The chicken tacos were delicious. The jalapeño margarita was made to perfection. I did try the fundido-- it wasn't like I've had at other places, but it was still alright. Our server was very knowledgeable and pleasant, which is a breathe of fresh air in this economy. She truly seemed to love her job and making sure that patrons had the best experience. We celebrated with dinner for my friend's birthday! I made reservations on OpenTable, which was super simple & inquired on the app regarding whether they sing for birthdays or offer anything special for the celebrant etc. I also spoke to them over the phone. While they are not required to sing, some servers will. I was informed at the time of my questions that our server does not sing, however there would be other servers that evening that could come to our table & sing, if I would like. This was 5 days prior to our reservations. They were extremely accommodating & helpful. For birthdays, they will put a lit candle on top of a dessert you purchase. Just let them know ahead of time. If you bring in your own cake, there is a $10 charge fee. Parking is complimentary valet, tip based. Valet parking is a love, hate thing for me. Although parking is not far from the entrance, I understand why they do this. Parking is limited & I can imagine if it wasn't valet how backed up & chaotic it could get. The young man who parked my car was friendly & smiley, which was a good start to a lovely birthday celebration evening with friends. The hostess was very sweet & caring. I had apparently missed a message from the restaurant in my email regarding what I would like to do regarding dessert for the birthday celebrant. She noticed some of my friends with me & thought one of them was the birthday boy. She was discreet about discussing the singing & dessert in front of the currently present friends. I was touched that she was so considerate & displayed such situational awareness in ensuring the birthday person's surprise was kept a secret. FOOD: It's a limited menu but enough variety, so it's not overwhelming. At our table we ordered the loaded yucca fries. Just order that and your day will be GRAND!! Those are some delicious, fantastic yucca fries! Super flavorful! Initially I ordered one, and we all shared. However, I couldn't help myself & may have had more of a share, so I ordered a second one and refrained from stuffing my face again. One of us ordered guacamole, while it was fairly good, I couldn't forget about those loaded yucca fries haha. Three of us ordered the birria enchiladas, which came with two & both a good size. They were beautifully plated and came with a side of salad greens. It packed a bit of a spicy punch for me with a burst of lime & cilantro and the birria was super tender. It was a solid choice! I ended up taking the second enchilada home. When I finished it a few days later, I felt like the flavor & seasonings were even more amplified. My other two friends ordered fish & chicken tacos, which came with three. Their tacos were beautifully plated as well & they both enjoyed theirs as well. For dessert we had the churros with the chocolate sauce on the side & the tres leches cake with salted caramel ice cream. Both were shared amongst the table. All the food is made from scratch & fresh ingredients. The churros had a slight partially crispy outer layer but super soft, spongy inside with a sugary cinnamon profile, not too sweet & not too under sweetened. Those were some good churros! While I enjoyed the tres leches cake and I do like salted caramel ice cream and myself and another friend demolished it, lol it wasn't my most favorite tres leches cake I've ever had. The ice cream was very creamy, a plus but it was a bit on the sweet side for me. The cake itself was fine but it tasted like it had a hint of lime or slight citrusy taste. I would definitely return, as I had a pleasant experience, the food was delicious, and myself and friends were treated with kindness. I felt as a customer I was valued & appreciated for just being there. They do allow separate checks, just inform your server PRIOR to ordering. For parties of 6 or more there is an automatic gratuity. This restaurant is located in a strip mall type of setting. There is valet parking for the restaurant, but they work for tips. They were nice guys. To start with the positives- our waiter- Jonathan, I believe was excellent. He took our order, the food came out correct and quickly. He had a great demeanor and was very nice. The food overall was also quite good. My biggest issue with this place was the hostess and the issue with the reservation. We had a reservation for 730 pm. We arrived about that time. When we checked in, we were told that they table was not ready yet. So, we were like ok- that happens from time to time. After waiting 20 more min, we asked about the table/reservation. The hostess was not happy that we asked about it and so she decided to take us and seat us on an indoor/outdoor type of patio where she turned the heater on when we got there. It was about 35-40F that night.. We told her this was not going to work. The space