I mean, this food was absolutely mind boggling. Barbecue sandwiches 10/10. Burger 10/10. Drinks 10/10. Me and my friends were literally DROOLING. A little quote from my girl Lex," these fries are the best things I have put in my mouth and that's been a lot of things". Coming from her, that means a whole LOT. Our server was one of the nicest woman I have ever met in my entire life. She was nice, witty, welcoming, and sincere. The atmosphere and ambience was life changing. They played some good ole country toons and it was really some fun time. I mean I truly cannot give words to you how transforming this experience. ALSOOO big thing. The prices were PERFECTION. I honestly would charge more for these awesome meals. A little haiku I wrote for this place: I felt warm. I felt welcome. I felt home. Ps... my friend who has some issues in the tummy department said that after our meal.. her stomach was completely A-Okay!!! It's the little things in life.

I tried so hard to love this place. You really have no idea. In short, mostly mediocre food…read morecombined with one very shiesty action ruined the experience. I knew I had to stop at Cowboy's BBQ after I passed it a few times while looking at houses in Covington. Some of the best food that you'll find anywhere is often attached to a gas station. The good reviews and smells made me certain this was going to be great. At first glance, prices are amazing [more on this later...]. I ordered the 3 meat plate with brisket, ribs, and smoked chicken. I chose fries and mac n cheese for my sides. The mac n cheese carried an upcharge, but this is reasonably common for places to do. I agree with the one diner who said the brisket was amazing. I really enjoyed the brisket. The fries were also fine thanks how are you? Wish I had more good to say about this place. The ribs were very old and mediocre at best. I understand that food can't be cooked to order at a barbecue place, but even barbecue has a shelf life. The ribs that I was served should've long been chopped into a stew special or something along those lines. The smoked chicken was a disgusting insult. At first, I thought I was mistakenly served an additional side instead of smoked chicken. Unfortunately, their service style is off the bone and finely diced. Storing barbecue meats off the bone is a delicate process. You have to take extra care to ensure that it doesn't dry up in the hot box. Unfortunately, no care was taken, so the chicken was dry and tasteless. The mac n cheese was very low quality. I'll happily pay an upcharge for the good stuff that's baked. I'll grudgingly eat Kraft mac n cheese. I will not pay an upcharge for Kraft mac n cheese. Honestly, all of this would've made the experience probably worth 2 or even 3 stars, but they have an incredibly dishonest, unadvertised upcharge for credit cards. The surcharge is definitely higher than their cost to accept credit cards. Some businesses eat the cost of accepting credit cards. Other businesses pass this cost to the customer. Cowboy BBQ uses this as an opportunity to improve their margins by cheating their customers.

We were driving down 441 last week and remembered the sign at 59 pointing toward Smitty's. We said,…read morewe should go. in my email box this week is my weekly Yelp suggestions and what is at the top? Smitty's! It is a "plate of shrimp" moment of off we go. Smitty's is about a mile up 51 from the biggest truck stop interchange on 85. The building complex is a very cool set of older buildings that look like a barbecue restaurant. There is a giant stack of wood outside so this looks promising. When you go in, seats yourself and someone will be there to serve you right away. The menu is typical barbecue fare with a couple other items too. I ordered the brisket plate, Megan had a chicken fried steak. The brisket was tender and smokey with a little salt and pepper in the seasoning. It was good and meaty. The fries were good as was the okra. The stew was flavorful with tomato and corn. Megan's chicken fried steak was very good. It was beefy and tender and cooked just right. Her potato came with big cups of butter, cheese, and sour cream. And she ate her whole salad. This was a special road trip for use because of the Yelp suggestion. But if we are back in the area again we will defiantly hit them up again.

I've dined at Smitty's a fair amount of times, and it's overall been consistently good. Smitty's is…read morea place that serves barbecue and more. I usually come here to get brisket and then some combination of sides. If I'm feeling especially frisky, I like to go for the cheese fries. Request the spicy barbecue sauce with your meat. It's very well-made and elevates the meats to another level. Unless it's early week, I'd recommend maybe staying away from the chicken. The one time I ordered chicken here, it clearly sat in the hot box for too long. Smitty's has to navigate a challenging environment, and I can certainly respect them for it. It's tough operating a restaurant in a sparsely populated area. As a result, Smitty's has limited hours of operation. In lieu of daily specials, they do buffet only on Sundays. I'll have to take a star off because the service can be pretty poor. Yes, takeout orders also should receive good service, especially given the fact that I always tip. The amount of times I've been rushed out without any offering of plasticware, or sometimes even without offering me barbecue sauce, is frankly too high. In spite of the sometimes poor service, Smitty's is a very good restaurant that deserves community support.

Server stopped to take our drink order about 10 minutes later. Drinks arrived and we placed our very simple scoop and serve orders of pulled pork. Then we waited. And waited. Watched as others who ordered 30 minutes after us received their food. I was in the restaurant industry for 20 years, and I know bbq is 90% scoops and serve. Asked the server and she said it'll be out in 2 minutes. (Standard response). 15 minutes later my lady friend had had enough, as did I. Asked for the gm, who I assume wasn't available. Then our cold food arrived. And we were charged the full amount without any sort of apology. Almost 2 hours we waited for simple bbq. Here's my advice for the restaurant. When your kitchen or servers can't produce. Your managers need to "hold the door". Put the door on a 20-30 minute wait so you can catch up. Obviously there's a lack in management here, or at least there was on that day. They continued to seat folks and I kept asking myself (why?)

Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q…read more Fox Bros. has that hole-in-the-wall BBQ joint feel, but with plenty of space to hang out. There's a bar along with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the overall atmosphere is casual and laid-back. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and gave us some great recommendations, which definitely added to the experience. We went with the three-meat sampler and chose the brisket, ribs, and jalapeño cheddar sausage, with tots and the Fox-a-Roni for our sides. The Fox-a-Roni--a combination of their Brunswick stew and mac & cheese--was absolutely delicious and easily one of the most memorable sides I've had at a BBQ restaurant. The brisket was honestly some of the best brisket I've ever had. It was tender, flavorful, and easily my favorite of the three meats. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was also really good, and while the ribs tasted great, ours were pretty small and didn't have a ton of meat on them. My only real complaint was the portioning of the sampler. We were told that as you choose a larger variety of meats, you essentially receive smaller portions of each. I understand the idea of a sampler, but we literally received one slice of brisket and two-three fairly small ribs, so the portion-to-variety concept didn't make a ton of sense to me. I would've preferred slightly more substantial portions, especially considering how good the brisket was! I also ordered a cocktail, but unfortunately it wasn't really for me. It came across very sweet and mostly juice, although I think that may have been more about the particular drink I chose than the bar itself. Overall, the food absolutely delivered. Between the incredible brisket, Fox-a-Roni, friendly service, and laid-back BBQ atmosphere, Fox Bros. was definitely worth the stop. I'd happily come back--I'd just skip the 3 meat sampler next time and order more of that brisket!
