I needed to rent an apartment and could not go ahead without the completion of these projects. David came up with a great solution to a problem I had with a tv mount that was oversized and unable to fit on the small wall area. He went and bought some wood locally and came back and built a new section to mount the tv. It was the perfect solution. It is fantastic to know that there is a local handyman who can take care of the endless jobs I seem to have in my home and rental apartment. I had a drywall job that was quoted by another company and it was just too much for me to not look for another quote. I contacted David and he give me an estimate over the phone based on pictures I sent him. Him and his brother Jay came out and they were very professional. They were also very easy to talk with and definitely have the best interest of the customer. The job was done perfectly and Jay even helped me saved money by recommending me to use the paint that I have. He did a pretty good job but caused some damage to surrounding area of wall. I figured this is a natural side effect of fixing a difficult job so rather than ask him to fix it for free, I sent him before/after pics and simply asked advice on how I could fix it. He said it was hard to say whether the damage was caused by him or was already there (he refused to view the "before" pic I guess). A week or two later I decided I did not want to fix it myself since I don't have any of the materials nor am I very handy, so I emailed him several more times over the next 5 months offering to pay him to fix the damage (they were plain, simple emails of me offering him money, again I did not suggest that he should do it for free or that the damage is his fault). Very Disappointing. I own a home in Wallingford that needs some minor stuff fixed. Examples include: wooden front stair that is rotting and needs replacing, broken slats from outdoor fence that needs mending, etc. I called and spoke with David on the phone. On the phone he seemed like the areas that needed addressing was stuff he could fix. He even mentioned that he was busy till the week of Oct 12 which worked out for me. He asked I send him an email with pictures so he could call the tenants to schedule a day/time. Not even 30 minutes after I sent him a detailed emails with many pictures attached does he respond with, "I will not be able to assist you." Care to explain why? Especially after I just spoke with you on the phone and you said you do "this kind of stuff all the time." EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING. Don't call this guy. read more

Was looking for a handyman to hang a pretty large mirror so I decided to call this place. Spoke with David and explained about the mirror to which he replied he wouldn't be able to come until next week. I'm in no rush so I said that would be fine, he then said he was too busy and would not be able to come out at all. No sorry for the trouble or here is another recommendation just hung up. 0 stars Follow up to my earlier review. As stated, this man is unprofessional and does shoddy work. The landlord is a cheapskate and always took the easy way out. She was incapable of solving any issues. Really, ask yourself, if David came to your home and broke 2 large glass windows, replaced it with a substandard material and then left glass and nails all over on the ground, would you think he was reputable and give him a good review? I doubt it. The landlord was always unprofessional as well and went back on her word to fix things many times, would send long, rambling incoherent emails to me, so her email doesn't say anything, except more evidence that she was a wacko. How many of you would be happy to have this 'handyman??' (and I use the term loosely) come to your house and break something, then leave a mess? THINK TWICE about using this person who definitely is out of the norm. read more

I decided to get rid of an embedded electric fireplace and blower to try to replace it with recessed audio-visual shelving underneath the wall mounted TV. Got far enough to know I needed help and started calling around. Pros: David was the only one who responded on a Saturday. His price was fair, communication was timely, and the finished quality was exactly what we wanted: beyond what we expected based on his prudent estimates of what was possible. He's friendly and interesting - we found out from his brother how it was he came out to Seattle from Philly. He even gave good advice on the A/V project we were doing simultaneously. Cons: He's busy and likes to work quickly so make sure you know what you want and you're on the same page. There was a little bit of vacuuming and pickup to do after he left - we didn't mind at all. If you have a huge project that needs to be to code or complex electrical work, I would always advise you to get someone licensed for that specific work, bonded, and insured. Skills: He helped finish removing the fireplace, evaluate what was behind, and looked at photos I had found on web of what I wanted. We brainstormed and came to a plan. He built a cabinet and shelves that we sanded and painted. He installed it securely exactly flush with the sheetrock, put more sheetrock over the gaps to make it 100% smooth, then his brother put on spray texture matching our walls and did the final painting. He converted the fireplace power supply into an outlet for items on the shelves. read more

We had 2 flat screen TV's and 3 white boards delivered unexpectedly and needed to have them installed ASAP (our CEO was on his way to visit from London). A quick call to David and he said email me the details and I should be there around 2p. A quick email later and he confirmed that he would arrive around 2p. He worked HARD and efficiently to get through our list of tasks. The TV's were done perfectly ... not easy since they needed to be side by side on a wall with unleveled celling and floor -- the white boards look great. 5 stars for working us into his busy schedule and his awesome can do personality. read more

This is the second time we've called Queen Anne Handyman and it won't be the last. We had a difficult project that involved hanging some IKEA kitchen cabinets in our laundry room. David came out on a Sunday morning (because we both work full-time during the week) and he got it done -- perfectly -- in less time than we expected. He joked about being a perfectionist, but it was clear that he takes a lot of pride in his work, which is a rare quality in contractors (based on our experience). I got a very long and complicated response from David which ends with "we don't do that. i mean, we do property maintenance, but not that. [insert typical property maintenance items here.] So it's up to you." I replied that I hadn't yet been quoted a price and it sounded like the job is too small for him.
