Before I got blood work this morning, the phlebotomist forced me to pay $185 for a test that I had run last week. (It was that or go to another lab, and I didn't want to fast again or miss more work.) Quest did not submit this test to my health insurance, even though I provided that last week and this week (at the same location). Last week, my phlebotomist was rude and needed to move the needle to hit my vein. Today, my phlebotomist was cordial and got blood with first stick, but I waited 20 minutes past my appointment time to get blood drawn. I won't come back to this location even though it's convenient. I'll avoid Quest and get my blood drawn at my doctor's office from now on. It's absurd to force patients to pay full price when Quest doesn't even bill the insurance company. I've got phone calls and work ahead to get some part of that $185 refunded. read more

To be clear, this is NOT a slam on the location. This is a slam on the lab people. Avoid Quest Diagnostics. They botched a set of lab tests - badly. After seeking a refund, I was told that none would be forthcoming because the lab ran the tests. To the first person on the phone, it didn't matter that the results were physically impossible. When I spoke with a manager, she said that if there was to be a refund that I would have to: 1) Tell my doctor to request the refund. 2) The doctor would have to take time out of his day to request that his Quest Sales Rep would review. 3) The Sales Rep would have to talk to the lab manager at the facility to determine if it was possible that the lab test could have had an error. 4) Then they would _consider_ issuing a refund. Now in my case it could have been something as stupid as a typo. The number they provided, if correct (it wasn't), would have indicated a growth in a place that no one wants a growth, and would have probably been an aggressive cancer. I don't have cancer, the test is wrong, and I'm good to go. Oh, and the second test took an extra 5 days because (wait for it) they were having problems with the tests so they had to fix their process. But, if you think that a lab should (a) not screw up and (b) take responsibility for it when they do screw up, then don't use Quest! I finished my call (I spent 45 minutes on the phone to get told this by a manager) by saying that I'd avoid them whenever possible. read more

Absolutely dreadful. I showed up and checked in 10 minutes early for my appointment. They are clear that if you are more than 10 minutes late you will be treated like a walk in and nobody wants that. The filthy waiting room was packed, mostly with elderly and sickly people. After a half hour, nobody was called in. Some patients started shouting through the partition separating the waiting room from the rest of the office, pleading for any information whenever a staff member surfaced. The staff never responded. Here it is, five hours later, and I'm still waiting. I recommend avoiding this location, if not Quest entirely, if at all possible. read more

Surprisingly good. Garage parking is $5 for the whole day, which works well if you're doing a walk-in or if they are running behind. Speaking of which, I did a walk-in and although the kiosk said there were no openings for the next 4.5 hours, I joined the queue and was helped 20 minutes later. Recommend you make an appointment though. The urine test went fine. Donika was efficient and nice, which is all I ask. Taking a star off just for the waiting room - no human at the front desk to answer questions, no cups for the water cooler, and poor cell service (for AT&T anyway). read more

Parking is not free, I had to complete a test twice because the tech did not give me the correct containers the first time, and I have been fighting an highly expensive incorrect bill for months since this. The check-in kiosk did not work. The healthcare worker who was assigned to help me was very unfriendly. I tried asking questions and she cut me off mid-sentence and answered a different question. After she finished talking, I tried to ask my question again and she cut me off again and answered a different question again. There is no one there to answer administrative questions. Absolutely horrific! Staff who are in the back joking around while people are waiting for 45 mins (even though there was a 13 minute listed wait time). Not friendly or efficient staff - who wear their gloves to sign then pass you the pen AFTER you've been instructed to wash your hands - gross! When I asked for more soap - yes, because apparently it's not allowed to be in bathroom, I had to ask, she wondered why. Forced to pay for parking, no cell reception in the waiting area and no wifi for those waiting, so if you need to show your paperwork, go on back to the 90's and print it out to bring it in. There are other Quest labs in the area that are more pleasant and easier to work with. read more

I'm usually pretty nervous to get my blood drawn so reading the reviews made it worse. But I had no issues I made an appointment in advance and got there a few minutes early. No one was in the waiting room and I was called in just a few minutes. Nancy took my blood and she was wonderful. I tend to get dizzy and sometimes pass out when I get blood drawn. She talked to me while she was doing it to distract me and it was over before I knew it. I was back in my car by my appointment time. Yes there is a $5 parking fee but I was in and out so fast I didn't have to pay. No complaints. And kudos to Nancy for making a situation that could be scary into a pleasant one. read more

I am on crutches. I was here today also about 10 days ago. Ranelle and Richard have been fabulous, courteous, and thoughtful. They have wanted me to sit, bringing everything to me at my seat , opening the door all with a smile! I go to labs all the time, sadly, but I had 2 great experiences. Called to ask of they would do a PKU test. They said they would. We get there and they don't have the strips. They look for them for about 10 minutes and can't find them. Then say that we called asking about a different test. We say no we didn't. Then they say that we were supposed to bring the strips from the doctor. No we aren't. I have had several lab procedures done before, however this was by far most unprofessional lab center I have ever had to go to. At first, I thought Richard was having a bad day, but this was not the case (I am assuming because of other reviews). Richard was extremely rude to not only myself, but the five other patients in the waiting room. He was very sarcastic and seemed like he was the mayor of the facility. When someone asked a question prior to check-in, he rolled his eyes and did not even bother assisting the confused individual at the check-in kiosk. He made me feel uncomfortable by rushing me during my turn- even though I was the last one to go for the time being. Parking was $4.00 and there is no ticket validation available. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If there are other lab options, go elsewhere. read more