was cold and, my experience, when you are the only people in an out of the way area... the waiter/waitress forget you are there. After another 5-10 minutes, we had a table inside. But let me tell you.. she was disgusted with us. First of all, she could have communicated the issue. Come to find out the people that were at the table we had reserved were just not leaving. Which i get... that happens but none of that was communicated at the beginnings. In town on business with my husband and decided to visit Quemar for dinner after reading other Yelp reviews. Let me just say, the service alone is enough for me to want to come back. Toni "with an I" was absolutely amazing! I loved her energy and how she welcomed us as first-timers. Her drink rec was on point! I don't even need to talk about the food because the service was that good--but since this is a restaurant, I should. I had the fish of the day, rockfish over mashed potatoes, and my husband had the bone-in pork ribeye. We also had the loaded yuca frita and guacamole tostadas as appetizers. Ordered a strawberry mojito which was refreshing. For appetizers had oysters, the potato's with chorizo (can't think of name) and the guacamole. Oysters were great, wasn't fond of the spicy sauce that came with. Potato dish was flavorful and guacamole was fresh. Entrees we had chicken Al pastor, carne asada and fish tacos, all were great but keep in mind they are tapas so small. Friend also ordered arroz con pollo which she expressed was well seasoned. We went on a Thursday night, walked in with no reservation, and was seated immediately. They restaurant is beautiful and romantic. They had a dining area and what looked like a lounge area that was so nice. We sat in the dining area. They had someone playing the keyboard and singing the night we went in the lounge area. The sound was awesome and a great touch to a romantic evening. Our waitress was helpful and polite, and the service was quick. First time here and was so blown away I came twice in one week: for brunch and then for dinner! Quemar is located where Bella Monte once was, which I was able to visit once many years ago. But Quemar really did the place up into a beautiful, trendy establishment. My first time was during brunch with some gal pals. We were greeted and seated by Rachel, who was very friendly and welcoming. Our waitress was Janine and for Quemar being fairly new and just a few weeks of opening, she was knowledgeable of the menu and made some awesome suggestions for the table. The brunch menu didn't have much of a selection like I had hoped but I did enjoy my entree of mixed greens with chicken al pastor. I also got the hibiscus agua fresca which was pretty good, too. I've been to Que Mar twice now and both times did not disappoint! Taco 'bout delicious. My absolutely favorite thing on the menu is the queso dip! They always have the option to add chorizo to it but it's great either way. The tacos are good, they taste authentic and they're colorful and a mix of great flavors. The interior of the restaurant is dark and upscale. It's definitely a great date night spot. We came here for my fiancés birthday and it was easy to make a reservation. The food and service is always on point. You can really tell the love and effort that is put in to the food. It is a great place to go to grab a drink and apps with a friend or coworker after work or out to a nice dinner with your partner. The restaurant is a little dark, coming in from outside your eyes have to do some major adjustment. Once inside it is not as noticeable and they have cute little table lights if you need some extra illumination. Having valet is an interesting choice. I am unsure if they have it every day but the times I have gone during the week the parking lot is fairly bare. You get out of the car and hand over your keys for the valet to pull directly into a parking spot just a few feet away. Then of course you tip the valet, just to pull out of the parking spot yourself that you could have easily parked in from the start. This is the reason I am not giving a 5 star review. It makes something that should add to having an upscale experience feel tacky. During the weekend or week nights that are busy I understand having a valet, even appreciate it. But when it is not busy it is an inconvenience to have to go through the process to hang over your keys and have someone else pull your car into a spot. read more

