I went here last weekend with a friend, because it was one of the few places I found online that allows dogs on the premises nearby while we ate and drank! This patio was so welcoming because there were SO MANY DOGS. The staff was also ridiculously friendly and sanitary (if you wanted water in the dog water bowls they have outside, you have to fill it up yourself -- which is FINE and understandable, I wouldn't want dog hair in my beer!). My friend and I had pickleback shots, whiskey, and beers, along with soups, sandwiches, and some good ol' Irish chips. I used to go here quite a bit just for a drink in college (go North Central Cardinals!) but coming back as an ~adult~ is just as enjoyable -- especially since there are so many dogs. Quigley's, baby, you're just not you anymore. I used to have so much fun gulping down Smithwyck's, Harp, and Jameson inside you with a group of friends, but something changed. I don't know what it is (maybe me?), but lately you've been rude and full of the most awful noise my ears have ever heard. Do you even screen those awful cover bands? Your food used to be fine, but lately is just a greasy goopy mess of expensive slop now. Oh how we used to laugh the night away in your cozy corner by the fireplace, with the low ceiling and great ambience. Now it's too loud, the staff are straight up rude, and the charming fireplace just makes me sweaty and uncomfortable. Quigley's, honey, is it me? Is it because I'm older now and not quite a college kid, but not quite a newly divorced cougar prowling your hardwood floors on Thursday nights? I may never know, but the truth is, I won't be spending more money in you for a while, not when there's a perfectly good Orazio's down the street where the beer is cheap, the jukebox is perfect, and the popcorn is free. Thank goodness they have a nice outside dining area to enjoy during this pandemic. I tend to get their salads since I'm always trying to eat healthy (and have never been disappointed). However, this time I splurged by enjoying an appetizer and have to say it was the best appetizer I've had in eons. The reuben rolls were to die for (okay slight exaggeration but they were amazing!!). Given this place's average review, I walked by this place many times and didn't really think twice about it. However, on a magical day in February, it was 70° out and the entire city of Naperville (including myself) wanted to have lunch downtown outside with their dog. They were one of the few places that opened their patio that day. Trust me, I called just about everywhere. After waiting for about an hour for a table, my only complaint is that there was no system for people waiting for tables on the patio. The people standing awkwardly on the sidewalk had to use the honor system to basically "stand in line" and keep watch for open tables. It was awkward to constantly stare at people eating and hard because no one could leave (in fear of losing their spot). Instead, everyone just stood around. I would have liked a hostess to put our names down so that people couldn't cut in line and steal our table (that happened to us). After that experience in their beer garden, I can say that I understand why people would complain about the service. However, due to the busy nature of the patio that day, I understood why the servers were struggling a little bit. In terms of the food, the prime rib sandwich with the au jus has never let me down. We came here on a Sunday night and our server was excellent. She found a way to "hack" the menu so I could have a side Caesar salad without paying for the gigantic full salad. (They only offer the house salad as the side). It was the perfect meal and she was so attentive and kind. I haven't tried most of the menu but I can say the Irish chips are good and so are their burgers. You can't leave hungry. I came to Quigley's around noon on a Saturday for a first date. The interior is slightly dimly lit and pretty clean; the atmosphere was very casual and nice. Our server was very attentive to keeping our drinks filled and if we needed anything. I ordered the Killarney burger with irish chips and I enjoyed it! The irish chips are pretty much fries, but cut into thick circles, hence being called "chips". These were great and I liked how they had a nice balance of outside crispiness and soft inside. They were not salty as well! The killarney burger is special because of the killarney sauce although it also has tasty jack cheese and crispy fried onions. My best comparison for what the sauce is, which might not be adequate, is a high quality Big Mac sauce. What really matters most is that it is pretty darn tasty. My burger was cooked as asked (medium), which is expected, but always nice to see. The sauce can make the burger a tad messy, so you might want to ask for the sauce on the side if you're concerned with getting sauce on your fingers as you're eating this delicious burger. read more

