Walk up order with tables inside!
    Lorri D.

Rustic spot with a truly BBQ feel, where you order at the counter, take a number and your food is delivered to your table. This spot came highly recommended, but I was unimpressed with my lunch. I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich with fries. I was expecting sliced turkey from a turkey...instead I got what felt and looked and tasted like packaged cold cuts. The fries were crinkle cut like you get in the freezer section and several were still cold in the middle. 3 stars for the service and because the rest of my group, who ordered pulled pork and onion rings were happy with their meals.

    Fries and stew good too

There is nothing more authentic than a chop bbq plate with 2 sides and a sweet tea. This place does it right with a slice of Texas toast that I actually took a bite of before snapping the photo. The baked beans and Brunswick stew was 2 awesome sides.

6 bbq ribs, coleslaw, French fries, Texas toast

The restaurant is one block south of the square. Order a half rack of ribs (6), coleslaw, fries, and drink. Price is reasonable. Once ordered at the counter my food arrived in about 5 minutes. The restaurant has a rustic atmosphere. The young ladies that took my order and brought the food were pleasant. The ribs were very tender and meat was falling off the bone. Would have liked a little more coleslaw (mustard, vinegar dressing) even though it's not my favorite style. Fries were hot. The sauces didn't have much flavor.

First time I've been to this restaurant located a few steps from Covington Square and I'm satisfied. I heard the name of this restaurant from a friend, and I will come back without hesitation. First of all, you can park quite easily in the street or in the square. The restaurant is quite big so you can go there easily without a reservation during the week, but I don't know about the weekend. The restaurant is quite friendly and family oriented, I found the staff very nice. You order at the cash register, and you are served at the table. It seems to me that you can also order to go. I found the decoration quite cool and in the theme of the restaurant. The prices were very low for a restaurant of this type. I only paid $8.99 for the BBQ plate, which was pork, with a choice of two sides. I chose French fries and a Brunswick stew which I was eating for the first time. I also took a drink for $1.49 (soda). I thought the food was good and served quickly. I think it's a good place to go for a quick bite to eat and something cheap but of good quality. I recommend it!

First time coming in. The man that was fixing the sides in the back had no gloves on and was using a small portion bowl to put the sides in another small bowl. The ribs we ordered were burnt and should not have been served to anyone but the trash. The Brunswick stew was mushy. The pulled pork sandwich was old and should have been thrown away. It had hard pieces all in it. The potato salad taste like just cold mashed potatoes and not potato salad. The baked beans were extremely nasty. Taste like the barbecue sauce they tried to make on their own with big chunks of mustard. First and last time visiting here

BBQ Sandwich and good baked beans. Vamped.

Decent bbq at reasonable prices. Quick meal option convenient to the historic area. The bbq chopped chicken and fries were our favorites. The ability to "vamp" most menu items was a fun addition. The floor was extremely slippery and could have used a cleaning.

I was looking for some BBQ between Atlanta and Augusta and found Cowboys South of Covington. It…read moredoes share a building with a gas station but is separate. The place is decked out in cowboy attire everywhere on the wall. But the place is too quiet. Just the absence of music in the background made something feel missing. I chose the brisket platter with baked potato salad and mac and cheese. The brisket was phenomenal! It was easy to chew, juicy, good flavor, a good rub on the outside, and all 3 sauces tasted wonderful with it. Speaking of sauces, all were mar-vel-ous. There is a spicy red tomato base one that I think I liked the best, a Honey, and a Sweet and Tangy mustard base. The baked potato salad was made with sour cream and chives. I always love that stuff. The mac and cheese was recommended to me by the waitress and she made a good choice. It was very good homemade mac and cheese. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! You may ask what is keeping Cowboys from getting a 5 star? Simple....maybe my biggest pet peeve with a BBQ joint...STINGINESS with the meat! My brisket plate was $10.99 and for that, I received 3 strips of meat that I ate in 9 bites and I really had to stretch it to 9 bites. That's over a $1 per bite. I wouldn't mind paying a $1 or $2 more if I would get more meat. That is why I come to a BBQ joint. I don't want to leave not feeling satisfied. And to add to it, both of my sides were premium sides that costed an extra 50 cents a piece. Everything was great about Cowboys especially the way it tasted but if I'm going to leave and feel like I was not given a good size portion for what I pay, I'm likely not to return. I also would have shared this opinion of mine in person in a polite way if someone at the end would have asked me, "How was everything?" But no one asked so I didn't share except on Yelp!