Honestly, I don't know how I would even rate this place because I just have mix feelings for it. Made reservations for our anniversary and I was pretty excited to come here. Friends have told us about this place and it's all over social media; I needed to know what was so good about it. What I don't understand is the valet parking. When we asked the gentlemen if there was a place for us to park if we didnt do valet, he told us it was going to be across the street, further down. Our waiter was super nice, would check up on us and made sure our glasses were never empty. My husband got their ribeye 24oz and that was about $50-$55. It did NOT come with any sides and if you wanted to add some, it was additional $6. He got the mashed potatoes and I kid you not, it was like one heaping spoon. I'm just surprised that their steaks doesnt come with any side and that it cost extra for adding some. Luckily, the steak and mashed potatoes were really good. I got the carne asada sandwich, I saw someone from the other table get a sandwich and it came with fries so I was hoping mine would too. spoiler: it didn't. it was just a carne asada sub sandwich, sitting on a small plate and that was $16-$18. Honestly, I was so sad & still hungry. The only good thing was that the sandwich was pretty good, I just wish it came with more. The service was so fast that we were finished by 6:30. 30 minutes at dinner!!! that's insane. We have never been in and out of a restaurant so quick. We got back to the car and we were like, "that's it?" No complaints on that, we just couldn't believe how quick service was, very impressive. Food was a 8/10, service was definitely a 10/10. For a meal we had the birria enchiladas delicious and the ribeye for 2. Now the chef recommended medium rare I'm a bit funny about blood we asked for medium but it came out cooked medium well so it wasn't as good had to add chimichurri to every bite so I wasn't happy paying 69 dollars I wouldn't recommend or I guess next time go with chef recommendation. The hostess was prompt and greeted us with a smile. One side of the restaurant looked like a bar area while the other appeared as an upscale restaurant. Ambient lighting and nice booths. Our waitress Lindsay was fantastic. She was quick, nice, and had some small talk banter with us about the area as we are less familiar with Virginia Beach. The food was great. As an appetizer we had oysters. Main dish I had Arroz Con Pollo, while my date had a Beef bone in Ribeye with the carrots. All was phenomenal. We had heard so many wonderful things on social media, so we had to make sure that we tried it out! we reserved a table on OpenTable as recommended by the other reviews l had seen. I decided to check out the 1/2 off top shelf tequila Tuesdays I saw promoted on social media. Was given the menus pictured and confirmed with our waiter the price listed was the marked down price. I personally feel they're a little out of touch on this one. I will say the staff was very kind and we all had a laugh about the prices. The atmosphere is gorgeous. There are 2 doors to walk through. We got the queso for appetizer and some raw oysters. I don't read them but my boyfriend said they were great. I got the carnitas for my entree and He got the birria enchiladas. Both were yummy, service was quick. After dinner we went over to the lounge side and sat at the bay listening to the live music. They have a beautifully decorated and comfortable bar area that is first-come, first-served with couches and tables, and bar seating as well. Some of the food is downright delicious- I love the scallop aguachile, the ceviche, and the Brussels sprouts. But some of the other dishes (such as the mushroom tacos) leave a lot to be desired. I will say that I tended to be more pleased going the tapas-style route for a meal at Quemar versus ordering a full entree. They also have live music some nights. i had a very enjoyable experience at Quemar. when we pulled up , we were greeted by valet . walked into into the building , and when i say the ambiance was giving everything that needed to be given . on your right when you walk in , there's a lounge type feel with velvet sofas , a smaller bar, and beautiful lighting . then , on the left , it's the restaurant with a larger bar . they also have seating outside , one part geared toward dining and the other part more loungey . okay , now about the food . i'm going to start off by saying our waiter , Toni, was awesome . very personable . she also gave us a very detailed explanation about the restaurant and menu . we were there during happy hour . i ordered the chicken al pastor tacos and margarita , and my guy ordered the smash burger with loaded yuca fritas . let me start off by saying ? those tacos didn't stand a chance . they were delicious . and i got a lil bite of the smash burger , cooked to perfection . it was my first time having any type of yuca , and after eating the yuca fritas ... it won't be my last . i did end it off on a sweet note , and ordered the tres leches. it came with ice cream and was topped off with strawberries. not gonna lie , i could've done without the ice cream . but the tres leches itself was delicious. long story short , i'll be back . read more

Having moved to VA, I wanted to find restaurants that I enjoyed back home. And I found my Pazo..Quemar, is it!! Our server explained that it means burn .. started with spicy margarita delish..well, needed cocktail on a Friday. Our server was excellent.. explained the dishes.. the ceviche melt in your mouth.. the salsa had a smoky taste, which was such a delicious surprise. We ordered dinner, which was an assortment of different dishes. Everyone's dishes were delectable. The ambiance of Quemar reminds me of the City Night with great food, great music, and service.
