I came in to get some books I found on their website that were about Arab Americans (non fiction), a Persian fiction novel and a special copy of a new book by a Nigerian author. All regular price points which is fine as I am Al about supporting small business. Whoever is curating is doing a good job. The plethora of signs and ways they showcase the books was both stark and comfortable. The person at the desk nice and helpful. Check the website and find a topic of interest. Keep an open mind and come check this place out. We all need learning and even if the views challenge your own - it's worth it. A mind always wants to be challenged and to think!

I experienced the most uncomfortable encounter when I asked why their books were so anti American and offensive. I was assaulted and asked to leave the store. I didn't mind because the stench from the musty books and their smelly staff wouldn't have kept me there long anyway. Proceed with caution.

This cozy bookstore feels like stepping back in time. Shelves are stacked with a mix of used, vintage, and classic books, and honestly... they smell like it too. Lol. There's just something comforting about that old-book scent. You'll find everything from fiction and poetry to rare finds and children's titles tucked in the corners. It's small, quiet, and slightly perfectly imperfect in the best way because every shelf feels like a treasure hunt! The nostalgic vibe makes you want to linger a little longer. I ended up purchasing per a staff recommendation, 'Attempt at Exhausting a Place in Paris' by Georges Perec Reading the first couple of pages instantly transported back to Paris, a place I know extemely well, and I saw every bus, man, woman, child, server worker, and heard every klaxon and shouted obscenity. Do yourself a favor and search out Elliot Bay Book when you visit Seattle, you'll be supporting a local business and feeding your mind and soul.

When a friend and I first walked in, we remarked on a Shel Silverstein display, and the owner told us the story of the author's last published book. We quoted some of our favorite pieces, and he gave suggestions for new reads. Despite knowing I was going to walk around for the rest of the day, I bought a book, because I wanted to support this business and I trusted the recommendation. The atmosphere is cozy and friendly. They have an amazing selection of used paperback fiction and the pricing is great. Inventory balances old and new, classic and under-appreciated works. A must-visit!

I stopped in during Independent Booksellers Day (4/25/26) and it was packed full of people. Warmly acknowledged upon entering and later when departing. I briefly browsed the shelves. There's a decent selection, as well as, other merch available for purchase. What really caught my attention were the high curved ceilings. It gave a bright, airy feeling despite feeling a bit cramped with the current capacity onsite. My previous indie booksellers in Pioneer Square were Elliott Bay Book Store (moved to Capitol Hill) and the treasure trove owned by the late David Ishii. It was good to be reacquainted again with Arundel Books, a mainstay in Seattle since 1995.

It's unique, it's absolutely perfect, it's not in any danger if getting replaced by the Internet. And if you love maps, wow. A lot of the maps they have here are legitimate works of art. The staff is also very friendly, and they're great with kids. My kids love this place. They are also really knowledgeable and can help you locate things. Would definitely recommend making the walk up the hill from the market to check this place out.

At the time of purchase, I specifically asked about the return policy and was told that returning books would be "no problem" as long as they remained unopened in their original plastic wrapping. When I later returned to exchange or return three of the books 10 days later, I was told that I could not do so because I did not have my receipt. This requirement was never mentioned when I asked about returns. As a longtime member, my purchase is documented through my membership account, so it is disappointing that this record could not be used to verify the transaction. I find this level of customer service unacceptable. If a receipt is required for returns, customers should be clearly informed of that at the time of purchase, especially when they specifically ask about the return policy.

These ladies are swell and you don't see such unabashed enthusiasm for novels outside of the public library system. They have a small operation and so can't keep a huge catalog, but will special order anything and make sure you get the best price. They also have a nice incentive where they give you a credit for a book for every so many you buy, which is quite nice. Another bonus is that they are attached to Cafe Diablo's outside deck and so you can go get a book and joe and sit out under the trellis on nicer days and relax for a bit. read more

This is one of my favorite places in the world! It is not a chain bookstore- it is a neighborhood place with carefully selected merchandise and knowledgeable, friendly staff. I have a friend that lives in Queen Anne whom I visit often, and I make a point to peruse this establishment every time I visit Seattle! Please do yourself a favor and check it out so you can see what I mean. You can take your purchase outside to a cafe table and enjoy with a great mocha from next door! read more

I love this place. Every book I've purchased with a staff recommendation card has been excellent. The people here actually HELP you. The selection is great, and when they didn't have a book I was looking for, they special ordered it for me and it arrived in two days. Crazy good. Love supporting local stores like this. It's so great to find a bookstore where the staff have actually read their books and can intelligently talk about them! I liked this place the minute I walked in, cozy, warm environment with such a selection. I love this place. It's the right atmosphere for anyone looking for the right read. The way around Queen Anne Books itself is inviting and relaxing at every turn. The smell of this bookshops brings me back to when my uncle, the late David Ishii had his shop in Pioneer Square. Whenever i visit Magus, certain book covers and genres bring me back to a time and place of nostalgia. I also geek out on the weight of a book, the binding, and cultural significance. For example, I love Italian and French books and the Feltrinelli publishers. Magus also has a good selection of Dog Man for my kids at a good value.

I get warm and fuzzies thinking back to childhood memories walking in, feeling welcome (I think a classmate's mom possibly worked here at that time, OR we truly visited frequently enough that we were indeed familiar customers), and taking our time browsing the wide selection to pick the just-right book. Today, when I visit my parents in Magnolia, I will always take any opportunity to step into the shop and step back in time. I feel as welcome as ever, and I kid you not -- it smells just as it did 2.5+ decades ago. Books aren't marked up, so value is standard, and it sure does feel good to support LOCAL. They still have their neon blue complimentary book marks. I sure hope they still provide wrapping services with fun, thin, curly ribbons placed on top like a dollop of whipped cream. If you're in Magnolia and still enjoy the feel of turning literal pages, stop by to find something to keep your nose in!

Amazon had been an indispensable way to purchase books and anything at all. The unfortunate side of that is: LOTS OF PLASTIC WASTE. Not to mention trigger consumption! It's so easy to purchase anything. Just press a button and it's at your house in a day or two. This convenience is burying us. When I confronted this egregious source of plastic waste, we began ordering books from Magnolia's Bookstore and haven't looked back. They have a phone number you can call! If they don't have a book you want, you can order it! Sometimes I had to wait. And you know what? We didn't suffer! We had something to look forward to. We have done this a number of times - even when the prices are higher. Convenient and plastic things are cheaper on the front end, but far more expensive on the back end. For wildlife. For the ocean. For our health. Plastic is forever. There is no away. It continues to break down and complicate so many natural life cycles and ecosystems. So yeah, I am happy to pay the extra $$, and support our local bookstore in the process - especially Magnolia's bookstore! When my books come, they are delivered in a cardboard box from the publisher. A fantastic sustainable solution to packaging! The employees at Magnolia's bookstore are incredibly warm and friendly. They will wrap your books in beautiful paper if you want! Free of charge! They sell paper gift certificates, and even have a rewards program that earns me a free book every now and again! What's more, the store has a conscience! This year Magnolia's Bookstore is donating a $50 gift certificate to Magnolia's first ever "Reuse Raffle", in support of Earth Month! If you attend Magnolia's Vino in the Village event in April (discovermagnolia.com) and bring your own wine glass, you'll not only reduce Magnolia's single-use plastic waste footprint, but you'll earn a chance to win a gift certificate from Magnolia's Bookstore (your wine will taste better in glass too, so I'm told). I value a store that supports reuse in this way. I will definitely bring my own wine glass knowing I could potentially win a gift certificate for my favorite bookstore!! Viva local bookstores!!
