I came at 4:50pm , they close at 5pm . The lady told me that they are closed and I kept telling her that it's not 5pm. She told me to wait and then after the fact told me she couldn't take me. I made an appointment to get blood drawn and it was an efficient process to book online, and the tablet kiosk allowed for easy check in and it scans your ID and insurance card to streamline the process. I went at 9:20am and there was no one else there. There was only one tech (there's only one room anyway) and she was very nice and professional. She explained that they only allow limited appointments given the single tech here, but that it's generally less hectic at these "in-Safeway" labs vs the larger labs located in medical centers. They do allow walk-ins and while I'd imagine they can't always accommodate you, the nice thing is you can pop in, see how many people are waiting in the waiting room, and then figure out whether they can get you in in the time you have. I do know these labs have a generally bad rep for long wait times, harried personnel, etc, but based on my one experience here, it went about as smoothly as it could. The billing was also efficient as they were able to collect payment for the amount their system estimated insurance wouldn't cover and in the case where their system couldn't determine what my share would be, they said they'd just send a bill and collected the sample no problem. Had to get lab work on empty stomach, wasn't able to make any appointments as my mornings had been very busy and unpredictable at work. So finally after a month of scheduling and cancelling the appointments, decided to just walk in. I have been to this location before once, just few months ago. In my previous experience, I had walked in, was given a wait time of 15 minutes, got my blood drawn for lab work, was in and out in 30-40 minutes. However the lady staff today morning was hell bent on not serving any walk ins. Whether or not she was available. Whether or not their system obviously is set up to allow walk ins. While I was checked in and the only person waiting, she came and told me it could be 3 hours of wait. She may not be able to take me in. And that just because she is free and doing nothing I shouldn't assume that she has nothing else to do. I was surprised at this downpour on me, coming out of nowhere at 8ish in the morning. The next appointment person arrived 10 minutes before their scheduled time, she took them in and was done in 3-4 mins. Then she took the next person whose appointment would start 10 mins later and made them sit and kept chatting with her while this person agreed on the topic of discussion- " I really don't like people who come without appointments" " oh it will only take her few minutes to book an appointment ".... And this chat went on for next 10 minutes - within which in my opinion she could have taken me in and finished the work needed before the appointment time for the person she was chatting with, was going to kick in. They sat within few feets of me, throwing out their judgements on their agenda at hand about appointments. I decided to leave them to their discussion, it was already 40 minutes since I was waiting. Just went and bought some great flowers at Safeway, headed for a beautiful day outside. Needless to say, won't be visiting again at this quest location. read more

I haven't been to a Quest Diagnostic lab in years but have visited several locations in the past. I was under the impression that QD had stopped accepting my insurance until my insurance said otherwise. I was pretty happy to hear that since BioReference closed its Sunnyvale and Mountain View labs. This was my first time visiting a Quest in a Safeway. It was a welcome change since it gives you something to do when there is a wait. Patient service centers aren't known for their efficiency; they are often short staffed and people frequently walk in instead of setting an appointment. When I last visited a Quest lab, they had upgraded to having a TV display patient names. Quest has continued to make improvements since then. (If you prefer a dedicated receptionist, you might call it a downgrade. Things could be worse, though -- the phlebotomist could be going back and forth between doing paperwork and drawing blood.) Instead of signing in at a front desk with a person, I was able to input my information on a tablet. If you scheduled an appointment, you can choose to scan the QR code from your appointment reminder or confirmation email. I was able to scan my ID card and insurance card, which the tablet claimed would expedite the process. There was one patient in the waiting room when I arrived. They were called in shortly after I checked in. By the time I got into the blood drawing room, it was 3 minutes until my appointment time. As per usual, the phlebotomist asked me to verify my personal information, asked which side I preferred to have blood drawn from, and performed the procedure. It did some time to input my information into the computer, but I was fine with her taking time to ensure I was billed properly and the results would be sent to my specialist. All in all, I was in and out within 15 minutes, and part of the time was because they recommended you arrive 10 minutes early. I ended my fast by getting a Starbucks drink and breakfast burrito. Overall, I had a good experience. The phlebotomist was very sweet and I didn't have to wait long. I wish Quest would do a better job staffing their labs, but I think this lab is good as it can be given their circumstances. For your reference, my appointment was at 9:10 am on a Wednesday. Since I had to choose a new medical Dr. that honored Covered CA patients he gave me a prescription for a blood draw from Quest Diagnostics. I had never heard of them but it appears Quest Diagnostics and Lab Corp. are the two independent labs medical doctors use. Apparently I found out Quest Diagnostics locations are carefully hidden away in the back of Safeway Chain stores. I noticed the good reviews on Yelp of the one hidden in the Safeway in Mountain View that was nearby and decided to go here. I got there early and found the door at the very back of the Safeway with a sign for Quest Diagnostics next to the pharmacy. First thing I found out the hard way that if you don't enter your information at the Quest Diagnostics kiosk nothing is going to happen. This is either you have or don't have an appointment. This is a no frills place where in my case the Phlebotomist stayed in her room until the computer tells her from the kiosk will she come out and ask for you by name. If I had known that I could have saved me a lot of time. So I wound up waiting over an hour to figure that out while patients with appointments came and went. Lesson learned. The Phlebotomist I saw that day was a nice mature lady named Minka from Bulgaria. She was very friendly and talkative. I was shocked when she started to pull out so many blood specimen vials for my blood draw. She was very nice about it and I did get a bit of a bruise that took a while to heal. I read on the wall that all the specimens go to Sacramento for analysis. At least I got it done and since I had to not eat for 8 hours prior to the blood draw it was nice to treat myself to a Starbucks on my way out of the Safeway feeling hungry and a pound lighter! read more

