First, a self-employed person does not get a W-2. A self-employed person files, tax returns based on self-employed income not a salary. They are not a W-2 employee of a company. Also, a self-employed person does not get paystub so they would have no end of year paystub to show them. Clearly they do not hire people with higher education who understand anything about finance. This company is trying to squeeze you in the door to give you the highest rate with the smallest possible loan just so they can close it. The person I spoke to got frustrated when I tried to explain that W-2s are only for salaried employees not for self-employed people and that self employed people also do not get paystubs She wanted to tell me that I didn't know what I was talking about and got frustrated since clearly I had more information about financing than she did in her limited capacity to try and get a loan for me . She actually said these words "I don't wanna argue about finances, sir, and at this point, I thanked her for her time and hung up the phone. First off you shouldn't get frustrated with a customer on the call, if you find yourself getting frustrated you should say, can you put you on a short hold and take a breather and maybe ask a manager to help not just want to be right. They also should ask the manager or someone who knows something about taxes, who Self-employed and who is a W-2 salaried employee because this girl had no idea. They clearly are not a company that hires people that understand real finances. I was more than horrified by the actions of the person I spoke to, the actions of the company who clearly gives you a fake approval over the Internet, and cannot do their jobs. We've called in over a dozen times each and the rep thinks they can figure out the problem only to find out there is nothing they can do as their solutions failed and that we will have to wait 1 business day for a follow up call from a specialist. EVERY FREAKING TIME, they NEVER CALL BACK. So we have to call back and wait on hold again for 45 minutes for them to go through the whole routine and state: "a specialist will call you in one business day." I feel like I'm in the twilight zone while trying to work with this broken credit union. My mother and I have not been able to see our statements or anything for many many months now (during a pandemic and recession). My mother is too afraid to enter the bank due to Covid so she can't even leave the credit union. She is essentially stuck. I will be cancelling 20 years of being a customer next week. Oh yeah, and after telling the person on the phone this, all they did was give us excuse after excuse about why they are having issues. I don't care! I did deduct one point from a perfect score because Travis did not give me an ATM card unto the second try and then failed to mail a pin code which I have read in other reviews as well. They told me they went with a new company that delivers the PIN code and I have requested this several times and was ordered a few times but never came. I ordered it to the bank itself to be kept in their vault they said-NEVER came! I ordered it to the house-NEVER came! I gave up and don't use the ATM anyway as I go into the bank itself which you do not need a card like other banks so they tell me. I have never withdraw yet because it is in a multi-month CD so when the time comes I will update it it goes smoothly to withdraw my money or not?! That kind of makes me suspect in reality why are they having so much trouble with a PIN code being delivered to its customers-like do they want to prevent people taking their money out!? However, I did check and TCU has a good and solid bank rating. It is insured by the NCUA (like FDIC but for credit unions). At least making some money, since regular big banks are not giving anything other than pennies literally. So I will update if anything is questionable or not good, but so far it has been great and I earned a good amount. I did rollover into the best interest rate again although it was a bit lower, but still decent among the brick and mortar. You can get quite a bit sometimes with online banking, but I honestly do not trust online banking because there is no place you can go to if sometghing happens and they shut down and cannot reach them online or on the phone, who can you go to?! At least the brick and mortar places, you have someone you can yell at or get your money hopefully and I mean if they invested in a physical place with employees,etc more of a chance it is invested in its company. Updated to add: manager read my Yelp and personally called to help me with getting an ATM card and PIN code. She apologized for the problem and said she will do anything to make it right! Way to go- I appreciated it being a customer and not just an account number like in the big banks. I like TCU even more now!