Richard, one of the workers, was extremely unprofessional and downright rude and hostile. I can see from reading other reviews that I am not alone in my assessment. He acted like he owned the place and immediately had an attitude upon me entering the lab. I entered w 3 children. As I was getting my ID out for my pre-employment drug-screening, he loudly and bluntly overspoke the receptionist and informed me my children couldn't be there. I had my 8 year old son and my toddler as well as my son's friend. He loudly and rudely said it was on my sheet. I provided my employer letter and lab info to show no such info was posted. He refused to look. I asked to have my 8 year old sit there while I peed in a cup, you know like mothers do at home when they need to use the toilet. My son wasn't allowed even in their waiting room! I doubt that's even legal. I also wasn't allowed to take my toddler, stepped in her car seat w me or leave her w my son. None of this was communicated in a polite customer-service oriented way. When I shared I get blood tests w my children, I was told blood test is ok but not urine. I searched online and found no such policy. I shared that I was a single mother and my employer needed this test accomplished and to please allow me to let me son stay in their office and was refused. I didn't want to incite him further and left. I guess parents are supposed to pay $25 an hour, likely paying $50 to have the pleasure of their "service." I also got the impression he is friendly w the supervisor and they all doing whatever they want at this location. I'm leaving a complaint with outside management. This place is extremely sketchy and Quest needs to clean house. read more

Honestly I was upset there is $5 parking and this location is not even downtown or in a prime location. Then one lab tech turned my attitude around. KATHY IS AWESOME. They are not following COVID social distancing guidelines and have do not have needed safety practices in place. When I arrived, there was a small waiting room with many people packed in, including several standing shoulder to shoulder. I checked in on at the kiosk and it said I have a 9min wait. 50mins later I was still waiting, and there was no one at the front desk that entire time to respond to questions or ensure a more safe waiting environment. I have had very good experiences with the staff at this location, and prefer it even though it is a longer drive. The phlebotomist (Janelle) is a no nonsense professional and very quick which I like. I did have an appointment and was seen on time. I have had long wait times at other locations and surly people so I know it can be uncomfortable getting your blood drawn if the people aren't right or inexperienced, but that was not my impression here. read more

I've read all the negatives about Quest Labs. I feel obliged to recommend Fairfax Quest Lab on Main St, Fairfax Va. I always make an appointment and find that I am taken ahead of anyone waiting. As long as I am on time! If one is late then you go to walk-in status. The front desk check-in is stress-free with a professional handling the desk. She gets your paperwork ready quickly and has someone escort you to the back lab. That person is also very good at what he/she does and has the blood drawn efficiently and almost painlessly. I read the bad reviews and figured "meh, grumpy people complaining. How bad could it be?" It. Was. That. Bad. Here are the lowlights: 1) Parking is terrible. They have a lot and it's $4 per hour. The attendant is rude. 2) I had made an appointment and wasn't seen for 45 minutes AFTER my appointment had come and gone. 3) The people on staff are REMARKABLY rude. One nurse literally raised her voice at a patient because she didn't understand his very simple answer to her question. Everyone else in the room understood his answer, I know because we all discussed our amazement at her behavior after he went back. 4) HIPAA violations? It's almost a drinking game: - One nurse asked for personally identifiable information from across the room, expecting the patent just to shout it out. - Another patient had a question about a test that he wanted performed and they discussed it loudly in front of everyone. - Another patient's labs required a phone call to the doctor, which one of the nurses made loudly, using the person's full name. UPDATE: About 2 hours after I had blood drawn, I noticed my arm was hurting at the site of the draw. I took off the gauze to find the entire area around site of the draw was raised and discolored by bruising. Additionally, the needle prick was large and visible! I only have my blood drawn for my annual physical, but I have NEVER had a reaction like this! More than 36 hours later and the arm looks just as bad. I chose this location for simple blood work due to it's location right off Rt 50 and to avoid having to search for street parking in the late afternoon. Made a reservation, got confirmation of it, and showed up right on time.....only to wait 20+ minutes. They went off the sign-in sheet; reservations didn't matter. I'm used to waiting in doctors offices but I'm not sure why Quest advertises the quickness and convenience of making appointments if it doesn't matter at all. Going to Quest lab, I expected to wait, even with an appointment. What I did not expect was how rude one of the employees at the Carlin Springs location, Richard, was. He continuously came out into the waiting area asking people "what are you here for?" He did not go by the queue based on when people arrived and which people had appointments. I'm pretty sure it's a violation of HIPAA to ask people what they're there for in a very small waiting room. This guy NEEDS to find a new job and a relaxation method because he is very tense - it's really not that serious. I hope Quest is monitoring their reviews because this drawing station particular one staff member should find another place to work because she is not customer focused. A woman who was in the front desk was not welcoming. She demonstrated lack of customer service, no eye contact, nor any sense of welcoming in her attitude. She did not give you eye contact when giving instructions and her demeanor showed lack of interested. When she gave instructions, she did not even address you what to do, she would read from a script-like approach. Example: Go to the bathroom, do this and that. Come out and do this and that. I will not get into details but she did not include "Please, you" it was sterile and dry attitude. Quest, maybe she needs to stay in the back part of the drawing station and just put specimens away for shipment and never have contact with patients. I will not give this drawing station any stars(though I have to in order to continue to the review) and will not recommend anyone to go to this location. I would give zero stars if possible. I was at this location to have a urine drug test completed for my new job. The receptionist (I should have gotten her name) was absolutely the rudest person ever. She felt the need to talk to me as if I was completely stupid. I did not have the proper paperwork from my new employer for the test. When I asked if she would like to speak to my employer so that they could give the information needed to complete the test, she said "I don't need to speak to them, you should have brought the right forms with you in the first place." She was horrible!! I had to stand in front of her trying to get her attention for over 2 minutes while waiting on her to complete a PERSONAL phone call on her cell phone. I suggest that this location hire a new front desk receptionist who actually appears that she wants to do her job and is friendly at the same time. She has no business working with people. read more
