    Old is gone

Just had my 50 year old cracked concrete driveway replaced by Quickel Paving. Being a senior widow, I was hesitant to commit to such a big job but was pleasantly surprised. The crew showed up when they said they would , got started right away, each phase went smoothly. I was almost expecting something to go wrong but it all went perfectly. I'm very happy with the results. One more thing - the crew was very professional, answered all my questions and the area was left clean.

We just had Quickel Paving repave our complex in Park Tustin. They did an absolutely terrible job. The roads are bumpy, some people thought they had a flat tire, several areas look like patchwork, other areas look just plain dirty. Not a smooth new nice blacktop look all. Very unprofessional looking. The complex actually looks worse than it did before the repaving.

Work was supposed to be completed by Friday, May 12, 2023 by Noon. (Friday was supposed to be just painting stripes & parking lines).

Our association of Sherwood Village in Anaheim hired Quickel to repave our community. The work was divided into 6 zones. We are very early in the project, with one of the zones being rained out. The weather was something no one expected in the month of May. But on 2 of the first 3 zones Quickel worked on, they damaged the waterlines causing community-wide water outages that lasted about 8+ hours each occurrence. Due to them hitting the water lines, the pavement laying in those areas was delayed. In my zone, the delay lasted through the weekend, and currently about half of my zone does not yet have pavement. This was work that was to be completed & painted by noon on Friday, May 12, 2023. With their record of hitting water lines I could not recommend Quickel Paving for any community. Time will tell if they hit water lines in the other zones of our complex, but to do the same mistake twice in two days is not a good precedent. The paving they did complete does look nice. The negatives are the damage they caused to the waterlines, the delay it caused the project, and that Quickel did not have staff working on the weekend to complete the work that was supposed to be completed by noon on May 12. I realize that they probably didn't want to pay overtime, but this delay was not weather related, it was the negligence of the Quickel staff, and they should have had their staff working the weekend to catch-up for the delay they caused. I'm hoping Sherwood Village will receive a significant discount from the bid amount due to the massive inconvenience of the water outages and delays they (Quickel) caused. Anyone residing in an HOA should ensure that their Board Members have looked into the bidders consumer reviews in sites like Yelp and Google PRIOR to entering into any agreements/contracts. Often times a Management Company will recommend entities that are very shady or incompetent. Update: Tuesday - May 16, 2023 the zone that was supposed to be completed on 5/12/23 is still just bare dirt. I received a mass email from The Management Trust (our property manager) today that Quickel has informed them that the work will be completed by 5:00 P.M. on Friday, May 19, 2023. This means around 30 homes will be without garage access for 10 days. The dumpster in that area is overfilled and will not be able to be emptied during this timeframe. Update 5/18/23 - We are being told by Management Trust that the entrance will be loose dirt (almost need 4x to traverse) until at least May 25th. The 30+ homes have still been out of their garages, and today it appears that Quickel struck again, as there is another water outage. It seems that they are surprised that water lines are located underground. No telling how much longer this project will be delayed now. Anyone else in Sherwood Village Anaheim, please leave your own review of this paving company here and on Google. Update 5/24/23 - Quickel Paving hit yet another water line causing a community-wide water outage that lasted most of the day. This is the 4th time they have done this. There are only 6 zones in this project. Quickel Paving has hit waterlines causing massive water outages in 4 of the 6 zones, and they have not yet completed the project that was to be completed by 5/19/23. The last estimated date of completion was June 5th, but that was before they damaged the water line yesterday which may delay the project even further. We still have just a dirt roadway into our complex that has been dirt since May 17th when they took out the pavement but didn't repave.

Oil drips every 3 inches or so all the way around the block.

Quickel Paving was hired by our HOA to patch several driveways in our neighborhood. You can see where they went with their vehicles, because they leaked oil (not patch material) up and down each driveway. Their vehicles leaked oil on the sidewalks, and dripped oil down the street. You can follow the drips from driveway to driveway around the block. The HOA's lazy butts aren't doing anything about it, just ignoring, and so is Quickel. I do not recommend this company, they are unprofessional, and have made my driveway and street look junky with oil stains. No, the hydraulic fluid you company left is oil. Hydraulic fluid is an oil (show how much you know) and was not left by the trash company because I watched your workers leak oil as the went up and down the driveway. Nice try, but try again.

I'm still puzzled. What is the point of this sealcoating and curb painting exercise? Power washing was good, but what happened after that? Sealcoating job is terrible, uneven with unsealed cracks. They threw a road reflector in the middle of the street, not even attached to the pavement. They painted over some plants (see pictures attached). What is going on? This is just not right.

