forgot about us. They brought us bread to make us feel better and it worked! We had an appetizer of mozzarella sticks and there were a lot of them and they were delicious! The Buffalo Chicken Wrap was really good and very spicy. It came with a generous side of delicious fries. My son had the Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich on a pretzel roll . He loved it and it was huge! Also came with fries! They had a great selection of beer too! If I lived here I would make this a regular spot! read more