We've all been to the Quest Lab on Grant Rd, waited an hour or longer to be seen, observed un-happy fasting patients be uncomfortable in the waiting room, and either left because we didn't have time for the ludicrous wait or come out with a bruise after the procedure, for whatever reason. This new location is loads better, but consider making an appointment on the Quest Diagnostics website anyway, if you expect prompt service. Please be nice to your phlebotomist, because Quest pays $6-7 less an hour than say, Palo Alto Medical Foundation or Kaiser. We are lucky to have decent blood suckers at Quest Labs! Pros: I've been to this new Safeway location, twice now, once in the morning and once at 1pm. Both times, I was the ONLY patient there... possibly because I made an appointment? Brand new location, much smaller than the Grant Rd. location. Uses a Self-Check-In touch screen (instead of a human). There's a classy portrait of Watson and Crick on the wall. Cons: I did come out with a bruise. You have to apply PRESSURE to the site/needle hole for TEN MINUTES to give your blood time to clot, so it won't leak out of your vein and leave you with a bruise. Not all the phlebotomists/venipuncturists will tell you this or emphasis it enough. Small Lab - my review may help fill it up with people. Staffed by 1 single phlebotomist, maybe that will change. Right-handed chair! Good luck getting drawn from your Left, there's no space for the phlebotomist to stand to do your left. (Left side of chair is directly against the wall.) This was fantastic. Excellent customer service, wonderful woman who does your blood draw, comforting, fast, efficient, and pain-free. I really enjoyed this lab, and this was my first time to this location. I've been to the other location on Grant Road, which is much larger and much busier. I also really appreciated that I could schedule an appointment online ahead of time, which I hadn't known about before. We went there a day or two ago, around 20 minutes away from closing time, and everything was professional and great. The elder lady(nurse?) working there was very compassionate and helped with all the paperwork that the hospital had not sent. And despite my fear of needles, everything went smooth. However, right before closing, an irate customer came in and was very rude, demanding some things I couldn't quite understand despite being past closing. It was a very tense situation, and I was sort of caught in the middle just watching. However, the nurse kept her demeanor and calm, trying to cool down the situation. I don't normally leave reviews, but would like to give thanks for all the help, and the professionalism despite some hostile words being passed. read more

I have a bone to pick with quest because i need to get a blood test every month and in Marin County, you have to book 3-4 days in advance! In the south Peninsula they have Quest everywhere even in the Safeway which i love and that phlebotomist there is so positive and nice and if your a little late she won't throw you out on your ear! I hate using Quest in Marin because their are so few of them and a lot of people. I feel it will just get worse in Marin because of the price of Real estate and people that are clerks and CNA's and pharmacy techs and teachers cannot afford to live here.Also just trying to go out for a good meal is astronomical and there are few restaurants that are any good. Fast food has excitotoxins in it and should only be eaten occasionally not everyday. They are finding out that it causes early alzheimers disease. Hopefully the food industry will turn it self around when people wise up to this! read more

Walked in and was seen right away by a very nice phlebotomist named Kylie. She did a great job walking me through the info she needed. Despite the fact that I was pretty dehydrated that day and had flat veins, she skillfully drew my blood, with no discomfort at all, and was very friendly in the process! I'll happily return here for my next blood test. Regarding Cato's review about not being able to draw blood from the left arm due to the position of the chair, this was not an issue. The chair has a bar that swings down in front to provide a flat surface on which to rest either arm. We took blood from both left & right arms without issue (I had a lot of vials to fill and my right arm was pumping too slowly to fill them all). I had no bruising on either arm, but we all clot a little differently, so your results may vary. Keeping the cotton ball taped to your arm for at least ten minutes is *always* the best way to avoid bleeding/bruising. read more

Caveat Emptor!!!! ( Latin for " let the buyer be ware"). After paying for a fasting lab test at this location. I arrived on time for my appointment. I Checked in and was seen by the phlebotomist. I sat in the room while she looked at the computer. She said that she was understaffed and could not see any patients. I asked why and she said her boss didn't show up for work. She handed my lab slip back to me and sent me to another location, without giving me a refund. She did the same to everyone else in the waiting room and closed the lab. If I could give 0 stars I would. I never got a refund. This is dishonest business and I will never use this company again. This is not a review of the lab technician who was great. It is a review of Quest processes which are the most inefficient and impractical of all the labs in the Bay Area. I needed to do a stool sample. Instead of having readily available kits, was told I had to make an appt. to get a stool kit or wait as a walk in. It was a plastic container in a zip lock bag- no collection cup, instructions etc that PAMF provides. She then said it had to be brought in within an hour but I needed another appt to drop it off, BUT all appointments were full for that day and most days. So if I didn't bring it in within an hour, I had to keep it frozen!! How inconvenient is that??!! read more

I brought my 3 yr old for a TB test, which required blood drawing. The phlebotomist was very inexperienced with kids. She tried on both arms and failed to get any blood. And it was really painful for my kid because she had to move the needle around to find the vein. Quest needs to train their employees better or tell them to refer patients to those who can do the job properly. read more

This is absolutely the worst place to go. I had an ultrasonic test and tried to pay the bill multiple times either up front at the desk or make phone call and failed to make the payment. Eventually the bill was send to debt collection!!! The incompetency of the billing department shocked me!! Never go there again! read more

According to her, the second stick was my fault because I should have drank more fluids and the 3rd one was her fault.