I just can't get into this place. Not physically, just metaphysically. It could be a fun little Irish pub-y place but instead it's packed to the brim with cougars and wandering eye husbands, so so service, mediocre food, and a pretty okay beer list. I gave up on eating here long ago, long before I became a vegetarian and they didn't have much food for me anyway. Their beer selection includes $6.50 pints of cider (what? It's cheaper in the city), Guinness, Bud and Miller products, and many more generic things. Their website lists a ton more beer but their beer list on each table only has about 8 choices so I went with 312... which I'm pretty sure she gave to someone else and I got some body's poopy Miller Lite. It was bad... very chemically enhanced and my glass had crud stuck to the side of it but since our server didn't come back for quite a while I just went with it. I've been here a few times where they had some really great bands but, it's been a while since I went on a music night. I think I'm going to try going back on a trivia night to see how it is and if I can get a better beer. Maybe just stick with some Fat Tire next time around. read more

Came here as part of a day trip. Had to call three times just to make a reservation for a party of 10 guests. When we get there, a server was hollering at me from a guest table to us by the entrance as it was open seating. She wasn't understanding what I was saying until I asked to speak to a Manager as we had a reservation. Her attitude changed quickly, she apologized profusely and got us seated. Once we were seated service took almost two hours as there was little to no attention, I couldn't even get our server's attention to ask for anything. I understand that this place was busy, but when a customer asks for a bill to be redone when it's wrong or would like to settle their bill, the response shouldn't be "hold on, I'll be right back" as your server takes care or several different tables (of two or three guests) before coming back (about 6-8min). It was very clear we were on her schedule through our experience. Quigley's was our first stop for the day, with the afternoon to be spent shopping & exploring DT Naperville. Our guests shopping time was cut in half by the service at Quigley's. There were great aspects to our experience -- we were late in our departure as one of the guests was running late, and the table was still held for us. Additionally the food was amazing! read more

I hate this bar. I've been here 3-4 times on the day before Christmas Eve and it's the same story every time. This bar is crammed wall to wall with people who do not leave the bar area after getting their drinks. Typical of a DNB: Douchey Naperville Bar. It's also hot as hell in here. It was five degrees outside, but I started to sweat in here. No, I do not have a glandular problem. The bar is understaffed which makes for long waits for drinks. Most of us didn't get drinks for at least half an hour. My gin & tonic tasted of tonic and lime. The few bartenders they do have apparently can't make a decent drink either. I did like the Peppermint Patty, which I'll assume is a seasonal drink. This toasty warm beverage of hot chocolate, peppermint schnapps, crème de menthe, and maybe some other stuff. Truth be told I didn't read the drink menu because I didn't know it existed. I approached a total stranger and asked her what she was drinking. It's cozy, pretty, and you'll like it if you're one of those Irish bar people that like Guinness, boxtys, and Irish car bombs. Once again, this bar is not ideal for large groups because they don't have enough bartenders or waitresses on staff to handle it. On this particular night, there was another group out doing a bar crawl. They arrived in a trolley and a Mariachi band followed them into the restaurant (the group hired them to play wherever they went). I thought it was pretty entertaining, but if I were out for a quiet meal or drink, I'd be dying to cram a maraca down management's throat. To really drive my point home about how none of the staff has any idea what is going on in here: my friend stood at the door and pretended to be a bouncer. He started checking ID's and was just about to start collecting $5 cover charges from people. There isn't anyone at Quigley's checking IDs at the door or the bar, at least not on busy nights. Yeah, Quigley's has no idea what the f*ck is going on in their establishment. Two stars because I did finally get my drinks, and that Peppermint Patty was possibly worth another visit. I was in desperate need of a pub for the World Cup match with the US. vs. England. I had called every Irish