We've been coming here semi regularly since they first opened. Watch them improve dramatically as far as service goes. Now they have singer on Friday and Saturday who does a great job of being kind of a background thing not prevent preventing you from talking and still enjoy enjoying the company you're hanging with. Very comfortable place with lounge type chairs and sofas. Pretty good selection of wines and beers. The tapas that we have tried, which has been a lot of different things, has been really good every single time The current favorite is the poutine. The poutine is maybe one of the best ones I've had in America. Definitely recommend it. Canadians might feel otherwise but it's pretty awesome. The spicy edamame has a great little sauce with it as well. Glad to see they're finding their niche and glad the place is open a little bit later now. Hope it continues to just get better. I came here with a Friend to catch up. We came in at 4 on a Friday with a reservation. I love anywhere that allows reservations! I was sat right away and was greeted by Rubi. She told me the specials and recommended the Pearly Leagal cocktail which was delicious! I also had the cocktail "a stone's throw" that was perfect and fruity and very refreshing. My friend had the chardonnay and really enjoyed it. We shared the charcuterie for 2 and ordered stuffed mushrooms... We ended up getting the sauteed mushrooms and our server realized the mistake and brought the stuffed mushrooms as well. I have to admit, the garlicky sauteed mushrooms were waaaay better in my opinion. We also ordered a crustini bread and that was perfect to dip in the garlic butter from the mushrooms. The food was decent and our server was friendly, which we appreciated. However, the experience was uncomfortable due to the restaurant's policy: "WE ALSO ARE UNABLE TO ACCOMMODATE STROLLERS AND CAR SEATS AND DO NOT OFFER HIGHCHAIRS OR BOOSTERS." We were surprised and disappointed that there were no options for young children or children with disabilities. Our 2.5-year-old has cerebral palsy and is unable to sit independently, so he had to sit on my lap for the entire meal. It made the visit stressful and physically uncomfortable for both of us. While I understand that some places are more adult-focused, a little flexibility or accessibility consideration would have gone a long way. Hands down the best food experience my wife and I i have had since moving to the west side. We wanted to order everything on the happy hour menu but we also wanted more reasons to come back. If you read my reviews you know I am a sucker for all things local and when given a chance I'll choose that over a chain any day. I've had Quench Taps and Tapas on my list of spots to check out for what feels like forever and tonight after a long and very busy vacation I made my way over for some appetizers and a few drinks. Luckily for me it was during their happy hour and they had so many good options that it was hard to decide. We were not only greeted right away we were also seated. So glad we came when we did because it really filled up quick. To our surprise there was even some live music which they told us happens every other Friday. The location is small, but feels bigger and seating is so cozy. While it feels more upscale it doesn't feel stuffy if you know what I mean. I'd say this place isn't for kids as it's mostly alcohol and more upscale kind of eats. They have a great wine and cocktail list as well as of course draft beers. We had ate a late lunch so we opted for mango habanero wings and the BLT Flatbread which were both on the happy hour list. They also offer a reward program to earn points off purchase and on your birthday month. Service the entire time was awesome and Cheryl our server was kind and knowledgeable. She was attentive and let us know all the specials or other great options. Her drink choice after I told her what I liked was on point and the cosmopolitan was delicious. Such an amazing experience, this restaurant is a hidden gem! It is a must try for anyone in Arizona, you will not be disappointed! My family has multiple food allergies (Gluten, Dairy & Peanuts) and almost all of the food could be modified to suit our needs. Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable about the ingredients. She was able to guide us on which dishes were safe for our allergies and make recommendations. All the food is made to order and from scratch but the wait was not bad at all. The atmosphere is very laid back with couches and low tables, it felt like sitting in a living room with friends which was different and fun! They do have traditional restaurant seating and tables if you prefer that though. We tried the hatch fries with prickly pear ketchup, stuffed mushrooms, chicken skewers, steak skewers, mango habanero wings, Korean BBQ wings, hummus, poutilemon stack cake and drinks. Everything was absolutely incredible and presented beautifully. The portion sizes are perfect, not too much or too little since they are meant to be shared. One of our favorites of the night were the skewers and wings but you cannot go wrong with any of the dishes. Came here with my husband on a Saturday night after hearing great things about the food here. To be honest, I had looked over the menu and had planned to order over half a dozen plates because I thought the portions would probably be small. We ended up ordering 4 and were more than stuffed when we left. We had to try the meat and cheese board and it was a perfect selection of several meats and cheeses, each one complementing the others. There were some sweet grapes and some briny cornichons as well, accompanied by a spoon of herbed olive oil, seeded mustard, and a wonderful balsamic. It kept every bite different and interesting! Then we had the stuffed mushrooms, each one large and meaty and filled with a luscious creamy stuffing. I could have happily eaten another whole order of them by myself! We also had the white wine buttered steak bites with mushrooms and they were divine. Hubby would have gladly slurped up the sauce from the bowl but had to content himself with soaking his bread in it. We finished off the meal with a blood orange panna cotta, which I believe was a special for that night. The panna cotta itself was creamy and not overly sweet and the blood orange floater was the perfect hit of fresh sweet and sour. The ambience was great, with wonderful eclectic decorations and the comfiest seats and couches. The only little thing that marred our evening was that our original server seemed to be afraid (?) of us and handed us off to another server, telling us that she was afraid we would make her cry. I'm not sure what gave her that idea but we enjoyed the server we did have and she spent most of the night laughing with us. I'd definitely go back again to try some of the other dishes, maybe just when we know that other server isn't there. read more