The difference Quickel Paving makes is night and day

I originally connected with them through Thumbtack for a sizable project and scheduled an appointment for Thursday, June 4th at 11:00 a.m. The appointment was canceled just 20 minutes before they were due to arrive. To salvage the opportunity, the salesperson, Chris, texted me and offered to come the following day at noon instead, along with a 5% discount for the inconvenience. I rearranged my schedule twice to accommodate them during what was already an exceptionally difficult time, as I was preparing to say goodbye to my 16-year-old dog that weekend. Chris did arrive on Friday as promised, but a week has now passed and I have received neither a bid nor any follow-up communication from anyone at the company. Shortly after the appointment, their Thumbtack profile was also removed or hidden. While I can't say why, the timing was odd, as it prevented me from leaving a review on the platform where we originally connected. I've uploaded screenshots with this review documenting the interaction, including Chris's last-minute cancellation, his offer of a 5% discount, and the Thumbtack notification showing the company was no longer available on the platform. If reliability, communication, and follow-through are important to you, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

There are renovations that improve a home -- and then there are renovations that fundamentally…read morerecalibrate how that home exists within its environment. What Byron Schley and the team at Hillside Pavers delivered for us falls squarely into the latter category. Ours is one of the oldest houses on the block, my grandfather built it himself in the early seventies so needless to say there is sentimental value here, the years were told loudly in its dated facade ever more blindly as one by one and year by year the houses around us became more modern and desirable and that contrast was ever more noticeable when it became every other house on the block. Before this project, our front yard was little more than a narrow, uninspired strip adjacent to the public sidewalk that functioned more like spillover from the street than usable property. It did nothing to reflect the scale or architectural presence of our three-story, beach-adjacent home. Today, that same footprint operates as a private, structured courtyard -- a defined outdoor living space that feels intentional, modern, and architecturally integrated. The Techo-Bloc paver installation is executed with geometric discipline and clean proportional balance. The contrasting border trim sharpens the layout, and the modular patterning reads refined rather than repetitive. Where water once pooled visibly, the drainage now performs efficiently and invisibly -- The upgraded water line alone was transformative. What used to produce barely a trickle now delivers pressure so strong it rivals commercial output .The underground drip irrigation system is intelligently concealed beneath the hardscape and reemerges precisely within the base of our large entry planters. It is automated, timer-controlled, and calibrated for plant health without visual clutter. For us gardening is a foreign labor, the system removes guesswork and replaces it with precision. It lays the groundwork for what will be Madagascar jasmine and Rainbow's End climbing roses to ascend the custom trellis Speaking of the trellis -- it is a custom design by Byron himself and serves as the architectural anchor of the entire entry sequence. Its linear steel geometry frames the approach to the home, introduces vertical rhythm, and gives the courtyard presence and scale. The black powder-coated aluminum slat fencing, set atop a raised paver foundation, creates privacy without heaviness. The laser-cut gate beneath the trellis introduces texture and artistry, especially when lit from behind at night. And the lighting system integrated along the fence base and entryway is hospitality-grade in execution. The perimeter wash creates a subtle floating effect. The laser-cut gate panels glow from behind in layered depth rather than harsh brightness. With full color customization available, the space can transition from understated architectural white to vibrant holiday displays with precision. It feels closer to a Ritz-Carlton courtyard or private club environment than a residential frontage. Most importantly, the project didn't just improve appearance -- it created usable square footage. It has become the preeminent gathering space of our home. it is upscale functional living space. The neighborhood response has been immediate .Neighbors who we barely knew for years have introduced themselves. Passersby stop to compliment the change. The property now projects the level of architectural coherence it always deserved. We approached this cautiously. Prior experiences made us exacting and demanding clients. Byron handled that with patience and professionalism. When questions arose, they were addressed. The end result reflects accountability and pride in workmanship. Hillside Pavers is not inexpensive -- but quality rarely is. There is a tangible difference between budget work and engineered, finished craftsmanship. This project did not simply beautify our home. It expanded it. If you are seeking exterior transformation that blends infrastructure, architecture, lighting design, and true spatial creation -- Byron Schley delivers work that justifies the investment. The result is not just attractive. It is world class work accompanied by attentive customer service . Rarely do you see people that live by the age old idiom anymore who's motto is the customer is always right! But With this outfit that's exactly what you receive and working with them was transformative . I highly recommend their services to any and everyone who are sick of simply average work and service that only toes the industry line, if you want something more, something world class and a good experience throughout call Byron Schley and hillside pavers (+1 (714) 613-2500) , I cannot sing their praises high enough and this review doesn't even give them the credit they deserve so one last time Thank You Byron and thank the boys down at hillside pavers for an amazing job

We were referred to Hillside Pavers by a close friend who had completed a similar project not long before ours, and that recommendation gave us a lot of confidence going in. After going through the process ourselves, I can absolutely see why they spoke so highly of the company. From the beginning, Byron made the design and estimating process feel very clear and professional. One thing I really appreciated was that he used an iPad on-site to draw out the design, calculate measurements, and price everything very accurately. It was not a vague "ballpark estimate" type of process -- it felt transparent, exact, and easy to visualize, which gave us a lot of confidence moving forward. Byron also helped us finalize the color choices, especially for the walkway, and his suggestions made a big difference in the final look. Roberto, who supervised the on-site construction work, was also excellent. He really listened to my concerns, took the time to discuss details with me, and most importantly followed through in the actual work without any issues. That meant a lot to me because I care about both design and functionality, and he handled both very well. Casandra in the office and Oscar as the business manager were also great throughout the process. They were organized, responsive, and helped keep everything coordinated smoothly, which made the whole experience much less stressful. What stood out most about Hillside Pavers overall was that they listened to our preferences and worked with us instead of pushing a one-size-fits-all solution. The workmanship, communication, and attention to detail were all strong, and the finished project truly transformed the property. During the project and especially after completion, we received numerous compliments from neighbors and friends, which really confirmed for us how well everything came together. I would absolutely recommend Byron, Roberto, Casandra, Oscar, and the entire Hillside Pavers team.