pub/bar in the area. Believe it or not, no one really had any specials running for the day (or no one was willing to take the time to explain them). Then I called Quigley's and not only had WC specials but the manager (I believe his name was Chris) took the time to explain everything that was occurring during the tournament. That alone, made my decision for me. I knew where my ass would be come Saturday. Believe it or not, this was the first time I've ever been to a pub for breakfast. I was hoping to score the Irish breakfast, but at 8:30 in the morning there was only a limited menu available. Why was I there at 8:30 for a 1:30pm game? Because the place was almost filled by 9:30. Who knew people in America love soccer. I went with the corned beef hash and eggs. The hash was good but the eggs were a little runny. I could've ordered a pint at this point but c'mon I had to drive at some point. By noon time, we were ready for lunch. A Guinness BBQ burger and a pint of ol' Guinness was in order for me. The burger was really good and it was cooked just the way I wanted it. The Guinness was poured correctly and the crowd/atmosphere was awesome. Top that off with great service from the waitress and it was a blast for Saturday morning and afternoon. I have found a great pub for my World Cup viewing. A fairly decent place to hang out. That decor is beautiful. The rumor is that they spent $1million importing the woodwork and craft labor to build the inside from Ireland. I don't know if that is true, but it a good story. They have good selection of draft beers. The food is pretty good - for bar food. They have a good PB&J. The pub fries are good (sliced red potatoes, I believe). The mini rubens are yummy. The shepherds pie is the perfect thing to fill your belly on a chilly autumn day. Fish and chips is good, too. It can be a little smoky and the music can be too loud. You can always move to the back of the bar or another room if you are not comfortable. What bar isn't that way? I haven't been able to figure out the crowds; sometimes you get a bunch of older barflies. Then it seems to be packed with young co-eds. Sometimes it's crowded; other times it's empty. I am sure there's a pattern; but I have not figured it out. One day that it always busy is March 17. They line up before the doors open. I'm surprised people only think this place is simply OK. I am in love. My only real problem with it is the price. It is a bit steep, but not any crazier than most places that don't even offer half the atmosphere and have sub-standard bar food. Two people going nuts on appetizers, drinks and food set my shoe purchasing power back $80 when all was said and done. Wednesday night was pretty hopping. They had a live band playing great southern music, a little bluegrass, some funk and a mix of 90s hits. I like choices and everything they played was great. Our waiter, Ryan was the greatest. He was always there to take our orders and even though they didn't have any cider on tap, he was more than willing to help me out with my Snake Bite jones. A bottle of Magner's and a Guinness later, I was sipping happily. The food is amazing. A-MAZ-ING, ya hear? Their stuffed potato skins are overflowing with bacon, onions and cheese. The Reuben rolls are out of this world. Think a Reuben sandwich without the bitter sauerkraut. They have cabbage alright, but they don't just roll it up and call it a day. No, my friend. They stuff that little sucker into an egg roll. I don't even like egg rolls that much and I was wolfing these bad boys down. Their soups are a'ight, not Irish enough to be authentic and not crazy enough to be considered ethnic inspired. My jerk chicken soup tasted like a creamy gumbo. I barely touched it and the waiter noticed. He got me a new soup to try, which was the potato lentil. It was just slightly better. The taste was a bit too similar to garlic powder. They could improve in that area. The stew! THE STEW! You got to get it! Go with the Shepard's Pie or Lamb Stew. Both are cooked to perfection. I am still not entirely sure what all is in the lamb stew, but I'm not one to think too much about these things. All I know is that it is delicious. Um, not so much. At about 3:00 pm on Saturday afternoon, five of us walk into Quigley's for a late lunch. There is a sign to seat ourselves which surprised me as there was a lot of staff standing around. I wandered ahead and around the corner looking for a spot to seat the five of us and someone directed me to a spot. It was cramped for five, but whatever. There was a tv that my hubby & father in law could see, so it was fine. Immediately, I noticed that the table and floor were sticky. Ick. The menus didn't exactly have a clean feeling either. Our waitress was ok. Not interested in doing much more than