We came on a Saturday morning around 11am. It was busy but not too packed. We didn't have to wait in line for too long. There were lots of beautiful and yummy baked goods: muffins, breads, donuts, etc. We had a pumpkin pastry, a jelly filled donut and a blueberry scone. My favorite was the pumpkin pastry I also had the s'mores latte with almond milk. My friend had the mocha latte with oak milk. It was a great place for a Saturday meet up with friends. There was limited seating - we grabbed a stool in the corner. My friend mentioned how they used to have tables and chairs outside but they didn't anymore.

I feel as if I've been handing out glowing reviews too readily as of late. Maybe I need to patronize more mediocre places. That process won't begin with Guglhupf, however, which is far from mediocre. I stopped by the Chapel Hill location in search of fresh bread and was really impressed with the selection. They had sweet loaves (got one with figs, and it's been great with goat cheese and/or jelly), savory loaves, sandwich bread, pretzels, croissants, and more. Counter staff were friendly, and prices aren't as high as you'd think. About the only downside is that there isn't much room for dine in. Otherwise, das ist very much gut.

I came on a Saturday morning and parking was a bit chaotic but the line went fast and the chai latte was so good. Also got a cheese danish which was really good- almost $5 so pretty expensive in my opinion but this is more of a special occasion place than an every week visit. It's a cute little shop and there is also outdoor seating. It usually always pretty busy.

Great food! Terrific baked goods! Decent coffee! So WHY 3 stars?! I have been here a few times and noticed that when ordering their version of a ham and cheese croissant (can't recall the name off the top of my head) it is NEVER heated or warmed - ugh - this totally distracts from the overall experience and quality of their baked goods. I mean, I realize you guys are crazy busy, and have a fantastic product, but still, really!?! I would be happy to wait an extra three minutes to have it warmed up. No, I really, really would. The coffee is nice and I would recommend it as well. The ambience is typical for coffee shop/bakery (cosy, delightful smells, and visually appealing). Everyone working there is really nice and works hard to move the line along.

I love Guglhupf, their selection of pastries is never lacking and they are always made to perfection! This time I got the spinach feta danish and carrot cake sweetbread, as well as the shamrock matcha. I wouldn't recommend the shamrock matcha, the minty flavor was really artificial and reminded me of toothpaste. Definitely didn't blend well with the matcha. I loved the pastries though, the spinach feta was crispy but soft on the inside, and I loveddd the flavor combination (zucchini, carrots and and walnuts) in the carrot cake. The frosting on top was delish too! Seating is pretty limited inside but there are a few tables outside. Definitely more of a grab and go spot but I will always be coming back here!!

As others mentioned, it was a bit busy, but we were in and out of the line quickly. A great selection of pastries, breads and tarts. We had the cheese danish which was very light and flaky.

We celebrated a birthday today with cake from here. The cake was beautifully decorated and adorned with pieces of fruit. The cake is dense and decadent. It's mouth watering, melts in your mouth, magnificent, kind of chocolate mousse cake with a thin layer of raspberry layered in. The pictures should explain how decadent this cake.

Improved outdoor seating! Tables are level and there are umbrellas.

I rarely get to Chapel Hill (traffic!!), but when I do go further than Wegman's, it's usually to Trader Joe's and this mini-Guglhupf. A shadow of it's older sibling, nonetheless, they are able to make a quick coffee and bread something to look forward to and savor. When I first came to this place, the outdoor area was just a concrete pad, and the tables wobbled horribly. There was little shade, that I recall. Now, there is nicely built decking, wooden tables, and loads of umbrellas. They have planted grasses and flowers around the area, so, yes, it's a sidewalk beside a parking lot, it's also a place to enjoy that well-made coffee drink and one of their signature fantastic baked items. How could they improve? Offer a way to re-heat breads for immediate consumption. Doesn't have to be much - microwave, broiler, whatever, just a way to get the cheese gooey again on that wonderful danish!

Popped into Guglhupf Bake Shop after searching madly for a cool lounge/ beer garden. We got mixed up with the locations and didn't realize that the other location was the beer garden. The glass case was nearly empty by the time of our visit. I got the Cinnamon Schnecke. It was a tasty afternoon trip and satisfied my sweet tooth. It's full of cinnamon and a good size/portion. I hope to try the beer garden the next time I visit the area. I would definitely come back to this location but would like to return earlier in the day to see what the full glass case has in it. I went to Guglhupf on a Saturday morning-lunch, and there was a line almost out the door! Luckily, I needed that time to decide on what I wanted because everything looked amazing. Their pastries are beautiful. They have loaves of day-old bread available at a 40% discount and I will definitely grab some soon. They have a small seating area outside and in their store, but (in store) it was pretty messy with crumbs- I assume a kid was eating a flaky danish or croissant there. The service was great (and fast) despite the long line- everyone was super friendly, which was wonderful.