Had a local recommend this place to us and we are so glad they did! It was a great night to sit out on the patio and enjoy drinks and delicious tapas! Everything we ate was amazing; from the stuffed mushrooms to the orange chili wings and rounded it off with the steak and frites. The steak was medium rare as ordered and melted in our mouths! What a great addition to the Surprise bar scene! They mostly have wine and beer, but there's also a small selection of hard alcohol as well. The owner, Jeff, was bartending and was happy to concoct me a fruity martini that was not on the menu. The interior is modern and cozy, so don't bring a large party with you. It's great for parties of four or less with its intimate little booth areas, or you can choose to sit at the bar where I sat. The food was phenomenal as well. They don't have full entrees but they have a wide range of appetizers. I'm stoked that they have specials every day, too. Also try out their brunch! So many things to cover here. A clear assessment of an establishment is how busy it is at any given time of day. There was plenty of room...clue 1. Server had a carefree attitude when greeting us and apologized for the amount of liquor selections they had behind the bar "We are more of a wine bar"...clue 2. Appetizers arrived, very average. Meatballs were over cooked, shrimp was dry and not flavorful. Wife asked for a beverage from the menu and to add vodka to the drink. It arrived but we were charged $20! $10 for the juice drink and $10 for the vodka added. Wow! We had drinks and apps and our order for 3 people came to $145. When the server split the check in half, guess I should have she Jed the total because I saw $73 for my half. I looked across the table at my friend that had the bill and he was shocked it was $145. The owner came by and asked if everything was ok. I said "No it's our first time here and we won't be back, $20 for a drink?" He said he was sorry and walked away! Talk about an opportunity to save the night, but he failed. We leave and go down the street to our favorite spot, and my friend gets a text saying sorry and we would get a $10 credit next time in. Too late pal, lost us and guess what?? Bad news travels faster than good news by 10 fold. The news has started right here. I'd actually give it 3.5 stars if I could. Our party of 4 came in on the second day they opened, to celebrate an anniversary. We enjoyed the food very much, everything was tasty and well-presented. We had the charcuterie board, some chicken and steak skewers, the mango shrimp, and the herb-roasted nuts. Those nuts are incredible! The shrimp was probably our favorite tapas item. We appreciated the gluten-free items available, too. My sister enjoyed her flourless chocolate cake. The beer and wine offerings were good, as we enjoyed a bottle of J Cellars Chardonnay and some assorted beers. Quality non-alcoholic beer choices, too, hooray! Service was friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was inviting for a relaxing wine bar experience. My two knocks are this: When we asked for water to go with our drinks, we were given tiny glasses not much bigger than a shot glass. There was a carafe of water served, but the constant pouring necessary was annoying. We are BIG water drinkers, and I'm guessing that most other people are too. You definitely want to provide for the spacing of drinks with water. Second negative, and the biggest issue for us, was the seating. While it looks cool, the blue-gray "couches" we sat on (facing the north wall) were ridiculous for the table they are paired with. The seat height was too low (we felt like little kids trying to reach up to the table)... and the seat backs reclined back at such an awkward angle as to make a pillow behind our backs necessary for comfort (if you're not sitting up straight on the edge of the chair). Either way, it made a negative first impression. Maybe not a big deal for some, but for us, it was. We appreciate the hard work the owners are doing to have a nice little spot, we just feel like they're missing the mark a bit. We will likely be back to give it another shot. read more

It came with 2 pieces of bread. We asked for more bread and they brought out a bread stick like you would receive at Olive Garden not the bread that came with the charcuterie board. Our bill was over $200 and I went home hungry. The food is good. Atmosphere is nice. Great wine/beer/spirits options. Owner/chef came out and said hi to patrons which was really nice. I enjoy going here but I think it is overpriced for the amount of food received, My friend said the same thing. She went home hungry. (She wasn't with us, she went separately). This is a small family owned business where everything is made from scratch. Your small plates order may take a bit of time so be patient. We arrived about 5:30 on a Friday. They have a happy hour menu with reduced drinks and a few tapas at lower prices. They had a singer and guitarist and we were lucky enough to get a high top table. The owners are there working so you may meet them. We loved our 4 small plates - Blackened shrimp with mango sauce; whipped ricotta, pesto and tomato jam jar; steak bites with tiny mushrooms; stuffed mushrooms. All the plates were scrumptious, very appealing and generous portions for tapas. It was too much to eat and we savored our leftovers for lunch the next day.