standing around the corner from us and gabbing. There are plenty of options which is nice, but since it was an off time for a meal, my hubby and I decided to split an appetizer of irish potato skins. My son ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich. My father in law had a burger with cheese and his wife tried the shepherds pie. We should have sent back the potato skins. We ordered them without tomatoes, but somehow I think the bacon was missing. Not that it mattered because the gloppy mess had coagulated cheese all over so if there was bacon there was no way to find it. We pulled off the cheese mess and ate three of the four little potato pieces ($8.20 by the way). My son ate most of his sandwich. The burger was fine. The shepherds pie arrived and she nibbled at it, but it was lacking flavor so that was not the highlight at the table. We added two cups of soup to the meal and it was so salty that it was not palatable. On to the ambiance...you wanna know right? A young employee walked through the dining area, next to our table and pulled his black Quigley's shirt off over his head while announcing that it's 'beer o'clock' and promptly sitting down at the bar to knock back a few cold ones. LOVE LOVE LOVE it! This is my favorite place to start an evening in downtown Naperville. Here are the 3 top reasons" 1. They have a good hard cider on draft for $5 a glass; not too shabby 2. Some of the bartenders are legit Irish: one really cute one, too who was excellent with his service. 3. Variety of places to sit and/or stand. They have a cozy back room for conversation. A great little place on Jefferson in downtown Naperville. We have enjoyed going here each time and can't really say anything bad about it.. I give it 4 stars because sometimes it can be a bit on the heavy smoke side (cigars are allowed in certain areas there) but what do you get going to a bar, right? It is also pretty small. I'm right in the middle with this place. After a long day my boyfriend and I were hungry and thirsty! We decided to check this place out. We liked the fact that it was out of the hustle and bussle of downtown Naperville, because we really weren't in the mood to deal with the douche bags and high school kids that come along with the area. We walked up and decided to sit outside because it was really nice out. We like the little beer garden in the front, it was cute. We did peek our heads in for a moment to use the bathroom. The inside was pretty empty, but it was a Monday night. I'm always a fan of irish decor.. so the design of the place was pretty neat-o. We also found the history of the building interesting. However, the esthetics of the place were probably the best part of our experience. The first thing that was irritating, that has been happening a lot lately, is asking what I want to drink when I sat down at an empty table with no drink list, beer list, anything.. Being an indecisive person and not knowing the place, it'd be nice to know what you got before you ask me what I'd like. Also, I usually like the cliental at homie irish bars, but the patio at Quigley's was filled with a variety of slightly annoying and inconsiderate people. One table was filled with what seemed to be 40-50 year olds who lived around the area who all brought their DOGS! Shocked by the fact that people had their dogs on the patio of a bar/pub, I saw they weren't the only table who brought their dogs... there was at least 2 other tables. I don't know if Quigley's promotes bringing your pet, but it was so strange to me. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE PUPPIES and wanted to say hi and pet them.. but I also want to enjoy the night and have a good time without having a dog lick my feet as I walk by. The other tables on the patio consisted of young, industry people, who were loud, swearing, and smoking on the patio (which to my knowledge is illegal??). Either way, as a non-smoker, it was pretty inconsiderate. Now- besides the fact that I wasn't too pleased with my surrounding peeps, our waitress was very nice and busy! We didn't receive the best service because our waitress apparently had every single table on the patio. As people who have worked in the industry, it didn't bother us that things took a bit longer because she was doing a really good job of balancing all the tables, also, the manager was very helpful and nice as well.. he brought out our food and offered us more drinks when our server was busy. The food was ok. Not the best I've had, but it wasn't horrible. It was really what I expected from a little irish bar, it's not like I was going out to get some top of the line food. We started with the nachos which were not my fave, but as long as they have jalapenos on them, I can make it work. This is a great place to go