I'd have given 5 stars but the chicken wasn't ready by 2pm as it was supposed to have been. It's not a fancy place but they make up for it with food and service. The portions were enough for 3 days depending on your appetite. The taste of the food was awesome and I love their sauces. I look forward to going back again and trying some other items. P. S. The funnel cakes fries are perfection and so much easier to eat than traditional funnel cake yummmmmm.

Tonight we made our way to The Social Goat in Covington, Georgia. Before we even get to the food,…read morethis is the kind of restaurant that has a personality all its own. Goat-themed artwork is scattered throughout the restaurant, including some fun paintings that immediately caught our attention. The atmosphere feels more like a cozy tavern than a traditional taco restaurant, with dark wood, booths, and a comfortable setting that invites you to settle in and stay awhile. One interesting piece of local history is the building itself. We learned that in 1906, this building housed an antique market. Think about that for a moment. If someone was selling antiques here in 1906, some of those "antiques" might have been from the 1800s. More than a century later, the building is still serving visitors, although these days the focus is tacos rather than antiques. Covington itself is worth mentioning. The city has become known as Georgia's Hollywood of the South, with more than 100 movies and television productions filmed here over the years. Fans of The Vampire Diaries and Sweet Magnolias will recognize many locations around town. If you're visiting the area, there is plenty to see before or after dinner. Our server for the evening was Jordan, who provided friendly service throughout the meal. The menu features eleven different taco varieties, which immediately created a dilemma. Narrowing the choices down to just three was not easy. We ultimately chose the Fried Fish Taco, the Philly Taco, and the Sesame Ribeye Taco. The tacos are available as a trio, allowing you to sample three different varieties on one platter. The meal also came with chips, salsa, and queso, making it easy to share and compare flavors. Let's start with the Fried Fish Taco because it ended up being my favorite of the three. The fish itself had excellent flavor and was cooked just right. The taco was topped with a sauce that brought a unique flavor to the experience, and the crunchy slaw added texture that worked beautifully with the fish. Every component contributed something to the overall bite. This was the taco that surprised me the most and ultimately earned the top spot in my personal ranking. The Philly Taco finished a very close second. If you're a fan of Philly cheesesteaks, you'll immediately understand the appeal. Loaded with shaved ribeye, peppers, onions, and cheese, it delivered exactly the flavors I was hoping for. It was rich, satisfying, and packed with flavor. Sometimes simple combinations work for a reason, and this taco proved that point. The Sesame Ribeye Taco was the most unique of the three. The sesame-soy flavor was bold and immediately noticeable. I enjoyed the flavor profile and appreciated that it took the taco in a different direction than what I typically experience. Rather than trying to imitate a traditional taco, it offered something distinct and memorable. Anyone looking for a creative twist on a taco will likely find this one especially interesting. One thing I appreciated about the trio platter was the opportunity to compare very different flavor profiles side by side. The Fried Fish Taco offered a balance of fish, sauce, and crunch. The Philly Taco delivered familiar comfort-food flavors. The Sesame Ribeye Taco brought a bold and unique flavor profile to the table. Each taco had its own personality, which made the comparison part of the fun. The chips were crisp, the salsa was fresh, and the queso provided a nice complement to the tacos. Combined with the trio platter, it was more than enough food for a satisfying meal. The Social Goat manages to be more than just a taco stop. Between the historic building, the goat-themed decor, the welcoming tavern atmosphere, and a menu filled with creative options, it offers an experience that stands out from the typical restaurant visit. If we return, and there is a good chance we will, there are still eight taco varieties left for us to investigate. The Social Goat Tavern 1115 Church Street Covington, GA 30014
