Has a bar, table spacing is short, so you are able to hear the conversation on the next table. We went there when there are only a few diners, but i could imagine if it was full then probably it is a hectic place to go. Food is above average in taste, we ordered the fish and chips, sandwich and their quarry burger and steak. Servers were nice and attentive. Iguess they need to change their soft drink dispensing machine since there are particles that are coming out of it. Attached is the menu

On our first visit to Barre, we stopped here for lunch on a Monday afternoon. It was pretty quiet inside with only a handful of customers. The service was nice and friendly, but it was the food that really disappointed us. - Vermont burger with fries: specials board item and recommended by server lady. Came with a 6-ounce beef patty, lettuce, tomato, and onions on a sesame seeds bun. The fries were a major letdown because they were limp and soggy. None of us came even close to finishing the fries in the end. The bun was cool as if it came straight out of a cool room, and it was too thick and bread-y. Bacon could have used more crispness, and the patty was overcooked (requested medium but served well done). 2.5/5 - Fish and chips: fish was hot and tender, but again, the fries were disastrous. Our consensus was that it may have been old cooking oil, and it was evident in the dark colours on the fries as well as the fish. Still, the fish was the only saving grace on this visit. 3.5/5 - Grilled chicken and bacon wrap with fries: since this was also off the day's specials board, I was hoping for something unique and enjoyable. What I got was a run-of-the-mill chicken wrap with the same limp and soggy fries on the side. 2/5 All in all, those fries should never have left the kitchen, and the front of house staff should have stopped them from being served otherwise. It's safe to say that we wouldn't mind not going back, but I wish them well.

Prime rib, garlic mashed potatos & bacon Brussels 4 him. For me: Pan seared scallops on mushroom risotto! melted in our mouth!!

Food was good but it took an hour for us to get our food. Three hungry children is not a pretty sight.

Food isn't that great, and it took forever to arrive. To be fair I think they were training a new waitress, but still.

Diane, John, and their crew of dedicated employees, opened this restaurant in the summer of 2020, in the middle of an international pandemic, and still managed to rise to the top as a fantastic, family-oriented, slow food restaurant in a small town with several well established restaurants as its base. Their idea was grounded in the "simple" grilled cheese sandwich, reimagined in some delightfully tasty presentations. The menu is modest and, other than seasonal specials, is steadfast in its design! I have eaten there more times than I can count and have YET to experience any deviation from the quality they presented at the outset! How many restaurants can attest to that, alone? The atmosphere is homey (it is a former home in a lovely neighborhood), the service is top-notch and the food is delicious. The management attends to every table at least once during your stay (so there was ample opportunity for this customer to express any concerns to the person in the best position to correct any issues), and the staff consists of community members who are our friends, neighbors, or children thereof. So special is this space, the youth servers appear every spring in their prom-best to have their pictures taken with Diane and John! How special is that???!!!! This is a team that places community at the center of their work: even facilitating massive community fundraising efforts post-flood, 2024 and 2025! If you live in this area, you already know what a gem this place is. If you are visiting, put a night out (or lunch) on your "must do" list while exploring Barre's rich granite industry history. If you haven't made Barre a stop on your journey, run, don't walk and see what the buzz is all about! See you at The Meltdown!

Four stars for the apple and fig sandwich and the tomato soup, since the sandwich was a little sweet and the soup more like a tomato sauce. We had a scallop po-boy and crab cake sammy for lunch, well after lunch rush. Servers were consistently friendly and helpful. Food came out promptly but both lacked taste. Crab cake was 80% breading, mushy. Scallops were hit and darkly crusted , but not tasty. Watermelon salad was good. Despite ordering bevs with food, none arrived till food was 2/3 eaten. Server's initial response was "waiting on the bar", tho they were apologetic after it took another long time. We could see the bartender chatting with customers and wiping things down, so suspect there was a teamwork issue. Seems like this business needs owner's TLC!

I also tried some waffle fries. The highlight of the dinner was the fried food. All of it was exceptionally crispy and flavorful: the tots and waffle fries had a hard crusty exterior with fluffy interior. The locals mushroom were a deep fried bunch of oyster mushrooms with a mayo pepper-based sauce drizzled on top. Very juicy and meaty bite! The burger was ok, not my favorite. I asked for it medium and it was closer to well done. The patty was on the drier side and had a charcoal aftertaste that was a bit on the overwhelming side. The bun was also not the freshest. Overall, skip the burger and opt for the fried stuff. Service: Nice and accommodating. Pretty standard. Ambiance: Old school vibes mixed with some modern aspects. Loved the live music playing during dinner.