to on a Saturday in the middle of the day. We especially enjoy going to Quigley's during warmer weather as we can sit on the patio and also bring our 2 lovely dogs with us. The staff will usually bring a bowl of water for our dogs. The food is decent and the beers are great. I don't really enjoy this place as much when it's completely crowded. I absolutely love Quigley's. I came on Friday night with my husband and mother in law for a light dinner. We ordered the fish and chips, reuben rolls and buffalo chicken salad. Everything was pretty good. I absolutely loved the reuben rolls; really flavorful and perfectly fried. The Irish chips that came with the fish and chips were also delicious. Overall we had great service... good enough to where we went back on Sunday for breakfast. The best part about Quigley's breakfast is their entire menu is available at 10 AM! Who doesn't love that?! Sunday we sat outside on the patio and my favorite part was the fact that dogs are allowed and there is somewhat communal seating. My husband and I shared a bench and a table with an amazing party of 3 and ended up spending 4 hours sitting outside with them! The service was fantastic the entire time. We never felt rushed and they did such a wonderful job of keeping our drinks filled. Now here's something else that's phenomenal, we ordered the following: 2 spicy bloody Mary's (very good and a special on Sundays for only $4), 2 snake bites, 1 Moscow Mule, buffalo chicken sandwich with Irish chips and the Irish Bacon omelette (3 egg omelette with 2 hash browns and a side of toast)... ALL FOR UNDER $50 INCLUDING TAX AND TIP! By far the best money we've ever spent at a restaurant. Full of character and a great place to take company. The patio outside is perfect for warmer days when who doesn't want a pint outside? Inside is quaint but can get pretty loud for conversation when there is a band playing. They also allow dogs outside on the patio if that is a concern for you. I once saw a dog sitting on a chair at a high top. Sort of disturbing but after a pint or two you won't care so much. My favorite things to order are cucumber sandwiches, or the spinach and potato salad. I love that they don't just have greasy pub food here. Great choice if kicking it in Naperville. The only reason they didn't get the fifth star is because of the dogs. Sorry dogs, I love you but not when I'm dining out. read more

Quigley's is a staple for the North Central College crowd and one of the more casual places to spend an evening in the midst of downtown Naperville's more upscale offerings like Hugo's Frog Bar, Catch 35, Sullivan's and such. The atmosphere is a lively one and quite intimate given the confined size of the place. I am not the social dilettante at the bar, alas, but usually someone seated inside a cozy booth chatting with my friends or husband, and I find it comfortable enough. The food options aren't extensive but the quality is good. You won't go wrong with one of the filling options like a reuben, the shepherd's pie, or a regular old hamburger. Plenty of alcoholic options for the regular pubbers, though the cider leaves a bit to be desired. The stuff they carry I find is too dry, on the whole, and prefer to settle back with a cup of tea, a pint of Guinness (can't go wrong there!) or such. Quigley's has average prices and the parking lot across the street is conveniently placed but fills up pretty quick. read more

My visits here have been few and far in between. Having attended college just down the road, you'd think it would have been a top spot, but I never got into it. Fast forward several years, and I visited here several days after the new law where you couldn't smoke inside. DISGUSTING. It wreaked so badly...I never thought I'd miss the smell of smoke to mask a disgusting bar smell. I hadn't been in a while until just this weekend for St Patrick's Day. I ran a 5k in Naperville and then walked over and we were shocked at how easily our group of seven got a table...until we realized they were sitting people but not serving! We had to wait 45 minutes for drinks...I would have gone elsewhere if I had known. The food was the opposite case. We ordered and received it quickly...likely because it was 10am and no one was ordering reuben's! We got the mini burgers, reuben rolls and Irish chips. I had never had a reuben I liked until Quigley's. The flavor was incredible and their Killarney sauce is great. Burgers were great as well! I wasn't a fan of the "chips" - they were more like potato wedges. They have a great list of coffee cocktails and bourbon and I'm sure this place is great for some. But unless I'm sitting on the patio and eating on a nice day, I'll pass on the dark bar off the main Naperville strip. read more

