I needed a mani after I got brunch with a couple girlfriends, and this place was on the same street. I thought, how bad can a gel mani be? It lasts for two weeks so even if it isn't the best, it will come off. For $30/gel mani, this place is a complete waste of money. I cannot believe they are still in business. My gel "manicure" was sloppy and by far the worst I have ever experienced. I had to point out various cuticles that were missed, but the manicurist could barely see them. Isn't this her job? She filed my nails unevenly and sloppily and I wasn't pleased with the length. I had to correct her on this too. She polished my nails a couple of times, and I could have honestly done a better job myself. My nails look sloppy and amateur. She looked annoyed and asked if I needed a third coat. She seemed irritated that she had to spend more time doing that and couldn't wait to be finished even though there was literally no one waiting for services or already in the store. I went in for a pedicure and dip manicure. The pedicure was ok (just ok) but the manicure was a nightmare. First he tried to just peel off my old dip which was very painful. Then the woman doing my pedicure said she would soak them off and he left me there for 40 minutes before he started my manicure. He did not do the dip properly. It came out uneven and streaked. When I asked for it to be fixed he put gel over it so thick it looks awful. He also cut my cuticles on 2 places and they also look awful. I will never use this spa again. read more

Queen Nails is convenient to my job. I got a gel manicure a few months ago. It didn't last two weeks (the chips may have been my fault, however), but it did make it over a week and I appreciate that. My prior experience to that wasn't that good. A gel mani runs you $30, which is typical but maybe "cheap" for the Dupont Circle area. The nail technician got me in and out in like 20-30min... which can be a good thing if you just need something quick on your lunch break (like I did). read more

Queen Nails is a welcome escape from the expensive nails and waxing salons in Dupont Circle. Just two blocks from the metro - it's very convenient and Sue and Michelle are always kind and fast. I've never had a better eyebrow wax than I have at Queen Nails. They are very thorough and understand which eyebrow shape is best for your face. I've never had a leftover eyebrow hair after a wax at Queen Nails! The eyebrow wax is $13. The manicures are cheap for the area - I got one today (non-gel) and Michelle did a great job. Queen Nails has a ton of great colors and will get you done quickly. The salon is quiet and clean. It may not be fancy, but it's well worth the price. read more

While I still the consider the price for a mani-pedi a bit steep ($47 for both), I will definitely be visiting this place again, especially since it's a deal for Dupont Circle. It is tucked away in a basement, but it's very cute, brightly decorated, spacious and clean. I was a walk-in just 45 minutes before closing, but both of my nail technicians were thorough and didn't try to rush me, which I appreciated. They also have an AMAZING color selection, including Shellac colors. OPI, Essie, and everything else that I don't usually try because I like the former two better. My manicure lasted about a week but my pedicure is still going strong almost 2 weeks later. Pretty much what you can expect, plus I really liked the shaping they did on both my hands and feet. In addition, the woman doing my pedicure actually listened when I said that I didn't want the callouses on my feet removed (I'm a dancer, and I kinda need them). In my experience, some technicians act like they understand what I'm asking, but then they remove way too much. This woman knew what she was doing and I appreciated it! I definitely prefer this place to RnR Nail Spa, but I may try some other locations in Dupont to see if I can find an even better deal. But it's a surefire bet if their prices sound decent to you. One downside: It is not accessible (narrow staircase entrance). Someone in a wheelchair or with a physical disability would need assistance getting in here. read more

This place is just a couple of blocks off of Dupont Circle, and is definitely one of my favorite nail salons to go to when I need a fix and don't want to empty my wallet. I got a french manicure and pedicure for about $45 - however instead of hurrying you like many of these mass-production places they take their time, asking opinions during the different steps and chatting about your day/career/life in general. Also I don't know what they used on my nails, but the polish did not chip, bubble or peel for almost 2 weeks!! I would have given the place 5 stars were it not for the fact that the location itself is a dark little basement hole in the wall. But theres a Starbucks on thefloor above, and you can sip a latte or slurp a frappuchino on a hot day while having your nails done. Whats more fun than that? read more

I just moved to Dupont over the summer and walked in to Queen Nails to get a regular manicure. Awesome service! I picked out a new essie light summery pink color. The nail technician (a friendly asian woman wearing glasses) did three coats of the polish to make the pink really stand out! She also meticulously trimmed my overgrown cuticles & used a brush to wipe off any excess polish around the nail bed. When I accidentally smudged my polish on my ring finger she expertly fixed it to look good as new! Granted the place is a little pricey compared to the nail prices in jersey (16 dollar manicure)... I am a believer of quality service. Will definitely be coming to Queen's Nails during my stay in DC! :) read more