Chai latte and anything form their baked goods. Chai latte can be quite sweet. But you can't go wrong with a drip coffee either. We love their freshly baked bread and any of their pastries

Guglhupf is located near Trader Joe's in a plaza with collection of other shops. At the moment it's grab-and-go only with no indoor seating. There is a small outdoor patio. I arrived midday Sunday and there were a good number of customers but it wasn't overly crowded. If you're interested in their baked goods, hop in line so you can peruse the baked goods case. Looking at their website, it looks like they have a bake schedule if you're looking for a particular bread and/or you can order in advance online and select your location to pick-up. If you're interested in a drink, the menu is located near the entrance and you order at the register. We tried (these 4 items came out to ~$19): * Red pepper & olive focaccia: SO GOOD! Definitely recommend toasting it. The outside was crisp and the inside texture was springy. At home I paired it with a sunny side up egg and it was delicious. * Cherry & cheese danish: The cherry and cheese paired well together. The cherry flavor brought a little bit of tartness and the cheese was a savory note that both worked to lift the pastry taste to be balanced and not too sweet. * Latte (12 oz): solid! The service was relatively quick too. * Vanilla Latte (16 oz): This wasn't my drink, but the review was that it was good. At the register, you can choose from a wide (10+) variety of flavors. Service was efficient and friendly. My only wish is that they had more savory baked goods! Could be that I need to come earlier in the day. Will definitely be back to treat myself to a delightful baked good and/or check out their bigger location (bakery, cafe, and biergarten) in Durham.

Guglhupf is gorgeous energy. Bake shops are a hit or miss. THIS IS A HIT!! I know it's good because I ate my food cold and I would come back again. Veggie gallet : egg, onion, cheese, mushroom veggie gallet was so good. I know it was good because I was still stuffing my face while it was cold. It was rich in flavor. simple yet filled with texture and ingredients. This was a winner. Cheese and cheese danish. This is the best danish I've ever had. I don't think I ever want a danish that's not from here. It was like a croissant. So flakey. With a glaze. The perfect amount of sweetness. PERFECT EVEN amount of cheese and cherry jam. I don't even like cherry. BUT THIS?? Incredible vibes. I barley took a picture before realizing I was half way done with it. Unlike any danish I've ever tried. Oh because it was the BEST danish I've ever had. Thank you guglhupf For great vibes and great desert. They've mastered the sweet and savory!! I can't wait to come back and try more.

I was lucky enough to get regular weekly bread deliveries from Box Turtle Bakery for awhile there…read more I happened to be on Abraham's weekly route, so it worked out. Now I'll have to actually venture out to Carrboro's Farmer's Market or South Estes Farmer's Market to get his home baked breads and treats. And when I say home baked, I mean literally baked in the special custom designed wood burning bread baking oven attached to the home bakery in his house. Abraham's philosophy is to work closely with local farmers and use fresh milled organic and local grains for his breads and other baked goods where ever possible. Of course, he sells locally too. If you can't get to him at the farmer's markets, you can always work out a time to pick up your order at the Bakery itself. What can I say? You have to work for it a bit, but it sure is worth it. Oh, and just to trip you up, expect some variety! Abraham likes to try new and different recipes and there's something interesting to sink your teeth into and wake up your taste buds just about every week. Disclaimer: I count Abraham as a friend so, yes, I'm pretty excited about what he's doing. But, come on... this isn't some spongy boring white bread with dubious nutritional value we're talking about. This is SERIOUS BREAD! Don't even tell me your mouth isn't watering right now. "VERY hole-in-the-wall Middle Eastern patisserie"…read more This gives hole-in-the-wall new meaning. The location is in a strip-mall that's set back a ways from 55, so it's not really visible from the street at all. However, it's weirder than that-- you have to drive AROUND the strip mall to the back, past the various loading docks for other stores, and they you see this place is open just from the BACK of the strip mall. I heard the owner is Algerian, but there are many Palestinian references and flags around the shop, so if that's triggering, then know this in advance before coming in. Still, the place is brightly lit and airy, with tables to eat. They do custom cakes, cupcakes, and other desserts, but we just wanted to sample some sweets. Hours are funny-- just midday Friday through Sunday. We ordered a pecan brownie and a pistachio chocolate dish with kunafa (shredded Middle Eastern pastry), as well as a mocha coffee. The mocha coffee was rich and delicious, as expected. The pistachio chocolate dish with kunafa was to-die-for... SO delicious. Super thick and messy, as you'd hope it would be. And of course the pecan brownie was amazing. I will say the pastries are not "cheap". I got a single tahini chocolate chip cookie to go for a friend, and that was $4.50 for a modest sized cookie. The other dishes above were in the $6 range. But these are unusual custom-made dishes, so it's fair.

Both the atmosphere and the menu are a mix of French and Arabic, so I got a cherry-infused chocolate cake and some sort of cheese and za'atar savory bun, along with a cardamom chai. The chai flavor was interesting, but not altogether strong, while the cake was as delicious as it looked. My cheese pastry was strongly salty, for better or for worse. The price reflects the quality of the food more than the location, let's say, but I was glad I went.

We got a pack of 8 chocolates (admittedly they did cost a pretty penny haha), which ranked from my most to least favorite are: 1. Horchata: So good, the horchata essence hit me as soon as I took a bite. Very cinnamony, very milky & creamy. 2. Passionfruit: I'm a sucker for anything passionfruit. The curd-like filling did not taste artificial at all. 3. Almond cardamom: Topped with a real almond, but more cardamom forward, reminded me of chai. 4. Hazelnut sassy monkey: Distinguished more coffee than banana, but it was there. Also liked the layer of crunch. 5. Raspberry lychee: The raspberry jam was strong and tasty, the floral essence from lychee was subtle. 6. Sesame matcha: Surprisingly citrusy? I did taste some bitterness from the matcha and appreciated the earthy sesame crust. 7. Ube: Sadly did not detect much ube flavor. 8. Earl grey lavender: Definitely the prettiest, but tasted like what I imagine soap would taste like. In terms of whether the chocolate is worth the price: I've never had this experience of trying such diverse and interesting chocolate flavors before so it was for me. Ambiance is nice, I think there was only outside seating. There's good parking nearby in the Brightleaf lots or on W Pettigrew St. Service was fast and friendly. 8/10 would recommend!