Due to the underage drinking epidemic in this country Quigley's feels it needs to take extra precautions when serving alcohol to anyone under 40. Really Quigley's? You're an Irish pub....IRISH. The state of Illinois allows up to THREE MONTHS for someone to update their license after turning 21. Quigley's feels this policy to be ridiculous and sets their own TWO WEEK timetable. That's fine Quigley's I tell everyone to enjoy Naperville's other fine establishments for the next 2.5 months. read more

It's crowded on the weekends. It's pricey for beers. But you're in downtown Naperville, and you're at (probably) the most popular bar in town. I've probably been here 100 times, and the staff has never been anything but nice to me and the people I'm with. The Guinness Beef is the best I've ever had. (I can't comment on anything else because its all I get now) You can't ask for a better Guinness pour in Naperville, and the bar itself has live music every Thurs, Fri and Sat night. Never a cover. I can't really think of a way to improve it, it's my favorite bar in Naperville. I guess I just have a hard time seeing eye-to-eye with people giving it a bad review because of the crowd or noise. This week we took an adventure to Downtown Naperville's Quigley's Irish Pub. Our first thoughts upon entering were that it was dark and cramped. A lot of dividing walls and tables covering the the rooms made it really hard to move around. The sizable bar seemed to be split into a lot of smaller rooms which created a little bit of claustrophobia in us. For us, this was a big negative. During the warm months, your best bet is to try and get a spot outside. Another thing we noticed is what type of crowd this bar draws in. Quigley's definitely brings in the older crowd. We actually seemed to be the youngest group there. Everyone else was about 35+. This isn't a negative, but if you're looking for a more hip bar, then this isn't the place. YELLING is something you'll also get used to at this bar. When they're not playing loud music from the speakers; you'll be accompanied by a live band that is so close to you that it seems as if they are attempting to sit with you (YOU CAN'T SIT WITH US). Now don't get us wrong, if there is one thing we like is some music and better yet a live band, but one thing we also enjoy is being able to talk to the person next to us without having to seemingly steal the front man's mic to communicate. When we finally got to our table and sat down, we were promptly greeted by our server for the night. She was awful. For most of the time we were left looking around for her to see if we could catch her attention. This was a negative for us because we want to feel as if we were wanted and not just money waiting to be collected. We all decided to go ahead and order our beers and food for the night while we were there. Again our server was nice to start but then took a turn to the other side. We all ordered a beer including on tap and in bottle. One of us asked if the Sam Adams Octoberfest was hoppy and the waitress replied with, "Uh yeah, It's Octoberfest?" What a turn off! She was so rude and condescending. After asking for an opinion on beer we decided to order food. We ordered a bowl of the French Onion soup which was very bland for our taste and too watery (ew). Our next dish that we decided to order was The Pub Club, which was without a doubt the better of the two. It was hot and fresh. It came with a pickle on the side and a choice of chips, kuskus, or coleslaw. We ordered it with the chips which were hot, fresh and crispy. Their food was very mixed based on the quality of the soup and the sandwich. Its the luck of the draw (or the luck o' the Irish) to see what type of freshness you will get when you order your food. Overall our thoughts on Quigley's are mixed. We feel as if this is going to be your first stop for the night then you are going to be in good company as far as number of beers on tap and the people in the bar with you. If you are looking for a more hip, young place to spend most of your night, then this isn't the place for you. The drinks and food will get your night started and satisfy any apetight you may have. The service is o.k. but it will all depend on the server that you get. Though our waitress was cold and condescending, in previous experiences we have had great servers. If you are looking for a semi-authentic Irish Pub experience, then Quigley's may be the place to visit. I want to be somewhere that I can wear knee high socks for eight hours and be surrounded by nothing but wood. That came out wrong in every way, so lets get back to the point. I'm not too sure where I stand with Quigley's. I like the aspect that it's an Irish pub in little ol' Naperville but dont' know if this would be a place I'd frequent unless it was a hankering