Queen Nails has been around for many, many years. Sue is a welcoming, vivacious, and caring person and she and the other staff are very devoted to their clientele. The cost is more than some salons -- but not by much. They don't have to rush you through because they have a line of people waiting for a $29 mani/pedi with a lot of visible detritus lying about. This is not like that. It has a quieter vibe to it. I looked around -- everything was spotless. I felt I got a very good (standard--not gel) manicure and pedicure here. I went in today with gel nail tips, I told the girl to not cut them down or sand file them to nothing, I just wanted a fill. She simply did the opposite, I have the thinnest nail and short, and uneven. Horrible not worth the value. In her defense she offered to fix it I asked how you will have to give me a new set. Given, it's definitely not the cheapest (well - I just moved here from NYC where you can get a mani/pedi at any corner for $20 but whatevs) the staff is always friendly and they have some great magazines. Had my first mani/pedi visit here and so far I am not impressed. This place has high reviews from Yelp and it came recommended from a nearby hair salon so I hope I just came on a bad day, although I'm doubtful I'll return since there are so many other nail salons around. The visit started out having to wait 20 minutes for a nail tech...no big deal, they're popular and I didn't have an appointment...they have good magazines in the waiting area. It's a little dark and dingy...it's a basement salon but it looks clean. I sat there by myself for what seemed like forever and kept thinking I should just walk out but I really needed the visit so I waited on. Once the nail tech was free I heard a voice call for down a hall...I walked towards the voice and entered a large room where the others were...there were 4 or 5 nail techs with their clients. I was told to sit down at the pedi chair in the smaller room...once again by myself. I sat at the chair that had running water and my nail tech appeared to turn off the water and she was gone again. I sat again for about 10-15 minutes reading a magazine. When she finally returned, she never looked at me, never said anything and barely touched my feet! How do you give a pedicure without touching someone's feet?? She flew through everything, no massage, and then she was already painting my nails. From start to finish, I kept thinking I'm going to get up just pay for a full pedicure and get the heck out, but I stayed. Then she started my manicure...it turned out a bit better than my pedicure but what massage I did get was PAINFUL! One good thing to say...she can paint nails well but I have had pedis/manis for years and THAT is not a pedicure or manicure. On second thought, I don't think I will return...Hmmph! read more

So I went to this place based on the reviews and price menu I saw online and was shocked to find a basement apartment with Ikea furniture and portable hand dryers. Fine whatever the prices seemed cool, so I wasn't too upset about the decor. However I spent an hour there getting a fill in that was improperly done and slapped with five layers of nail polish that NEVER dried. Fine. I walk back the next day with my own nail polish and watch them use mysterious nail products that cause air bubbles and sit at the portable dryer for 20 minutes for my nails still not to dry. Today I'm pulling my hair up in my office and hear a snap. Thinking it's my rubber band, it's actually the nail on my middle finger broken after just one week. A nearly $40 fill in should definitely last longer than 8 days. Will not be going back. read more

And it was an old school fill, too - complete with clippers to clip away the acrylic. I wouldn't go back. I love Queen Nails and while not a frequent customer, I have not felt the need to go anywhere else for years. I feel like the salon is a secret "best place," tucked away down a little stairway yet within a three minute walk from the Metro. The nail professionals are always attentive but are attuned to the customer and will not talk you to death. There is a lightness to the setting, lots of laughter. This place is special --- they take their time, pay attention to details and make your nails look great. When the color on my pedicure turned out to be a little too pink looking, my pedicure wizard hopped up and brought over a another color that would create the pearlized look I was going for. They are always trying to make thing better --- for example when a runner friend's toe nails fell off due to rigorous training, they helped create two fake toe nails so she could wear open-toe shoes to a wedding. They also take you through ever step, carrying your stuff over to the drying area and making sure to put an oil on the nails while you are drying. As I dry my nail for less than 10 mins the manager or the owner come over and said you nail polish is dry already she RUSH ME TO LEAVE THE QUEEN NAILS SALON. The Department of Health needs to drop in for a surprise inspection on Queen Nails---it is the dirtiest nail salon I have ever been to!!! Several manicurists were eating food and working at the same time without washing their hands between bites and they don't always clean the pedicure tub between clients. There is a place across the street that offers the same services for $40. The ladies are nice I will say, but the space is sort of dingy and dirty. The drying machines dont always work and the "waxing room" is actually in the waiting room and just sectioned off with a sheet/curtain. I went to go get acrylic nails done. I told the woman I wanted to add a little length but not too much. She showed me the nails she had and didn't seem to understand what I meant (basically just to shave them down), so I gave up and said I wanted gels. It took me a while to pick my color; meanwhile she kept sighing in exasperation. She said do you want gels and a manicure, or just gels? I didn't understand the difference and asked her to explain. Her English was not very good and I continued to not understand. Meanwhile she kept repeating the same thing over and over again in a louder pitch, towering over me. She was very aggressive and exasperated with me. It was sooo rude and condescending. I told her that I didn't like her yelling at me and I took my things and left. I went to mimosa salon where they told me to take my time picking my color, they have nice drying machines (the greenlit ones), and the technician asked me about my day and made me feel welcome. read more

I've been a regular at Queen Nails for about two years now. The salon is small and a bit dark, but the location can't be beat (underneath a Starbucks) and I've never had to wait when walking in for an evening manicure or pedicure last-minute. The technicians are thorough and friendly, and my pedicures look great for weeks. They are very thorough with helping you dry your nails, too. The manicure and pedicure comes to about $50 plus tip, which is a bit pricey for a little nail shop (not a spa), but it's worth it for the convenience, attitude, and staying-power of the job. They also accept tip on the credit card, which is a plus. Though I've tried other nail salons with much success, Queen Nails will always be one of my go-to nail salons in the area. read more

I JUST walked out of Queen Nails after getting a manicure. My nail tech's method of applying polish involved painting the entire tip of my finger and then trying to scrape off the dry polish with her jagged finger nail. I asked twice if she could remove the polish from my skin. The second time she finally listened and proceeded to apply polish to her jagged finger nail and scrape my skin. While my nails were drying I asked for a q-tip and some polish remover. Instead she came out and scraped for a third time. I'm now sitting at my desk looking at a horrible filing job and noting the fact that my nails are fused to my skin with two layers of polish. This was a BAD manicure and for $16 I guess I should have expected it. I'd highly recommend King Nails in Petworth where a dirt cheap mani/pedi ($30) is finished in a precise, professional manner - now that's a deal! read more
