The food service and the people are nice the food is good the service is great I would recommend cooking yo eat here

I tried so hard to love this place. You really have no idea. In short, mostly mediocre food combined with one very shiesty action ruined the experience. I knew I had to stop at Cowboy's BBQ after I passed it a few times while looking at houses in Covington. Some of the best food that you'll find anywhere is often attached to a gas station. The good reviews and smells made me certain this was going to be great. At first glance, prices are amazing [more on this later...]. I ordered the 3 meat plate with brisket, ribs, and smoked chicken. I chose fries and mac n cheese for my sides. The mac n cheese carried an upcharge, but this is reasonably common for places to do. I agree with the one diner who said the brisket was amazing. I really enjoyed the brisket. The fries were also fine thanks how are you? Wish I had more good to say about this place. The ribs were very old and mediocre at best. I understand that food can't be cooked to order at a barbecue place, but even barbecue has a shelf life. The ribs that I was served should've long been chopped into a stew special or something along those lines. The smoked chicken was a disgusting insult. At first, I thought I was mistakenly served an additional side instead of smoked chicken. Unfortunately, their service style is off the bone and finely diced. Storing barbecue meats off the bone is a delicate process. You have to take extra care to ensure that it doesn't dry up in the hot box. Unfortunately, no care was taken, so the chicken was dry and tasteless. The mac n cheese was very low quality. I'll happily pay an upcharge for the good stuff that's baked. I'll grudgingly eat Kraft mac n cheese. I will not pay an upcharge for Kraft mac n cheese. Honestly, all of this would've made the experience probably worth 2 or even 3 stars, but they have an incredibly dishonest, unadvertised upcharge for credit cards. The surcharge is definitely higher than their cost to accept credit cards. Some businesses eat the cost of accepting credit cards. Other businesses pass this cost to the customer. Cowboy BBQ uses this as an opportunity to improve their margins by cheating their customers. read more

Great food and beyond great service by Elijah. He's a member of the family that owns the place, he loves food and helping people. I'd have given 5 stars but the chicken wasn't ready by 2pm as it was supposed to have been. It's not a fancy place but they make up for it with food and service. The portions were enough for 3 days depending on your appetite. The taste of the food was awesome and I love their sauces. I look forward to going back again and trying some other items. P. S. The funnel cakes fries are perfection and so much easier to eat than traditional funnel cake yummmmmm. read more

I checked the prices online before going. The Cowboy Plate got my attention at $15.99 i believe. Once there, upon ordering the plate with fries and coleslaw with drink, the bill was $24. I questioned the girl about the difference, she said they were aware of the issue and showed me the new menu. The dining area isn't anything to brag about. Cheap chairs and tables. Even though I was dining in, my meal came in a styrofoam box. The meat (ribs and brisket) were very tender, fries and coleslaw were okay. As much as I love Hot Wings they often escape my attention on the menu especially when my eyes are all misty with thoughts of Barbecue. Such was thus at Cowboy's. That is until today. Cautiously, I ordered the Five piece with Fries and they weren't half bad. True, they weren't exactly crisp and lacked anything even resembling heat, but not bad. Will I order them again? So I just ate here twoish hours ago(7/28/23), and i gotta say that was probably the best BBQ i've ever had. Actually i just finished my leftovers from lunch, not heated back up mind you, and it was still absolutely delicious. I will not have another BBQ joint come to mind when i am craving ribs or brisket from this day forth. The food - Amazing The service - Elijah was a pleasure to speak to. He was polite, respectful, and jovial. The atmosphere - real hometown, holeinthewall feeling. And if you want to know the area gossip just put away your phone (you will have limited cell service anyway) and quietly eat your food. All in all I really enjoyed this place. I was looking for some BBQ between Atlanta and Augusta and found Cowboys South of Covington. It does share a building with a gas station but is separate. The place is decked out in cowboy attire everywhere on the wall. But the place is too quiet. Just the absence of music in the background made something feel missing. I chose the brisket platter with baked potato salad and mac and cheese. The brisket was phenomenal! It was easy to chew, juicy, good flavor, a good rub on the outside, and all 3 sauces tasted wonderful with it. Speaking of sauces, all were mar-vel-ous. There is a spicy red tomato base one that I think I liked the best, a Honey, and a Sweet and Tangy mustard base. The baked potato salad was made with sour cream and chives. I always love that stuff. The mac and cheese was recommended to me by the waitress and she made a good choice. It was very good homemade mac and cheese. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! You may ask what is keeping Cowboys from getting a 5 star? Simple....maybe my biggest pet peeve with a BBQ joint...STINGINESS with the meat! My brisket plate was $10.99 and for that, I received 3 strips of meat that I ate in 9 bites and I really had to stretch it to 9 bites. That's over a $1 per bite. I wouldn't mind paying a $1 or $2 more if I would get more meat. That is why I come to a BBQ joint. I don't want to leave not feeling satisfied. And to add to it, both of my sides were premium sides that costed an extra 50 cents a piece. Everything was great about Cowboys especially the way it tasted but if I'm going to leave and feel like I was not given a good size portion for what I pay, I'm likely not to return. I also would have shared this opinion of mine in person in a polite way if someone at the end would have asked me, "How was everything?" But no one asked so I didn't share except on Yelp! read more

After seeing this place so busy for so long I figured we should give it a try. This was the worst food decision I have ever made. My sister's bf got the pulled pork and got food poisoning. I got a box of the worst tasting ribs I have ever eaten in my life. It was way to bitter and I just had to toss them in the trash. So after this review has been up for months the owner has decided to harass me instead of trying to make it right. I am contacting yelp to let them know and I have screenshots of your nonsense. In the area for work and stopped by since it's one of the only places to eat. Food was great and really well cooked. Other reviewers mentioned that they use an electric smoker and therefore lacked some of flavor depth you get with fire. Looking back I can completely agree with this, but the food is still fantastic. Tea refills were rapid and the staff was extremely nice. I would make another visit since it's quick, good, and cheap. read more

My brother and his wife live out in Covington, so we'll hit up Cowboys for family occasions. My wife and I love the pulled pork and the brisket. Good banana pudding, as well. Pickers' Circle some Saturdays can make it a little hard to have a conversation, but that's what the front dining room is for. read more

It's just not that good. They use electric smokers and when you go in for lunch you wait forever to get your food.

We live less than 2 miles from this restaurant. It is our "go to" when we don't want to cook or drive to town. The food is always great! The service always top notch and friendly! They go above and beyond for their customers. I highly recommend giving them a try. Oh and the banana pudding is to die for! My family of four fight over it, thankfully we live close because last night my husband brought home a large, and after he got his "serving" there was a little over a quarter left! To split between 3 of us! .. it was 9:30 pm and I called up there to ask if they were still open. They had closed at 9, but the owner didn't hesitate to wait for me to run over and get more! Best BBQ brisket I have ever had. I also like their wings, tenders, and fried pickle spears. My husband swears by their Brunswick Stew. And they have some excellent live music every weekend.