for a Black and Tan that wouldn't be shushed. The seating is scattered and for the most part pretty private and secluded, excluding sitting at the bar. There's lots to choose from, booths, stools to tables they've got. A pretty standard pub that has their waitresses donning the knee high socks as if you were at a futbol match and they were delivering your drinks to your seats in the VIP section...though Quigley's isn't VIP. Pub fare that is fit for the likes of any game day with a pint in tow and creaky wood floors that puts this litle diddy on the mark for a hangout in casual form. Casual but not really my cup of tea. I love nothing more than to slink away into a pub so long as there is good convos, plenty of seating and a vibe that is inviting. For some reason I just couldn't find that here. It didn't seem like a place that I would want to sit at after work trying to unwind after dealing with another work disaster but then again I could be way off base. It was a Tuesday night, later, and pretty packed so this has potential for a repeat performance. With the patios beginning to open up and the sun staying out later on school nights, Quigley's may be in line for another test run. Because I really do want a Black and Tan! read more

So here you have it...Downtown Naperville's Irish Pub. There isn't anything spectacular about this place, just your typical Irish Pub. My boxing club started our Pub Crawl here at 7pm on a Friday night. It wasn't packed at 7 so we were able to find seats with no problem close to the door. I'm not sure if we were supposed to have tables reserved or what but we were only there for an hour and a half and by 8:30 we were more than ready to move it along. The place started to get pretty crowded by then anyway. Standing room only, for sure. There was also live music in there later and they were setting up. There was only one waitress for the area as far as I could tell...and my friends weren't too happy with her. I thought the service was fine. We didn't eat or anything and the drink specials weren't anything appealing to me, personally but they did make a signature "special" drink called the "knock out" just for us so I had to try one of those! Maybe I'll be back? I don't know but there are plenty other places to discover in the area for me. read more

Ah, Quigley's. Always a pleasure at Quigley's. I have been here a few times and every time I come there is always a live band. The kind of pub we have been searching for...it really reminded us of Ireland. The beer, music, food, and people-watching was great. I love that this place is hidden away from all the mainstream traffic of downtown Naperville, only locals will know about it. I can't wait to try the outdoor seating...I'm all about it...guess I will have to wait until next summer. P.S. Did not like the dessert, but what do you expect...it's a pub. With few exceptions, I don't ever really expect pubs or bars to have tremendous food. Unless a place bills itself as such, I go more for drinks and the atmosphere. In this regard, Quigley's is unfortunately no exception. The food isn't bad, but it's nothing spectacular. They have some nice breakfast options and some standard pub fare, but it's frankly just average. That's why I subtract a star. On the other hand, it excels at everything else! It gets two major bonus points for me for A: Allowing dogs on the patio (the place is known and loved for this, so if you don't like dogs for some reason, be forewarned), and B: They televise pretty much every major soccer game from the UK and others throughout Europe. This is the only place in the western burbs I know of that puts as much emphasis on this as Quigley's does, and as a result you'll often see British or Scottish expats cheering loudly on the weekends! Great atmosphere for this. Also, the decor really does work very well for the Irish theme. How does it pull it off? By having the whole damn thing built in Ireland and shipped over to install! That's some dedication to traditionally authentic feel and the place is laid out well with lots of areas and private rooms for gatherings. The drinks and beer selection is exactly what you would hope for in an Irish pub and there's always plenty to go around. I'm not really a live music enthusiast, but there is live entertainment here quite a bit and the atmosphere is quite festive! Great patio area (and bonus points for allowing dogs on the patio!) but the food was just OK and the waitress was SO SLOW. As in, she must have totally forgot we existed or took her 15 minute break without telling us slow. All in all, I think this is a great little place to grab a bite and a beer, but nothing to write home about. There are too many other places like this in the area that offer better food and service. read more
